Thank you very much, my HCD-GRX10AV/RX110AV seems to have the same deck, and it helped a lot to watch your video because it had some important hints how to handle the middle motor. I was able to repair the directly connected deck yay! But the one on the right side (from behind) there the up/down mechanism of the magnetic head seems to be stuck.
@@stephensrailways do you mean the casette audio head? I think I should maybe lubricate all the wheel axles, because meanwhile it seems that over time the audio gets slower and I am not sure if these two defects are maybe connected.

They should turn and spring back if you try and move them by hand with the power off. It might be worth trying this a couple of times to free them off, especially if its been a while since the deck was last used.

Hi, i have a question for you, a few days ago i noticed a sudden change in volume output, it got noticeably weaker, my guess is that it's amplifier's fault, do you have any tips how i could save this old friend of mine? There are no specialists in my area, probably gonna have to repair this bad boy myself and any help would be much appreciated.
Hi, apologies for the slow reply. I have not yet opened my amplifier yet, so unfortunately I'm not sure exactly what the problem could be. I could be a dodgy capacitor, a transistor or anything else for that mattter. If you do find out, please let me know, as it would be a shame to let such a good unit go!
Sorry, but the critical part is disassembly the front panel section and your video is too quick to understand. Is it possible to do it without disassembling the CD Dect? I saw it from the service manual but it's not so clear.
Found one of these in the trash, display was totally dead, cd player and cassette player werent working, i couldnt find any replacement displays sooo... i just threw it back in the bin, i kinda regretted it
You may not even have this player anymore.. but do you remember if the bottom black gear in the middle that's behind the two large wheels, is spinning one each deck when you manually spin the main wheel? Problem I'm having is I was messing around manually moving the belts and the left tape deck got stuck in 'Play' mode. There is a white eject lever at the top that is raised and should be lowered before the power is turned on. The right side has no problem opening and closing the eject lever but the left side won't spin the black gear like the right side. Which is what causes the lever to eject. May be a chipped gear but it was working fine. Was hoping I'm just not understanding the mechanism. You have to literally take out every gear to see what the issue is and that's a real pain in the ass. 😠😄
@@stephensrailways Wouldn't expect you to take it apart again just for me. Just curious if you remembered. I 'think' the gear only moves when the white lever is down. There appears to be a specific sequence of turning gears required to activate the lever. Once the lever is up, it's not clear how you enter the sequence to get it back down again. Was working on this as a Christmas present for my neice. I managed to replace the belt and laser on the CD player and that part is working excellent. Wish I hadn't manually messed with the cassette belts. Probably would be working if I hadn't. Maybe a diagram of how it works exists if I keep looking. If you happen to look at yours in the next month or so, be careful not to go too far with the lever and end up in my situation. By the way my model Sony is a HCD-RX66. But the tape mechanism appears to be the same as yours. Good luck with the move. 🙂
@@stephensrailways I figured it out. The large white plastic piece that's underneath that spool of wire was apparently blocking the steel mechanism from sliding to the side. Once I pushed it away from the mechanism the black gear started moving and finally the lever came back down. 🙂 So far tapes are playing on side B only. I noticed when I put a tape in Side A it stops playing after a few seconds because the wheels don't turn at all on that side. Despite being installed correctly. I think the long belt I have on there might not be tight enough to spin the wheels connected to the other side. Also the motor is loud and sounds like it's working harder than it should. I had added silicone grease to the belts. But big relief for progress at least. Sorry for the ramblings.
@overnightdelivery check the belt that drives deck A, it may have slipped out of the pulley on the motor. Mine did this when I first changed the belts and the tape played at the wrong speed then
@@stephensrailways Both belts are on very securely. Really seems like there is a broken bearing/spring that's seized up in that circular plate From Side A that connects to side B. It can only be spun around a few times and then will not budge. The wheels and gears on that side spin perfectly fine but seem to be stopped from moving. I'm assuming all the wheels on both sides move for you when the tape deck is first powered on.
Re your comment on the volume control, I had a similar problem..... I took the case off, blew all the dust off the whole inside, now works fine !

Yes, the ribbon cable supplies power to the cassette/CD player. Maybe there's a dry joint where it plugs in that's come loose?
