      Any tip on ladder extension? The gloves I was given I couldn’t get a good grip bringing the ladder back down and it would slip so I failed

      @@ripgoose27 Putting some water on the palms of your gloves prior to beginning the test should help provide some more friction and make it easier to grip the rope. Wherever you test, I'd suggest asking their permission before doing this.

      @@ripgoose27twist your wrist so that doesn’t happen. Or workout on your back and arms to increase grip strength

    Doing my CPAT on saturday. This video is a huge help to know what to expect. I get a bit Claustrophic but Im working on conquering that fear. This is very relieving to know what to expect.

      Disregard my question in my previous comment - I didn't see that you commented on this video, too. Anyway, you might look at our breathing video - the breath coach, while he didn't have a lot of trouble with the test, didn't like the maze either. And he had some brief advice for those who are uncomfortable in the maze.

    Lots of good information. Never been to a testing facility that has videos like this to leave tips for the candidates. 2nd time testing with VU. Would definitely recommend to anyone in need of getting their CPAT.

    Thank you for this video. Extremely helpful and reassuring once doing the CPAT. Even though you can't see in the maze, any concern is taken away by knowing which obstacle or "checkpoint" as I like to call it you're at. I passed 9 min 10 seconds

    Taking my practice CPAT today and had no idea what was all inside of the maze. Thanks so much for this video. Now I can go into this test a little more confident!

      @@vugibson I failed by literally 1 second. the proctor said if I just walk faster between events I'll definitely be able to pass the test next time. I could've been faster on the ladder raise but was being careful to not slam it against the wall, and I was too slow on bringing the ladder down after extension. Also did an extra rep on the ceiling breach which wasted precious time.

      @@brentgist9322 You should probably do just fine, as now that you have the initial run over, your experience and familiarity with the test and that course should shave off about 20 seconds. At our course, typically a candidate's worst test is the first test. Good luck on the next one.

      @@vugibson true. I also lost a few seconds on the equipment carry by not following the correct line. I’ll let you know what happens when I take the real test next weekend

    This is the best blind maze video out there! So helpful if your looking to take the cpat look no further this is the best place to do it! I passed today and the instructor was so helpful!

    sweet!! Thank you. I have a CPAT this Sunday in 100 degree weather but haven't had a chance to go through a practice of the test. I am fairly fit but always like to know what I am getting into. Appreciate you taking the time to make this video for us!

      @@vugibson I passed the test. I was truly exhausted but the time was 10 minutes to pass, I passed in 6 minutes and 20 seconds. I thought it was going to be a cake walk but when I put my jacket and oxygen tank I felt the weight lol #ITAKENOCREDIT #GODHELPMEPRESSTHROUGH

    I did a practice cpat and somehow didn't notice the 1st and 3rd obstacle in the maze. Looking at this video made me realize what to expect next time I go through

    Took the practice one today and those is actually what I struggled on as well as the dummy pull. Did do it fast enough and would've passed but still

    London firebrigade does this differently from when I remember. Used to have to wear full gear, mask visor had a vinyl layer on it that simulated thick smoke and you had to pull a mannequin through with you. This seems a walk in the park in comparison

    Thanks for this video! I want to start progress of becoming a firefighter next year but I’m nervous about this part of CPAT because I have cleithrophobia lol. Any tip for that??

      Watch our video on Breathing suggestions during the test and see if the strategy for the maze is helpful for you. The breath coach in that video said his least favorite task was the maze, and he provided a quick suggestion on how to try and calm your breathing during this portion of the test.

      @@vugibson Thank you for referring it! I’ll definitely check it out. I also heard about the “confidence training”. I’m sure it’s for after the passed exam. If I ever made it to the other side I’ll might try it! I just thankful that worm tube isn’t common haha.
      Some firefighters recommended using a SCBA mask during daily routine to get used to it. I’m planning on buying one to see how I feel in it. Wonder if it needs o2 tank as well? Or would an unattached SCBA mask be enough?

    Are all of these mazes structured the same way?

    Are They all the same? Is it a standard layout ?

      The maze layout should be the same - only difference might be the building materials used to construct it. This maze is white siding with aluminum framing; often others are built with plywood.

      It should be; however, some candidates have reported some differences. They all seem to agree to stay to the right.

    So is the layout of the maze itself standardized? Like there are always going to be 5 obstacles but are the placement and order of the obstacles the same across different facilities? Like the first obstacle is the narrowing walls, second is partition, etc. or is this something that varies?

      The maze should be the same at any CPAT testing facility. Only difference might be the building materials; some would be white with silver aluminum framing (like ours), or it will be made out of plywood.
