Colonial Hawai’i has been overthrown by American businessmen, just as an outbreak of leprosy engulfs the tropical paradise. The new government orders all Native Hawaiians suspected of having the foreign disease banished permanently to the island of Moloka'i, that becomes known as 'the island of the living grave'. When a local cowboy named Ko’olau and his young son Kalei contract the dreaded disease, they refuse to allow their family to be separated, sparking an armed clash with the brutal island authorities that will make him, and his wife Pi’ilani, heroes for the ages.
Jason Scott Lee (Mulan, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story), Johnathon Schaech (The Night Clerk), Henry Ian Cusick (TVs Lost) and Lindsay Watson (Finding ‘Ohana) headline this breathtaking, acclaimed epic from the writer of Young Guns, Thunderheart and Hildago.

Scott Lee was fantastic in that Bruce Lee movie many years ago. I'm in, I'll definitely watch this, thank you.
Jason Scott Lee was fantastic in a little-known, time-period piece from 1994, "Rapa Nui". On pre-European Easter Island, the Polynesian people are slowly and inexorably destroying the ecology of their small island. Jason Scott Lee is the son of the current ruling chief of the socially and politically dominant "long ears" Polynesians. Lee wants to run in the annual race to swim to an offshore island, snatch an egg from a particular bird species and return it intact to the main island. The winner becomes king for a year. Lee intends socially reform the island's economy, social structure and injustices. He wins the contest but is too late. The next morning the Long Ears High Priest provokes a full scale rebellion among the underclass 'Short Ears' Polynesians. In the bloodshed that follows, the Long Ears people are vanquished and exterminated, many burned inside their own defensive ditch filled with fire. Easter Island is completely ruined, ecologically, socially, and politically. Worse, Long Ear survivor Lee sees starving Short Ear men consuming the cooked flesh of dead Long Ear people from the ditch. Lee and his beloved Short Ear wife flee the island on a small outrigger canoe saved for them by a former counselor friend to Lee's father. He stays behind while Lee and his wife board the outrigger and flee as growing sounds of the increasing social upheaval and chaos reach their ears.
Nice to see Jason Scott Lee with another starring role. Been 30 years since Dragon The Bruce Lee Story and he still looks great...
He should have gotten an academy award for Dragon….he killed it…
So good to see Scott-Lee again.
It is horrible what a few guys (including Mr. Dole) did to the independent nation of Hawaii. Bad stuff man.
Yes, THE RECKONING is also known as THE WIND AND THE RECKONING. This will be the premiere release for the film in Australia and New Zealand...and you are going to love it!
I would love to see this movie!
Dude never aged.
This looks good, I'm just surprised Hollywood didn't make the bad guys British
Is this film being re-released ? This is from 2022...THE WIND AND THE RECKONING, with Jason Scott Lee and Harry Ian Cusick.
Jason Scott Lee is Half Native Hawaiian.
Never knew that, I thought he was only Chinese, but he is Hawaiian and Chinese, interesting.
@@marcd1981 Yup. Half Chinese, Half Native Hawaiian.
Hawai fue el primero en reconocer la soberania argentina sobre las islas Malvinas, genios
Yeahhhh… Jason Lee. Oooossshhh
I'm not certain if it is historically correct to depict the American soldiers wearing Civil War uniforms. By 1893 their uniforms should resemble the ones worn in the 1898 Spanish-American War. The kepi hat was long gone, replaced by a cowboy-like Stetson hat. The blue Civil War tunic would be replaced by a long-sleeve blue shirt that tucked inside the trousers. The blue trousers, which were looser in the Civil War are now tighter-fitting breeches. The soldiers should be wearing the iconic, historical calf leggings used by Doughboys in WW1 and by Marines and G.I.s in WW2. Firearms should be the Springfield, breech-loading, Allin trapdoor, single-shot. A Springfield trap-door breech-loader could fire off 8 to 10, well-aimed shots per minute compared to 3 shots per minute for the Civil War Springfield muzzle-loader. Fast firing with the Allin trapdoor could achieve12 shots per minute with less aiming time.
EDIT: In the 1890s reserve components of the United States Army, still a very small organization until 1898, were still dressed in mostly Civil War kit. The firearm was of course the one-shot, breech-loading Springfield Allin trapdoor rifle.
The new government of Hawaii asked for annexation to the United States but were turned down by President Cleveland. His successor, President McKinley, was devoted to American Manifest Destiny and thus more favorable to the invitation of annexation. He had a good reason. Hawaii was a perfect location for an American naval base for refueling, refitting, repairs, and extending American naval power into the Pacific. Hawaii would serve as America's first line of national defense in the Pacific, rather than rely on the West Coast itself. Between Hawaii and the West Coast lay 2,200 miles of sheer, empty eastern Pacific Ocean.
