Personally, I don't think a good Thunderbirds movie is out of the question, it's just a case of how to keep it so all the brothers, Jeff, and Lady Penelope get equal focus instead of it being mostly based on Alan.
I don't think that the movie was terrible, i saw it again yesterday like after 15 years and i found the acting pretty average, not the best obviously but the performance isn't bad. And the plot was cool too, the music is what makes me love it more tho.
It’s an entertaining film, but it’s pretty bland aside from some honestly pretty decent effects and cinematography around the effects, the acting by the big names IE bill Paxton and Ben Kingsley is genuinely amazing, along with a score by Hans Zimmer and directing by Johnathon Frakes it’s a film that is entertaining at best but that’s as far as I can say

The production design and effects have held up surprisingly well, and Hans Zimmer's soundtrack is just too good. A straightforward action film with all the teenage-coming-of-age narrative tropes, but a disaster movie doesn't scream 'originality' to me either.
Why call it a "guilty pleasure" when it can just be a pleasure? It can't possibly be as "corny" or "questionable" as you're making it out to be. And imagine talking about a Thunderbirds movie just to say that making it "a disaster movie doesn't scream 'originality'" to you, when International Rescue essentially responds to disaster movie scenarios for a living. It's almost like it doesn't matter what screams 'originality' to you, because that's what the source material established. I don't go into a Thunderbirds film and not expect something resembling a disaster movie. That's like going to see a Mission: Impossible movie and complaining that a heist plot doesn't scream 'originality' to you. You just don't do that.
One thing I love about this intro (apart from the animation and exquisite music) is how it portrays International Rescue thwarting the Hood each time he starts a disaster somewhere.

One of my favorite movies from chlidhood. When you were watching it as a child you didn't care about the trashy acting or the bad plot. You were just enjoying it. And even now I enjoy it. But you can admit that the machines were made incredibly good. I wish they would make another movie
This film was one of my favourites and I also remember going to see it when it came out. This intro was my second best but the original theme tune was just the best.
@@archington1851 no, ignorant executives thought that we kids of the day, needed child actors to find the film accessible and relatable. We all hated it
... Sophia Myles's Lady Penelope was one of the films successes. She definitely deserves her own 007 style spin off. Why talk about a female Bond when we have Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward!
I liked it as a kid too. But as an adult, I've come to see it having many flaws. The special effects and the craft designs were great, but the story and acting were awful.
@@netherfreakultima4498 I love Thunderbirds too, but I don't feel this movie does enough justice for the characters. International Rescue is a team, and yet, only one member of that team is given major spotlight in this movie.
The problem with this version of the theme is it got stuck. It began the build-up, and fair enough dwelt on the build-up, but then just kept repeating it without letting the theme develop or go anywhere. Maybe it was because it was an origins story so the theme reflected that?
While the movie needed better writing.. I still love it to bits. This opening with the beautiful stylized animations and modernized theme are incredible!! AND it's by Hanz Zimmer!
TFW you realize Jonathan Frakes directed one of your favorite childhood films, Hans Zimmer did the score, and all that plus nostalgia still couldn’t save it.
The opening titles were the best part of this film. For all the acting ability of the Tracey brothers they might as well have just used the original puppets from the TV series. At least they wouldn't have looked so wooden.
Watched the whole original series on METV about a year ago, and the movie for the first time a few hours ago, but my DVD glitched out on the opening, so thanks for posting it! Man REALLY mixed feelings about this film. The first half was pure cringe, watching elements of the show haphazardly crammed into a mold designed to cash in on Spy Kids...but somewhere after the halfway mark, I got into it without realizing it. Could have been a lot worse. So maybe Jerry and Sylvia Anderson's respective and opposite assessments of the bomb based on their most famous work were both accurate. Even this opening just looked cheap the first time I saw it, but on rewatch looks slick and gets across exactly what it needs to.
@@mikesilva3868 It was better of course, but this film was still great in my opinion. I went to see it in the cinema when I was 10, so it holds lots of nostalgia
For all it's flaws this movie has one of the most creative and visually interesting openings I've seen to this day. They really don't do a lot of creative shit like this in the industry anymore
I loved this film... When I was 5, now I find it difficult to watch for more than 10 minutes. I admit I like the intro a lot more than the actual film (was the only part I put on loop during the film), CGI was good, the redesigns kinda worked :P then again it made them look rather alien in nature.
