- Hello friends!
I'm super excited to finally be sharing a post review on my biggest, most complex project to date: "Magical Merry Go Round" from the artist Josephine Wall and the company Diamond Painting Deutschland. Their kits are unique in that they have a LOT of colors - in this case, 220 colors on a 100 x 75cm canvas. I have SO many thoughts to share and I'm very anxious to hear your thoughts, as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this project and am even thinking of doing another in the not-so-far future!

Can't lie, I am not ready for 200+ colors! I love this, it's really beautiful. You have to be proud of finishing it!
Thank you! I'm so glad to have it finished, too! :)
Honestly this canvas makes me speechless. It truly is amazing to see the amount of work that went into it. Congrats on finishing it, you deserve all the accolades you are receiving. This is quite an achievement!!
Thank you so much, Rhonda! That's incredibly kind and sweet of you to say and really made my day. I really enjoyed working on a project of this scope and it was so rewarding to see it come together 💛
Congratulations, Katie ! Excellent job!
I'm pretty sure the name at the bottom is a mistake DPD made. It shoudl have been removed before printing (the Josephine W that Lisette is doing doesn't have the name)
I would ask DPD if they could send you the rendering of the name with proper symbols superimposed in order you can replace them
Thank you so much, Susana! That's a really fantastic idea, I might have to reach out to them and ask. I noticed that Lisette's doesn't have it, and some of the other kits don't either.
First, congratulations on finishing this! It looks like a massive undertaking and the end result is beautiful!
Second, thank you for your honest review. I love Josephine Wall’s artwork but hate doing square drills so I had been looking into other companies that license and offer rounds. You saved me a ton of money! Looking at the rendering, cost, shipping, and glue type really helped me realize I wouldn’t have very much fun working on it and wouldn’t love the rendered results.
Thank you for all of your videos, I love watching them! I can’t wait to see what you start working on next
Aww, thank you so much, Chelsea! I'm really glad that this was so helpful for you and helped you make a decision about whether or not to purchase one for yourself. For what it's worth, they do offer a number of Josephine Wall kits (not this one, unfortunately) in round drills, but that doesn't change their rendering style, cost, or glue. I just wanted to let you know! But there are lots of lovely companies out there, and if you have your heart set on a JWall, you could take a look at the charts from Heaven and Earth Designs.
Regarding the copyright of Josephine Wall on the pictures. We got the acceptance from the Artists to delete the Name from the pictures in the future. And regarding the symbols, we got a brand new huge plotter of the next generation and the print will be much better. Regarding the question more or less colours. We think more colours are really better to have and see more details. Yes, the size is important, but if you have two the same picturs with 40-50 colours or more than 150, you can see the difference. The pictures from Josephine are really made for professional Painters with experiance and are looking for work a project for a longer time. And please let us know, if you will made another picture from us again. I really enjoy your video.
Hi Gilbert! Thank you so much for commenting and for the insight and information about your company. I really, really enjoyed working on this kit from DPD, and I'm definitely planning to try another Josephine Wall kit in the near future. It was such a unique and special experience! I actually emailed you directly to ask if there are specific kits you'd recommend ordering, that use the new plotter you mentioned. I'd love to see the difference!
Thank you again!
This is BREATHTAKING! I admire the author of this diamond art masterpiece! Bravo, clap, clap! Very inspirational!
I think it turned out very pretty, more color the better. Congrats on your finish!!
Wow!!! Great job finishing.🥳🥳🥳🥳
I have recently purchased this kit, won't be starting it for a while and have to say, I'm very nervous, never ever done a kit with this many colours, so good to see your work ❤️🥰
It does look beautiful. Thanks for your comprehensive review.
Thank you for watching!
They are improving the symbols and the copyright is also in work to be removed. It was a condition by the management. But DPD solved this problem. But the quality is one of the best. The drills, the print and the way it´s been shipped. Also the stickers are such a blessing.
I only order by them and I have about 4 JW paintings in my stash and some other own productions. Maybe try a newer work like "Three Graces, Diana, Pheonix, or maybe Starship" :)
To answer a few questions:
The company has no place for poured glue.
She is tweaking the rendering and works hours and hours on the best result.
More colors gives more depth and it´s also fun and something special. Not every company does that. DPD also cut down colors from 325 to 250.
You could cut that legend and keep it by the area you paint. I use it as a backup. I put DSA on it and place some drills on it.
The next ship arrives mid March and has some drillsets so the paintings can be printed again and packaged.
They print the canvas in their place and if they are out of drillsets, they have wait for them to arrive and then those beautiful paintings can be printet, packed and shipped again.
Also if you are interessted, maybe join their FB Group.
Thank you for the insight, Nadine! I really appreciate it :) I'm definitely curious to try another kit from DPD, and I actually reached out to Gilbert directly to ask about their new printing machine and which kit he would recommend trying. I really enjoyed how unique and special an experience this kit was!
Thank you for the suggestion to join the FB group - I joined both the larger DPD (German) group as well as the English group. I love seeing the kits that others are working on!
Thank you again for the feedback and insight!
@@DiamondsandWashi I visited them back in december and filmed the whole experience. The video is in german but you still can get a good insight. Their FB group is called diamond painting deutschland blumex. People share their jw aswell as other selmade production (???) Or however thosr are called.
Very amazing paintings.
@@nadine5731 Ooh, how interesting!! I’ll definitely go check out your video, that would be fascinating to see! Thank you!

