Hey! I’m back and squeezing in any summer sewing I can while it’s still warm! It was fun making a more involved sewing tutorial than usual but I am planning some more simple tutorials coming up next 😃 And even though I don’t want to accept it, fall will be coming soon... what are some projects you’re looking forward to making for the cooler months?
Comicat Creations this is gorgeous Monika! Awesome tutorial. I'm still making summer stuff, but I am looking forward to making some sweater dresses and maybe a bomber jacket dress😎 come Fall.
Thank you so much Rikki! Ohh that bomber jacket dress sounds awesome! I'd love to see a picture when it's done!! I'm having a hard time thinking about fall projects since I love summer so much and it's still super warm, but I'm starting to try and get in the mindset too lol!
Your voice is perfect for tutorials! I don't know where you're from, but you have a regional diction that is quite lovely to hear, and your canter and tone of voice are very consistent. Your instructions were concise and made the task of making this beautiful dress seem so much less daunting lol Thank you for taking the time to make this video! God bless you and yours ❤
Also a quick note I forgot to include in the video: I ironed my bindings down each time I sewed them which really helps with neatness and the overall look of the finished project!
Comicat Creations Hi !, you are so amazing!!!... I love how you shows step-by-step... it makes your tutorial so easy to understand... keep doing what your doing your the best!!!🦋
Thanks for this tutorial! You really make this project seem approachable! I've been making my projects so far without an iron and (embarrassingly) have never actually used one. Any recommendation on how to iron stretchy knits or what type of iron/board to use?
I did this dress in a strip silky fabric following the instructions. Turned out excellent for my first dress attempt. Thank you for your clear and easy to follow instructions and look forward to your new creations.
That’s so wonderful to hear!!! 😃 Congratulations on making your first dress, that’s such a great accomplishment! Thank you for following one of my tutorials and letting me know it worked out 😃
I'm always so impressed with your sewing skills! This dress is flawless and beautiful!!! For cooler months I'd love to see you make a hoodie! Or like a cute hooded sweater dress! Love your channel Monica!
Aw that is so sweet, thank you so very much!! 😊 Ohh a hoodie is a great idea! And yes to a hooded sweater too... I love hooded things for fall and winter, I’ve been dreading cold weather but you’re giving me some exciting ideas 😄 Thank you for the suggestions!
Thanks lovely!! I’m loving wrap stuff too so much lately 😃 Such a fun trend and so many options to make. Thanks as always for watching and hope you’re doing well!! 💕
Thank you so much!! 😃 And I appreciate that about the hair too, I’ve been practicing doing it haha I just did a couple of French braid pigtails and then just kind of twisted the pigtails together into a bun and pinned them with Bobby pins to stay 😃
Amazing tutorial Monica !!! I just love how you go through every step in detail and explain everything in the simplest way ❤️❤️. I’m definitely going to try this soon !! Oh yes, I love your hairstyle 💁♀️
Thanks Ramya 😃 Your comment means so much, I’m really happy that the details and steps are simple for you to follow and I can’t wait to see your version! Happy sewing!!! Oh and thanks about the hair - I did two French braid pigtails, one on either side, and then just twisted the braids into a bun!
Hi!! Thanks for sharing this video!!! At first, I thought it was going to be super difficult but your clear directions were easy to follow and I was able to complete the dress within 2 days. This is the 3rd dress I've made thanks to your videos. Keep being amazing!
That’s so great to hear!! 😃 I think this was one of my most time consuming/involved projects I’ve posted so I’m so excited to hear you were able to follow it and make it so quickly, nice work! Thank you so much for watching!!!
Thank you!!! 😃 I’ve really gotten to love wrap dresses lately too! Thank you so much for subscribing to my channel - I’m so happy to have you here! Happy sewing 😄 🧵 ✂️
As always Monika, a clear and concise tutorial! You are an inspiration, you really make me feel that even I could make something by following your tutorials! One question, I am a lady of a 'certain age', and don't feel that people should be subjected to so much of my chest area 😏 Do you think I could make it so that it comes up higher? The dress looks amazing on you! 😍 As always, TFS and have a great weekend! 👍❤
Thanks Hazel! That is so incredibly kind of you to say and really means so much to me 😊 Lol yes I think you could probably cut it higher! I’d suggest cutting it quite a bit higher to start and then you could pin and hold the pieces up to you to see if you like their shape and make sure it will lay right, adjust if needed from there. Also, another suggestion (which is what I plan to do when wearing the dress in my every day life most of the time) is you could wear a camisole or tank top underneath in a complimentary color. I tried mine on with a white cami and it looked really cute because I still get the nice v-neck shape but have a little added modesty which is what I like for every day wear! Or even making a little tank top to wear underneath in the same fabric might look nice too. Thanks for watching and have a wonderful weekend!! 💕
Question - since you add the bias on the neck and armholes before you sew the sides together - does this negate the need to make the bias shorter than the neck/arm holes? I am extremely new to sewing and I trying to decide to use premade non stretchy bias tape to do a spaghetti strap (I was finding using jersey a bit fiddly practicing on hubby's shirt) or just scrap the spaghetti strap and just make it a halter dress, lol.
Hi! Thank you very much for the clear instructions. You make it look so easy! 🤗 Could you please tell me what I should alter to make a woven one? Should I use a woven top as a base? Greetings from Holland, Linda
Thank you so much Linda! This tutorial is designed to be made with stretch fabric so it would involve quite a bit of changes to be made with non stretch fabric unfortunately. Because the stretch fabric forms around your body to fit easily whereas woven fabric does not, you’d have to make another version of this bodice with darts or seams to create the shape that would fit around your bust. And then you’d also have to use bias tape for all the edges and ties. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help to make a woven version! I don’t have any woven wrap dress tutorials but I do have a couple of wrap skirt tutorials that are made with non stretch fabric if you’re looking for a wrap style that can be made with woven fabric, though!
I would definitely recommend Gutermann brand thread! I used to use super cheap thread to save money since I’m on a tight budget but I saw how difficult it was to sew with (especially on knits because it would break all the time and get tangled up in the machine) so now my favorite is Gutermann Sew All thread. It’s been super trustworthy for me! I do have a link in the description of this video for a multipack on Amazon and they also sell bigger packs and single colors too. You can also get it at JoAnn fabric and usually when I buy it there I’ll wait until they have a sale... I got some last time I bought it there for buy 3 get 3 free. If you do wind up buying it from Amazon, the link I have in the description is an affiliate link, which basically just means that if you buy it through that link I get a small percentage of the sale instead of Amazon getting the full price... it doesn’t affect your purchase price at all and also you absolutely don’t have to use that link either, it’s just a way to help creators keep affording to run the channel.
I tried making the wrap dress but mine ended up looking weird. the back seemed too low and made it look ridiculous. this is my 2nd try pls what am I doing wrong. I used a non stretch fabric though could dat be why
This tutorial has to be made with a four way stretch fabric to have it fit right. I do have a playlist with all my tutorials that use non-stretch fabric if you’re looking for some projects that’ll work well with non stretch, including a couple of wrap skirts if you want to try another wrap project 😃 Here’s the playlist if you’re interested: ruclips.net/p/PLPbm7bbor0ForKAHK59dMJ67BiNS5hLfU

Hi, thanks for the amazing easy to follow tutorial. I love this style of dress, it looks amazing on you. Only been sewing for a few months can I ask was it a Jersey 4 way stretch? and how many metres did you need? Thanks.
