- The DCT gearbox fitted to the F10 M5/F13 M6 (among other DCT equipped M cars) is a great unit, and is incredibly strong. The weak point, is the clutch, which we find can hold up to around 700ft/lb, but this can vary due to age, mileage and even manufacturing variances. Whilst 700ft/lb is A LOT of torque, the S63 engine with stock turbos can actually produce more than this, upwards of 750ft/lb is possible, and for those wanting to forge their engine and go to uprated turbos, a new clutch pack is essential to transfer the massive amount of torque that can be produced.
We tested 2 options, and found the SSP Spec-R clutch to be the best option, rated to 900ft/lb it will take more torque than a stock engine could ever dream of making. Drivability is unaffected and pricewise it's comparable to an OEM replacement, making it a no-brainer if you're experiencing clutch slip.
With this upgrade fitted we then apply our Stage 2+ map, which unlocks a little more from the engine, allowing it to produce more torque than a stock clutch could handle, and turning the F10 M5/F13 M6 in to a truly supercar beating monster.

Awesome. Can't wait to do this to my m6! At what mileage would you recommend changing clutches in general ??
Couldn't comment on untuned, our development F10 M5 started to slip at 40k, but that was because we were developing the Stage 2+ tune. Unsure at what rough mileage one would need replacing due to your normal wear, and not due to too much torque.
Also how many launches can one do in a m5 f10 before wearing out the dct?

thanks for video very informative and high quality! i am running stage two on my 2015 M5 at this moment, just a tune and downpipes pushing 729 wtq and 700whp, my tuner moved max torque from low rpm to 3500-4000 so i don't break axels or diff mount, my clutches are doing fine for now, do you think i still have to upgrade my clutches for future reliability ? thanks.
With any power increasing modification you'll increase the wear rate of components. If your clutch is holding fine at the moment then that's great, until you start to see clutch slip I'd leave it. Or you could upgrade and have the car tuned further because you wouldn't be worrying about the clutch.
We don't have much experience with driveline shock damage from launching as we do roll-on/runway racing not launching on a prep'd drag surface.
What is the maximum who the m5 f10 can handle safley with a tune?
Is the same possible with a e92 M3 with its DCT transmission?

The DCT box is shared between a lot of cars. It's the same gearbox as the F8x and E9x M3.

Thinking of getting you to do catless Downpipes, does this make a difference and does it make passing the mot difficult, does the emissions light stay on ?

Nice.. I don't agree with a 4 door car being called a coupè.. for me this name/title is reserved for 2 door cars.. the sloping roofline blah blah blah..
