@@SarahB1863 Yes, I believe I read that once as well, but my point remains. They did not know where they were going with the story. As if it was some sort of game, they kept resetting the narrative - a specialty of Bad Robot productions. I found Lost to be entertaining on occasion, and even intriguing once or twice, but by season three I had reached the point of “enough already.” I did make an exception for Evangeline Lilly, as my wife made one for Matthew Fox, so we kept watching and it was a real kick seeing Kevin Tighe play a villain. That is my best memory of this outside the premiere episode, which was stellar. It was the amount of red herrings J.J. It could have and should have been so much better, which (again) is characteristic of Bad Robot.

Thanks for confirming what I thought - I gave that show a season and a half then get bored.. you can get that magic in shows that aren't a complete waste of time..
Hello from October 2024! I rewatched the show for the second time and now I understand and feel it much more than when I watched it for the first time (which happened 6 years ago) Lost is just great ❤️❤️❤️
@gusbacon Because that was "Lost up to that point" It takes another four seconds for Hurley to say, "Then I take over for Jacob and we all come together after death."
I’m still confused. But it’s a great show. Needs multiple viewings! I think we all take what we need from it. Loved it! The finale made me cry and then I just sat in the quiet and thought about life for an hour.
I cried during nearly every single episode. Then I rewatched it and cried all over again. Then I cried at parts that shouldn't have made me cry the second time around because I knew the characters weren't really dead. I've never cried so much over one show. 😂
@Deathbringer99699 The Final Season revealed that many of the mysteries of the Island involved a guy called The Man in Black (because his name was never mentioned, he just wore a black robe) with supernatural powers that he gained from the mystical Source of the Island. Among these powers he had the ability to turn into a black smoke creature (yes, the Monster) and to create visions of dead people. The guy Locke saw in that old cabin was The Man in Black, not Jacob.
This reminds me of the bonus scene from the box set after the finale, viewers don't acknowledge how crazy the story becomes, when you make word of it though the freakishness really begins to unfold.
Relax guys. Obviously the show was quite popular and a lot of people loved it. Of course it's not for everybody. But there is no reason to insult someone else over their show preferences and opinions.
Did anyone else sense there was a link between Once Upon a Time (Netflix series) and lost? I liked them both but they also drove me up the wall. Both series did make me form a real bond with the characters though. Let’s face it, you start out on the journey not knowing they are going to be in your life for quite so long! They frustrate you with their struggles between good and bad and downright evil. You just keep willing them to ‘do better’
Well, 30 or so are still on that island, as far as he knows. The other 270 or so people aboard the plane died in the crash. Everyone seems to forget about them. Oh yeah plus the other 20 or so who died after the crash but before the Oceanic 6 left.
My first time watching the show, I started in season 4 and it was all over the place. 12 years later, I rewatched from the beginning, thinking that it would make more sense. Yeah that wasn't the case lol
A lot of what happened in Lost wasn't explained, and a lot of what happened may never be explained by sound science. But the reality of 11/12 of the series was explained, so any theories we have about its nature have to fit into that if we want to include every aspect of the show.
I liked Eko's line "Don't mistake coincidence for fate." But what if he had it backwards, brotha? What if we shouldn't mistake fate for coincidence? That's my theory about the Numbers, anyway. They're all a coincidence and can be ascribed to any meaning that any observer can put to them, whether it's the last 6 candidates, the key to saving the world from a scientific catastrophe, or just 6 numbers that people are somehow drawn towards for no reason. When you think about any explanation anyone will give about the Numbers, it always leaves the begging question, "Why those six numbers?"
@@ZuluRomeo I always thought of the Numbers as being about energy. Who has the right energy, due to their life experience, to defeat the Man in Black; the power of the transmitted numbers not just to open and close energy portals such as the hatch charge (perhaps that's how the Others came to and left the island, or made entry possible for new people, hence why Rousseau's team heard them the same night they crashed) but also to generate bad luck to anyone who didn't have the self-belief to ignore them (hence why bad luck only befalls Hurley until he resolves to stop believing in the curse).
