This brought tears to my eyes. The last time I took my 90yo Mom out for a desert cookout, about two months before she passed, we camped at a fire ring with a gorgeous view I believe just a few hundred meters from where you camped the first night. Such beautiful sunsets out by the Silverbells!
That Landy tho. Dude that is, and can be one awesome Overlanding vehicle with a bed rack RTT. Slide out stove , and a refrigerator . I love the simplicity of the truck and that bad boy would be so more dependable since it doesn’t have all of the electronic wizardry BS and not to mention, Easy to work on. That Landy is real diamond in the rough. Great video Chris, stay safe, and happy trails 🙌🙌
You are "living the dream." Companionship and mutual goals for you two. I like your set up on Orangey but I'm going to miss your defender. Thanks for taking us along.
That was fun! Those are my back roads that I'm always exploring .. couple of mines back in there .. probably be back up in there yet this month. Nice video! 🤠
I am so glad that I was able to see and talk to you and Shannon before you left Tucson and started your venture north. I hope that you were able to fix the electrical problem today so that you were able to continue on to Phoenix.
Fun video Chris. I think the work you have put in to trying to keep the channel entertaining while the Jeep is being worked on, is under appreciated. Sure I miss the Jeep. I also own a JKU. But the Defender is esoteric, fun and interesting. I like!👍👌
Hey Chris, please pick up another Rotopax, used or new, just in case you run out of water in your Nalgenes or you spring a coolant leak! You are traveling in the desert. Keep the great vids a'coming and I look forward to your next one. Paul Sanders
Before you head out of the area, you should go check out the Kitt Peak National Observatory. It's a pretty cool way to spend a few hours, especially if you sign up for the night tours. Surprised Shannon hasn't had you put seat covers in the Defender yet😆😆😆 CHEERS from Colorado
Chris - two tips. 1. When camping in the desert, always bring your shoes in the tent with you at night - never can tell what will be in them in the morning otherwise. 2. Try El Charro on N. Court Ave in Tucson for lunch. Great Salsa and an amazing Carne Seca Platter.
Chris, on minute 16:09 is possible to see on the ball joint a not normal movement, I don’t know the name but I think is the ball joint from steering shock absorver. Your vídeos always fantastic!!!
1:23...love the view to the back on the climb..The terrain you set your tent up on seems pretty rocky..how do you keep it from damage? Can't believe you leave your shoes outside...I always get nervous about critters getting in!
Chris, I've been watching your channel almost since the beginning, and I love that you're doing some new types of shots (the shot of the footwell of the land rover, and the one from the back of the bed, for instance). I haven't noticed you doing these types of shots before, and they're really cool! Great channel!
I miss the old days in the Jeep. The raw freedom and exploration! The Revel and base camp seems to keep you tied down to an area or campground. The main character of your channel has been gone too long. I get it though. Throw a girlfriend into that lifestyle and you have to evolve. Get on a plane if you have to and get to your Jeep! It’s will feel so refreshing!
You’ve been in my area for a couple months now Geez I keep hoping we will bump into you….. Gilbert Ray is in our backyard. Have fun climbing around Brown Mountain!
FYI - Thatch is not really ready for prime time. Lots of bugs and issues. Just a warning to others. Great idea but they have a long way to go to get there. Looking forward to seeing your trip into the Pacific Northwest. A beautiful area we would like to spend more time...
First time I have seen one of your videos. It was interesting to me because I like 4 wheeling and I live only a few miles south of Gilbert Ray campground as the crow flies. Some of the video looked like the hills right behind my house and others kind of like the area farther west and north of Tucson. What area were you exploring?
I am always intrigued by folks leaving their shoes outside... do they find a lot of bugs, snakes and other living beings inside them in the morning? I would hate that...
Great episode. PSA, don't get low on water off grid in the desert even in the winter time. If you do, you are a breakdown away from potential disaster. Grew up in Southern Az.
It would be an interesting episode to hear about an strange or scary experiences you have had. Also have you had an negative experiences on the tail with other people.
Another video to just get by and produce some content. Hanging out in the campground with all the other RV owners. Van life video with obligatory cooking shot and some demeaning comments from Shannon. That was a peek behind the curtain. It's not all rosy or so it seems. Disappointing video ... 30 miles of backcountry roads in a week? He used to do that much backtracking in a day just to find a campground. Those were the old days!
Seems to be more bashing on this video than the past videos from what I can remember. His life has changed with Shannon. How can you expect it not to. He still travels into some fantastic country and does a great job filming, editing, and creating interesting content. After five years of producing videos things will change. Give the man a break. His life has changed and hopefully for him it's what he wants. As for the van, having something that's a little nicer is a refreshing addition to his comfort. As for his vehicles he said in the last video he wasn't sure if he was going to keep the Land Drover and Orangy will be back. Change in life is a good thing. I'm sure he'll continue to provide interesting content in some wonderful places. Keep up the good work Chris! IMO, if you don't like how his life and video content has changed go find another channel to follow.
