Oh heck, she has reduced me to a weeping fool. That was possibly the most beautiful acceptance speech there has ever been. Grace is so unique, so wise, so loving and so natural and real it is hard to believe she is still only 13 years old. This girl is a goddess.
irisa...your sad-ass disappointment in your own miserable existence is showing! if you watch this and feel compelled to make a comment like this...i really feel sorry for you. the funny thing is...grace vanderwaal would probably give you a hug and tell you that you're a beautiful thing and that things are going to be ok! hang in there, hoping that your life gets better...
J.Michael Nolan, don't let this type of silly comments upset you, this person is the loser because they are not experiencing the extreme joy and happiness that is Grace. I just have a funny feeling that these nasty comments, the way they are worded etc are from someone very young or at least immature. Let them live with their hate, you and i will live with Grace's beauty. We are the winners.
This was the classiest, most magnificently heartfelt display of humility and love i have ever witnessed. Dave & Tina must be in tears after watching their little girl give this acceptance speech tonight. Grace, your name says it all young lady.
This was so touching I still can't believe my ears. Every one there and watching live cried I'm sure. Can't help wondering what was the "rough waters" experiences she had that made her so emotional.
Luckily she did not sing darkness keeps chasing me or they would of had to stop the show. I also wonder is that where darkness keeps chasing me came from?
From what I've found it is about the fact that all artists seem to have tortured lonely lives that spiral out of control as they turn to drugs to cope with the stress of fame. It is about her hope to not follow that same path. It is also about not being able to be a normal kid anymore and go to school. In general, I have no idea how much stress she would be under but I hope she finds constructive ways to deal with it. God bless you Grace.
This is the kind of thing that transcends Grace from just another pop singer. She is humble to a fault and painfully honest about her success. She is blessed with talent and will never take full credit for it. It's a gift to her and to us as well. You be you Grace and never change.
Now I definitely know why I love this girl. Such a beautiful mind. A 13yo giving such an eloquent, coherent, extemporaneous speech, with a big ending kick that leaves the lump on your throat stuck. Now the industry knows, not only her name, but the magnificence she is capable of.
After a full standing ovation for perfoming (alone, no backup, no band, armed only with a little ukulele) rivers of tears from many of the 'big names' for this moving, honest, humble speech. * * * * * Grace * * * * *
Amazing child. She epitomizes the word "prodigy". She is talented beyond her years, and although her humility is admirable, it is unfounded. She flippin EARNED everything she's achieved.
She captivated the people in that room with her performance and she made them cry with her speech. Most of them probably don't know who Grace Vanderwaal is, but I am sure they are gonna go home with Grace in their mind if not in their hearts. That is one magical moment for Grace and for everyone who witnessed it. What an incredible young lady.
I feel like we have come full circle from Grace's AGT audition with "I Don't Know My Name" to how she brought us to tears again with her incredible emotional speech last night. There is a measure of that same emotional power in every song Grace writes and performs. That's her greatness - that's why we love her.
What an incredible young lady! I just re-watched the performance and acceptance speech again and can't believe this girl just started singing and songwriting 48 months ago. Her genuineness, earnestness, and eloquence, in both her performance of her own song, and her acceptance speech, was breathtaking. Grace has a beautiful soul, and she's not shy to share it with the world. Never been more proud to be a fan of any artist. She is the real deal in everything she does, and I hope she keeps doing it and sharing it as long as she can; we're all the better for it.
What a remarkable young lady! There has never been anybody like Grace in the entertainment industry. She is totally unique. On this night Grace was radiating profound humility, sound spiritual grounding, an uncommonly endearing personality and a musical genius that defies explanation! We are witnessing the ground swell of a fledgling legend!
My eyes are stinging, my chest feels tight, and I have dry-mouth from breathing through it. She tore my heart out with that speech. This was the most dramatic moment of the entire night, and only moments before this, Grace gave this audience a spectacular performance of "Moonlight." I am in awe of this girl, and "awe" is a word I don't use very often.
This is what Humility looks like folks, take a lesson. Grace has one of the most beautiful things anyone can possibly have, a beautiful soul. It's people like Grace that change the game. If Grace is the future of music we have a beautiful future to look forward to. I wouldn't be surprised if one day she gets a Grammy or a Peace prize, with a heart like that anything is possible.
Unrehearsed, genuinely grateful Grace at 13 IS in good company: Selena, Francia and Grace displayed what is important in life and music. Kelly, love your heart. Congratulations to ALL Women in Music and thanks to Billboard for such a wonderful prix de reconnaissance. An emotional event for all to see the long overdue changes, and values.
Grace if you ever read this, just let you know that you got me crying... You are so adorable, so inspiring.. God Bless you! Dreams com true you see! keep working hard you deserve the best... What and incredible young lady you are! SO SO SO SO PROUD OF YOU. Take care, never gave up! Big hug from Barcelona. Your catalan fan!
Wow that was so touching and beautiful, what an amazing little human she is becoming. I'm still shook that she is only 13 and has so much poise and humility. I was getting Some serious Audry Hepburn vibes from her tonight. WOW
Jesse, you are so right as it can be. 2 Mio. views up today on YT for A. Hepburn`s short acceptance speech from 1954 (!). Both gave evidence that words can reflect soul and character. It was a real pleasure for me to see in her mother`s tears and pride at the same time. I`m glad to be able to expect what to come from this lovely little genius.
