No reason to not use firefly or glowworm bait, it's so easy to obtain. It's sad because it makes all the other bait and fish you turn into bait useless. Fireflies are from bulrush/briars, Glow worms are from flint at NIGHT, pop a weak proficiency potion (1 air mote+1soul mote+1 water {lvl 20 engineering}) and harvest for like 5 minutes and you will have more bait than you know what to do with.
Yeah totally agree but sometimes when I am out fishing a hotspot and getting green/blues non stop I don't wanna break into my xp grind to grab some bait that will only net me more greens and blues. As I said in the video use bait if you can but don't worry if you don't have it as the focus is to keep the xp/min/hour rolling so taking anytime out from that, if you run out of bait, will drop that xp gain down as long as you are fishing in hotspots. I mostly fish in fresh water and usually just grab some firefly running in between the spots! I didn't think to use a proficiency potion while gathering them though that's a great idea thank you!
@@Wozzmatic Yeah the first time I harvested a bulrush with a proficiency potion and collect 6 fireflies at once I sold all my lower tier bait. Your totally right about just getting to a hotspot and fishing non stop for the best xp per minute but the fact that most freshwater fishing your standing next to or in a ton of bulrush already. I'd argue that the extra XP you are getting from more consistently catching greens/blues using the highest tier bait makes up for the 1 minute of gathering bulrush for fireflies(not hyperbole either literally can get 30+ fireflies from about 10 bulrush plants with the boosters). Plus you don't catch shoes anymore and up your treasure chest rates.
I have never caught anything like that in a hotspot only in normal water. I did test catching firefly in between hotspots in transit and the timesink ate into the xp too much. But I didn’t use the proficiency pots and if your numbers are accurate then I would agree it’s definitely worth doing. I’ll pin your comment so hopefully others can see it too. Thanks for sharing bud.
Proficiency boosters don’t affect bait drop rate. The description says increase yield of materials gathered with tools. You don’t use tools to pick up Flint or bulrush

Great Guide I watched it like 5 times last night digesting it all while I ran around doing my fishing quests. Im on catch a treasure chest. Theres a couple things I didnt hear you mention that I was wondering. You didnt mention anything about water depth? It seems the deeper the water the faster the bite happens? Do you know if water depth affects fish quality or size as well? Also It seems from NWDB that hotspots open up at certain levels. This might be worth mentioning. LOVED the video mate keep it up. MrKoontz :P
Thanks mate so glad you enjoyed it - enough to watch five times as well 😂 Not sure about the depth to be honest I have heard varying reports on this being better for higher rated fish and/or larger fish. The hotspots are where they are though and I don’t fish anywhere but on them so what I get is what I get in terms of depth. When I was doing large salmon quests I aimed for deeper water outside of hotspots but it didn’t seem to make any metrical difference (although I didn’t actually log any data on this so might be worth a look). Honestly though I’d suggest hotspots or nothing. If you press K - go to trade skills tab and then left click on where it says Fishing it will show you what you unlock at each level. Thanks for such positive feedback buddy it really does make all the work in gathering info worth it when I know it’s being appreciated and is helping others. Next up - Witcher 3 Poison Healing Build no? 😂 See you soon. Might be defending a corruption invasion tonight so if I get picked I’ll stream it.
Hey @Terry Koontz, What I've researched, depth only matters when not fishing in a Hot Spot. Depth usually goes hand in hand with distance of the cast, so the better the Rod the better the Distance you can achieve which in return means better depth. The further the Cast, better depth, faster bite. But I wouldn't focus on that. You get better quality fish, better items and very quick bites from Hot Spots. You should focus on those, much like @Wozzmatic had described in the video. I hope that helps!
Not quite accurate. Depth and distance affect different things. Depth dictates how long it takes to get a bite - shallow, less fish, takes longer, other way around for deep. Distance affects tension. The further away the longer it takes for tension to build up, which can make it faster overall to reel in, since you don't need to pause as often.
You missed some (very) important facts. For example, the longer your cast distance - the more tension you have. So always throw maximum distance (+-) and if the hotspot is too close to you, just walk backwards until u can max your range. Makes it a LOT easier to catch legendaries :)
So in my videos I only ever present the facts as I find them and I never watch others content on a subject I plan to make a video on, very consciously, as I want to make my work original and not a regurgitation of someone else’s findings. Whilst I am not saying this is either true or untrue I have never failed to catch a legendary and usually stand pretty close to the hotspot. If this is indeed a fact I didn’t “miss” it because I didn’t find any evidence to support it. Moreover we tested this theory on stream two nights ago as someone said this and whilst standing as close to a secret hotspot as I could get I, coincidentally landed two legendaries in two casts. This may be true but I found no evidence to support it so that’s why it’s not in the video. Same goes for the purported depth/fish quality factors I have heard mention.
