Hello friends!
Welcome to the first official video for my "Spirit of Flight" DAC vs. DPD series. In this series, I'll be working on this piece from both companies, at the same time, and sharing progress and comparison videos as we go along.
Diamond Art Club and Diamond Painting Deutschland have very different approaches to rendering and colors, and the kits themselves look very different from one another, too. Both are licensed from artist Josephine Wall and both companies have really fabulous qualities. My goal with this series is not to pit these companies against one another, but to highlight what their strengths are and what you can expect if you were to order one of their kits.

I like the Deutschland one better than the DAC one. It holds more true to Josephine Wall’s artwork. The abundance of colors is her signature, so when you see her art work with minimal colors, even though it’s still her art work, it’s just not her. But I’m very interested to see both done. I ordered a Josephine Wall from Deutschland which will be here on Friday ad I can’t wait. Kudos for doing a comparison videos between Deutschland and DAC😀👍👍
This is such a fun series. I'm enjoying it already. This type of content, I think, is one of the reasons your channel is skyrocketing. I'm quite sure that both will turn out beautiful, but I think I will prefer DPD. I'm team computer charting and team confetti. So, they are right up my alley. I think people who are into diamond painting because of the process, which I'm not, will prefer DAC. I noticed you mentioned that you think that the DPD version of her face is softer. Her hand in the DAC version also looks much bigger. I think that hand charting can sometimes overemphasize details in the painting, which can make it look cartoonish and less natural.
I don't know why, but I actually like the look of the visible grid. I noticed it in "Blossom Buddies" and my Crown Jewel Canvas.
I also love computer charting instead of hand charting. The computer charting renders the painting so realistic. With the hand charting, the lines are harsh like you said and the lines are choppy instead of soft and natural looking like you get from computer charting. 😀😀
You both really nailed the key differences and main characteristics of these styles of charting! I completely agree. I'm really curious to see how this translates once drills are actually on the canvas.
I didn't mind the visible grid in Magical Merry Go Round, but it's kind of peeking through some of the areas with lighter drills in the first column 😬 I'm probably going to have to go back through with a straightener to try to shift the drills to hide them a bit.
I really thought I was over diamond painting. Now, because these videos got recommended to me, I discovered DPD and may have fallen in love with the artworks they offer. Plus I am European, so I appreciate them being quite local. Wish me luck with a huge Josephine Wall artwork - I hope this series will keep me accountable to it😂
Oh, I'm so glad that you discovered something new that ignited the spark again! I can't wait to hear what you think of your JoWall kit! 💛
I am and will enjoy this comparison. Your approach to this is going to produce an awesome educational diamond video and I can’t wait to see the column comparisons with the drills. Thank you for your time to produce this. I know it will answer many questions in the process. Peace and love abide with you.💕
There are two diamond paintings I have my heart set on, and this is one. I'm excited to watch your comparison progress. Have a beautiful weekend. 💕
Loving the side by side comparisons!!!
I think they are both going to be beautiful in their own way. Thank you for doing sections on both so they can be compared bit by bit otherwise I might have gone crazy waiting for you to finish them both lol. Such a great video, I'm really looking forward to this series💜
I'm sure they will both be beautiful, but I think DPD will be closer to her original art just because of all the colors. We shall see. I'm excited to see this process.
I'm loving this diamond painting deep dive! It will be so interesting to see how they turn out.
I am so excited that you are doing this comparison! Think I am loving Diamond Painting Deutschland the best so far! Can't wait to see more!
Its gonna be so exiting to see the finished comparison, been waiting for a while now and I’m so excited. Lovely video as always 🥰
I’m obsessed with this already!
Me too! 💛
Such an amazing project!!! Love to follow along
Yay waited for this just got the notification eeeeeeee
This is so fun and interesting! I’m excited to watch your progress.
Ahhhhh geeking out with you and everyone else here!!!
I'm LOVING it so much! Thanks for joining me for this one!!