Absolutely amazing I can’t say how much I have enjoyed watching someone work on this artists work I love her I’m a massive fan! I love how it turned out but I’m a bit like u I think some of the lines would look better more defined but I love a lot of the rendering in this piece! I would love this in poured glue... I’m a total DP snob and will never work on a DSA again it’s too much trouble for me personally... thanks for sharing
I totally hear you, Rachel! I really would love to see these in poured glue too, it would save a lot of headache. Thank you for watching and following along!
I just got my kit from them the other day. I'm not going to open it yet because I already have two projects going and I'm in the process of setting up an office/craft room. Your completed canvas looks beautiful, and I agree with some of the points you made.
For a lot of Josephine Wall art, there are so many small details that diamond painting rendering just can't capture, unless the canvas is HUGE. Some areas I think could have had more detail in the rendering (e.g. the carousel and the second pegasus/unicorn from the top). I also think the transition of colors in the sky could have been blended better. I didn't even realize there is a little girl on the first unicorn at the top until I saw the original artwork. The copyright in the bottom is an eyesore. I really hope it's not on all of the Josephine Wall kits they have.
Overall though, it's really gorgeous and I loved following your progress throughout. Have you ever thought about trying Heaven and Earth Designs printed canvases?
Thank you so much for watching and for your thoughts, Gabrielle! I completely agree with what you've shared about the blending, and the need for a large canvas to see the details. I really hope they get rid of the copyright at the bottom.
I'm actually planning to try one of HAED's pre-printed canvases, AND hopefully one of their blank canvases, sometime this year! I know they carry Josephine Wall so I'll have to see what they have! Have you ever worked on one?
@@DiamondsandWashi I joined Diamond Painting Deutschland's Facebook group and it looks like not all of the Josephine Wall canvases have the copyright watermark. Not sure why that is..
I have two HAED printed canvases and currently working on one of them now. I'm enjoying it so far and I hope they expand their (already large) selection in the future!
@@gabriellepacker7921 I was on HAED site the other day. Can you advise where the printed canvases are
@@deborahaltunel2903 They are under "Crown Jewel Canvases" at the top of the page.
New to DP here. How would you even begin to begin something like this??? Do you have beginners???? ♥️. I understand your issues with this beautiful piece. Before purchasing my first piece, I hear that there are several considerations. I am in the process of watching your other videos as I have not invested in anything yet. I hesitate to invest yet. But I am very intrigued. I am a scrapbooker. I am widowed & live by myself in a 3100 sq ft home. So I have the room. I really don’t like her name across the bottom left. I have not heard are round drills better than square drills??? So I am in the beginning of the beginning. I do love Josephine Wall’s art & I have lots of sketch books & journals of hers. Your work is absolutely gorgeous!!! I am very impressed.
Amazing Video and great result. I love your voice! Many, many thanks.
Thank you so much for you thoughts! I really appreciate your honesty!
You're more than welcome! I hope it was helpful :)
I absolutely love it!! I, too, would find this a fascinating challenge! The number of colors may intimidate me in the kitting up process, but once I get a handle on that, I have the patience and don't mind confetti at all. Especially Jo Wall, she's my favorite artist... Love her style! Thank you so thank you Katie 😊💙
So beautiful. I'm only on my first strip of my DPD. I'm doing Bubble Tree by Josephine Wall. It is so different to work on. Seeing one completed gives me hope.
Ooh, I love Bubble Tree! I'm excited to hear what you think and see how it turns out. Thanks for watching, friend!
Yay 😁 Katie! Congratulations 🎉 on the finish! Thank you for the big reveal! I know we were all waiting for your review. I love the look from a distance. I definitely agree about the name in the corner, it takes you away from the overall look. Either way it’s beautiful and you have tons of patience 😊
Yay! Thank you, Taryn! You've been following since I unboxed this kit, I think, so I hope this was really fun and rewarding for you like it was for me! Thank you for watching, as always
I think art should be look from far, like in a museum... good job 👍🏼! 💐
Thank you!
What an amazing finish, Katie!!! When you said “marathon and not a sprint” I’m like heck yeah!! Look at this thing!!👀 In terms of how many colours are needed.. I think yes, for a canvas like this and the original artwork it does make sense for 220 colours. But in terms of if I would do it? I think I could never 😂 I do like confetti in some areas but not a whole canvas especially on this grand level. Good on you for thinking of getting another kit similar to this one. It would be SO interesting to see how kitting up 270 colours looks like!
Thank you so much, Helen!! I mean, you could just do it in small sections and pretend like you're working on a confetti-heavy section of a more reasonable canvas 😂😂 But no, it's not for everyone, haha. I'm still debating on getting another! We'll see!
Hi Katie, so excited to see your postreview. Aren't you proud that you did it? YOU DID IT! I think that is so cool. You are the first one I've ever seen finishing one one these babies LOL...Thanks for your detailed post review. Loved watching your take on things. So fun to see someone who's actually having the same kind of experience, because this is a very unique project. I just discovered that the Sacré-coeur is also in the painting. WOW, I hadn't noticed that before. I love Paris. I totally agree with the quality of the drills - perfect - and although I prefer poured glue, I have no problems (so far) with their double sided adhesive (no rivers, excellent quality) but I have never tried to roll it up. So that helps. I lay it flat on my dinner table when I work on it and do hang it on hangers after that (yes - I have no dedicated crafting area either, and have (not so) little ones (7&9) running around so need to put it away...and also...it's our dinner table). I don't like the huge name in the bottom, but think it's impossible to replace yourself. And that legend...ha ha ha...why... I agree that you need to do other WIP's at the same time - as a breather and also to stay sane.... I personally think that this kind of rendering resembles the actual painting from Josephine very good. Just cherish the fact that you did this and admire it from a distance. Greetings from France, Lisette
Hi Lisette! I always love hearing from you, too! What a fascinating experience these projects are, aren't they? And you're brave to be working on yours with kids running around too, even if they are older than mine, haha! And I almost pointed out Sacre-couer but the name kept slipping my mind and all I was thinking was Montmartre but I knew that wasn't right. I've traveled to France and been to Paris a couple of times, so this piece really had a special place in my heart. I hope I can travel there again someday!
