Silver That's a custom loop though. Quality AIOs rarely ever leak.
$150 dollar liquid cooler? xD If it was that much that is why. Custom loops are not cheap, depending on the size etc. anywhere from 300-800+. The chances of it leaking are quite slim, its down to proper maintenance when changing the fluids every 9 months or so (depending on brand) and checking all fittings while you are at it. This is simply human error.
Nah, this isn't why I will stick with air. Loop maintenance is why I will stick with air. I'm willing to pop off side panels and blow out dust every couple of weeks or every month. I'm not willing drain and refill a loop every time I need to replace a component or just because the fluid needs to be changed before it starts doing unpleasant things.

They actually make this and I will NEVER EVER do a liquid cooled build again without it! It's made by Aquacomputer and its called Leakshield. Outstanding product! You can literally drill a hole in your tubing and it wont leak! Also it has many other cool features like when you build a loop it has a pressure test mode. It also has optional ports that install in PCI header and to fill your loop you just install a tube into the port and put end in bottle of coolant and it does the rest!

Yeah well. The part should have figured out it was cut too short and grew to fit the space! *Sarcasm warning there*
Seriously. Yeah. It is human error. I mean a moron blames the part for causing the leak. When it was clearly stated that the fitting was not tight enough. Meaning the human part of the process did not check the fitting and tightened it. Though also it could have shaken loose due to vibrations over time. Depending on how long this system has been running. There are a lot of elements but mostly this was human error.

When I was doing restoration work we would send computers that had smoke damage out to be cleaned. They would actually fully submerge the entire system in an ultrasonic bath with deionized water to remove the contamination. Then the system would be placed in a containment with a desiccant dehumidifier for a few days to make sure all of the moisture was removed before replacing the MOBO battery and starting the system up. They had a pretty good success rate.
But this, does put a tear on Kyle's face
This is why I use an AIO cooler. Custom water loops require more frequent maintenance and there is a possibility (though rare) that a leak can damage expensive parts.

I've never had a water cooling loop that didn't leak.
First loop was an Swiftech H220-X semi-custom loop. I over-tightened the bleed port and cracked the acrylic. Fortunately it wasn't near any components, but I ended up trashing the H220-X and going to air cooling. I didn't try water cooling again for years.
My second loop was an EK XRES, EK Supremecy Evo block (Acetal/Nickel), and two EK 980Ti full-cover blocks (Acrylic/Nickel) connected with an EK SLI terminal. When I installed the SLI terminal, I failed to reinstall one of the O-rings. Fortunately, I caught this during my leak test with distilled water (no power to anything but the pump). After installing the O-ring and letting the PC dry for 24 hours, I was able to reassemble the loop and everything worked.
That loop ran fine for ~2 years. One day I noticed some drips on the plastic cover over the I/O ports on my motherboard. Fortunately, nothing touched the motherboard PCB. I tracked the problem down to a swivel fitting on my radiator, drained the loop, removed all of the swivel fittings and reassembled.
The loop ran fine for another ~1 year, until I noticed drips in another location, this time on the edge of my motherboard. This time I tracked the problem down to a leak in my Aquacomputer MPS flow gauge, which I removed.
I'm frankly done and I'm going to sell my water cooled rig (and I'm going to be clear with the buyer that it has leaked).
Today, I don't suggest a custom loop for most people. The basic problems are:
- Custom loops are expensive. Without at least cooling CPU and GPU you don't get much benefit, and CPU Block + GPU Block + Res + Pump + Fittings is easily $300, and that's if you buy relatively low-end. You can even drop $100+ on fittings, easily.
- It's much harder to upgrade your PC. Want to swap the GPU in an air-cooled system? Buy the new GPU on day one and it's a 3 minute install. In a water-cooled system? It's a multi-hour affair to install a full coverage block, drain your loop, replumb (especially with hardline), fill (with distilled for the leak test), leak test, drain, refill again, and bleed. You can skip some of these steps, but it's *still* a lot more work.
- Leaks. I'm sure there are plenty of people who have never had a leak, but they do happen. Even if you don't fry your gear, they can still be a tremendous pain in the butt to clean up, and it's a stressful experience.
- Modern CPU air coolers are increasingly competitive. Water is still better, especially a custom loop, but at the end of the day whether you're getting 5.2GHz on your 9900k or 5.0GHz just isn't that noticeable.
- GPU coolers are no longer underpowered or crazy noisy. The benefits of water cooling for GPUs are larger than they are for CPUs, but you're still talking about a few % performance improvement and some reduced noise.
- You can now get GPUs with factory installed closed-loop coolers, which give you many of the benefits of a custom loop but with a lot less effort and cost
There's still a place for water cooling, but it's basically:
1. People who have the money and the time, are willing to deal with the bumps, and want the lowest possible temps just because
2. Show PCs
Are you the kind of person who would throw an aftermarket turbo in your car? Or are you the kind of person who wants a daily driver that's reliable?
In my case, I enjoyed putting the turbo in (metaphorically), and the pride of having built something unique. But I found out that I also want a daily driver, and I didn't like it when my engine blew up.
So u did most of the errors. U do it right and u will not have a leak. Exept it can from a fitting one day . U did Also say that the temps wasnt a big difference. Then maybe u did it wrong? In temps there are BIG difference . I never go over 45c on cpu(8086k 5.2ghz 1.25v.. gpu never goes over 38c 1080ti .. my fans are at 500rpm so u can't hear my pc. Pump is at 2500rpm (silent) so if u want the best look, best temps, lowest noice nothing cant compete with custom loops. I remember on the hottest summer days my gpu fans har to be at almost 1900rpm to not hit 70c. 70c is when the gpu's start to trottle . And now i having 38c at the nærmest summer days and 500rpm that u can't hear if u try. I do have one 360rad and one 280 rad tho
Brian Cairns nicely put.
Thank you bro. This explanation helps. I use air cooled . But my PC is in relatively small room with AIRCONDITONER set to 16c.
For just percentage increase in performance, it's not worthy of taking risk of entire PC
Water-cooling was good idea when cpu was hitting high temperatures back in the day. But the price of cpu has been falling and it runs cooler now... same thing as GPU....... i think overclocking with water cooling does not make sence $$$ price wise... or headache you have to deal with. Only people who do it really loves building it... or need to show someone ( youtuber ) imo....
Apparently you've never seen an i7 8700k under load even at stock frequencies...
abrb1989 I have not used 8700K, but I do know it produce lots of heat. But don't you think 5000 system is quite a overkill?? Especially when it's not more reliable???
I think top of the line air cooler or.... Some close loop water cooling system.. Should do..

