    This definitely works well for me. I usually keep my braids in for 2-3 months at maximum. Long term protective styling only really works if you use a thick heavy moisturizer, and seal with an oil or a butter. So that when I take out my braids out they still feel moisturized. I also make sure to moisturize my ends and massage my scalp twice a week. Scalp massages not only increase hair growth but also help loosen up build up and keep dirt off the scalp.

    Honestly this is the easiest way to see the most length retention for me. I do medium to large twists for 1 month at a time. I've just started using headwraps.

    I can’t keep my hair in a protective style for 4 months. My hair will knot up and get tangled. I take care of my hair every week.

      @felicia dunn I too wash and condition my hair weekly. I have about 50 plaits in. They are sealed with shea butter and under my head band wig. I remove the wig daily and oil and massage my scalp etc Will see if I can make it to 8 weeks.

    My protective style has been twists that start off as braids at the roots. I redo them weekly. I have seen a significant amount of growth. Deep conditioner, Ayurvedic products, aloe vera juice, CR honey hydrate, and butter creams on wash day helps.

      I'm scared tho my 4c hair won't have it and I'll end up with free form dreds 😭. Could you tell me more about how it went?
      I really want to try it cause I'm getting back into working out and working full time.

    Thank You for sharing. This was informative. Protective styling is beneficial if it’s done right. Not to keep the style in for too long and give your hair a break. I normally like knotless box braids. I take long breaks from them. One year I did not put braids in and my hair really thrived being washed every 3 to 4 weeks with stretched out hair only. I did not flat iron my hair.

    One problem I have I have to redo my hair every three to four days. Now, I moisturize and redo my hair. I know they say keep your hands out of your hair but it has become a habit. I just need to do something with my hands. I've been wearing my hair short and since I've been watching I decided to grow it out and it's been growing. I do a lot of the DYI and make them myself following along with you. Thanks for the videos and I'll keep watching.

    In between protective styles. What do you actually do to your hair? I'm asking because for me it's quite impossible for me to leave my hair out without a protective style. A lot of knots and tangles. And it's not long enough to be rocked. So what do I do? Please I look forward to a response.

    Thanks for this so I have been following up with your channel and I started doing braids on my natural hair and trying to keep them in long but once it pass a month my hair just feels like it's locksing and I was getting stressed about it but now I started cornrows and doing crochet over it I don't know how it is going so far but I think it's better. Trying to keep it in for 5 months hopefully. But questions how do you manage to keep in your hair so long without feeling to pull it out? Its just been a week for me and am already feeling to pull it out.

    • @nikkifranklin2737
      @nikkifranklin2737 3 года назад +1

      If you don't want to buy a preservative: Freeze it in an ice tray. Put the cubes in a ziplock bag. Thaw when needed. My Aloe vera juice is sold at CVS with the preservative in it and has to be kept in the fridge once opened. Use your plant for the gel and for masks so you won't have any extra left over.
