  • Learn how to make a spaghetti strap tank top without a pattern in this step by step sewing tutorial. The top is made with a stretch knit fabric so it’s easy to get a great fit, plus it’s very comfortable to wear! You’ll use a tank top you already have as a template so there’s no sewing pattern needed, and I’ll give you all my best tips for how to sew stretchy fabric so you can make this top with confidence!
Check out all my favorite sewing supplies and accessories on my Amazon Storefront: www.amazon.com... *
    *****
    MATERIALS NEEDED:
Fabric: up to a yard of a 4 way stretch knit fabric - I used an ITY Knit (avoid super lightweight knits if you’re new to sewing with stretch fabric, as extremely light knits can be hard to sew)
Spaghetti strap tank top to use as a pattern (it won’t get cut up or destroyed)
Sewing Machine: this is the machine I use: amzn.to/2NUixy3 *
Ball Point Needles: these are what I use: amzn.to/3ehIgvi *
Thread: this is my favorite because it’s strong & durable (I've found its worth buying better quality thread because cheaper thread breaks a lot, especially on stretch fabric): amzn.to/2TEiTbr *
Scissors: this is a great affordable set I’ve had for years: amzn.to/2NMnZBl *
(Optional) Walking Foot: if you’re using a stretch fabric that sews really wavy, a walking foot can help it sew smoother. Here’s the one I use with my Singer machine: amzn.to/2NkhoxP *
    Pins
    Tape Measure
    Iron

    WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
In this DIY tank top video you’ll learn all the steps for cutting and stitching a tank top so you’ll learn how to make a tank top from scratch. I’ll show you how to use a tank top you own to make a bodice pattern; how to cut out a bodice; how to sew the bodice together; how to make knit binding; how to sew binding on the edges of knit fabric; how to finish the edges of the fabric; how to make spaghetti straps; how to hem stretch fabric; and all my favorite tips for how to sew stretch knit fabric.

Thanks so much for watching! I really hope you enjoy making this DIY spaghetti strap tank top. This is a super versatile shirt that can be used as a cute top, as a camisole to wear under other shirts, tucked into skirts, worn under jackets, etc. I plan on making several in some solid colors to match a lot of things in my closet! Happy sewing and stay safe and healthy.

Thank you thank you thank you!! I have sensory processing issues that make most clothes very uncomfortable and a few years ago i found some dresses with this exact neckline type that are the most comfortable things ive ever worn. The store doesnt sell them anymore and they are starting to look ratty since i wear them on rotation every day (i bought enough so i wear each one about once every two weeks) but even with that ive started being embarassed going out in public wearing them. Ive considered duplicating them myself for months but was intimidated by the knit fabric and how to do the neckline and thin straps but you solved the mystery for me and i cant wait to try and make myself some new dresses ❤

It should come up if you search Comicat Creations Leggings. I really want to make a shorts tutorial but unfortunately I'm not sure if I'll get to it this summer, but if I don't I also have a loungewear/pajama pant tutorial with an elastic waistband I made a couple years ago that you could follow and make a pair of stretch shorts the same way, but just use shorts as a guide instead of pants... here's that video: ruclips.net/video/9fSvKgsmWx4/видео.html I hope that helps! I loved that fabric when you made the wrap dress so very happy to see you had enough for another project. You amaze me when you create these beautiful clothes with no pattern other than the item you are using. How did you get into doing things this way and have you ever used patterns to make things? Hope you don't mind me asking.

I love this fabric too! I saw some recently in different color schemes on LA Finch Fabrics (where I bought it from) and wanted all the colors lol 😄 Thank you so much! No of course I don't mind you asking! I have never been big on patterns - I have a really hard time following them and understanding them, and I'm amazed at how many people have commented saying the same thing... eventually I just started playing around trying to make things based on what I had instead and it worked so much better for me, and I'm so excited that it's helped other people as well!

I don't have a wrap dress using non-stretch, the two wrap dress tutorials I have both use stretch knit. I do have a couple of wrap skirts using non-stretch though if you'd like to make a wrap skirt instead of a dress... here's a playlist with most of my tutorials that'll work with non-stretch fabric, I hope you'll find something you'd like to use your fabric on: ruclips.net/p/PLPbm7bbor0ForKAHK59dMJ67BiNS5hLfU
