Ya know, typically, I do these deep-dive character arc videos about characters that I really like or relate to in some way, but I don't think I've done one yet about a character that, to me, is just completely detestable, to the sort of degree where even what little bit of his backstory could potentially resonate with my own experiences is dwarfed by how much of a reprehensible prick they are. And wouldn't you know it, part of rewatching Yu-Gi-Oh GX again lately for the Zane Truesdale video I recently did also meant being reminded of the absolute scumbag that is Adrian Gecko (aka Amon Garam in the original Japanese version), so hey, why not just do a deep-dive on an absolute grade-A jerk today?
Voiced in the English Dub by Darren Dunstan, and by Nobuya Mine in Japanese, Adrian Gecko joined the cast of Yu-Gi-Oh GX in Season 3, along with several other new transfer students (Jesse Anderson, Axel Brodie, and Jim "Crocodile" Cook), but unlike the others, Adrian was ultimately only out for himself, and wasn't shy about using others for his own gain with little regard for their well-being. And I thought it'd be interesting to take a look at how, in the pursuit of those selfish desires, he ultimately brought about his own demise.
So, as a bit of a breather from my ongoing Pokémon Violet Let's Play (which I started after recording the narration for this but before starting the visual editing), let's dive into the character arc of one of the scummiest characters in the Yu-Gi-Oh universe, as I take a look at Adrian Gecko!