+Calvin Hobbes I'm afraid this video is the only place I've happened upon it thus far! Believe it might be in the official album or perhaps on Spotify or similar?
I think one of the big issues many have with the film was the idea that Thunderbirds in reality had become a British icon and thus a rarely seen star status on the same level that James Bond or Doctor who would inhabit, and the film chose to incorporate that fact, where International Rescue are a widely known about and revered organisation, as opposed to the original series where they made sure to ensure secrecy, whilst the thunderbirds were no secret, no one would be tuning into the news to watch the latest rescue. By all accounts Johnathon Frakes is a fantastic director, but given the script he had to work with, it wasn’t going to be easy, plus the cast feels like it’s stuck in it’s time, I can’t tell any of the Tracey Brothers apart, aside from the Obvious Alan and John but that’s only because he gets scenes away from them and has platinum blonde hair, but this is at odds by having Ben Kingsley and Bill Paxton in the cast, two heavy hitters and yet they didn’t think to try and get some more established actors for the Tracey brothers, I’m a fan of getting unknowns, but the Unknowns usually have to have the talent behind them and something to do, something which they don’t get either of. The film looks visually great but it doesn’t do enough to carry it, I remember in the behind the scenes every change they made to the thunderbirds themselves from design to launch sequences (one of the most important aspects) wasn’t done for the sake of it, but adding the layer of realism to it, weather or not that works is a more debatable opinion, but it’s hard to argue with the passion behind the choice.
Growing up as a fan of Thunderbirds, I saw this film in the cinema back when it came out (it's the one film I've seen in the cinema three times), and took it for what it was. But years later I started to see just how wasted an opportunity it was with all that was wrong with it. As for what I think of it? For a start, I don't like how they're referred to by the public and themselves as 'The Thunderbirds' when that's only the name of the main vehicles and the name of the organisation is International Rescue (only the intro refers to them by the latter apart from the IR badges we see). The film should've also been primarily about the whole Tracy family, yet instead prioritises Alan, Tin-Tin and Fermat. John has a bit of a personal chat with Jeff, but that's it. He, Scott, Virgil and Gordon are just background characters who are never key to the plot at all. And it doesn't help that none of them even look like the characters they're based on (apart from John), making it hard at times to tell who's who. It's not like Alan, Tin-Tin and Fermat are even deserving of being at the forefront of the plot. Alan's a self-entitled, unlikable whiner who never learns from any of his faults. Sure, he could get jealous of his brothers doing more than him at a time or two in the series, but it didn't get the point of him being insufferable. Fermat is just a waste of space. I wasn't exactly into Brains' portrayal, but even I can see that he never needed a child in this, let alone one that's more prominent than him. And Tin-Tin didn't need to be portrayed as some cutesy teenage girl, or prioritised over any of the Tracy family when she was always a side character in the series that served enough of a purpose as such. This lineup of main characters does nothing but make the film feel more like a Spy Kids film, and doesn't help when Thunderbirds gets categorised merely as children's content when it could be made to also appeal to adults just as much as any Marvel or DC film. Look how dominant those are in this day and age as a result of how seriously the source material was eventually taken. Why couldn't the same be done here with Thunderbirds? Talking of which, the plot of the film not only makes it feel more like a Spy Kids film with the main characters, their portrayals and the film's overall tone, but also like a Home Alone film as well when a big chunk of the film is just Alan, Tin-Tin and Fermat running from and repelling The Hood's goons via light-hearted, tedious slapstick buffoonery on Tracy Island, with Lady Penelope and Parker later joining the fray and not making it much better. Early on in the film we see more of what it should've been when Jeff, Scott, Virgil and Gordon are rescuing oil rig workers in a genuinely thrilling scene, but after they're all home, the film decides to stop being faithful to its source material and just does whatever it wants by doing all that I mentioned above. All of this is disappointing, because there are positives to the film as well. The Thunderbirds themselves, the gadgetry and rescues look great in live action, especially when combined with Ramin Djawadi and Hans Zimmer's music (their rendition of the Thunderbirds theme alone is very well done and Barry Gray would've been proud). Bill Paxton, Sophia Myles, Ron Cook and Ben Kingsley do a good job as Jeff, Penelope, Parker and The Hood respectively, even if the performances by their puppet counterparts are superior. I also like the little details showing such as Tracy Island's antenna when that was shown in one episode (I think) in the series, and the use of Parker's nickname and Brains' surname when they weren't used very often in the original either. So, right there you can see that the makers could've done better. I also like the nods to the original series. The Hood using his powers to make Brains walk like his puppet counterpart and saying "Like a puppet on a string!" and a close-up shot of Alan's hand with strings coming from it (a reversal of when in the show close-ups of body parts doing something subtle were from real humans) was kind of funny. And Busted's 'Thunderbirds Are Go' song is a load of fun. It's just very telling that it was the only truly commercially successful thing from the film. I just wish that more serious effort and respect was given to this live-action film, in which case better could've been done to justify its existence and made it a welcome addition to the franchise. Gerry Anderson initially got the idea for Thunderbirds when learning about a collapsing mine that required an elaborate rescue. Why couldn't they have had _that_ in the film, with International Rescue saving the day? And why couldn't they have had the surviving original voice actors in cameo roles (considering how much they voiced various other characters other than the main ones anyway)? And those are just two ideas of many that could've done so much better. But hey ho - you can't have everything, I guess.