I think it's going to go to DPD. I prefer the tilt of her head in the DPD. While the hand looks big in both it's over all more feminine in the DPD. I can see and appreciate where DAC was going with in their rendering. The more difficult and stress inducing DPD is the way to go if want a closer to the original rendering. While DAC could be dipping a toe in the water to see if you could or want to do the DPD. So I think the both have their merits. Really looking forward to seeing both worked on. Take care and have fun!!! 🦸🌄🦸
thats so great cant wait to follow along
Right off I noticed the DPD version has more blue in the sky (with the birds) and it looks so pretty. The DAC one seems to only be yellow in that area. I also agree that her face is softer in the DPD version. I’m so curious how the confetti vs color blocking will look when her face is done on both kits!
Gosh, me too! I'm glad I started on the right-hand side so we don't have to wait too long to get to her face, haha!
Loving this series! I am leaning towards DPD too but just in this mini comparison there are striking differences. Can't wait to see next video!! I tried to see how to order on DPD website and its quite difficult. This is a bucket list project! Thanks for your intelligent education on both!!
This is so exciting! Can't wait to see your progress. I giggled at the end when you said leave your snarky thoughts, sorry you've been dealing with that! I'm curious to see how the face turns out. It looks two different sizes in each rending, one looks a lot larger than the other. Excited for the next video in the series!
Haha, I don't mind the snarky thoughts 🤣 It makes me chuckle (and you too!) at least! Thanks for joining me in this series, friend 💛
Looking forward to seeing more of this series! It’s a fantastic idea.
Although I’ve been following you for a while on IG somehow I’ve missed the fact that you have a YT channel. 🤦🏼♀️ I’m here now, though. 😉
I think this subject makes for my favorite kind of DP videos. I love seeing comparisons between companies using the same image. It’s so helpful for those of us who want to branch out and try new companies but aren’t sure of the quality.
No worries, Aimee! I'm glad you're over here with me now, too ☺️ I really love comparison videos too, and I hope this series really is helpful for anyone that isn't sure about which company fits their taste and what they look for in their diamond paintings.
With the canvas from DPD having so many slight color variations for each of the main colors it makes me feel that the image might be more blurry and not be as crisp as I might like it to be. I’m basing this off of seeing some of the other completed Josephine Wall Diamond Paintings from this company. Since, the lady is larger and more of a focal point in this painting I’d like to see her face more defined. However, this is just my hypothesis and I may feel totally different when I see the finished work. Thank you so very much for taking on this project for all of us to see! Very Generous of you, I must say!!!
I'll be so curious to see, too! And thank you for joining me for the series - I'm absolutely LOVING it so far! 💛
So looking forward to progress
My initial reaction is that DPD looks to be more true to the original artwork, so for that reason alone I’m liking it a bit more. That said, both do look gorgeous and it’s certainly intriguing to see how two different companies approach the same artwork. Can’t wait to see the rest of your series! Looooooove your channel soooo much! I’m newer to the craft, and yours was the first channel I came across. I still keep coming back to all of your content. Keep it up!
Aww, thank you so much, Anne! I'm glad you're enjoying it here, and welcome to the craft!! It's super fun (and super addictive!) 💛
Just love this series! Thank you 💜
Can't wait to see how these compare! Thank you for sharing with us
I'm thinking less in more when it comes to these. I really like the clean lines on DAC. Looking forward to the comparison as you work.
This is going to be so much fun to follow. Glad you are doing it and not me! 😂😂
I am 100% here for this entire thing. Cant wait to see the completed columns next to each other. I think the DPD one will read brighter/Springtime and the DAC will read darker/Autumnal, but I can't wait to see if I'm right or completely off base with that.