It's absolutely gorgeous, but I agree that the rendering or the excessive number of colours or both do it a little bit of a disservice. The smaller winged horses, the top of the carrousel, the water, and the lamps are SO sharp and detailed and pretty... but there are other sections that are just so muddy! The larger horses that should be clearer seem a lot more pixelated than I would have expected, same with the bars and the main body of the carrousel. The buildings are huge compared to other clearer components, yet they are also very hazy. Definitely food for thought when ordering my giant custom piece.
I loved living vicariously through you on this journey! If they ever have a kit that REALLY speaks to me, I think I’d be willing to give this type of project a try! I also agree about the water. The rendering in that section looks amazing!!! Congrats on this finish!!!!
Thank you friend! You know I'm going to try to enable you on this one ;)
Really loved hearing your thoughts about this painting and I really liked that you put up the original artwork a couple of times so I could compare it. I don't know if I'm going to like working on a painting this big and with so much color. I have golden valley from chuck Pinson and I'm corious if I'm going to like that size and the confetti of that one although that confetti is nothing compared to this 😅
I'm glad that this was so helpful for you! Golden Valley is a big one, and you'll definitely get a taste of confetti with that one! I'm so curious to hear if you like the size, and all the confetti, but I'm sure that it's going to come together beautifully.
Thanks for the video - very interesting. I've seen people order and unbox these paintings with all the colors but have never watched or seen a finished one. I think I would feel lost with that many colors and kitting them all up - I wouldn't even know where to start, seems overwhelming. It is beautiful, however I was expecting more detail for the amount of colors there are. I guess as you said in your video, maybe it's the rendering or maybe it's just me liking more defined lines. I'm undecided about this. I agree with you about the water rendering, it's so pretty. It is boggling that this huge dp is double-sided adhesive, especially when they have smaller poured glue ones. I wouldn't like the name at the bottom either. Thanks for sharing this in depth. You are a trooper undertaking this huge project and at your kitchen table no less!!
Thank you so much for watching, and for your kind words! It sounds like we're totally on the same page as far as impressions of this finished kit. It's definitely a bummer that it didn't turn out a little more clearly, but it was still such a fun project to work on :)
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I feel the painting is lovely but, needs some hand rendering not all computer rendering. I think it get muddy in spots, like the trees. I feel more colors are usually better but, too many makes a blurry image. Once you understand double sided adhesive it isn't too bad to work with. I definitely like the sticky on double sided much better than poured glue. My largest painting was 107x50. It was not solid confetti. Kudos to you for completing this one with your sanity intact!
Thank you so much for watching - and I really agree with what you shared! I wish I'd had a better understanding of how to work with double-sided adhesive before working on this kit, but at least I'll know for next time. And that was a large kit that you worked on!
@@DiamondsandWashi I did Christmas Morning by DAC. So it was poured glue and like I said, not solid confetti. I would like to try one of the DAC Josephine Wall's since they don't have as many colors, and more manageable sizes. Like you I have zero room for storage in between!
Omg ! It is beautiful. Can’t believe it. 220 colours! Your channel has such great content!
Thank you so much!!
It’s so pretty 🤩! I love it!
It’s a beautiful painting. I was actually thinking of ordering another Josephine wall and was told they had them licensed but honestly her name printed on the canvas and double sided tape are deal breakers for me. I had ordered a custom from a company before I knew about double sided tape of one of our Guinea pigs that had passed for my son for Christmas I never completed it for 2 reasons, it was only 30x30 cm and it was loaded with rivers from top to bottom diagonal . Also the printing of the symbols were hard to read the Guinea pig was entirely black and white with a pink nose and lips. The dark area the symbols weren’t printed in light colors , they were printed in dark. But the rivers and bubbles were the biggest problem was the rivers.
Love this video..Especially how you explained your joys and disappointments! I am going to get Soul of a Unicorn..which has 220 colors as well.. I hope I have more joy then disappointment. I will definitely do more research. I have ordered the relief papers, storage containers and have found some pants hangers.
I have emailed them..and thanks for letting us know they speak English. Congrats on completely that beautiful piece of art. Definitely an accomplishment!!! Will you do another?...😂👍
Thank you so much, friend! Ooh, I've been tempted by Soul of a Unicorn - you'll have to let me know what you think! It's a big undertaking, but so rewarding.
There's one piece in particular that should be back in stock this month, and if/when it is...I think I'm going to snag it, haha. I would totally do a project like this again!
From what I understand, the reason that the Josephine Wall canvases are double sided adhesive is that Diamond Painting Deutschland are creating the canvases there onsite in Germany. Due to the lack of copyright protection they cannot send to China for production. I know that some of the other kits from there are poured glue. I can't remember where I heard that information but that is what I remember.
I cant remember her name but Stone Cold Coffee Crafts on youtube said the same thing
@@DejahhJanaee Heike! Of course, it was her! Love her videos!
Oh how interesting! I hadn't even thought of that. Thank you for the insight!
WOAH!! Congrats on this absolutely gorgeous piece of art. Much respect to you!!
Thank you so much!
I'm still waiting for my very first kit to arrive, and I have to say.... this is AMAZING! Wow.