@@Wozzmatic Awesome to hear! Original videos are always better than copy paste stuff! About the tension - it is remarkable if you reel in - and pause to recover - if you make a max throw you will see how it recovers faster / the fish wont decrease your progress as much as it would have with a minimum throw. Maybe its just remarkable if you didnt got focus boni on tension + rod. Im not saying its a fact, I just tried it and it seemed to work as stated. Maybe im wrong, who knows :p Wish you a great day! d:
@@dealerion5358 Hey bud thanks for coming back to me. I think there must be something in it as lots of people say this AND why have cast distance bonuses on fishing rods of it does nothing right? There are some hotspots where this is impossible though. I think the focus bonus I have plus the line tension bonus on my fishing rods maybe made it easier for me than others. I still need to push on through to 200 as well sitting at around 148 at the moment I think but ran out of room to store anymore fish fillets 😂
I don’t think so. I certainly didn’t find any evidence to support that and the fishing quest chain starts in Winsward and carries through to areas with level 63+ mobs so I think just the stats matter tbh.
Well I am presenting the facts as they unfolded for me and measured bait for larger fish and xp gained against bait for better fish and xp gained. The latter netted a greater xp/hour than the former. There are so many variables that can affect this though which is why I have been specific in showing my gear and fishing locations. For me, the xp gained in the methods in the video far surpassed that of fishing for larger fish both in, and out, of hotspots.
Oh blimey I will do my best thank you. Fishing was about the most subtley nuanced gathering profession which is why I dropped the time into it. I’ll definitely look at others I have most over 100 now I tjink. Thank you for the kind comment. 😊
I wasn’t very clear in the video sorry. I meant that there are two different types of legendary - one you can salvage for furniture and one you can use for cooking. Sorry I appreciate it wasn’t very clear the way I said it.
Thank you mate I really do appreciate all the comments as there is always something I will miss. I found out after making this video there is a legendary furnishing recipe you can get via fishing too. I am now chasing that one down. Happy fishing!
Does anybody know who to combine all the legendary fish for the house item? I have all of the fish you need. Thanks in advance if someone knows the answer.
Hiya - This is news to me. I have caught some Legendary fish which you just salvage to turn into an item for the house. It might be that? I have 5 of them hung on my wall in the house
@@Wozzmatic there are 5 distinct Legendary fish that you can catch and you combine them for what's called "the ultimate fishing trophy" there are a couple of ones like you said, when you decon them you get a trophy fro ur place but them are not the 5 I'm talking about. @@thegingergrasshopper3908 Well I didn’t know that thank you for the info. I’ll look into it and see if I can work it out. My first guess would be perhaps it’s a furnishing skill unlock? I’ll check when I get online
Awesome thank you I appreciate it. Just so you know though I caught an Aquaranja in the stream in Windsward both in live and beta. Awesome info though mate thanks I now have a new project to research. I don’t suppose you know the name of the household item do you?
Ok so did some Googling and apparently the trophy recipe appears in your furnishing recipe list once you have salvaged the fish into “artifacts” which are basically the wall mounted fish you get after salvaging. That’s what I just read anyway hopefully it’s correct.
You can see the two spots in Windsward and First Light at level 49. The others you have to “discover” by physically going to them. If you still can’t see them, you’re not high enough level.
didnt mention dying to return to town. fish a 3star, die, return to town, run to next 3star, die, town, 2star etc. if you really want to minmax. what about the repair bill you ask, do you want to be a 200 fishing chad or not?!
It’s totally understandable. I think as you level your fishing up and/or only fish in hotspots you catch far fewer than when you start out. It’s not a huge amount but every little helps I guess 😂
Yeah the in game economy right now doesn't make a huge deal of sense! The deflation is massive and gold is the most valuable resource so people won't spend it readily - driving down prices on most items!
Fishing blows, the only thing you get in decent numbers is filets. All the other things you can get come in such minimal numbers that they cannot be counted on for anything as far as pushing your skill levels up. Fishing is literally the most useless skill in the game.
Well I’m not sure I agree but the beauty of games like this is it caters for all tastes. If it’s not fishing for you there are plenty of other professions to choose from. Personally I enjoyed the fishing quest line and the rewards the fishing netted. Especially for stone cutting I gathered more tier 5 gems through fishing than I did through mining. Granted it’s a bit rubbish at lower levels but once you get past around level 60 fishing and certainly beyond level 140 you start to see a real return for your effort. It’s just a pain getting to that point.
@@Wozzmatic I don't disagree with you that it's fun. I actually really enjoy fishing. However I'm irritated that they made it mostly useless besides food crafting. I think there should be more to it.
Well forgive me if you already know this but you can get a decent farm of life motes for Arcana, there is a decent income of higher level gems and there are also the legendary fish quests for the house trophy. Also if you salvage all your green and blue fish you get crafting mods and tonnes of arcana crafting ingredients like jaws, teeth, guts etc. I’d say the major two resources would be for cooking and arcana

Great video! thank you so much for this :)
You're so welcome! I hope it was helpful. Thank you for taking the time to let me know it really does give me a lift knowing its helped :)
Do you salvage all fish?
