  • This track was made from preprogramed sequences I made triggered and arranged live. #dawlessjam #livemusic #digitakt #rolandSH4d
You can listen to more of my music here on Sound Cloud:
    / gregory-smith-654279921
Drums: LXR-02 playing 1 pattern programed on the unit patched into the Digitakt ll. Digitakt II playing 6 tracks and triggering 3 tracks on the SP-404 MK II. The Digitakt is routed to the input of the SP-404 MK II so all the drums can be manipulated by the SP's FX. One additional drum track programed on the SH-4D.
Bass: Erica synths Bassline into Grand Canyon Delay. 1 track from the Digitakt II.
Keys: 4 tracks programed on the SH-4D. 1 track programed with Stepic triggering the Deep Mind 12. 1 track programed with Stepic triggering 1 instance of Pigments VST. Small live melody played on the Digitone keypad. Last but not least Soma Labs Lyra 8 played live.
FXs: 3 FXs chains. 1st FX chain is Chase Bliss Generation loss MK II into Meris LVX into Meris Mercury X. 2nd FXs chain is Chase Bliss Mood MK II (Bypassed the whole time) into the Zen Delay. 3rd FXs chain is simply the Hologram Microcosm.
All routed into the SSL Big Six mixer. On the master insert I have the RNC compressor then into 2 mono Empress para EQs ( janky I know but it's an affordable alternative to expensive outboard EQ and sounds great!). Lastly I use the master bus compressor on the Big Six and record the main out into Studio One Pro. Lightly mastered in Studio One and sent to DaVinci Resolve for Video sync.
    Equipment list:
Digitakt, Digitone, SP-404, SH-4d, DeepMind 12, Chase Bliss Generation Loss, Chase Bliss Mood MK 2, Meris Mercury. I'm currently on my third day with my Japanese in laws. Getting my A.s Kicked but eating the best food. I'm shooting some beautiful video and making some melodic beds to build on when I get back to Osaka. New Video of it all to come real soon.

Wow what a nice atmosphere in your music. Would love to hear more of it. Also it was nice of you to share some of your background in your other video. I'm currently also learning to play my live improv setup and having a blast exploring the possibilities of modern electronic music gear.

It really is so much fun. I stopped thinking like an engineer and started to look at my gear as one big instrument. This new perspective has opened my eyes to a whole new world. Thanks for the support and comments and best of luck on your journey!

More is on the way. I have a new video out later today. More full live rig sessions are to come next week. Right now I'm having a crash course in Japanese at my Japanese in laws in rural Japan. Once I get back home to my gear I plan on getting busy. Thanks for the comment.

Recent fan here. Your studio is impressive. You mentioned playing gigs in Osaka. I think you will want to look to streamline. My partner is still traumatized from me dragging 2 full suitcases of gear and a 7 kilo ball of tangled cables around the world when I started. Now my setup consists of 5 machines. (I only mention it because you said you would like comments on what we think). I think simplifying would be a good exercise, musically as well. Keep it up, sounds great 💥💥💥💥

Thanks for the advice. I'm so new to this and am already learning that lesson. The past few days have been an eye opener. I am currently lightening the load and rethinking this setup. As I write this I just removed another piece. Now I ditched the two erica synths devices the LXR and Bassline and the microcosm and grand canyon delay. However I did add a 1010black box to fill in that whole and also allow me to loop live easily. I also had an issue with playing the digitone live as I kept steeling voices from my sequences so thats a no go. I added a memotron module that is dedicated to keys. Has that old nostalgic sound I'm after and compliments the highly digital sound of the digitone. In the end I only scaled down by two pieces and as I progress and master these machines more I'm sure I will get more comfortable using less. I really appriciate the comment. That's the kind of advice I need right now.

What a chill vibe! I love how you introduce the lyra, is it playin all along the jam? These sounds are very resfreshing and smooth, I really like around 11 min! Keep rocking buddy and thanks for the shout out

Thanks fo the comment and listening! The Lyra is only playing while I tweek it otherwise I turn the volume down. It's a hard instrument to incorporate since it doesn't like to play well with others but I love the way it roars when you push the feedback on the delay. Mainly I use it for accents and transitions in this piece. You are inspiring me to produce more frequently and push myself into uncomfortable territory. I was happy and shocked at how this one turned out.

Really awesome. I just wonder how can you handle so much gear at the same time. For example how do you save a song? I can`t imagine saving a patch for each hardware separate? Or basically when you start a song you have to finish and record it the same day as a full mix? Or how do you built up your song or sounds in general? I am having already issues just remembering all settings of one piece of hardware 😆

    • @SoulSearchingGaijin
      @SoulSearchingGaijin  3 месяца назад

I will be the first to admit that it's a bit tricky. I have all my patterns saved on each device. I do my best to have the two elektron units having the same bank and pattern numbers and try to do the same with the Bassline and LXR units. My two Fx's chains are almost always the same settings just a choice wether to have any particular FX in each chain bypassed or not. I run the LXR into the inputs of the digitakt and send both into the sp404 which I mainly use as a performance FX unit. Any samples on the sp404 are static and don't change location. I have selected and loaded samples for transitions and one shot vocals that i can trigger manually as needed. These are the same for all my jams. It's muscle memory on the sp404. I build tracks with sequences I make before hand and what you are watching is me performing/arranging/FX them live. Every time I play a track it's unique so I record the main mix while performing it. The idea was to treat the studio like an instrument in totality and improvise the tracks. The purpose is to build my chops so I can do this live with a simpler setup. In the end I'm not concerned as much with the Final Mix Im more into getting something that flows naturally and performing on instinct. I do keep detailed notes and copy and paste patterns around to have things line up on each device. I'm also know the gear well. That helps a lot.

@@SoulSearchingGaijin Thanks a lot for your inside. I am basically trying to do the same and basically trying to performing live. I feel like its the only way to get the song done for me. Pretty often though I am messing something up, even with less then half the hardware you have😄. But I guess that needs a lot of practice. Thanks again :)

@@j.s.8933 To be honest I'm getting my A..s Kicked today trying to transfer and sync samples from my computer to the digitakt. Not sure if it's a glitch but I just took a break after a factory reset and going to try again. It's a long road to mastering the gear for sure. I have a long road ahead. Best of luck with yours.

I love Ambient music or anything that has an emotional impact. I listen to all styles and make many different types of music myself. Right now I'm trying to find a happy medium between what I normally create and what will go over well live. I plan on several different live sets. For now I focused on beat driven/Smooth/lush sounding tracks. I hope this helps my influences are all over the place. In the end if it moves me emotionally I love it.
