This is my first time to your channel, your work is impeccable!!! I will definitely be back, you've also peaked my interest in seeing the video of the piece at the end. A great big thank you for the referral to Birch Living. I've wanted a new mattress for a long time, but couldn't find anything that match the quality of what I had. I am grateful because I need the support of a good mattress. Also,❤the added information at the end!!!
Barry, you are becoming a sophisticated furniture historian/refinisher/restorer from week to week. You are a teacher as well. That buffet is beautiful in the color Candlelight. It's a lovely design.
Hi Barry! That buffet looked quite sad with all that ugly yellow paint. It looked like at least part of it was spray paint. The finished product was gorgeous!! You have great talents not only with furniture restoration but also storytelling! I always enjoy your videos! Can't wait for the next one!!!
Thank you for the education with wood grains. My father had great knowledge of woods and the love of showing off the beauty in each piece. So glad to see you appreciate that as well.
Hello from rural Norfolk UK. Discovered your channel yesterday and have watched quite a few videos, your style is so relaxing and informative. You have inspired me to 'restore' my two 50s kitchen chairs properly. I purchased a carbide scraper this morning and have spent nearly 3 hours removing old varnish. Thank you for sharing your work.
Lucky you to find it at all. There are so many others doing this now. But you’ve hit the best one! Barry has lots of great, soothing videos. I’m from Melbourne, Australia. He has followers from all over the world. I can’t “do” but I love to watch restorations. Welcome to the club❤️🦘
You took it back to its original beauty, great work! I loved the info about the trees. Where I live, I can’t just go out into the woods to find oak trees. There are no deciduous forests here, only coniferous. I think oak trees are amazing!
Where I live in Canada you see big old Oak trees in the middle of a field, farmers work around them, as they respect just how long it takes them to grow.
Oh Barry, thank you for giving the little brass goat such a good home. I knew he would love Wisconsin. He’s having so much more fun in your home than he was with me.
Your work is amazing. With proper care a well crafted piece of furniture can live for generations. The top of the buffet is absolutely gorgeous, the pattern is beautiful. Keep bringing these “abused” pieces back to life.
I can understand why this type of refinished piece would sell well. Not only is it beautiful, it is great storage for any room. I never find your little brass figures in your videos because I get too distracted watching you work and forget to look for them, lol.
The dark stain may not have been your first choice, but I think it suits this piece perfectly. As ways, thank you for adding to our "tree of knowledge".
Oh wow....! I have that exact same (in mahogany) buffet in my house, complete with the same hardware. It was my maternal grandmother's buffet she had in her dining room (the very house I bought and live in) along with a matching six-foot, drop-leaf table and six matching chairs. Unlike this buffet, mine has never been painted and is in pristine condition!
Your music, your voice & your whole approach to a piece of furniture brings PEACE … thank you! (Of course I didn’t get those hidden things! In a good way tho I was daydreaming!)
Wonderful video ❤ and the restoration is beautiful. Another special one. Why its Forest... Forest Gump. Great movie 😊 I love learning from you and the wood to me looks like Walnut possibly?
I love this piece and of course you refinished it to perfection. I have a vintage Duncan Fife dining room table and a Duncan Fife sofa that I inherited from my grandmother. This buffet looks like the same era…so maybe it’s a Duncan Fife style? In any case you definitely gave it back it’s dignity. Before it looked like it had been hit by a school bus.
Hello you dear, dear man. My heart sings when I see such a beautiful restoration. In my mind, the piece looks proud again and so happy to have met you. (I guess I watched it twice, doh.)
G’day Barry and greetings from Down Under. I love watching you bring these painted items back to their original condition and this one was no exception. It was a beautiful design with just enough character and the original brass handles finished it off perfectly. Until next time, take care. 😘💕🇦🇺
Barry, that is absolutely beautiful. I have a terrible time being disciplined while watching your videos. I love the process, but like reading a good book, I have to force myself not to skip to the end! Your are always the first video I watch when you post. Long time viewer from Littleton, CO.
Beautiful, I love the natural wood. I once worked at a plant where we made interior door and window frames covered in veneer so I got to see and learn some exotic species. It was very educational.
Beautiful result, as always. Thank you for the additional info on identifying trees and how the various cutting methods result in different grain patterns. So much to learn!
I am new to the channel and I really appreciate what you do. I love watching you. Bring the furniture back to what it was or better. It’s very soothing to watch this.
Oh, SO much nicer stained than painted!! I always love seeing the beautiful end product that you manage to make from the ugliest pieces. Now another generation can enjoy this lovely piece of furniture.
This reminds of my parents' lovely buffet, which they bought after WWII, sometime during the late 40s or early 50s. It graced our dining room throughout my growing up years. This piece was lovely to see-- a pleasure to see it restored. Terrific video, thank you, Barry.
I love watching you breathe new life into pieces! Stunning ❤ Also listening to you narrate your process is like a form of “grounding” for me - so peaceful calming and down to earth 😊
wow, finding out that information about the Tiger Patters and that white oak is real cool. This old dog got taught something new. great work as always.
Lord have mercy! You are just like my husband. He always has a video playing when he works in the garage. He has 3 TV's set up so he can watch from anywhere in the room! Then I saw your roll top desk! I bought him one for his birthday. The top veneer was coming off so I got it on sale and paid $1100 to get it fixed. It was dated around 1910.
Can’t wait for the Barbie dresser. I just subscribed so I won’t miss it. I love listening to your soothing voice. Thank you for sharing all the wonderful information you uncover during the restoration process.
I always find refinishing mahogany to be enjoyable. That “golden glow” that comes out of the grain as you hand rub the topcoat makes it worth the hard work that goes into it.
Beautiful work on the buffet and I appreciated the info at the end about tiger oak because in just the last couple of days I ran across a home tour video of a vintage home with oak trim and the host went on and on about how tiger oak is so special because "they don't make it anymore". Since there are still oak trees all over in the upper Midwest and there are a lot of independent sawmills I could not believe what she was saying. She was from the South, so perhaps it's a regional thing but in MN anyone can still get quarter sawn oak. Anyway, thank you for freeing that buffet from a trendy paint treatment and truly restoring it to its intended timeless appeal :)
Always a great video! I thought the buffet might be mahogany veneer. Another beautiful project. Thanks again for sharing your skills with us viewers. Always looking forward to your next adventure.
Well this piece brought back memories of my mother in 1976 taking her old birch veneer midcentury bedroom set and antiquing it blue to create a bicentennial bedroom for my brother's room. I never understood this idea of covering wood with primary colors, but to each their own. I did recognize the movie in the background , it was one of my favorite Sally Field performances. Candlelite gel stain is one of my favorites and it can hide any residual previous stains if they are a red tone in nature. This piece received new life and looks ready for a hallway entrance. Great episode.
I was glad to see that the hardware came out so good. Sometimes the plating is so far gone that polishing will make the hardware look worse. Good job. I hate when old furniture is painted because it is easier than refinishing.
New subscriber 🤗Love you take time & don't rush through these projects. Beautiful work😊 Watching you work & giving us lessons on the type of trees is Very Interesting! Thank you😃
Seeing you go outside to study the trees instantly reminded me of the story you told about your dad. 🌳 The sideboard turned out beautiful, Barry. It looks like the type of piece that would fit in just about any home.
Waving hi from far north side Milwaukee County. 👋🏻👋🏻 Grew up in the 1950s-1960s with a carpenter/wood working dad who had a rather large workshop in our basement. Thanks for bringing back memories. That turned out really nice.🤗👍
The buffet reminds me of much of the furniture we had inside military housing 40 years ago. It was old and the thick shellac coating was darkened. I wish I had been educated enough then to know what was underneath all of that dark shellac. It was tuff stuff and I imagine in larger cities anywhere near military bases it is still around. I have a Tiger oak dresser with mirror I rescued from my moms basement that was made by a furniture company in Seattle in the 1920’s. I love it and I love your channel. I look forward to all of your videos and enjoy rewatching my favorites of your older videos. I always seem to see something I think I’ve missed but probably have forgotten. Lol