This special child singled handedly won over an ocean of people. She was all alone on that stage when she sang her favorite song. Then she used her wisdom to win them over, how good, no how great is that. I for one watched the entire show from beginning to end and didn't miss a beat. The message was loud and clear, it's time to not allow the industry to dictate who they should be. Not only Grace delivered that message, Selena also stated she will never allow them to tell me who I am. ( video ad of her) Grace said that Billboard has supported her throughout her journey and then they chose to expose her to some very powerful people. This speaks louder than numbers, she now needs an aggressive management team to promote her talent to the world.
She's 13, steady as she goes. So Much More Than This vid on Monday. I believe Grace and her team have set a wise course. instagram.com/p/BcLnRMUA598/?taken-by=gracevanderwaal
it's not easy to find words to describe moments like this grace. there are many singers and performers in the world, but one who touches your heart so deeply, so directly like you do, you barely find in a lifetime.
her speech made me cry of all speeches at billboard 2017, she may be young but her heart is full grown, the humility is overflowing, one thing for sure she's a really good musician, it was shown on how she can expressed herself well coz that's how you do music.
The most genuine, well spoken, and beautiful speech given by a 13 year old. She’s wise beyond her years, she’s extremely talented and has a heart of gold. She really deserved everything that’s happened to her and that is still coming her way. I’m so proud of her. Love you grace!
I was crying because of her she's amazing and no one will ever stop her dreams from coming true and lots of people she lots of support to her outstanding and she should be the queen of music because she's a natural star
I'm sat here wiping my eyes wondering how someone so young can be so grounded and humble. Her talent is deep in her bones and seeps from her pores. It's so refreshing and I'm so glad we can watch her on her journey
I'm so emotional, I feel like I'm going to start crying. I don't know why, but I just feel so proud of her. I remember how shy she was in her first audition of America's Got Talent and now here she is, winning such an amazing award, looking so beautiful after having such an amazing and successful year. I feel so proud of her.
I've been watching these billboard award speeches for, like, hours now and Grace's speech is just so touching. Shit it made me cry and I'm not the type of person who cries. She's so precious 😭 I admire her so much ❤
She is a very amazing young lady! When she said blessing. I was thinking to myself no we are blessed that you're in our lives. Thanks to Grace. She has help changed so many people lives!
After hearing Grace's comments in her acceptance speech, and hearing her emotion come out, I now believe that the darkness is chasing me is about her. It became so clear that she has been fighting demons during this rise to stardom. I hope she overcomes this and becomes the person she always hope to be. Love to Grace
What an amazing girl. At 13 she is reflective, intuitive, natural and delivers such an amazing, humble speech for her age. Yes, I had tears too. I didn't expect such a mature speech and I am totally blessed by it. Thank you Grace ... your name describes exactly who you are. I love your heart ... I love your music.
I’m a name in a crowd of millions, that you’ll probably never meet or see, but if I could say one thing to you, it would be, never forget where you are now, from where you’ll be. I’ve seen so many artists instead of controlling there careers, there consumed by it, the fame and industry. Always look back and be the person that stood on this stage.
Only 13 years old and she’s so incredibly smart and humble. She’s going to do so many amazing things in her lifetime and I️ can’t wait to see all of them. This got me crying, love her & so happy for her
I've watched this speech from Grace a few times now. This girl not only can write some really good and catchy music. From the sounds of it, she seems to be able to write speeches and express her emotions in the words and physical expressions throughout the speech. All at the age of 13. As this girl gets older she is going to have to world in her hands and frankly I am excited to see what she does with it.
Aww this girl is so humble and amazing. She's got a really good voice and totally deserves the award.I just wish she gets a whole lot of awards like this... Good luck Grace!!
Awesome speech! Genuine, from the heart and so sincere! The fact that she reduced some of the audience to tears tells you how authentic she is! I hope her career truly continues to soar. Such a sweet soul she is❤️
A Nobel Peace Prize lies ahead for her, I have no doubt. Someone with that much empathy, compassion, wisdom, ability to make emotional connections, her love for other people, and a total lack of selfish ego is destined to do great things for the people of the world. I think this is the "gift" Grace refers to in her speech. She is already working on an effort to get hearing aides to people in Africa. Another project is helping to get music back into schools too poor to have a music program. These things at age 14! I hope she continues to write music and to sing long into the future. But mark my words, this girl was put on this planet for so much in addition to her music.
I first obviously want to thank Billboard. They've supported me in my career so, so much ... like a lot, and I really really appreciate it. And to be presented such an honorable award is really really unbelievable. Two years ago, if I were able to look into the future and see myself standing on the stage in this room of such inspiring women, I don't even think I would believe what I was seeing. I would think it was fake or something, I don't know. But it's just amazing what one year's done. This year's obviously been unexplainably life changing. And there have been some really rough waters going in it. This is dedicated to everyone who built bridges in those times for me to get across and continue on in my journey. (Oh my God, I can't believe this is happening.) It's so easy to look past it and let it all go into a blur and not even realize what's happening. It's too easy to think about the negative side of it. But it's moments like these that help me reflect and realize the incredible blessing that's been gifted to me for reasons I'll never ever know. Seeing all these women come up here tonight and say these beautiful speeches with their awards, is so inspiring and makes me realize how blessed I am. I don't deserve this at all. But I know people who do. This award is for my parents. This is my parents' award. This is my fans' award. And this is everyone at Syco and Columbia records award, and everyone who's worked their butts off for my journey. [I have?] no idea of this path that I'm on or where it's gonna take me, but all I know is I'm standing up here holding this in my hand, and this isn't mine, this is all of theirs. Thank you.