IMHO, I hope the MCU gets this aspect of the X-Men right, they are kinda like IR (International Rescue) for the Marvel Universe. The Blackbird is their Thunderbird 2, and their specialised powers give them that same feeling of all the rescuer devices the Thunderbirds use. I'm sure that I'm not the only one to think of the possibility.
He was a original Thunderbirds fan Jonathan Fakes, unfortunately for him the tech in the early 2000s was crap, haven't heard his thoughts on our good old kiwi remake tb2015
The film may look nice if one is not old enough to have seen the original show back when it was aired (in Italy it was aired in the early 1970s, almost a decade after its original release in the United Kingdom).

I'm new to Thunderbirds and when I first saw this movie I loved it, but I saw the 2015 series and was upset about how the movie , thought the soundtrack is great
One of my favorite movies from chlidhood. When you were watching it as a child you didn't care about the trashy acting or the bad plot. You were just enjoying it. And even now I enjoy it. But you can admit that the machines were made incredibly good. I wish they would make another movie
Its unwatchable 😊
This film was one of my favourites and I also remember going to see it when it came out. This intro was my second best but the original theme tune was just the best.
In all honesty, the music and the redesigned ships were the only good things about this fillm
Don’t lie the film is great
@@archington1851 no, ignorant executives thought that we kids of the day, needed child actors to find the film accessible and relatable. We all hated it
... Sophia Myles's Lady Penelope was one of the films successes. She definitely deserves her own 007 style spin off. Why talk about a female Bond when we have Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward!
Don't talk shit she was one of the worse in the film

This film brings back childhood memories :3
This movie is definitely in my top 10 favourite childhood movies. They cooked with the opening🔥🔥🔥
A film I waited half my life for that could have been so much more. I love Jonathan Frakes of course but what a miss this was.
I can’t believe how much the original Thunderbirds were wasted. Stuck in space for the whole film
The best part of the movie was the intro and the worst parts are Thunderbird 5 getting hit and The Hood taking over Tracy Island.
Man...this film was one of my faves when I was younger ^^
Ahhh, nostalgia...
I liked it as a kid too. But as an adult, I've come to see it having many flaws. The special effects and the craft designs were great, but the story and acting were awful.
@@wikiuser92 true...but I still love it anyway
@@netherfreakultima4498 That's perfectly fine. You do you. It's just good that you recognize the flaws too.
@@wikiuser92 flaws yes...but for me, it's mostly being a fan of Thunderbirds that has me loving the film and the series
@@netherfreakultima4498 I love Thunderbirds too, but I don't feel this movie does enough justice for the characters. International Rescue is a team, and yet, only one member of that team is given major spotlight in this movie.
I’m definitely going as Lady Penelope for the Pretty in Pink pageant next year
This is the best scene in the film which is kind of sad when you think about it, but great music and titles.
Gerry Anderson wasn't even mentioned in this. No wonder he hated the movie.
This intro looks better than any other films in this day and age to say this was nearly 20 years ago
Only good about this movie 😊
@@mikesilva3868 still better then Dragonball evolution
TFW you realize Jonathan Frakes directed one of your favorite childhood films, Hans Zimmer did the score, and all that plus nostalgia still couldn’t save it.
i love this film it was my childhood i still watch it today ^^ it's awesome!
I have also seen Ben Kingsley as Mr Fagin from the 2005 Oliver Twist. I did first see him as the Hood from this film.
Going from.the re-runs on Citv to this...was amazing
Then the actual film..