This is absolutely gorgeous!!!!! So I was looking at Sagittarius on the DAC website, it's 61 colours. I then checked out the website you got this piece from.....and it's 300 colours!!!! Ok so now I have no idea what to do.......the Deutschland piece is round drills! And I love round drills. Honestly seeing this done makes me want to take the leap!!! You did a gorgeous job!!!!!!
Ohhh my goodness, that's right! Several of the Zodiac pieces are 300+ colors - that seems super intimidating to me, but then again, it's really not that much of a stretch, haha. I say go for it, if it sounds fun to you! It's an amazing kind of project to work on.
@@DiamondsandWashi I would love a challenge to be sure! I have never worked on double sided adhesive before. Your review has me teetering between the good old DAC rendering and the giant 300 colour piece.....I have a lot of thinking to do about this. I wonder if a finished rendering of Sagittarius exists somewhere? Off to search the internet! Lol
Hi Lisa
not sure if you got your kit and where I've just finished fairy wedding which is also 300 colours and loved it and it actually done what I hopped it would and slowed me down as the last 100x80 I done I finished in 2weeks whether its alot of colours or not it's still just one drill at a time the only thing with 300 is alot of colour changes which is where working out of the bags helps imo
Oh it's just a beauty! I'm so proud of you! Please have her framed!
Thank you so much!
So beautiful!!! I am just now getting interested in Diamond Paintings. I assume I can find less complicated, more simple starter pieces???
Hi Alice! Welcome to the hobby, how fun! Definitely don't start with a kit this large and complex. I recommend checking out Diamond Art Club and taking a look at their beginner-friendly section.
I think more is definitely better when working with an original painting that is in the Seurat or impressionist style. I need a project like this in my life just to confirm to my husband and friends that I am totally bonkers.
I totally hear you! And yes you do, haha!
WOW!! You finished. I am very intrigued by this type of project. I would like to try one of these at some point. As far as the rendering goes....I don't know what I think. I like parts of it and others, not so much. Is it this image specifically or all of them...due to so many colors and the computer rendering.
I totally hear you, Mindy. I have very similar mixed feelings, and they change every time I go back and look at it. It was a fascinating project to try, for sure! I'd be so interested to see you work on one of these - you'll have to let me know if you decide to get one. Thanks, friend!
I’m working on her Spirit of Flight..100cm x60 cm.... it’s been a bit of a confetti filled nightmare..but it does look good!
I actually just ordered Spirit of Flight a couple of days ago! I'm glad to hear that yours is turning out well!
Thank you Katy. This has been very informative and many good tips. I’m still waiting for delivery of my kit. I’m sure it will be a few more weeks before arriving. I’m looking forward to its arrival.
I'm excited for you to get yours! Thank you for watching
Amazing work, Katie!! Have you ever calculated how much you spend per hour on a project, like $250 kit takes 250 hours to complete costs you $1/hr? Maybe that’s just how I justify larger crafting purchases 😁 Also, have you checked out the Josephine Wall’s on HAED/Crown Jewels? I’m much more familiar with the cross stitch world, but I know her designs are incredibly popular and well done there! Happy diamond painting
Ooh, you know, I never thought to justify it that way. I like your way of thinking! And I haven't had the chance to check out her work specifically on HAED/Crown Jewels, but that's actually next on my big "bucket list" to try this year! I haven't decided whether to try a blank canvas, or one of the preprinted ones, but I'm excited to dig into that. (And I might try to dip my toes into the cross stitching world sometime this year too!) Thank you for watching!
This canvas is beautiful, and such a challenge! Kudos to you for finishing this one. I am not a fan of double-sided adhesive, due to rivers and bubbles, and I think (I could be wrong) that the double-sided adhesive is a cheaper process than the poured glue. I just cannot wrap my head around 220 colors, lol.
Thank you so much for sharing this post review in such great detail. Love and hugs! xoxo 💜
Thank you so much, Laura! I really feel like I completely messed up the double-sided adhesive myself. I cringe when I look back at the unboxing. The 220 colors really was something else - a fun experiment, for sure! Thanks friend!!
This is gorgeous! I appreciate hearing all of your thoughts on this experience. I totally understand you being unhappy with having the name on the painting while also not wanting to try to fix it given the number of colors involved! The double sided adhesive aspect of this is part of what makes me hesitate. Back when I first started diamond painting, I ordered a bunch of DSA canvases from AliExpress and they were very hit or miss; some were perfect while others had massive bubbles spanning the canvas in multiple places, and I’m not sure how much of that was due to my handling of the canvas versus how it was packaged and the environmental factors. I’m also not sure if I have the patience for that amount of confetti; I’m doing my first Chuck Pinson next month, so maybe that will give me some insight into my tolerance level. I’ve really enjoyed coming along this journey with you!
I totally hear you, Jayme! It can be such a gamble with DSA, and I wish I knew how much the problems with this one were my fault. The unboxing makes me cringe now, I just whipped back the cover, oof. But yes!! A Chuck Pinson will be a really great way to see how you feel about confetti.
Thank you for being here! I'm so glad you are!!
Awesome job. Just wow.
Thank you!
I'm so glad I found your channel! Newish diamond painter here👋🏻! This kind of project is right up my crazytown alley! Just curious if you have tried Uniquely Yours Down Under before? They have licensing with Josephine Wall and quite a nice selection (with a poured glue option!... Although I believe the poured glue has less colors in it than the double sided adhesive option). Plus through May all her prints are 15% off! (I swear I'm not sponsored.lol). I too was looking at Diamond Painting Deutschland and I'm still considering it. But the shipping from Uniquely Yours to Canada was less than $18 CAD and had poured glue so I think that was my deciding factor. I got the Three Graces in the 90x120 size (😬) in square drills. I just purchased last night so I have no idea how many colors it is or how the charting is. I look forward to more of your projects!