Hyper 212 might be inadequate, but Corsair seems to be working just fine.

SpurnOfHumanity a foam noodle is useful if you're drowning
Luis Herrera Which would mean it's not useful at a baseball game. You know how verbal irony works, right?
Air Cooling and Aluminum Heatsinks for the win!
I bet every one of the people commenting something along the lines of "should have stuck with air, this is bound to happen with liquid in a pc" has never held a watercooling fitting in their hand.
Also those that seem to think AIO's are fail-proof ought to do more research.
Kyle: Im gonna make a video about this leak
Me: (trying to disassemble and clean the pc as fast as possible)
I do NOT understand these watercooled PCs when there are SO MANY good air coolers nowadays like those from Be quiet!, Noctua, Scythe and many more!
I agree. I think water cooling is mostly for enthusiasts who want to overclock their computers and show off the looks of their computers. I prefer a reliable air cooler any day (the worst thing that can happen with air cooling is the fan dies and your PC still gets passive heat-sink protection)!
Mr Doboga not everyone likes a big ass air cooler in the windows of my pc. It looks ugly and doesn't perform as well as a water cooler.
Art Cutor i have an AIO and it's sexy, efficient, and hasn't leaked. I've had 2 in my builds and made 3 builds with them.
Art Cutor Using an AIO I minimize my risks. The AIO warranty covered damaged parts. Custom water loops like Kyle's are the more risky types of watercoolers. Maybe during a routine maintenance did he leave the tube loose.
AIO coolers don't need maintenance. Much less risky.
Mr Doboga they get water because it is cool and they have a lot of money anyway so damage isn't a big deal with them
I would love to see a Micro ATX or ITX mini hotline 2 build! Nvidia SLI support is being somewhat phased out(even with nv-link, & lazy game developers bad sli support) single gpu's are the way to go, so why not build smaller?
I can't believe you didn't just put it in rice...
Using rice is an awful and ineffective idea; look it up.

This is why I would never do water cooled anything
make a video you clean that and run it again
It sounds like a crime scene at the start haha
The saddest b-roll I have ever seen!
This is why I don't like water cooling
If anything, these videos of water cooled builds built by professionals constantly leaking and failing have convinced me to never try something like that in my own builds... not worth it. Air is fine, it won't leak and destroy my PC.
Until the air does leak and destroys your pc. Air is nasty stuff, don't breath it in.
my uncle tried a couple years back and he lost and arm and he's addicted to crack
Miroslav Starčević dust could be just as bad and air may not be enough one hardware get to a certain point but it would be safer to use water coolers by then
Yep, air is one dangerous substance, everyone who has come into contact with air guarantees their death
well technically the air cant leak because its supposed to go everywhere. just make sure to clean out your pc every couple months or so. i opened mine up for the first time since it was bought which was years and years ago. the dust wasnt even dust anymore, there were chunks of it
