I am back! Thank you to everyone who has checked in over the last month. Hopefully you will understand after watching this video why I took a short break from RUclips. Can't wait to share more content with you soon! Barry
Wow, I think you did a beautiful job on this dresser. I know you said it isn’t your style but you would never know by how much love you put in it. I would buy it any day of the week! Lol
Even though you knew it couldn't be restored you made it as beautiful as you could. Cause you love furniture:) Love the new shop and wish you all the best :)
Yea, the espresso does hide the natural wood grain but it’s still loads better than the starting point. Love the tips you provided along the way! Thanks for another awesome video while I get my treadmill time in! Cheers!
I am so glad that you are well. I was worried that something happened to you., but wasn't sure how to find you. Your booth looks wonderful, and I see several things that I'm interested in purchasing. Will you shipp them to me. I'm in Colorado. Of course I'll pay shipping.Still Love your videos and look forward to seeing more fabulous projects. God Bless P.S. I have found a few brass things I want to send you but not sure where to send them.
I’m sure someone will like that finish it came out great since you can still see the wood character and always try to see what is popular in other stores so that you can use those looks, profit lies in the customers taste and not our own! Also try a quick sand with a coarse paper on thick finishes before stripping it helps open the surface of the finish for better penetration of the stripper, also try mixing stains to get a more appealing color if you’re not satisfied with what you have, also congrats on your new booth I hope all goes well!
It's a shame what you uncovered, but I think you did this piece proud. The wood grain looks lovely with the final stain. I'm new to your channel and I'm really enjoying it.
Barry, welcome back! We all missed you. Your mall space looks fantastic. And a corner, no less. Nice piece of real estate to showcase your inventory. I had to push my eyeballs back in after seeing that orange groovy sectional. BAM! That'll get anyone's attention walking by. I'm curious, how did the burn-out section on top of the dresser turn out after the dark finish? Again, happy you're back. xo 🐢
Love the dark finish. It may not be what you originally wanted but sometimes beauty comes from necessity. Regardless it now has the chance to be loved for many more years!
It's great to see you back, Barry! Your booth at the antique mall is fantastic! The chest of drawers turned out really good. If you want to really darken oak but still allow the grain to show, lye, (if you can find it), is a good way to do that. Of course, it needs to be diluted. Lye reacts with the tannins in oak, and it actually burns them. The longer it is left on the wood the darker the wood will get, but it still lets the grain of the wood show. You did a fantastic job on the piece! It is definitely MUCH BETTER than the way you found it! Looking forward to your next video! 👍
Came out nice! I would like to see your journey with opening the shop. Some inspiration for you: I rented the ugliest room in the town and opened My furniture shop! First day of my new furniture store! I gave 100 dollars to first client to buy something! :) Difficulties makes a good drama for videos.
I always appreciate your reasoning for doing projects like this - to save these pieces from utter doom. And that you did. This dresser looks rather masculine and could work in a multitude of spaces - living room, dining area, entry, office, place of business, and yes, even a bedroom. Very nicely done as always, Barry.
This turned out very differently than I'd supposed. But beautiful. Your workmanship, your mesmerizing voice! So glad I found you! I wish I could join your Patreon support, but alas, I'm crippled and trying to live on, not even regular SS, but Supplemental Security Income and Medicaid, which is impossible. So I cannot help you except with fervent admiration. So glad you came back
I am using this to guide what to do with a dresser ,solid oak, long left mostly stripped and just waxed but now to be finished. Thought of painting, liming, staining light. Am going to see what the process of finish totally stripping leaves me ,as you did. So much of life leads to different solutions than originally intended, doesn't it? Thank you for showing how you thought it through.
Glad to see you are back! Totally classy piece with nice hardware. Would love to see a close-up of the desk where you keep your sander- it looks so intriguing as to its design. You have a unique workshop filled with treasures!!!
I really like how it turned out. I’m fond of dark colors & the espresso shade is dark without being black. I would have hesitated to use a shade that dark. It’s so lovely I’m going to order that 4 a family piece I’m working on. I live how u are always so patient working on things.
It turned out really well Barry but a shade too dark for my taste. You have endless patience when it comes to stripping off paint, I would have taken an axe to it!
I didn’t care for the dark finish. It looked like black. The gray and white as it originally had looked was nicer. But, there are a lot of people who like black/dark finishes. 😊 I did like the way you used the glue and sawdust to repair the veneer damaged places.
what a pleasing feeling to see that woodgrain appearing under that horrible grey paint.....i used to find it very satisfying when I did anything like this, I wish I was fit enough to still be doing this.......baeautiful job ...I love it.
Wow! This was different with a great result!!! 👍 To watch this, as you said it was a practice piece, is reassuring in the way, that we have to practice and learn skills. 😉 Thank you!!!
the dark is actually chic looking I think it was a good move. the only thing I don't like about you working in the winter? your arms are covered up! :) congrats on the shop hunk!
You are such an amazing artist! This dresser turned out just gorgeous! Congrats on the new space. I'm gonna have to take a trip to Madison in the spring to see your new space and to visit my sister. Good luck!
So glad you used the original hardware
Me too