Hi Jennifer!! Welcome! (Both to my channel, and to diamond painting - yay!) Ooh, funny you should mention Uniquely Yours... I just started a custom that I ordered from them, AND I have The Three Graces sitting, waiting to be unboxed!! How fun! I ended up getting mine in the 100-color version, so it does come on double-sided adhesive, but I was so curious to try it and sort of compare to a JoWall with 200+ colors like Magical Merry Go Round. I can't wait to hear what you think of your kit!
@@DiamondsandWashi Oh that's so exciting! Can't wait to follow along with that project! I actually ended up going back on the Uniquely Yours site (🙊) and purchasing Presence of Gaia in the 90x120 square but with the double sided adhesive because I really wanted the challenge of a 200+ color diamond painting which is what drew me to Diamond Painting Deutschland in the first place. I would still like to try them out too... I just gotta get over that shipping cost first. Haha. I'm looking forward to these Jo Wall comparisons!
I'm still shocked you did this, and that you want to do another 🤣 I feel like having a large amount of colors for the sake of having a lot of colors, can do a disservice. So happy to finally hear all of your thoughts. Great job, Katie!
Thank you, friend!! I know, I'm kind of out of my mind, but you already knew that well 🤣 I'm getting so stoked for your epic secret project!!
@@DiamondsandWashi me too. When you see a massive kitting down video on my channel, you'll know why 😂
Awesome!!! Love Josephine Wall!! She paints abstract not "clean lines" as per her style. Other kits of this size and # of colors may have "clean lines". This company does have a FB group!! Her husband is there everyday. I agree why NOT poured Glue??!! It is due to the time it takes to apply the glue the factories seem to not wantbto use the time and machine for the size canvases in poured glue. I do love doing these paintings have gone over 300 colors YIKES!! Not crazy any longer lol!! Thanks for the series of videos!!
You're a confetti champion for working on this lol, nice job! I'm really sad about the watermark, I've seen someone else do one of these as well and theirs also had a watermark. As an artist, I always watermark my work but if I were to sell a print or something I would remove the watermark layer. Them using a watermarked image makes it seem like it's stolen when it's not
Thanks, friend! Oh my gosh, you know, you're completely right. The watermark does make it look like it was just screenshot and lifted from the artist's website. That's a bummer.
Wow, you did it! It looks gorgeous! For the opinion about the number of colors, for me, I don't need that many colors. I am grateful to have heard about the company through you. I ordered the painting "Life and Death" by Jonna Hyttinen. This has "only" 65 colors.
But I am also a beginner, I finished my first square painting yesterday and my second painting ever. Maybe with more experience I see it differently again and then I want a picture with 200 colors, who knows.
Congrats on your first finish of a square kit, and your second finish ever! And welcome to this wonderful hobby :) I'll be so curious to hear your thoughts on your kit from them! And maybe someday you'll be wanting a kit with 200+ colors - I never thought would, and then I did, haha.
Thank you for watching!
Quite the project! Still thinking about that one I showed you. I might see if DAC is going to do it.
I love that one, Lori! Are you in DAC's new VIP Facebook group? They shared a post about their Josephine Wall kits earlier this evening.
@@DiamondsandWashi Yes, that’s what made me think I’ll wait.
It's beautiful, from a distance. I do not like the name on the bottom, that would drive me crazy. I do agree with what you said especially by the merry-go-round. I am really new to this, just started on my 4th one and its a big one lol Fuji Flora from DAC. So of course I watched your working on a big canvas video, it was super helpful! This one has 66 colors I think that's a lot, lol so I know I'm not ready for over 200 drills lol.
Oooh, I really love Fuji Flora!! Wow, I'm super impressed that you're tackling it for your fourth kit, but it's going to be absolutely amazing and you can totally do it! I'm so glad the tips for working on a big canvas video was helpful for you - let me know how it goes! 66 colors is a LOT, especially for a DAC. One drill at a time, you can do it!
Congratulations on your accomplishment!!! It turned out beautifully. Not the project for me, but you did a great job on it. It's so huge!!! 😷😎😷
Oh goodness, thank you so much!! It was a fascinating project, for sure, but definitely not everyone's cup of tea to work on!
I’m working on spirit of flight and I LOVE it! I’m experiencing some of the same issues like the symbol clarity (I have the same as you) and I messed up unpacking creating some rivers. WHY!! Why doublesided adhesive?!? BUT, I like the puzzle element of it. I’m nearly done and I look foward to my other dp’s and I’m missing it already😄. Sooo yesterday evening I ordered herbstwald with 180 colors🥰, not from JW , I think a break would be wise😂
I think spirit of flight is rendered better though. It almost looks like a draft version with her name on the canvas, I thought you put that there digitally😱😱. Did you contact the company? I think you’ll enjoy the other paintings😊 thank you for your review!
Hi Laura! I have been in contact with the company and they've made some changes to this canvas, including the name. I'm actually planning to buy Spirit of Flight when it comes back in stock! I saw it finished in a FB group, and it looks amazing - I'm so glad to hear that you're loving yours!!
@@DiamondsandWashi good news that they’ve changed it!👍🏻 I hope you can buy her soon, you’ll love it, all those beautiful colors...🤩
It is so true to the original painting!
I hope you will put this on a wall! So beautiful!
I wish I had the wall space for it! But I really enjoyed just the process of working on it. Thank you for watching, and for the kind words!