Ooh, that's definitely a thought! I'll be really curious to see if that holds true, it kind of looks like it from the print on the canvas 🤔
I'm so excited for this series! Both canvases are beautiful. It will be interesting to see the differences when they are completed. I'm about ready to purchase my first Josephine Wall (LOVE her!😍), but I'm still deciding between a preprinted canvas, or going the HAED route. I'm a little nervous about using double sided adhesive. Time will tell, lol! Can't wait to see more great videos from you!😊
Hooray that you're thinking of purchasing your first!! Ooh, some of the HAED charts are really lovely. For what it's worth, I really do think there are some good quality DSAs out there, like this one, as long as you're careful about how you handle it. I still prefer poured glue, but this one really hasn't been bad at all!
I am on the fence at the moment about both canvases but I think I would probably buy the one with more colours if I had to choose one great video can’t wait for part 2
Eeeeee!!!! I want to reserve judgment until they are completed but they are quite different, really! The DAC canvas is so clean and seems color true but DPD has more happening on the drill field so it's hard to say. This is great!
I like the larger one because of the bright blues.
Wow. I loved the comparison. I am definitely one for poured glue. You can definitely tell the differences between the companies. But doesn't mean they wont both come out gorgeous. I can't wait to see the final finish comparison. I really, really want to get the DAC version. It's calling me every day. Lol.
You know I'm right there with you, Katie! This is so fun😃! My initial impression is that, although DPD can show more detail and may achieve more of the fluidity of Jo Wall, having that many colors also makes it a little "muddy" to my eyes. I do prefer a little more crispness to the image, so I think DAC will be my preferred version, but I wouldn't mind a few more colors😉
I can't even pick which would be my preference, just yet! I'm so curious to see how it works up!
So looking forward to this comparison! I’m kitting up a Josephine Wall from Deutschland now!
Hooray! Enjoy!! 💛
Nice comparison with these two beautiful diamond paintings right now I'm currently working on sneaky cat can't wait till you come up with a video of you working on the diamond painting Deutschland diamond painting
Thank you for this comparison. I have been interested in looking into other diamond painting vendors and especially DPD. But the number of colors always intimidated me xD. Even 66 was a lot.
This will be fun to follow and compare these two kits. So far I am liking the Diamond Art version..There are just too many colors in the other version.
This is so interesting!! I’m excited to watch this comparison evolve.
I really think the DPD canvas captures more of the original artwork after I looked it up. Both canvases are beautiful, however, I think DPD is going to show much more detail (as it should with that many colors), and have more shading involved. I am really looking forward to seeing the difference between the two canvases. xoxo 💜
So excited to see this!! I've been talking to my family about it all week. TFS!! 💗💗💗
Aww, yay! I'm so glad! I hope you enjoy the series 💛
OMG I am waiting for the final result very much 💝🇭🇺
I love how both images look. I do like the lighter blue colors in the sky on the Deutschland painting. It’s weird but I love both .. the differences too. I can’t wait to see them done!
Sigh 😔 One day I will have a DPD canvas. Love this project you are taking on.🤩
Such a difficult comparison... I love both renderings for different reasons I love how clear the image is with dac but I love the way DPD has a less defined closer to the original artwork feel... I can’t imagine myself doing a DP with 275 colours tho... due to the fact that it would literally take me forever trying to find each colour and with the amount of confetti...I don’t know if I’d ever get it finished but hey I can’t wait to see ur comparisons! Thanks for your content
Thank you, friend! 💛 One drill at a time, haha!
I'm really rooting for the DPD canvas, it already looks soft, while the DAC one is too harsh in recreating the original. Plus you spent all that time kitting it up!
Haha! If only for the kitting up time, you're right 🤣
Color blocking in DPD? WOW, that's a bonus....I think I've used my four placer only a couple of times (and maybe not even for all four drills) LOL....You've already gotten a lot done. An entire column Yyeeahhh! I'm leaning towards team DPD regarding Josephine Wall, but more than willing to change my mind during the series....Love this Katie - well done - great video.
Goodness, yes! I think I even had seven or eight in a row at one point! The second column hasn't been so kind to me 🤣 I'm so excited that you're almost done with Joie de Vivre!! Hooray for epic-level projects, friend! 💛
The speed in which I clicked on this video.