Hi Barry, where have you been??? I missed you!🤨
Well done. Welcome back !
I’m relieved your back, as I LOVE your videos, and appreciate the time it takes you to do them. Welcome back! ❤️
Yay! Missed your videos, but having your own vintage booth sounds so exciting, congratulations, 👏
Your own booth.. WOW!
Still glad to have you back though. Good luck with your booth. ❤
That sofa is amazing!
I love it
@MadCityModern if I was in the US, I'd have it for my house :)
Im glad you got a shop heater
Wow. Really great outcome. You did such a great job.
Wow, I think you did a beautiful job on this dresser. I know you said it isn’t your style but you would never know by how much love you put in it. I would buy it any day of the week! Lol
Amazing! It went from unsuitable garish, to classy.
Wow…. It is stunning!!!
I've had a couple projects that had paint embedded so far into the wood that I gave up and painted again. Made me sad but there it is.
I completely understand
Still turned out beautiful!
I think you did a fabulous job with what you had to work with and not spend too much money.
Beautiful!❤😊
I think it came out gorgeous
Fabulous job
Thank you Denise
Just a thought. Maybe a white stain could have kept it lighter. But it might not have had the covering ability to give an even shade.
Beautiful job. Spectacular result!
I like how it turned out. Very nice!
My parents had that bedroom set in a cherry/reddish colored veneer. Those round drawer pulls were not the original, it was a larger round pull.
Wow looks fantastic well done 👍🏻
Even though you knew it couldn't be restored you made it as beautiful as you could. Cause you love furniture:) Love the new shop and wish you all the best :)

holy cow...I love it!
Wow great job
You refinishers are so patient. I could never do this. That's why I'm glad I can watch you! Great job, gorgeous stall. TFS ❤️🏏🎸
Thank you so much
Hi Barry! Welcome back!
Hi, great job, well done. Cheers from Italy ;-)
Thank you! Missed you in the chat

Great suggestion! Thank you for the help
Turned out great, I actually like the dark stain on it.
Thank you. I actually did too
It's a shame what you uncovered, but I think you did this piece proud. The wood grain looks lovely with the final stain. I'm new to your channel and I'm really enjoying it.
Have you ever tried sawdust in detailed areas with a brush to remove stripper.
Yes. Sometimes I forget that trick. Thanks for the reminder
Beautiful job again Barry. Thank you for the video I always look forward to your uploads. 😌
Thank you Allison

xo 🐢
Great question. The dark stain helped conceal the damage, so I was pleased
You did a wonderful job but the dark colour just isn't one of my favorites. Love that couch in your selling space!
I can completely understand. Thank you for watching and commenting
I wish you hadn't made it so dark. Looks like you painted it black.
I have to say, for a project that didn't go exactly as planned, you sure ended up with a sharp-looking result! Very nice!
Somewhere on RUclips, there's probably a video of someone showing the process of scuff-sanding and painting that very piece.
This one made me laugh
Your booth looks like decor heaven to me. The dresser has been saved even if not in the finish you had envisioned, and it lives again.😄
Thank you so much
And will live on for many more years to come.
Your booth has some beautiful pieces.... love the orange sofa!!!

Your restoration work is as usual exceptional! You also do an amazing job with camera angles, editing, and voiceover! Bravo 👏🏽 👏🏽
Thank you so much 😀
This black finish is very popular in some markets. You did well with what you had to work with. You ALWAYS give it your best.