HOLY SMOKES!!! That is truly MAGNIFICENT!
It is quite stunning! The sheer massiveness of this project is most impressive.
I appreciated hearing your thoughts and experiences. I think that after all of the work, I personally would be extremely disappointed in the artist's name signature being included in the final rendering...especially if it was not disclosed in the listing.
As for the number of colors, I personally like to see 2 options. Similarly to how HAED does, a max color and a separate option for for a version with about half. Hmmm, I wonder if this finished piece's clarity would have benefited from fewer colors???
Overall, the finished piece does reflect the the truly magical-ness of the original artwork done by Josephine.
If DPing was an Olympic sport...you just made America proud by bringing home the gold medal!
After this project, all other kits are going to feel like a snack size!
Congratulations!
Aww, oh my goodness, thank you for the super kind words and for sharing your thoughts, Valerie! I'm so intrigued to see HAED's approach to these kits, and they're on my list to check out in the near future. Either as a blank canvas or one of their preprinted ones!
Thank you again!!
One question I was waiting to hear from you is are you going to frame and hang this project. Taking on a project of this magnitude for me would only be possible if it were a design I was in love with and that I would be able to hang and enjoy every day given the number of hours it takes to complete one like this. I agree about the name at the bottom, perhaps if that is something they would change at some point you could go back and replace those drills if they provided you with a copy of the new rendering. The Sien would be larger and more beautiful as it already is. This is an amazing project and enjoyed watching your progress.
Thank you so much, Nancy! Gosh, I hadn't even thought to mention about what I'd be doing with the finished kit. Honestly, I don't really have the space to hang a piece this large, and for me, the enjoyment in diamond painting is in the process more than the finished product. So I'm okay with not really ever hanging my finished projects, but that's just for me. Thank you again for following along with this big project with me!
I absolutely love this canvas. Your explanation of drills and difficulty was clear. I saw this once when I was surfing dp companies but now I cannot find it. Do you know of a source other than the one you posted to purchase this painting? I may not be exactly ready for it but I want to have it on hand for when I am. It is stunningly beautiful. Your camera captured just how beautiful it is. Thank you 🦋
Hi Jacquelyn! Thank you so much for the kind words! I believe that HAED (Heaven and Earth Designs) carries a number of Josephine Wall’s pieces in their cross stitch charts section, which can be converted to diamond paintings on a blank canvas. I don’t know of any other companies that have this particular piece legally licensed. I hope that helps!
@@DiamondsandWashi thank you I will check into it. Have a great day.
I’ve eagerly been awaiting this video! Thanks for such a thorough review, and for sharing your honest opinions. I’m sorry to hear that you found some aspects of this painting disappointing, but I think it’s a positive sign that you want to do another. This many colors would kill me - you must have an endless amount of patience!
Personally, I think there’s a point of diminishing returns regarding the number of colors used in a painting. For me, that’s around 50-60, depending on the painting. Any more and it starts looking quite muddy and pixelated (more so than usual!).
I really have to agree with you about the number of colors. I wonder if Josephine Wall's artwork might do okay with more than that threshold, but not as many as this. Say, 80-90 colors? I think HAED has a few charts with that many colors, and I have to say I'm tempted by those too.
Thank you for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope it was helpful if you were considering getting one of their kits! :)
Diamonds and Washi Have you ever considered trying a HAED Crown Jewel canvas? I don’t believe they have any Josephine Wall licensed for their diamond paintings, but they have plenty of other beautiful offerings. From what I’ve seen, their paintings are in the ~80 color range. I’ve been thinking about trying one of theirs out, but the fact that they don’t provide drills is a minor deterrent.
Holly Molly, that is one huge job! Can’t imagine working with 220 Colors! The results are beautiful 🤩, are you going to frame it? After all that work it would be sad to store it. Great job, Bravo 👏
Thank you so much, Laurence! You know, I've never framed or hung any of my completed kits, since my enjoyment with diamond painting comes from the process of working on them! I also don't really have the wall space for a piece this large. But it's really okay, I'm loving just seeing the completed project as it is!
Wow that is amazing 🤩 can’t believe you basically confetti placed all of this and stuck with it! Congrats 👏🏻. I almost gave up on a much smaller piece with so much confetti 😝
It was a crazy fun experiment, for sure 😂 Thank you so much for watching, and for the kind words!
Finally, but impressive that you finished it so fast. Really you are awsome! I was following you on instegramm and was so disapointed with the rendering of the Notredam, still bugs me. I overall hate paris, but this picture shows the true magic of it. Yes, detials got lost by bad rendering. I was thinking of buying this, but overall with the adhesive, not now. However I am happy with the colour blending and your feedback of the drills. And I will buy some of there new realises from dragons when I go to Germany next time to see my family.
Oh, thank you so much! You're so right, the Notre Dame came out really muddy. If you step back you can see the shading a little better, but still. I still wonder if the problems with the double-sided adhesive were my fault, but it's still more fickle than poured glue. Thank you for watching! I hope you enjoy the other pieces you pick up!
@@DiamondsandWashiI dont think so. I work with both types of glue, even if I prefer poured glue. It is tricky working with double sided adhesive, but I think its getting harder with such large canvases. Everything over 60x40 or 50x50 cm seems hard to manage. So makes your work even more amazing. Love your videos, looking forward to your next one. :) greetings from France
I adore confetti! Though I wouldn’t buy it due to the double sided adhesive I don’t want to deal with any trouble they cause
This is quite an achievement! You did great!
Thank you so much! The double-sided adhesive was definitely tricky to work with on a canvas this large, but I think a lot of it was user error on my part.
