Me, power engineer for a living in Switzerland and working on my own cars, watching him saving people's day for a handful of videos now. Already one of my favorite channels.
Matthew, when I met my wife back in 2000, she had just purchased a 2000 dodge neon 5 speed with a 2.0L engine. I couldn't drive it, but I could maintenance the vehicle. It was our most reliable vehicle. I have done brakes, a cam sensor, and a couple shift cable bushings over the years. Nothing major. Still runs great. I'm sitting in it running fuel injector cleaner through the engine as I am typing. My wife taught me how to drive a manual transmission in this car. It is very special to me. I'm sorry for my mom. It is sad how people take advance of people. I love your channel and your integrity. God bless you and your family.
Good to hear I got a 2005 neon sxt does yours have the classic lifter tick ? and what oil you use ? So far Only major jobs was water pump timing belt head gasket for me 145k miles the base models are very reliable the srt4 was pretty reliable as well dodge and Mitsubishi did well with them …Matt had one neon on his channel I believe
They are the best I had one for 11 years never left me stranded and it never left me down! 2004 Dodge neon SXT when she passed over from salt from the road she had 250,000 mi on the clock! Best vehicle I ever owned besides my Intrepid!
@@Young516_I never had any problems only had to change the timing belt and water pump and that was it of course I did transmission fluid changes best car ever owned!
@Young516_ The only time I hear lifter tick is after it has sat for a few weeks without driving. It goes away after running the engine. I've used all the major brands of oil in it. I always changed the oil at 3,000 miles. I timing belt and water pump is coming up.
700 for parts and labor on a timing chain and power steering pump is insanely low. You’re a good guy but you gotta start making this stuff worth your while. I understand getting your foot in the door and helping people out some with slightly lower prices than industry standard, but you’re charging like 30% of what any other shop would. You work hard, you should have something to show for it when you’re done.
@@timscott7136I fully agree he should be charging more... But besides the ad revenue, how much is he getting in free tools like the scanner, and extra business from fan referrals. If I recall, he's in Tulsa Oklahoma. Probably has a very low cost of living. If he's making more than "working for the man" in a shop, the satisfaction of helping people who likely couldn't afford another mech may be enough for him. We also don't know his wife's income situation. For all we know she's a neurosurgeon bringing home big fat paychecks and this is just him having fun helping people. I mean, I highly doubt he's that fortunate.... But we don't know. Unless he comes out and says something, I'm convinced he's just too nice for his own good.
I’m an outsider looking in. Your big heart is getting in the way of you actually running your business. You have a great customer base and could easily charge double your rates.
Brother what a great guy ! I just started a mobile mechanic business a few weeks ago here in Oklahoma and have been watching your videos to help me boost my confidence with customer interaction . I’ve been turning wrenches for about 10yrs now and am currently working at a dealership as well so I have been having to schedule work after my full time job or on the weekends, it gets exhausting having to load my tools up from the shop and in my vehicle constantly but it’s worth it in the long run to be able to see a happy customer that wasn’t charged outrageous shop prices and some extra money in my pocket. THANK YOU AND KEEP BEING YOU !! I cheer you on every video you upload and pray for a successful business
I like how Matthew Parker doesn't overcharge anyone- whether the customer looks like they have the money or not. Honest man. Imagine how much they would be charged for this at a regular mechanic.
She said "Serenity" , and I was like...the dad named her after the ship on Firefly 😂 Poor kid probably hears it all the time "Do you know the show Firefly?..."
Love the videos! You should branch out , and come to GA lol. Seriously you do good work and help out people without breaking the bank. Good on ya brother. God has blessed you in several ways
Great video that's cheap for a timing belt kit and labour some mobile mechanics they charge a call out fee on top of everything else keep up the good work you have a good heart.
Don't know why it would be pointless to scan if the check engine light isn't on. Check engine is only going to tell you about drivability or EVAP concerns. If you're inspecting the car for someone to by, having all the other information can be useful. I had a truck I just bought where the AC worked great. Tested it, felt cold air, and was going to move on. Saw an HVAC code and realized I need to go test EVERY switch and button because there were actuators that weren't working. Then I learned the front impact sensors were defective. If I smashed into something, the airbags won't deploy. Don't you think the Dad is going to care about something like that for his 17 year old? Stuff like this that doesn't trip the money light is important.
I'm not sure if we're moving in the right direction here. If not Stellantis products on to Nissan. 200,000 mile Altima that has a Japco CVT transmission ready to fail??? Holy crap!! The car is worth just $350.00.
I'm a fan of your videos and work. I do construction and if you do the right thing for your customers it produces leads for more work. Keep it brother. Good job
That tensioner sound is interesting. I had my timing belt done on my MK4 Jetta about 14 years ago and I recall that noise being present afterwards. It was faint but I could hear it. I suspect the mechanic never changed out the tensioner and I'm assuming the entire job was basically useless? I sold that car a few years later and the guy who bought it ended up blowing the top end because it skipped time. I had all the paperwork for the job and he knew it had been replaced but now I think back and realize that may have been the reason why? I bad tensioner?
$250 for the timing chain 😳 I paid £600 for a timing chain to be done on an opel corsa 1.2 two years ago 😳😳 and then I paid the same garage £300 to do the water pump like a month later because that went to be honest I was suspicious that they may have sabotaged it because you have to take the water pump off to do the chain and the chain never sounded good either, I certainly wouldn't use the same garage ever again, the water pump literally went or started making noises like a week after they'd done the chain 🤷♂️ but you can't prove it so 🤷♂️
They should have insisted and made the water pump part of the timing job absolutely. I don't feel it was sabotage though, the new tight chain and tensioner alone would have wreaked havoc on the old worn water pump.
@@joseespinoza93Even the timing belt kits i used to replace on my 2000-ish Opel Vectra and Astra had cost 150 dollars (probably, converted), They included water pump, tensioner and pulleys. That 55 dollars is almost too cheap. 😉
You never know someone could have cleared the codes I would stay clear of this car I don't trust Nissan products ever not even from the 90s my mom had a brand new Nissan Sentra and it blew up not long after we owned it! She had to go buy a used Plymouth Voyager that lasted forever and never broke down like the Nissan did! It left us stranded all the time my mom never bought another foreign car after that!
Matthew I’ve been following you for awhile now and I really would like to do something similar to what you do, how did you get started? Are you certified/did to school or did you just start working on cars and used a good scan tool and built your skills and knowlege?

I would pass on working that nissan. All that engine work only for the notorious Jatco transmission to go out .

Nissans are great little cars- until you have to replace the non-rebuildable and un-serviceable transmission, which is only available from the dealer.