Grace, you make me so proud that I’m a fan, as odd as that might sound. I’ve been a fan since “...I didn’t know your name...” and there’s no end in sight. Well done! Much deserved! Beautiful performance! Uplifting and inspiring words!
I'm crying a lot of happy tears❤ Grace you're AMAZING! I am 13 too and I can't believe how mature, beautiful and true to yourself you are! You are my inspiration and I'm so so SO happy you are making your dreams come true💕 You TOTALLY deserve this award!
I'm crying my eyes off and it's sooooooooooo touching and sweet of her to give her parents and her family credit for that award I love her sooo much 😙😙😙😙😙😢😢😢😢😢😢
Gracie... you are such a blessing. Whatching you perform I Don't Know My Name at the audition still makes me cry every time - and seeing how far you've come makes me tear up yet again. Please, stay true to yourself, as you have so far, and don't ever let showbiz or ANYONE define or change you. I pray that you don't get brought down by all that has happened, is happening and is yet to happen to you. It was a very fast way up, so I can imagine it must have been pretty tough at times. And it's still not going to be easy, but you are smart and I strongly believe your heart is in the right place... you are such an inspiration and such a pure soul that we are extremely lucky to be alive in this time - to see you through your journey. You are our Amazing Grace. Your music brings me such joy and you are probably the only famous person I would trully love to meet personally. I wish you all the best in life! May you never lose your way... and always "know your name".
she has grown into such an inspiring, humble, unique young women. seeing her grow all the way from her first AGT performance to now has been such an amazing experience and I can't wait what the future has in store for her cause i know it will be amazing ❤️
You are truly amazing Grace. I've loved you since AGT. So much grace and talent. Very inspiring goung woman. Grow up to become better and humble. You really is an example of real pure talent. I know you'll go places. I'm a huge fan from the Philippines. Huggss and Kissess
My God It is already late in the evening and im watching this repeatledly...several times....a lot.. many times...i dont know why and everytime i watch it tears rolling in my cheeks..what a beautiful and profound speech.i love you Grace.
I am including my editorial and summary of Grace VanderWaal's incredible night at the Billboard Women In Music Awards tonight on 11/30/2017 that I wrote for "Chart News". I am very impressed with the aforementioned young lady. Ok Chart News board members, I was unable to multitask on my 1981 IBM model number 5150 with upgraded Windows 98 operating system during the show, so I will include now my summary of tonight's events, focusing on Grace VanderWaal. -First of all, the interview...she showed lots of personality, was comfortable in the limelight, articulate, perfectly imperfect and was a lot of fun to watch. Great job kiddo. -Ok...leading up to her entrance onto the stage, I was really feeling her pressure...myself. As you all know, I am an outspoken atheist but I admit, I closed my eyes, put my hands together and prayed to God....I actually recited, word for word, the entire "our father" prayer. I hadn't spoken it in over 30 years and was amazed that I could. Ok, I went to Catholic school back in the day....and I'm still a bit "superstitious", or maybe even a tad spiritual...or not!! Anyways...enough about me. -Grace absolutely performed the most emotional rendition of Moonlight EVER! She owned it...just her, a stool, and her uke. I will watch it 100 times over when FW News uploads it. -Mark Lalonde quoted that "Grace devastated that room with her acceptance speech". Yes Mark, that is exactly what happened. I was devastated as well....I was teary eyed continuing into Selena Gomez's speech.....and then got choked-up again. Ok...I straight up cried. -In summary, what a wonderful Awards ceremony. I really enjoyed watching it on the twitter platform, on my phone, with quality Bluetooth headphones. (I'm back on ye'ol' IBM 5150 right now). Grace made a huge impression tonight. To quote Mark Lalonde again, "She had Mary J. Blige and Kelly Clarkson sobbing. ". It should be obvious to you all that Grace has once again won my heart, more than ever....She owned the room tonight. What a courageous girl.
Grace, we all love you so much and your family as well. I listen to you every night. I try to watch the videos as they post. You are a gift from God and have helped so many people in this human life form. You have made us laugh hard and cry even harder. I love you. Remember you are amazing and a real gift to music and to this generation who kinda need you. We all need you in our lives in some way. Be good to yourself as I know you will. You have the gift. Not everybody has the gift. One of your biggest fans. Alan
“I now know my name” wow she is amazing. She was a ordinary girl before she won the AGT. But she is standing on the stage now as a celebrity who has a power and gained fame.
Oh heck, she has reduced me to a weeping fool. That was possibly the most beautiful acceptance speech there has ever been. Grace is so unique, so wise, so loving and so natural and real it is hard to believe she is still only 13 years old. This girl is a goddess.
les cox she's just amazing and I feel lucky to watch her grow as person and as an artist
irisa...your sad-ass disappointment in your own miserable existence is showing! if you watch this and feel compelled to make a comment like this...i really feel sorry for you. the funny thing is...grace vanderwaal would probably give you a hug and tell you that you're a beautiful thing and that things are going to be ok! hang in there, hoping that your life gets better...

