Great review. I appreciate that you provided the intended, as designed use as well as then civilian alternative use cases. More than once you see a piece of surplus gear reviewed and many times the reviewer says "don't know what that is"... Kudos for the completeness and accuracy!
Fyi, the hydration carrier you have shown is not the ilbe hydration carrier. The ilbe hydration carrier is nothing more than a green and black sleeve with straps. The one you have is the tactical hydration carrier, introduced after the ilbe
My top only has four buckled straps too. The center 5th strap on the ones with 5 didn't have a buckle. It was a more permanent triglide connector and made it difficult to completely remove the top. Those ones also had molle on the underside of the top. The center buckle you grabbed in the vid attaches to the center strap that goes over the opening as a top compression strap. I think the 4 strap tops are better as you can pull them all the way off and use them as a makeshift pillow or butt pad.
I recently picked up the MOLLE 2 ruck and this is so much more comfortable than the pack I had back in Boy Scouts. I saw the cost of civilian stuff and I had to go milsurp. I agree I like the sleeping compartment too it sure beats having to strap it on to the outside of the pack or bury it in the bottom.
Yes I have taken it out a couple of times and it is super comfortable. I have played with the Molle and the Molle 2 packs that the army is using. However, I wasn't a fan of the big plastic backboard style frame. Kind of uncomfortable in my opinion, though I like the separate sleeping bag compartment.
The waist is that large in order to accommodate the other gear they are wearing. When you think about all of the gear on their LBE, the larger hip belt size makes sense.
I got 2 of these packs a while back and my wife uses the small hip belt, but she has the med / lrg hip belt. would you wanna trade the small belt for the bigger one?/
I already bought the bigger one that I need, But I still have the smaller one. I paid $30 shipped when I bought the bigger one. How about $20 shipped for the small one?
realgman1 Good point. I used soldier as a generic term for a military person. I wasn't trying to differentiate between a marine and an army soldier. It is a marine pack of course.
That removable lid can be used as an over-the-shoulder haver sack or as a very small back back.
My pack has a divider in the main compartment. Excellent vid.
Scout Tactical, I am a new subscriber. This is the most informative video on this pack I have ever seen. Great job
Hey welcome to the channel and thanks for the positive feedback. Hope you enjoy the videos.

Cool pack, cool vid, there's a shelf inside to split the load if needed

Great review!!
I purchased mine. Waiting to arrive. Great review
ILBE pack rocks but ditch that patrol pack a 5.11 rush 24 snaps in perfectly.
U got a really good deal. I paid $80.00 for main pack only. Which is still not bad.
Hey, you still have that small waist belt? I cant find one anywhere and i need one for my wife
Good review, it is a great pack. Although they do not breathe very well. But for the price, terrific buy.

Nice review, have you loaded it up and taken it out yet? What are your thoughts on the MOLLE large rucksack?
Is there a pack that can take 120lbs that weights less than this and still be bearable?
Scout Did you get this New for $80.00 or used excellent ?
Noble Wolf it was used but in great shape. The day pack that goes with it wasn't in very good shape though
The main flaw of this pack is that all the versatility comes at the expense of extra weight. The main pack by itself is 8lbs.
You keep saying "soldier." Is this not the USMC's pack?