I am enjoying my Birch Living mattress too. It is fabulous. Is all natural right down to the rubber, from plantation rubber trees. Thank you so much for introducing me to Birch Living. Your buffet this week is lovely. It’s slightly smaller size is perfect for smaller homes or condos. And i love the classic lines and colour. I know the candlelight is one of your favourites. Take care and I will see you next week.
Wow, Barry what a gorgeous transformation! Looks so much better than the yellow paint. Now it's a beautiful piece! Always love your videos, they are so informative! Thank you for sharing your awesome expertise with us! Have an amazing day! 😊

I believe he is a teacher here on his channel. 😉
Very cool, Barry! Can't wait for the Barbie dresser. 😅

Aww that yellow was hideous, that piece was begging to have its dignity restored.
Barry, you are the Bob Ross of the Millennium. Your video presentation and voice are so soothing.😊
I second that❤ !!! I was thinking the same thing 😊 he has that soothing tone of voice and artistic flair.
Thank you for the education with wood grains. My father had great knowledge of woods and the love of showing off the beauty in each piece. So glad to see you appreciate that as well.

Another great job Barry. I enjoyed seeing the "donor" trees and how boards are cut to show the grain. Keep strong.
Glad you enjoyed it

I really liked the shape of this sideboard. Thank goodness you removed the school bus yellow.

My guess was Duncan Fife also. That sideboard, buffet, etc, is a Classic Beauty.
Oh... Forest Gump... I forgot to look for the little brass guy... but I was mesmerized watching the transformation... what a lovely piece in the end!