Jonnyboy Animates I just finished the entire series before they took it off Netflix and for the most part, you're right. It's a good show, season 4 being the weakest. Sun and Kate were the only two who had legit reasons for returning back to the island. Everyone else's reason for returning back, really made no sense.
Sparkz Mentalz I agree with you on the Sun and Kate part, but I disagree with season 4 being the weakest. It had some of the best episodes in the show, like The Constant.
Jonnyboy Animates What I dislike about season 4 was how they kept splitting up for the freighter nonsense, Claire's disappearance, and the whole Finding Nemo hunt for Jacob's cabin. Desmond's amnesia, not remembering who Sayid is, was kind of ridiculous and soap opera-ish imo, though I did enjoy the Christmas phone call to Penny plot in The Constant. Mike's return was pretty lackluster. And why kill off Ana Lucia so early, just to have her replaced by Isabella who dies a in a silly way like Artz? I also enjoyed the Jack/Jacob debate about faith vs science in The Orchid in Season 4.
The best show ever that went nowhere! This is what happens when writers have a good pitch but don’t think it through and just decide to "go with the flow"
From the philosophical perspective, we all, as well as all our stories, end up in nowhere, and for the most part, "go with the flow". In this regard life cycle of a story is similar to the one of a person. What happens after the story ends, and how it ends, depends on what you believe in. Now, like itnor not, but Lost had a very obvious biblical and christian connotations since the very beginning, therefore - it went to the white light. Sopranos, on the opposite, had none of that, and ended up according to it's main hero's beliefs. This does make quite a lot of sense. That being said, If you believe you could do a better job than Lost writers, you are always welcome to write and direct a better show.
I believe Damon Lindelof said in an interview that the creators wanted to end the show after like 2-3 seasons but it was so popular and successful that abc extended it anyway.
@@toshivibe yeah good try, just read a little about the story of the show and you’ll see why it really went nowhere. the sudden success meant the writers had to milk the story for as long as they could. Lost had a brilliant start and concept but it got (hehe) lost along the way. You don’t have to be a michelin star cook to know when the meat is rotten.
@@vlino87 And even with the hiccups along the way, the writers created memorable characters and a lore that ultimately makes sense with a little digging. Not everything was absolutely answered and some episodes were bad (Expose and Stranger in a Strange Land) but this show still left a mark in history as one of the best tv shows of all time. It doesn’t help that people completely misinterpret the ending though.
@spid3rpunch Hurley didn't get stranded for a couple of years. From season 1 to the end of season 4 he and the Oceanic Six was on the Island for 3 months.
As someone who started this show when like season 4 or 5 was being aired weekly, I knew what it was from the jump. A nowhere story that was going to be entertaining for a while. I made it to like season 3 but I knew half way through season 2 that this story was just not gonna go anywhere. It was fun to watch, for a time. But I’m not a moron. The story telling just didn’t have any kind of direction. It was just… let’s see where we can go with the next episode type thing
@Larry Talbot Actually you did. If you liked the 1st two seasons, Season 3 is a must-see. Season 4 is optional (starts to wobble a bit on the stretch, but still fun). Don’t go farther though - you should always leave a party while you’re still having a good time. Just my opinion of course
@Will Muny You are correct. I was just saying you haven’t *really* gotten the Lost experience if you haven’t seen Season 3. Plus, S3 E10, Tricia Tanaka is Dead, is one of the great “feel-good”episodes of TV history, the kind television *used* to be capable of. And who can ever forget the ending of S3 E14, Exposé?
I loved Lost as a kid. But I just remember Jack shouting "WE HAVE TO GO BACK", at the end of season 3 (?), and the obsession was lost, since the main arc was to get off the island. I kept up with it a bit, but lost interest in season 4 or 5. Might go back now with fresh eyes.
My husband and I are watching it for the first time in 2024 and have the same reaction you expressed here. We were completely into it until they had to go back to the island and it got so convoluted and crazy, we just didn't even care why they felt they had to go back to an island they desperately couldn't wait to leave.
I was ready to jump at this. I only saw a couple of episodes of Lost. My first thoughts watching this clip were: Why is he fat? They must not have been on the island very long.
If i remember correct he actually startet to lose weight in the beginning when they had to rely on snacks from the crashed plane and fruits from the island. Later on when they discover the abandoned infrastructure and food conserves of the Dharma initiative he falls back into old habits.
