Water is h2o, hydrogen is h so it;s a different molecule. Hydrogen can't be stored efficiency. It's a very light molecule that escapes the container its stored in. You will lose 5% per day in industrial storage tanks, a car is even worse. But you can make hydrogen from water. But its inefficient proces with electrolysis, so it requires electricity. Hydrogen itself is also not that energie dens compared to normal gasoline, (around 1/7th). Also it burns only 10% during compression making the mileage 30 times worse than gasoline.

I don’t believe Toyota is that stupid to go for Hydrogen ICE. We have Hydrogen FCV since 2 decades now but they didn’t catch up. Then Why in the world will Hydrogen ICE work?

Switching from ice gasoline to ice hydrogen wouldn't be much of a change. All we really need is hydrogen cars and refueling infrastructure and the dollars to make it happen.

A fuel cell needs a lot of exotic materials like platinum to work which makes it very expensive. A fuel cell is also very sensitive to contamination and would be spoiled if impure Hydrogen is used.
A HICE on the other hand is cheap. It’s literally the same 100+ year old with a few different parts which will cost the same at mass production scale. It will also be very resilient to contamination.
A see two issues with HICE:
      1. NOx emissions: Nitrogen comes to the engine with air, which has 78% Nitrogen. During the combustion, the conditions will be just right to make NOx. To be clear, the NOx emissions wouldn’t be worse than a petrol or diesel engine. But HICE will never be zero emissions.
      2. Hydrogen has very less density. It will take a 20-30 times the storage volume to have the same range as petrol or diesel. Nobody knows how to solve this problem.
