I've always sleeved through cavities. Mcdonalds plumbing supplies and Direct plumbing supplies both stock ½ wall plates which are easier to keep on the van as any required length pipe can be soldered onto the back. Awesome tutorial as per usual Derek. 👊

Nice one, Derek, two beautifully explained and installed garden taps. I laughed when you mentioned about PTFE, seeing as some kits don't have Loctite in them, but PTFE tape. One video on YT scoffed at PTFE like it was prehistoric, and a comment on it said run a mile if you see PTFE installed in pipework, because it's either done by Dodgy DIYers or Calamity Cowboys.
I had to defend it, PTFE has been around since, and it still is. Loctite and Liquid PTFE are nice and advanced, but I have loads of PTFE from way back and I'm not ditching them before they're finished, and I've had no complaints, no call backs, no trouble with them thus far.
Been on site and had others pointing out their choices of Loctite or Liquid over my PTFE but that's their choice. I've seen and corrected a few garden taps that made me wonder who put them in and left, thinking it was all good and done. One left the tap quarter turned. Makes you wonder. 👍👍👍

Couple points. You can buy hose taps with double check valves built in. As per regs you can replace one of these taps but if you are doing a new install you must have the double check valve inside the thermal envelope of the building which is best practice regardless. Fluid category 3 protection is minimum required. Depending on what you are doing with the hose tap you may need a higher category of protection. And you should have a trigger attachment on the hose that shuts off when released. 👍

    Thanks for the clear explanation.
The drainage point for your hot water inside the kitchen unit is at the same level as the hot water outside tap. Is this to save your mum from having to walk outside to drain it before winter comes? Or to prevent air lock if drained?
If she will be draining the taps for the winter, do you still need to put those white covers to prevent them from freezing?
I understand the video is for educational purposes, so I don't mind the 'overkill'.

Why didn't you use a red quarter turn lever handle isolation valve on the hot tap Derek? I always colour coded my isolation valves it doesn't cost anymore just a bit of thought!
