Awesome as always! It's great seeing how you do rigging too. I'm a bit new to zBrush, and I was wondering if the feathers you applied are all seperate meshes (as a polygroup) or if they're displacements you made yourself?
Thought I'd reply just in case 3dEx misses this one. The feathers are separate meshes, specifically an insert mesh brush. You can tell that it is a separate mesh because of times like 7:34 when the underlying surface is hidden and the feathers remain, and you can tell it is an insert mesh brush because at times like 7:37 you can see the insert mesh options at the top of the screen. You could also create a variety of feathers and create an insert multi mesh brush to be able to quickly switch between different feathers for some more variation. These could have also been done as Vector Displacement Maps to achieve a similar although less flexible result. Have a good one!

Quick question, I noticed as you were modeling the feet, it was making it parallel. Like how when you made the claw on one toe, the other foot made the nail as well without you having to model both. What setting is that?
It's a setting called "symmetry" and from what I can tell he set it to "world x". You can also set it to different modes including "object" but then the mesh has to be connected somehow. Depends what you're going for ;)

How do you decide when to add new geometry and when to just add it to the base? For example how did you decide to make the wing from a new shape rather than from the body?
The wing could have been made from the body. I made it separately because I wanted to simplify the rig animation process and having things separate makes it easier. It's also a stylized model so having it separate didn't affect the look much.

What’s the benefit of starting the sculpt in maya instead of just starting out in a rush? Is it easier to keep track of the topology? Also, what is being done the second time in maya?
The final low poly was made in Maya. So there was no need to retopo after Zbrush. That's why I decided to start in Maya, but it could have been done in Zbrush as well.
Please tell how do you do your coloring like this! I am a begginer, I just learned about Hippershade but this looks so much better!

Nope, you don't need uvs to work in Zbrush. The high poly doesn't need uvs only the final low poly model

I didn't understand how did you bake normal map from Zbrush before unwrap the UV of the low poly model in Maya...
I made uvs in Maya before Substance Painter. I baked the maps there using the Zbrush model as the high poly bake.

How do you separate parts of the mesh in zbrush?
You can mask and split unmasked parts (look under subtool>split) there’s a couple of ways to do it

1.i have a potato pc 3 gb ram , 2.80ghz intel proces....32 bits sooo am i able to run this software.
2 . the things we r mking in this can be supported in unity or unreal engeine like blender
I was able to run Maya, Zbrush on a potato laptop years ago, but unreal would not run very well. I recommend you get free trial versions of the software just to see if they will work on your computer. You can also download unity, unreal and Blender for free as well to see if they work on it.

I have a question. Why did you start switching to low poly model around 2:34?
The smoothed out version is just a preview. He is really just working with the "low poly" you referred to in a smoothed preview. If I'm right you can get that preview by pressing 3 on the keyboard.

@@ScepticalG4mer Hello, about the smooth preview when do you actually use it , is it the same as the "mesh display > soften edge" ? I really want to know how or when to use it as I've never used it, all I ever do is model>UV > soft/harden edge then start texturing. pls help .
@@jericorapatan5665 The smoothed preview is just there as a placeholder as it won't carry over to your final product. This way you won't have to smooth your model and can stay low poly during your modelling process. It just shows how the model would look like if you would've pressed smooth.

Edit: To answer your question; use it during modelling to get an idea of how your smooth mesh would look like.

como se llevó las plumas al substance ?
Para eso hay que importar el low poly en substance, y ahí haces un bake usando el high poly de zbrush, entonces los detalles del high se quedan en el low poly (con mapa de normales y demás, o sea que no consumen poligonos).
En el minuto 10:03 aprox. lo hace, aunque en el vídeo se ve super rápido xD en algunos de sus vídeos se ve un poco mejor

Sorry i'm newbie. Why you started basic pigeon in Maya? I thought better in zbrush first for making body pigeon, then Maya for the necklace and anklet. CMIIW
You can start however you want or are confortable with. I made it in Maya because I didn't want to have to retopologize later.

For stylized things its definitely still hand crafted, and smaller studios will always be using older methods
