This is Flula Borg, in one of his first off the cuff logical analysis of an American idiom. Flula actually is from Germany, was working day jobs and learning to improve his techno D.J. music by night. He recorded ALL of these "Idiom analysis videos" for fun, and is a typically logical German thinker. Most of our sayings, or idioms do NOT make sense. Flula is now quite the celebrity appearing all over the internet, and on Late Night talk shows like Conan O'Brien. He even took Conan to Germany! The guy earned his fame! Watch and laugh.

I showed this to a couple of German people and they didn't see the humor. An an American, I am in tears.
Well, you can't really eat barrel-shot cake if you don't throw it in a barrel and shoot it first, then you'd just have totally rordinary non-barrel-shot cake, which I guess is fine for some people, but not for everyone, and it's the same with fish...