I do yes as I am levelling Arcana with the salvaged items. You can keep some whole for cooking though
Maybe im wrong, who knows :p
Wish you a great day!
Does Gear score on your fishing gear matter?
I don’t think so. I certainly didn’t find any evidence to support that and the fishing quest chain starts in Winsward and carries through to areas with level 63+ mobs so I think just the stats matter tbh.
i like more baits for larger fish i dont see a lot diference in rarity and im getting big ones so
Well I am presenting the facts as they unfolded for me and measured bait for larger fish and xp gained against bait for better fish and xp gained. The latter netted a greater xp/hour than the former. There are so many variables that can affect this though which is why I have been specific in showing my gear and fishing locations. For me, the xp gained in the methods in the video far surpassed that of fishing for larger fish both in, and out, of hotspots.
Great video! Also the peacocking score is the score for your houses decorations
Awesome thank you. A few other people enlightened me but appreciate you taking the time to comment. Hope you are still enjoying the game
I'd like to see you cover each crafting and tool skill doing a great job
Oh blimey I will do my best thank you. Fishing was about the most subtley nuanced gathering profession which is why I dropped the time into it. I’ll definitely look at others I have most over 100 now I tjink. Thank you for the kind comment. 😊
I caught a different legendary than the 2 he mentioned. Dont recall the name, but it was white with big teeth, in fresh water.
I wasn’t very clear in the video sorry. I meant that there are two different types of legendary - one you can salvage for furniture and one you can use for cooking. Sorry I appreciate it wasn’t very clear the way I said it.
@@Wozzmatic No worries. Good guide. Thanks for the info.
Edit: now that I'm thinking about it I wonder if you decon them and then combine whatever they decon into
@@thegingergrasshopper3908 Well I didn’t know that thank you for the info. I’ll look into it and see if I can work it out. I know there is one legendary at least I have missed that a company mate has found. I’ll update here if I can work it out but if you find out in the meantime please let us know? My first guess would be perhaps it’s a furnishing skill unlock? I’ll check when I get online
Awesome thank you I appreciate it. Just so you know though I caught an Aquaranja in the stream in Windsward both in live and beta. Awesome info though mate thanks I now have a new project to research. I don’t suppose you know the name of the household item do you?
Ok so did some Googling and apparently the trophy recipe appears in your furnishing recipe list once you have salvaged the fish into “artifacts” which are basically the wall mounted fish you get after salvaging. That’s what I just read anyway hopefully it’s correct.
now u say for lving but u have to lv to even discover them like im 49 and i cant see any of the spot hes showed
You can see the two spots in Windsward and First Light at level 49. The others you have to “discover” by physically going to them. If you still can’t see them, you’re not high enough level.
@@Wozzmatic ill take a look today ty
I just wish that chests were still something to be happy about. No more coin, and the ingots are basically worthless on my server.
Just wanna point out you can easily catch legendary fish with basic rod i caught my first 2 that way
Absolutely true I did too. You just get a higher likelihood with improved rod!
Thank you!
It’s my pleasure.
ah yes, back then when the chest still gave coins.. good times
😂😂 Typical they patch that out the day after I record this 😂😂
They patched this???? Whattt
@@happin9129 seems so not had any gold for a while now. Makes no sense the game needs more gold flow not less
Peacock score is supposed to say furniture score
@@killmaster46 Ah that makes sense. Yeah we did think it may be the score you see in the housing decorating UI. Thanks for clarifying!
didnt mention dying to return to town. fish a 3star, die, return to town, run to next 3star, die, town, 2star etc. if you really want to minmax.
what about the repair bill you ask, do you want to be a 200 fishing chad or not?!
If that's what works for you its all good. I don't know what a "chad" is though so not sure I can attest as to whether its something I would desire :D
Sad that they nerfed treasure chest
They did? What did they do I missed that. My loot seems to be fairly consistent still.
@@Wozzmatic You don't get gold from them anymore, opened 30 and nothing
Oh really. Well that sucks ☹️
Thanks for letting me know I didn’t even notice I wasn’t getting gold. Must be in the last few days they did it.
@@TheBlueNovaStudios why they did nerf it lol. they should buff…
U can't get hide also
Yes you can. You can catch boots that salvage into hide 👍🏻
@@Wozzmatic wow ur right that one slipped my mind!
It’s totally understandable. I think as you level your fishing up and/or only fish in hotspots you catch far fewer than when you start out. It’s not a huge amount but every little helps I guess 😂
Still so sad you can't get gold from treasure chests anymore. that was the worst nerf
I miss getting gold from it
Oh man me too. Thank the fishing bots for that one :(
It's kinda sad that I have to gain money from fish fillet and oil, my fish dont sell, its too expensive for them :3
Yeah the in game economy right now doesn't make a huge deal of sense!