What’s interesting to me when you compared the faces you can see that either DAC or Deutschland made variations to the original painting as in DAC there is a slight almost Adam’s apple in her neck? And her nose is upturned, almost like she got a nose job? I can’t tell if DAC adjusted the painting or not but her face and neck definitely look altered in comparison but I’m not sure if it’s just due to the rendering and contrast
I definitely want to incorporate comparisons with the original artwork, once drills are actually down. Because I noticed the same thing! I'm so curious how these are going to turn out!
@@DiamondsandWashi Ah I can't wait to see your comparison!! Thank you for this, such a great idea and takes time and money to do all this I super appreciate how original and informative your content is!!
The comparison look ok but I would love to do the one from DPD.
Can't wait to see more of this series.
There is a lot of light color around the white birds on the DAC as opposed to the DPD. I am working on my DPD from the left so we are going in opposite directions. I can’t wait to see how these two come out!
wow, this is a beautiful piece and I couldn't get it from DAC. It's gone within 1-2 mins. I can't wait to see your section comparison. Tysm for doing the comparison video.
Thanks for doing this. I think just because of all the colors on the DPD the clarity should be greater. It will be a surprise if it isn’t. To me, either kit would be daunting. If I am spending all that money, time and effort into a project, you can be sure I will want to frame and hang! I imagine the framing will need to be custom.
I'd have to imagine so, and that would be quite the pricey custom frame! Maybe you could do a stretched canvas? I'm not totally sure, I haven't tried doing that before.
Love this!
Hi, katie! Just want to tell you that I've ordered this DP from Uniquely Yours Down Under (DPD doesn't ship to my country). 🤣 high five! Rooting for you and this project of yours! Love from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Hooray! I briefly considered getting that one, but I think two huge projects will do for now 🤣 I hope you love yours!!
This will be interesting. I love Josephine Wall. Dac would be my preference at the moment just because it's poured glue and easier for me to get. The number of colors in the other one intimidates me.
I thought I prefered the DAC, but now that I've seen them side by side... I really don't know. I will be watching eagerly for updates!
I think the DAC is going to be more clear but the DPD is going to be a closer resemblance to her artwork. I was so ready to get a DPD but now I’m pretty terrified. 😬 ~ Kel
Nooo, don't be terrified!! They're definitely a different scale of project, but you can totally do it! 💛
O.M.G. I will be interested to see your progress. This is one of my favorite Josephine Wall images. In your first JW DP, her name was emblazoned on lower left corner. Is her name emblazoned on either of these canvases??? Thanks so much for doing this. ♥️♥️♥️💐💐💐
Hi Alice! No, her name isn't on either of these. And, for what it's worth, they've since removed her name from the first image that I'd worked on from them 🙌🏻
Looking at the two canvases side by side, I’m thinking having that many colors, is not necessarily the way to go, seems like it will end up distorting the picture, but maybe I’m wrong. The DAC just seems so much clearer and crisp. Will be curious to see how it actually turns out.
First glance, DPD has many nice colors ,turquoise, lime green and yellow, but the subjects are not crisp...like one white swan neck/face is perfect, the other is blurry. You pointed out doves with no eyes. DAC appears more detailed. Face appears very defined while DPD may be blurry. For the size of painting I would think that the objects would be more defined/details. Good job Katie. Looking forward to comparison.
I totally see what you're saying. I'm very curious to see what it'll look like with drills down! 💛
I have to say I love the dp Deutschland version better as I feel it’s truer to the artist intention! Also I feel it gives it more of a whimsical feel where ase the harsher lines of the DAC version take about from its special draw!
I do really love how whimsical the DPD feels so far! 💛
I feel the DPD does look more true to the original. I feel that I would rather do the DAC though. The amount of colors in the DPD just looses me. I am more team hand charted. This is so fun to watch.