👋Amazing completion! So incredible! Congratulations, Katie 🎉🎈🎉
My thoughts about the canvas are based on my introduction to Josephine Wall through HAED. They have kits in 88 or 220 (max color). I think the impressionistic style of Josephine Wall can be captured in 88 colors and I would be interested in seeing something like that. A bit more manageable for most.
Thank you so much, Sandra!
@@DiamondsandWashi They have so many that it will get hard to chose a favorite. Some of mine are Adrift, Bygone Summer, Dragon Charmer, Fairy Bubbles, Fly Me to the Moon Honeysuckle, the Millineum Tree, Prelude to a Kiss, Snow Queen, Spirit of Flight, Sprit of Winter, Three Graces, and Wisteria Moon. Yes, that's a short list. There are 20 pages of images. Have fun!
Wow, HUGE congratulations! This is an epic finish, and it really looks gorgeous! Amazing job! I completely agree with your assessment that more colors aren’t always better. When I test render images, I find that there becomes a point where the image quality begins to significantly decline. 40-60 colors does often seem to be the “sweet spot.” Occasionally more colors are better, but just as often not. Since designers are often in China and their companies elsewhere, I think these renderings are rarely tested in real life before they are sold. (Except maybe by DAC and Diamond Dotz.) And yes - why is anyone doing double sided at this point? Regardless - this is INCREDIBLE EPIC GORGEOUS! 😀
Thank you so much, my friend! This was seriously SUCH a fascinating experiment and I have to admit I'm tempted to try another. Or maybe one of the HAED charts of her pieces with more the 80-90 color range? And can you imagine if they had a policy to test these in real life before selling? I really love that concept, but the time it would take! (Then again, I would happily volunteer, haha!)
Thanks again!! It was so fun to work on this project alongside all of you!
@@DiamondsandWashi Ooh yes, a HAED would be so fun!! 😀
That's gorgeous 🥰 can't wait when I will start work on my crazy 220x80 square canwas with 103706 310drills 🤦♀️ will work on that one probably all year 🤣🤦♀️
You did beautiful job darling 🥰
Oh my goodness, you are SO brave!! That will be a LONG term project, for sure. You'll have to keep me posted. Thanks friend!
@@DiamondsandWashi I think I'm crazy 🤣🤗 and thank you 🤗 when I will finish my blue peacock, I will start my 310 dreams 🤣🤗👏 definitely will keep you posted 🥰
Oh girl ugh ugh I would take those drills off and just put what ever colors in place of the ones you took off. Since it is confetti it should be easier! Do it, you worked so hard to finish this so totally do it. Also this is so beautiful 🤩
I really might have to. It's such an eyesore! But thank you!! I still love a lot about this kit.
Sooo beautiful 🤩
Thank you!!
Being new to the hobby, I’m just watching video a year later. Was curious what you did with the canvas? If you hung what did you use with something this big?
That’s gorgeous!
Thank you!
Do love the view of it! I share your opinion I think, in somr places the lines could've been a bit more defined, sometimes it's a bit blurry. Also the trees, they look a bit darker than in the original picture.
But all in all, I like it. And I am really tempted to try one 😁. But, not at the moment 😅. Going to save (no buy for sure until March, trying to go until April). And with the saved money I can go for it
Ooh, you know I'm just going to keep encouraging you to buy one 🤣 But they aren't going anywhere - good for you for saving up and planning for it! Good luck with your no buy, too!!
Wow, what an amazing painting, and you did a great job. I would absolutely love to do a DP like that. I think the rendering is suffering in certain places but the overall effect is amazing. I wouldn't like the name on the bottom though, they could have made it a lot smaller if they had to add it. Thank you for showing this, I am so impressed
It was a really fascinating project! Thank you for watching and for the kind words!
This is insanely amazing!!!!😍😍😍
Thank you!!
Wow..how long did it take you to finish..not sure if i could do it..congrats..its beautiful..i e got a Josephine wall coming this week from DAC" SAGITTARIUS"..its not nearly as big. But it confetti heavy..
One drill at a time! Sagittarius is beautiful 💛 I worked on this piece on and off for a few months, in conjunction with other projects as well.
I think it turned out really well! The DSA would probably hold me back a bit as I usually only order poured glue. Could you ask the company if they could send you a paper legend of the section without her name , so you would know what drills go where if you wanted to take out the name? Just a thought!
I was also wondering if you could make a list of all the companies that you know of who license their diamond paintings from artists? Maybe make a quick vid about it or IG? So many companies have been changing to that now more than before (which is wonderful) and I think if someone made an updated list, it could really help! Not that I want to make more work for you or anything!😄
Thanks for a great post review!
Kc
Hi friend! I'm definitely thinking of reaching out to them to ask about a chart for the bottom. Just for a someday-project!
You know, I'm definitely thinking of doing a video that covers that! I know that Jessica (Tiny Worlds of Wonder) did one a few months back and it was super helpful, so let me try to dig that up and send it to you as a starting point. I'm hoping to do some digging and get a better handle on the companies that have been switching over to having everything legally licensed (like Royal Diamond Painting and Staroar) and I'll definitely share that. I'm always open to suggestions for content, friend!
They switch already some signitures out of the paintings. It was a condition. The company also has no possabitlities to get poured glue on their facility. The best way is the DSA and I don´t mind it.
My opinion, as I’m working on one too, is there should be a middle ground. I agree with you in the sky, the blossom and the carousel. The danger of so many colors is random pixels which blur in stead of define the image.
I think the rendering DIYmoonshop does would be perfect (DAC not so much). I do think it’s only computer rendered. My image is a bit more defined to begin with, so the computer had less trouble with it I suppose, although I haven’t gotten to the seriously confetti part yet.
