thought the Stairmaster was for 3mins and 20 seconds?!
Candidates are on the stair mill for 3 minutes, 20 seconds
Thank you for this video. Extremely helpful and reassuring once doing the CPAT. Even though you can't see in the maze, any concern is taken away by knowing which obstacle or "checkpoint" as I like to call it you're at. I passed 9 min 10 seconds
Thanks for the feedback, and we are delighted that the video was helpful. Good luck moving forward. In which state did you pass?
@@vugibson California
Passed earlier this month with a time of 8 min 44 seconds 😃
Congratulations.
Just renewed my CPAT card with a record time in 9 minutes and 15 seconds. I had a goal to pass with at least a minute to go
Hernandez Kenneth Taylor George Jackson Anthony
Johnson Barbara Jones Maria Martin Sarah
Passed today with a minute to spare. 5'10 & 150lbs. Don't skip leg day! Those stairs will ruin your entire test if you're not ready for them. My thighs were dying by the end. Stairs will ruin you if you're not prepared, and the 165lb dummy and breach/pull are super leg heavy as well, RIGHT AT THE END! Definitely take the orientations and practice exams. I struggled with the sledge, but got it down from 22 hits to 8 by learning how to do it right and practicing with the equipment. This test is not easy, and anyone saying it is likely is already in great physical shape. There were plenty of bigger guys than myself who didn't have the conditioning for it. Give yourself plenty of time to get in shape and nail it. Good luck!
Congratulations and we agree with your suggestions. In which state did you test?
@@vugibsonCalifornia, I found your videos while doing research on the exam to prepare myself for the events and to see how the events were done by a living person.
@@24YOA Congratulations on your test. I hope the videos were of some use. Good luck moving forward.

Is this a joke? Ez
Didn’t want to stop 😂
We know that badass !! Well done Hannah !!!
She was very impressive. If she attempted again, I think about 30-40 seconds could be trimmed off.
The end 😂😂😂. Good shit though man
Too easy.....make it harder....fire is not easy !
What a joke.....physical standards should be made harder, not easier
Took the practice one today and those is actually what I struggled on as well as the dummy pull. Did do it fast enough and would've passed but still
How about breathing for running
How heavy is the weighted vest?
50lbs. On the stair master the should weights bring it up to 75lbs
150lbs now
If the nozzle section of hose is 50' in length, why is your 'pull to' mark at 58'?
The group who conducted our course validation marked the hose; their state interpretation of the rules led them to mark the hose at 8 foot mark, then place the second mark fifty feet from the first mark (58 feet). Re-reading the rules now makes me question that determination; rules state: "hose is marked at 8 feet past the coupling at the nozzle and at 50 feet past the coupling at the nozzle." Based on that language, the validating group was incorrect. I'll be adjusting the second taped mark to fit with the rules. Thanks for asking the question; upon my reading of the rules, I agree that this was incorrect. Thank you for the assistance.
I did it my first try in 8:40 😃
got my CPAT tomorrow
Did you fail?
I'll add my tid bit. As everyone else has said, this tremendously helped me. I took my CPAT today and I made a huge effort to focus on my breathing. I would have easily struggled without finding this video. HOWEVER, at the end of the day the CPAT comes down to not giving up. Every tip and trick out there can help but it's truly about NOT FUCKING QUITTING. If you're reading this, you got this! Don't fucking quit. Keep your breath. Keep your wits. Embrace the suck. It's only 10 minutes. That's it.
super experience !
Is this as big as the maze at the academy?
The maze is the same layout for every CPAT?
It should be; however, some candidates have reported some differences. They all seem to agree to stay to the right.

Great video. Really helped out a lot. Especially on the stairs. Kept me staying focused on my breathing instead of the pain in my legs. Just like you said you feel shorter of breath, but my muscles weren’t burning out like my practices while huffing and puffing through my mouth.
Congratulations on your the passed test. Just curious: in which state did you pass?
IMO Randy is harder to move than you lol
Event 7 is consistently rated as the second hardest on the test.
Are all of these mazes structured the same way?
This is probably the best sledgehammer attempt I've seen 😂. Man was about to break the machine!
Over the last three years, we've had very few equal his performance on this task.

Hello, I want to improve my fitness because I will be a firefighter. What are the training tips for me as a firefighter? How many weights do you use in your training and what are the standards approved by you? Thank you.
It’s really different for every person. Some people have great cardio and need to work on building strength, and others are strong as an ox but get so winded they will struggle with the cardio. So it all depends
Super helpful, im only nervous about the maze and being cramped up. But this guy is a lot larger than me so it cant be that bad at all.
Have you seen our video on the maze? If not, take a look it. The biggest candidates do go through our maze were both about the same size: one was 6'5, 330; the other 6'4, 335 pounds. Both went through it quickly no problem. Good luck and let us know when you passed.
@@vugibson I did, it really helped. I get claustrophobic but its a fear Im working on overcoming. Thank you for giving these resources. Really helps me know what to expect from the test tomorrow.
Doing my CPAT on saturday. This video is a huge help to know what to expect. I get a bit Claustrophic but Im working on conquering that fear. This is very relieving to know what to expect.
Disregard my question in my previous comment - I didn't see that you commented on this video, too. Anyway, you might look at our breathing video - the breath coach, while he didn't have a lot of trouble with the test, didn't like the maze either. And he had some brief advice for those who are uncomfortable in the maze. Again, good luck and let us know how it went.
How did it go?!
Going into this with a deviated septum… haven’t been able to nasal breathe for 10 years, wish me luck 😅

Dude this was awesome. As a person who has a lot of experience and education with exercise and exercise technique, i have never had a good grasp on why I was trying to utilize certain breathing techniques (many of which you listed) when close to maxvo2. This helped a lot with my understanding and the why behind using these techniques. Much appreciated!
I’m nyc you cannot fall or step out that box in the last event it’s an automatic fail
Technically a candidate gets one warning for stepping out of the cage in the last Event; second time test is over. With that said, make sure you ask the staff at your testing facility how they are going to judge the test; if they say they're going to fail you after 1 step-out, then follow what they say.
Came here for my test and thought it was great!
Thanks for the feedback. Glad your experience was positive.
Have you been hired onto a department?
So is the layout of the maze itself standardized? Like there are always going to be 5 obstacles but are the placement and order of the obstacles the same across different facilities? Like the first obstacle is the narrowing walls, second is partition, etc. or is this something that varies?
The maze should be the same at any CPAT testing facility. Only difference might be the building materials; some would be white with silver aluminum framing (like ours), or it will be made out of plywood.
Make sure you get a good meal in, and lots of water. Most of us take it in the morning, and fasting may seem like the right thing to stay light on your feet. Trust me, this screwed me during one of my practice runs. Good nights rest, solid breakfast, lots of water. Good luck everyone! 👊🏼💪🏼
same i didnt eat or drink before hand and i regret it
Same here. I had a Clif bar, drank coffee, and then had a bottle of water. I tanked out during the dummy drag but was able to get to the ceiling breach. With just one last set left I failed because I stepped out of bounds twice due to low energy and being super dehydrated. I learned that lesson. I have my cpat scheduled for tomorrow 🤞
@tommyc6720 Good luck tomorrow
@@vugibson thank you! I'm much better prepared for tomorrow's test than I was the last time I took it. Your videos have given me a lot of great training tips and pointers to keep in mind.
