- Correspondent Rita Braver takes us on a tour of the place where Winslow Homer, the quintessential American artist of the 19th century, lived and worked for the last quarter-century of his life: His studio on Prout's Neck, Me.
My favorite artist. I consider him the best of the Impressionists. He distorts nature just enough to show its real power. And his renditions of people and structures is perfect. Supremely talented.
I love his paintings depicting the rugged beauty of New England's coastline. Other 19th century painters' works - while they are undoubtedly masterpieces - may not necessarily reflect their country of origin. But with Homer's, you can essentially tell that they are American.
Many of his works are hypnotizing, riveting. Among the best artists worldwide, ever.
That was awsome respect. He was blessed with a gift.
We need more artists like him.
I agree
Great work of a Master Painter! Thank you
He is by far my favorite artist.
No-one captured an atmosphere like Winslow did!
Winslow Homer (February 24, 1836 - September 29, 1910) was an American landscape painter and printmaker, best known for his marine subjects.
He is considered one of the foremost painters in 19th-century America and a preeminent figure in American art.
Largely self-taught, Homer began his career working as a commercial illustrator.
He subsequently took up oil painting and produced major studio works characterized by the weight and density he exploited from the medium.
He also worked extensively in watercolor, creating a fluid and prolific oeuvre, primarily chronicling his working vacations.
good video :)love the arts
I was studying him at school last year (2015)
No. It was the coast of England that transformed Winslow into the artist we know.
Never heard of him but planning to go to an exhibition at the National Gallery (London) this year.
Amazing