I believe the reason it’s poured glue is that it’s produced in house in Germany for copyright reasons (why DAC is allowed to produce it in China is a mystery to me).
I cut of the legend as soon as I started working on it, no need for it.
I have no bubbles or rivers yet, but it’s been laying flat on my drawing table the whole time and I haven’t replaced the cover paper (don’t like parchment paper).
I only have a few hours in the evenings and on weekends to craft, so mine will take a while since I cross stitch (and do other stuff) too 😅
I love hearing what your experience has been like, and your insight too! Ooh, I think you're completely right that DIYMoon Shop would probably be a fabulous middle ground between DAC's rendering style and DPD's. I'm curious whether a less impressionistic-style piece would translate better? I'm excited to see yours!! And there's not a rush - enjoy the process!
It is beautiful, but I do wish it was a little bit bigger. I think that would help with the clarity of the picture or at least make the cherry blossoms clearer. I actually found a site where you can get this kit bigger. I think I'm gonna save up and get it. You can also get ab drills
Soul of a Unicorn!!
That piece is so gorgeous! Thank you for watching :)
I need that diamond painting container
Call me crazy, but I love changing out colors and shapes as I go along. I am a huge fan of large canvases and, if an area isn't to my liking, either shape wise (i.e. things lining up like the poles in the merry go round) or their use of color, I change it out to what I like or what I think reflects the original artwork, even if I have to purchase drills to accomplish it. I guess you could say I like to add my own artistic touch. Without a doubt, I agree the name of the artist actually appearing on the canvas and at that size, takes away from the beauty of the picture. I would have just replaced the letters with colors to blend in with the water. I am super fussy and get a thrill out of putting my own stamp on it too! Oh, I love lots of colors and get bored with areas that are too large using the same color. Bring on more colors and large, square drill canvases! Congrats on finishing this masterpiece!!!
OMG it’s beautiful
Great job.
Thank you so much, Regina! 💛
Are you wearing Atomic Sparkle on your nails?
Yes!! You always have such a good eye. It's been in my stash forever and I LOVE it on, I'm sad it's retired!
Up close the colors definitely look kind of muddy and not great. Zoomed out though I’m very impressed at the overall effect!
Definitely!
I'm so jealous! I want to work on a project with 200+ colors. But, the company doesn't ship to the Philippines. Anyway, the art is gorgeous! 🤩
Oh bummer! Maybe check in with them after the pandemic has really ended - I think their shipping options have been limited with that going on. Thank you for watching!
That sucks that her name is on it like that. I’d have to take that out somehow.
Great job ! Looks amazing .
I'm like you I love a challenge I've now done 2 jw dpd dps the snow queen and the one with 300 fairy wedding I absolutely I love there kits the one in the video I've not got that one yet but it's going to come home at some point
That's amazing! Congrats on your two epic finishes!!
So this is super pretty but the confetti would put me in a mental institution. I just don’t see why there needs to be so many colors so I applaud you for completing this
Yeah...let's just say it almost put me in a mental institution! 🤣 I'm disappointed that the final effect of ALL those colors wasn't a little cleaner, but it was still a really fascinating experiment. Thank you for watching!
@@DiamondsandWashi it would have done the same to me. Congrats on finishing though!!
First, if there was a Oscar for Diamond Painter of the Year, you should get it! But for the actual painting, it's kinda meh for me. The background is kinda blurry and I definitely think they could have dial back on the amount of colors, for me, its hard to focus on one section because of all the colors competing against each other, if that makes sense, lol. But you did a wonderful job, and I'm amazed that you finished it so quickly!
Aww, that's so sweet of you, Candace! While this was a really fascinating project to work on, I really have to agree with you. I'd really love to see what it would look like with fewer colors! Thank you for watching, and for the kind words!
so.....the big question....would u do another?
I think so! But probably not for a little while. I need a mental break from a project like this, haha!
Can you link some of those companies that do large canvas in poured glue?
Hi Teresa! Some companies that offer large canvases in poured glue include Diamond Art Club, Uniquely Yours Down Under, Craftibly, Distracted by Diamonds, and Oraloa.
I will say even though I’m a huge fan of confetti I wouldn’t do a painting with more thank 150 colors
I totally hear you! I feel like anything over 50-60 colors is just...a LOT. You're brave to even say you'd be good with up to 150!
🌹🌹❤️❤️
I would have liked the building to be sharper.
I really would have too. Thank you for watching!
Can you give me the name of the painting from Deutschland that has lots of colors and I think it is a lady walking in the rain
I am glad you said the artist’s name actually appears on the canvas. I didn’t realize suppliers did that. I thought it was imposed on the video screen. Did not like it. Enjoy your channel.
Yeah, it's disappointing that that's there, for sure. Thank you for watching!
I would love to order this canvas can u inbox me the information please I love all them colors.
Compared to the actual painting l dont like the diamond painting...its not clear enough....the size is wonderful and l would love to try something that big..l have done a 100cm x 35cm and thoughly enjoyed it....
I totally hear you, and I agree. DAC has some canvases in really similar size, if you wanted to check out their stock :) Thank you for watching!
@@DiamondsandWashi dac is way way out of my price range..
Wow… talk about dedicated. What I don’t understand is if it is a legally licensed art to the company, then why is there a copy right symbol with Josephine walls name on the bottom left hand corner of the artwork.? I thought that usually happens to deter copying the picture as they wouldn’t be able to reproduce it due to the writing on the picture which is quite large. Not unless you had personally requested for it to be there. Just seemed odd to me.