@@SerthysSorry, physiology doesn't really match. In just 2 months of those conditions he would have lost like 50 pounds. Ok not 50, but at the very least 30. Abrams served up in this overwrought and overplayed modern melodrama that caused me to founder on the smorgasbord. It could have and should have been so much better, which (again) is characteristic of Bad Robot.
@@SarahB1863 they weren’t all dead the whole time though…look at the last scene with christian and jack in the final episode.
@@stantheman9072 the show runners were damon lindelof and carlton cuse. JJ abrams co created the show with damon and jeffrey lieber. he wrote and directed the pilot and the premiere of season 3 with damon. he didn’t have much involvement with the show beyond that despite being an executive director. he was busy with his other show alias at the time which is why he didn’t have a whole lot of involvement with the show.
@SarahB1863 It still amazes me that they had a character explain explicitly what had been going on in the last few moments of the finale, and yet people STILL think they were dead the whole time.
That's not what happened
Best television experience possible in my opinion.
Yep, lost & X files,
@@cbrboy76 You should try fringe and dark.
@@minners71Yes,Dark it is😅
That music… that suspense… that mystery feeling… never had that once again after LOST. It is so sad that no one could achieve that again.
Try to watch the German series "Dark"😅
The name of the show really explains the feeling of watching each episode
Hurley was like one of the best characters on the entire show, dude.
i watched Lost like 10 years ago or even more and it felt like I'm watching a thousand episodes and it was so weird & loooong but I couldn't stop watching and the end got me like "wtf is happening"
Well said Lost is one of my very favorites as well.
you just saved me half a series thanks :)
A perfect example of what happens when you want to create mystery without an end goal in mind
Fron what I remember they had end goal in mind from season 1. People just didn't get it or like it.
@@michwoz not quite. They networks wanted to extend the series because of how successful season 1 was. Originally it had a 2 or 3 season plot planned out
@@YouDaMANRAJ Maybe it run time was extended but finale was planned from beginning.
Typical Jar Jar "Mystery Box Bullshit" Abrams.
I love this scene so much
Its not the people on the plane who are lost in that island... its the people who watch this show who are really L0ST
Well, you just saved me having to buy a box-set :D
Recently got my mom into the show and this is exactly how I tried to explain it to her and that’s the exact look she gave me 😂🤦🏽♂️
Lost is one of my favourite tv shows EVER. Even this segment gives me the chills. So enjoyable.
Basically sums up everything the fans who watched the whole show know as well.
I wish I had watched this video instead of the whole series, and saved a lot of my time life.
You cut this clip too short. The best part of it is when his mother tells him she doesn't understand what he just said, but she believes him. The love expressed in that moment is part of what made Lost work. It certainly wasn't the plot cuz there really wasn't one they were just making it up as they went along, but the connections between people felt organic and real and honest. They weren't of course. It was just acting. LOST is one big magic trick that messes with your head but we put up with all the crap for moments like this when the show really felt magical and special.
Thanks for confirming what I thought - I gave that show a season and a half then get bored.. you can get that magic in shows that aren't a complete waste of time..
yeah sounds pretty trash
i have seen the show 3/4 times now and hurley is still my favorite guy xD
Hugo, we need an updated summary for seasons 5 and 6 now!
Hello from October 2024! I rewatched the show for the second time and now I understand and feel it much more than when I watched it for the first time (which happened 6 years ago)
Lost is just great ❤️❤️❤️
@gusbacon Because that was "Lost up to that point"
It takes another four seconds for Hurley to say, "Then I take over for Jacob and we all come together after death."
I am forever LOST but the scenery, the soundtrack and all the sleepless nights trying to make sense of it were worth it.
"well...I was never really clear on that" takes me out every time 😂😂😂
Don't tell me what i can't do
Recently binge watched Lost as it came out on netflix.. Honestly it's actually an incredible show.
Blahhh
This makes it sound like such a crazy story. Well, it is a crazy story, an amazing ride!
I remain thoroughly lost, but the scenery was worth it.
My first time watching the show, I started in season 4 and it was all over the place. 12 years later, I rewatched from the beginning, thinking that it would make more sense.