That's not important. What is important is that they are ugly, dirty and mean, and the Natives are beautiful, clean and fresh and the kindest souls in the Universe. That's all the historical accuracy needed.
@@Cobalt1520 Yes, the trailer made the American soldiers look dirty, grungy, and likely smelly. But that is in keeping with historical accuracy. Access to showers and baths were few and far between back then. There are a lot of fans who are into historical accuracy including military uniforms and arms.
@@jeffyoung60 ah, but not the natives. Those were not smelly, those had access to "showers". The american military made point of honor of NOT cleaning up even when had the chance, including officers, right? All those films from wwii of soldiers bathing in rivers and shaving whenever they had opportunity, all fantasy or propaganda. Im not saying they had to look sterilised, but im sure they would at least wash their faces once per week!!!
I knew it wasn't gonna be accurate the moment he used the word "gender", that word wasn't even invented in 1898 yet, lol.
The history of Hawaii is part of the “Herald of the American Empire” and is as bad as the taking of Mexican land that became about 1/3 of the U.S. The so called treaties with Hawaiian leaders were one sided and were unlawful as those leaders didn’t represent the peoples, like the deal the Dutch made with the Indians for Manhattan who didn’t “own” Manhattan. What interesting is that American Indians, Hawaiians, and indigenous peoples in the Mexican Cession have moved on unlike the territorial disputes in the Middle east and Asia that survive 150 years.
Will we get a notification when this comes out?
Seen this movie about a hundred times.
How is that possible it just came out? It’s not about Native Americans and English people but Hawaiian people and the English
@@Cr8zyFloridaGal He's racist - they're all the same to him. Gotta love white people...
@@Cr8zyFloridaGal It's just like all the other movies about "Natives and mean white people". What is important is that americans are ugly, dirty and mean, and the Natives are beautiful, clean and fresh and the kindest souls in the Universe. That's all the historical accuracy needed.
@@Cr8zyFloridaGal I think he meant the story or plot has been done many times before. And I agree, but unfortunately this is the history of the US.
Επιτέλους μια ταινία που οι λαοί μιλούν την γλώσσα τους και είναι χωρίς θηλυκά Ραμποϊδη.
They couldn't find a native Hawaiian ?
Relax, they are actors playing a part.
Exactly...and since when did Hawaiians speak native American Imdian?
Uh, isn't Jason Scott Lee of Hawaiian descent tho 🤔?
@@kenmorales9855 Hawaiian descent is NOT native Hawaiian
Probably but can't act, so good as its gonna get
Watching from Siksika
Why is Jason Scott Lee barely aging? Also... most references to this that I can find online call it "The Wind and the Reckoning" and date it as 2022...
Magical islands of Hawaii & her people have & continue to endure an invasive species than are not human kind only kind of human
Interestingly enough when indexed Comes up as "The Wind & The Reckoning"
Someone commented that was the original title, and this is being released in Australia and New Zealand as The Reckoning.

Another non native written film, don't haole' have their own stories to lie about. 😅
Ridiculous movie. Anything to stay woke in Hollywood, A must pass
History is simply “woke” to you? It’s actually important that we KNOW our history, ALL of it, to know and understand our own country. Sorry if you’d rather stick your head in the sand and deny that this country (including the original nation of Hawaii) were INVADED. Go back to whining about “the wave of invading immigrants coming over the border”.🙄
In reality, many of their families were already here thousands of years before white people invaded.
The problem with your comment is that this is actually American history, what happened to the Hawaiians. Very similar to what happened with Native Americans.
@@marcd1981 Pay close attention to anything they label as “woke”. Its usually them trying to hide their racist and discriminatory actions. And I bet the colonizers were responsible for the leprosy outbreak. Especially, since we know how they gave Native Americans blankets contaminated with smallpox and other diseases.
Land is not stolen, it is won or lost in battle. Everyone has been a colonizer, slaver, everything else that they now complain about.
It’s good you acknowledge that but that doesn’t excuse taking what isn’t yours.
Who had it before you? Who did they take it from? William Penn paid for Pennsylvania 3 separate times because 3 separate tribes stated that they were the rightful owners. The natives “stole” the lands from each other over and over. Still happening in Africa and other places as well.
You are incorrect when saying land is not stolen, it is won or lost in battle. There was no battle for the US, there was murdering of a people that have always lived in what is now called the US, and stealing everything from them.
Rooting for the white men 💪🏻.
Куда бы не пришли англо-саксы везде было одно и то же: геноцид местного коренного населения, разграбление и присвоение их ресурсов, а оставшиеся - выжившее население превращено в рабов.
Ничего личного, только деньги!
Lame
We, Americans!
Care to flesh that out a bit?
You're nothing
LOOKS LIKE CRAP!
They should have put Oprah in this film. She's good at burning and stealing land so she can purchase more for herself.
Lol