Wow! This is awesome. Would love to hear about your own experiences on your channel. Love your videos. Take care my friend
Glad to see you back my friend😉 very elegant result 👌
Thank you! Cheers!
To finish previous comment, as an 80 year young woman,,I really enjoy seeing someone young doing this worthwhile task.

Just watching your work and listening to the tone of your voice has saved me so much money on therapy. I feel so zenn.😊😊
Wow!
Hello from Lewistown, PA. I'm very much enjoying your channel. My late grandfather was a finish work carpenter.

Maestro, ha realizado un gran trabajo. No parece el mismo mueble. Creo que sus decisiones han sido acertadas.
Enhorabuena.
Satisfying....using carving tools to clean out the drawer groove and dental tools to get the small stuff. Love the outcome despite your blooper!

That looks nice, much better than painting it. I'd have probably gone with a few coats of the oak, but I just don't like black, so that's me.

That turned out great Barry. Glad you’re back. Have missed you and your videos.
The espresso finish looks very classy. Baby dresser, all grown up.
I think it really turned out well. You should be proud.
Thank you Neil
enjoy watching you. you are so patient when doing your thing...... take care
I learn lots from you Barry your friend from Prince Edward Island Canada.
Nice. So much better than paint. Painting wood furniture is a real pet peave of mine.
I think this turned out fantastic, you put an enormous amount of elbow grease into this piece.
amazing, looks a thousand times better than it originally did.
Thank you Joyce
Мы не увидели боковые стороны комода, идеальную красоту,
чтобы сравнить с тем, что было.
El resultado final....perfecto
Saludos desde ANDALUCÍA, ESPAÑA 😉 👍
Thank you Teresa
Si ya lo tenía lijado todo el mueble en madera natural, porque lo pintó. 🙈
Nice Rolex! Looks sharp
Thanks
I love that old Electrolux in the background, was that from the 1950s?
1940s. I showed it in my most recent video
Welcome back!!!!!, For being a Bassett piece I'm surprised the handles aren't solid brass
I agree. They definitely had different levels of furniture quality
Custou a tirar a tinta.pintou de novo.horrivel
Beautiful work! And oh my gosh, that couch you showed in the beginning is GORGEOUS 😍
Thank you!! 😊
Best of luck w your vintage booth..everyone will surely see the quality of your workmanship
I appreciate that Susan
It turned out real nice! Black is a good color choice.

Thank you so much for this great feedback
the dark is actually chic looking I think it was a good move. the only thing I don't like about you working in the winter? your arms are covered up! :) congrats on the shop hunk!
This made me laugh
I am glad you are back
I’ve missed your videos
Btw I do like the finish on this piece. Job well done !
Thank you Mark!
Your booth looks great; one of the best I've ever seen!
You are such an amazing artist! This dresser turned out just gorgeous!
Congrats on the new space. I'm gonna have to take a trip to Madison in the spring to see your new space and to visit my sister. Good luck!
Thank you so much. Let me know when you visit
Welcome back!!! Glad you are ok and had no motive to be worried with your absence ☺️
Thank you!! 😊
This piece would be lovely in a man's dressing room.
Yes!
Nice to see you back, and happy to hear about your exciting new plans, hope that goes well for you.
Thank you so much
A lot of hard work on your part, but sad that the stain was so dark, can't see any of the oak wood grain. You might as well have painted the dresser.
Agreed. Too many coats of stain muddled the hard work.
It looks great! Glad to see you back! I would love to visit your shop, I bet it would be fantastic!! Take care!
*It looks beautiful after renovation* 👏🤩
OMG, that sofa can you ship to Sweden 🤣...
No, but I'd love to visit Sweden again 😁
Beautiful piece. Nicely done.
What a beautiful piece of art. Excellent work.
Thank you very much!
I learn a lot from your videos!
Looks great. So much patience you have!
Thank you! 😊
Плохо видно,очень темно смотрится.
I love it! it's classic and clean.
That’s beautiful!!🎉
Curious, how much time did it take you to get all that paint off?
This one only took a few hours. The time in between is always used to upload my video clips, so it works well
Glad to see a new video and congratulations on your new booth!
Thank you!
I hope you store diapers in there now 🤣. Nice job!
Too funny
I think it turned out beautifully. Great job.
Thank you Chanda