I think part of the difference may be in that the one from DPD is charted from a cross stitch chart (I believe?). That's where the grid comes from.
That definitely could be! Good thought!
Great video! Thank you for the wonderful side by side comparison. I have wanted to work a Deutschland piece for a while just have not pulled out the wallet yet. ☺️ DAC is better at their line work on the canvas compared to Deutschland, looking forward to see your comparing the finished canvases videos.
Hey Katie love your videos do u mind showing how you section off your canvas
Hi Amalya! Thank you! I should have a video up in the next week or two on how I section off my canvas. Stay tuned! 💛
I’m not trying to be pushy, but when are you going to do a wip and chat? I’m really exited for one of those with Spirit of flight.
Hi there! I typically put up my weekly WIP and Chats on Mondays or Tuesdays. I'm sure these two kits will make lots of appearances ☺️
Wow..all those color almost 300. Doubt i would have the patience to figure out what best way to kit up. Im working DAC SAGITTARIUS and love working on it, but love the wispy eternal look of the very large one.
Sagittarius is a really beautiful piece too! I'm glad you're loving working on it 💛
I like the D.A.C
I know your familiar with diamond painting deuchland I wanted to buy another canvas do u know if the symbol for the color are totally different for every canvas?
I am just exploring this fun. I don't understand which is better....adhesive or poured glue.
Hi Katie where does DPD sourced their product ? is it in ,china or Europe in Germany im.curious coz its quite pricey so i was curious where they sourced the kits.
Hi Editha - I'm sorry, I'm not sure. I'd suggest emailing their customer service and asking if they can provide more info ☺️
Katie, can you still Spirt of Flight from Diamond Art Club? I think I have a need to work on this canvas. I just started The Cottage from The Meier Store!
Hi there - I think "Spirit of Flight" may currently be out of stock at Diamond Art Club, but I'm sure they're going to restock it. I'd recommend signing up for email alerts for when it's back in stock, and also keep an eye on the website in case they put it up for preorder 💛
Ok… so first you are brave for a few reasons… DPD has so many colors that it’s a little off putting for me because insane amounts of confetti give me anxiety. The DAC makes the image look more manageable. The colors in the DPD are really pretty with that you have completed so far. I think I will need more time to decide but this is just my first impression
Thanks, friend! And goodness, yes, if confetti gives you anxiety then stay faaaar away from DPD 😬
@@DiamondsandWashi 🤣🤣 right?!
It’s a bit early to tell without drills on it. It does seem the face of DPD is closer to the original, DAC’s has a different shape. The colors seem similar
Will we be getting a kitting up video for these kits? :)
Hi there! I did make a kitting up video for the DPD version, it's here: ruclips.net/video/aQYtupVyq4M/видео.html
I didn't make one for the DAC version since it went so much more quickly and painlessly by comparison 🤣
@@DiamondsandWashi thank you!!! what about an kitting down?
I think the DAC will be a bit clearer. 🤔
🌹🌹❤️❤️
You need to try and get the licensed Josephine Wall sold from Younique Diamonds in Australia I can't get them in England not licensed for us grrr but pretty sure USA and Canada can order
I've ordered from Uniquely Yours Down Under before, and while I know they have a version of Spirit of Flight, I think I'm going to stick to just two massive projects for the moment.
@@DiamondsandWashi can I ask what you thought about their product and how it compares to either DAC style or the Geran co.
Also yay I’m first!
Looking at the images you can tell one is computer generated and one is hand charted.
Hi Katie with DAC we all know that when you look at there painting you are seeing a picture but with the German one you are creating the painting if that makes sense to you .Yes the face's are different l prefer the German face it's softer, but that my opinion you might seen it different, l think there is going to likes and dislike on both paintings,at the end of the day it in the eyes of the beholder. Enjoy sue
I really love how you've described that! I completely agree - the difference does feel like that between a picture and creating the painting. Thank you for joining me for this series, Sue! 💛