Yeah that wasn't the case lol
GOD DAMMIT i miss this show.
I wish every series just started out like this so we’d be spared endless hours of tv
There is a daily show on tv, it's called The News.
This is what it's like explaining a dream
Lost, the abridged version
Almost done with season 1. Don't know if I want to continue watching any more seasons after hearing all of that crazy shit, lol.
Sparkz Mentalz you should. It is a great show, and you should finish until the end
Sparkz Mentalz The thing I love about lost is the characters, sure the mysteries are cool and all but at the end not to much is explained
Hurley is like a screenwriter explaining his new idea for a TV series.
JJ Abrams at his finest/worst
@@vlino87 And even with the hiccups along the way, the writers created memorable characters and a lore that ultimately makes sense with a little digging. Not everything was absolutely answered and some episodes were bad (Expose and Stranger in a Strange Land) but this show still left a mark in history as one of the best tv shows of all time. It doesn’t help that people completely misinterpret the ending though.

I'm still lost
Jacks father explained it in the church. Some died on the island and then others died off the island. Everyone you see in the church had died
It’s 15 years later and I’m sobbing here :(
I only watched this show up to the end of season 2 & I have the feeling,
I didn't really miss anything.
@@creigcoogan5363I've definitely forgotten it
I loved Lost as a kid.
The biggest mistery is how he hadn't lost a pound
I was ready to jump at this. I only saw a couple of episodes of Lost. My first thoughts watching this clip were: Why is he fat? They must not have been on the island very long.
@@jamesonm.7925 Same, i lasted 4 episodes 😂
😂 wooow
If i remember correct he actually startet to lose weight in the beginning when they had to rely on snacks from the crashed plane and fruits from the island.
Later on when they discover the abandoned infrastructure and food conserves of the Dharma initiative he falls back into old habits.
@@SerthysSorry, physiology doesn't really match. In just 2 months of those conditions he would have lost like 50 pounds. Ok not 50, but at the very least 30.

For me lost was all about different types of characters especially because their lives before and after werr also shown to the viewer so you could kind of know why characters had the developments that they had or the change after the plane crash.
This show had the potential to be an amazing one, from the moment they started putting an "invisible" monster on the island it all went down

One of my most favorite shows until they aired the last episode. I feel like someone kept lying and robbed me for 8 years. Even during mid season the producers where asked the question is everybody dead? They denied and said NO. This is the biggest lie besides 9/11. Seriously they made us watch the whole show based on people who were already dead?
Wow, seriously? How much more clear could it be that they were NOT DEAD THE WHOLE TIME?
Are you actually fucking kidding me? They weren't dead the whole time. How did you watch the last episode, where they literally tell you they weren't dead the whole time and come to that conclusion?
FZmustacheFZ you are telling me they survived a plane crash where the plane exploded and ripped in two pieces
Kill Bill
It didn't explode when they were in it but when it ripped in two pieces, yeah, many of them survived and that much has always been clear. Do you know nothing about the show? There's a reason they survived the plane crash.
What reason was that? Theres no reason, no smog, nothing, it as thier souls that thought they survived
thx was thinking of watching the whole show again but this is also fine
There is one thing that no one will take from Lost. It was the first popular tv show that was shared and watched online and not through traditional television or cinema, albeit, it was televised but people were piracing it a lot in the internet era. I liked the tv show and it took several seasons till we realised the show is going nowhere and scriptwriters are totally lost without having a clue how to end this.
They really just made that show up as they went along. I got so invested in it for nothing.
This is the only show that is so hard to explain that’s it’s much easier to just start from episode 1.
it is actually true however vague it is!

Best show ever. Watched it several times and love it each time a little more. Everything makes perfect sense.
You're crazy. Its not really a rewatchable show.
From what I understood the button was connected to an unstable rift from an experiment of the dharma initiative. So to keep the rift from reaching a critical point, you had to discharge it every 108 minutes. Otherwise it would just engulf everything? I know they used it to move the island, which in and of itself is weird. So it would be an unstable pocket of tachyon particles?
Since he played Rubeus Hagrid on the Harry Potter series i became a huge fan of this guy