Chris gave an update at the end of last week's video. Repairs are complete. As he stated at the end of this video, they'll be inching their way back to N. OR to reunite with it.
I guess I'll just have to accept that "Shannon cam" shot from an iPhone will be a regular feature of this channel now... Not sure how much longer I'll be a subscriber, which is a shame, because I absolutely loved this channel.
I wish you would have taken me up on fixing your Jeep at my dads shop. It would have been turned around in less then a month. Blows my mind how long you have been without. Feel really bad for you. I hope they have been doing more then just swapping in a new crate engine or at least gave you some kind of epic deal. If you need help, just reach out and let me know. We can chat on Patreon if you want/need.
My opinion is they are happy for Chris but struggling with the change in the channel. Shannon & Chris seem great together but a channel that once traveled across North America & there was a sense of “where are we going to end up at the end of the week” and Chris shared that life, including the life maintenance, has turned into … drive out to collect “content” for two days … max … just feels forced or that he doesn’t enjoy it like he did … that is the feel I get … people miss the old Venture4wd. I have always felt this was the best channel on RUclips & never could figure out why it was not growing more … but lately I can see why the growth has been stagnant …
@@Mink_24 7 years or whatever it has been is a long time to live out of a jeep, I feel like that can get old. I imagine desire for creature comforts increases with age, as well.. things change and I guess it is unfortunate to see people reluctant to accept that and force blame on him being with another person. It is the direction Chris has taken and THAT is the path the channel was always on. That is how I see it, anyway.
I don’t think Chris replies to any comments. I can’t recall any. That is not a good way to grow a channel. Plus he is in love again. I don’t have to explain what that does to one.
He has never replied but somehow the channel lives on. As far as him having a companion, what is the problem with that? It's been many months now and people are still watching.. what is everyone's problem with Chris having some love in his life?
I don't know Chris, I've been a follower for a few years now, originally just enthralled with watching your videos, couldn't wait for the next one to come out. But now it's just like watching snowbirds in an RV (van) and that content is not very compelling. I don't think it is just orangie that is missing. Your life has changed and the content just isn't as interesting to watch. Still a fan but whereas I used to sit down with a cup of coffee to watch your videos, now I just skip through them very quickly.
Perhaps your tastes have changed, and there's nothing wrong with that. I still find the same energy from the channel and have been enthralled to watch these videos as they come out every week. If a channel does the exact same thing over and over, they stagnate; the change he's bringing to the channel, IMO, is very welcome and fun.
I also agree that maybe your interest have changed. Also, keeping our attention for 100% of his videos is not easy for a content creator. So, I can't fault him. This is his full time job and source of income. Well, we now know he has a girlfriend and that has changed dynamics. But hey, when he has a good night and gets laid well throughout the night, he may not be as productive the next day like he used to be when he was all alone and never getting sum in any night! Can't fault him. I still enjoy the content.
He used to so involved with the surrounding into deep wilderness, his camera and narrative tell the story. Maybe after several years exploring on the unpaved road in the West, his passion wanes down little, and more like a "full time job". Or maybe a family man naturally see world in different angle. I still enjoy his production though. I'm a fan of foresty forest. He has not changed his production style for many years.
Still waiting for you to get a fire pan and quit using rock fire rings. Best thing is no crappy music. More nature shots and less about you eating junk food would be nice otherwise carry on.

Thanks for your videos, days when things aren't going so well,I find your videos get my mind back on course.

The work that you have done providing cool angles and scenery is awesome.
There are 2 ways to learn about scorpions:

2. is to leave your shoes on the ground at night 6:56 🦂

I thought you would enjoy the backpacking meals. At least you can mix it up more than what you make yourself 🤣. Ready for orangey to be back!
I am so glad that I was able to see and talk to you and Shannon before you left Tucson and started your venture north. I hope that you were able to fix the electrical problem today so that you were able to continue on to Phoenix.
The shot at 13:30 of the petrograph man on the rock, and you in the same position in the background was a nice touch.
Great video this week! The Defender is my favorite vehicle on RUclips at the moment. Keep exploring and enjoy life.

Great video, Chris. I camped at Gilbert Ray in Saguaro last October. Nice campground.

The only thing missing with the Landrover...the wallabies.

Hey Chris, have you considered removing the stripes from the Defender?
oh please tell me you shake out your shoes that have been sitting out all night before putting them on in the morning!
By the time you get back up to your jeep you will be done driving that low geared for highway truck and im sure a/c is poor in hot summer