les cox , there is a big trouble in one of the answer !!!!! Go and react pleased ! the number 6
One of the most epic acceptance speeches I've ever heard. She started out nervous and ended up owning the audience's hearts.
This was the classiest, most magnificently heartfelt display of humility and love i have ever witnessed. Dave & Tina must be in tears after watching their little girl give this acceptance speech tonight. Grace, your name says it all young lady.

I agree, quite possible the song came from those experiences. I hope it didn't come from something even more serious.
From what I've found it is about the fact that all artists seem to have tortured lonely lives that spiral out of control as they turn to drugs to cope with the stress of fame. I've heard a lot of ppl say "i don't deserve it", but it's the 1st time i really believe one/...
I love the way she reacts to people trying to interpret her songs
I AM UGLY CRYING, GRACE IS PRECIOUS.
....and that is how you do a speech!
Yep
Grace is a gift to this world, we must cherish her existence.
This is the kind of thing that transcends Grace from just another pop singer. She is humble to a fault and painfully honest about her success. She is blessed with talent and will never take full credit for it. It's a gift to her and to us as well. You be you Grace and never change.

I'm a 49 yr old Male from Asia. I cried 'a lot' hearing this speech, one of the greatest acceptance speeches ever, so genuine and inspiring..
She was so meant to be to where she is now. And I will forever support her ❤
What an incredible young lady!
I just re-watched the performance and acceptance speech again and can't believe this girl just started singing and songwriting 48 months ago. Her genuineness, earnestness, and eloquence, in both her performance of her own song, and her acceptance speech, was breathtaking.

