I was told years ago that if people had to pawn their Medals, they would file their names off because of embarrassment and shame, especially if they couldn't redeem them.
I found my great grandfathers medal from WWI as he fought with Scottish Canadian Highlanders and became wounded In a battle ( not sure which one) then proceeded to fight in paschendale where he was killed I wish I knew more
Hi. Being fairly new to this interesting subject, can anyone point me in the direction of linking a service number of a soldier and name with their date of birth and how I would go about this as the medal record does not appear to show the dob anywhere.
I would love to find my grandfathers medals from ww1.he was killed on the Somme in 1916 and was a member of the ox and bucks regiment and my fathers eldest brother had these medals and they unfortunately went missing after his premature death from cancer.his name was Albert Evans. It would be good to know an organisation that perhaps could help me trace them ?.Noel Evans