Even with this movie's problems, this intro is really cool actually
There are two good things about this film. Ben Kingsley’s acting and the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer.
I thought the redesigned Thunderbirds looked good too. But the story and the characters really ruined the overall experience.
This 3 minute segment is better than the rest of the film.
Haven't anyone noticed how similar these 200x live action movies are
This movie WAS my childhood. I felt its critical reception was unfairly misjudged.
Can't believe riker from star trek directed this film I fucking loved this film as a kid
I say This Movie Thunderbirds would definitely premiere on NBC one of these nights.
Man, Fiona Weir did a lot of casting back than. She cast this, and all the Harry Potter films.
Sophia myles and ron cook was a good partnership as lady Penelope and parker think thats one of a few things i like about this movie
At least they kept the them. I hate it when live action version of films have a completely different and unfitting theme.
This really is a Nostalgia blast oh the memories
Oh the nostalgia
This movie is severely underrated and needs more love
The intro has always been my favourite part of the movie, just, kinda weird seeing Penelope being seemingly on vacation.
0:23 the intro actually starts.

Here I am proving that the name International Rescue was brought up in this movie to one of my friends who said the name was never said in this film.
Judy Carne: Ello, ello, ello, this is it, folks. If we don't have a commercial now, we'll have to pass a ruddy hat.😅
Don't care what the critics say, this movie was awesome!
Oh come on the original 60s tv show was better 🤶🎅
@@mikesilva3868 It was better of course, but this film was still great in my opinion. I went to see it in the cinema when I was 10, so it holds lots of nostalgia
For all it's flaws this movie has one of the most creative and visually interesting openings I've seen to this day. They really don't do a lot of creative shit like this in the industry anymore
Jonathan Frakes had a sit down on one of the Star Trek podcasts recently, and he has expressed a bit of shame with how the film came out.
I loved this film... When I was 5, now I find it difficult to watch for more than 10 minutes. I admit I like the intro a lot more than the actual film (was the only part I put on loop during the film), CGI was good, the redesigns kinda worked :P then again it made them look rather alien in nature.
That makes two of us... I find this film to be just another generic Spy kids film. Only they just slapped thunderbirds on the title.
Gerry Anderson disowned this in no uncertain terms. That's why he wasn't credited in the opening.
If they made a live action movie with the same kind of love and attention as the new Thunderbird Are Go series; it would be a grand slam
0:57 This Music Is Funky. Thanks Mate. X
Fantastic video, Molto bene! Keep up the great work. -Allons-y! RIP Bill Paxton
The only part of this movie i like is the intro (i havent seen the 1960s movie) i also like the animation for the intro
This was the only time we heard “international rescue” from then on it was always thunderbirds this and thunderbirds that
I like the remix of the Thunderbirds theme tune used here. Where can I find it?
+Calvin Hobbes I'm afraid this video is the only place I've happened upon it thus far! Believe it might be in the official album or perhaps on Spotify or similar?
Calvin Hobbes Spotify Hans Zimmer thunderbirds are go
these titles were the only good thing about the film
+Randy39761 True
love the music it's so good
The odd thing is that even though the movie bombed (and took Frakes's career with it), a lot of it is in the new series.
The opening animation looks like something in lilo and stitch and from weird al yancovic party in the cia
The Thunderbirds themselves, the gadgetry and rescues look great in live action, especially when combined with Ramin Djawadi
and Hans Zimmer's music (their rendition of the Thunderbirds theme alone is very well done and Barry Gray would've been proud).
A+ analysis. Couldn't have put it better myself.
Also, TinTin and her family are meant to be Malaysian, not Indian-American.
Thunderbird 6 is the best thunderbirds movie. The one in 1967 or so is also good
Not to sound rude, but I think all RUclips videos are banned in North Korea.
My favourite movie ❤❤

Does anyone know where I could watch the 60s tv show? From what I’ve seen it looks pretty cool.
He was a original Thunderbirds fan Jonathan Fakes, unfortunately for him the tech in the early 2000s was crap, haven't heard his thoughts on our good old kiwi remake tb2015
They did so much wrong. Alan in TB4 instead of TB3. Virgil as the dad. The Hood on the island. But the soundtrack kicks ass.
Virgil as the dad? WHAT!?
Actually, Jeff was still the father.
great film love it
The film may look nice if one is not old enough to have seen the original show back when it was aired (in Italy it was aired in the early 1970s, almost a decade after its original release in the United Kingdom).