Im sure grace practiced but like all her appearances, grace's personality skows through to take it beyond the mere words on paper.

Divine kid with a big heart. She is pure love
I couldn't come up with such speech even after hundreds of years. Grace, you are the art. Everything about you is an art.

What a beautiful soul Grace has.Time after time.
I love her more than any artist and i respect her immensely.

Aww this girl is so humble and amazing. She's got a really good voice and totally deserves the award.I just wish she gets a whole lot of awards like this...
Good luck Grace!!
I cried for the first time listening to someone's speech at an award. I'm so happy for Grace.
Awesome speech! Genuine, from the heart and so sincere! The fact that she reduced some of the audience to tears tells you how authentic she is! I hope her career truly continues to soar. Such a sweet soul she is❤️
Kelly clarkson crying like a proud mom is everything
GRACE IS A GEM AND WE DON'T DESERVE HER. I hope she doesn't change who she is. She is an amazing young woman. So poised and graceful.
i had to pause the video for a while cause i was in tears 💕💕🔥🔥🔥😢😢😢😢 beautiful speech
She deserves all the love in the world. I am routing for her all the way to the top!
She had me crying... she is such an amazing person, so intelligent and wise beyond her years....simply beautiful
(Oh my God, I can't believe this is happening.)
It's so easy to look past it and let it all go into a blur and not even realize what's happening.
Thank you.
Even reading it made me suck in air, with a tear to boot
Cal 99ers, this is the day of happy tears. Three hours of reading comments around this great evening for Grace and my eyes are not yet dry ...
Grace, you make me so proud that I’m a fan, as odd as that might sound. I’ve been a fan since “...I didn’t know your name...” and there’s no end in sight. Well done! Much deserved! Beautiful performance! Uplifting and inspiring words!

Omg,I cried ,so much trought out this speech,it was so beautiful And unique And Grace you are!!❤️🙏🏻
Gracie... you are such a blessing.

Big Bri, that was beautiful. Thank-you
Now THIS is how to give an awards speech. I'm 71 years old and have never seen it done better. Although I do hate she made an old man cry :)
She is so inspiring I was literally crying while she was talking
This is a REAL speech, i literally really cried.
What a beautiful child
I'm crying my eyes out!! 😭😭😭
Beautifully said. Accepted the award very humbly. An Intelligent, pretty, and talented 13 yr old, congratulations.
Her speech is so beautiful and Moonlight is very inspiring. Remember to stay gold and remain who we are in whatever situations we’re in
I hope she won’t get lost in the music industry and be like the same pop stars that have the same generic music... grace is an amazing person
If she does it still will be all new
she is just so real, whenever she talks i just feel like i see right into her soul.
Alan
“I now know my name” wow
she is amazing. She was a ordinary girl before she won the AGT. But she is standing on the stage now as a celebrity who has a power and gained fame.
I've heard a lot of ppl say "i don't deserve it", but it's the 1st time i really believe one/...
Right know I'm crying, you are so beautiful girl who has a beautiful soul, love you with all my heart Grace❤️.
