A Brief History: The Original Jack Yates Colored High

The structure of one of Houston's oldest educational buildings still stands in the Third Ward.
What is now Baylor College of Medicine Academy at James D. Ryan Middle School was once the original Jack Yates Colored High School.

WHY DID THEY CHANGE THE NAME??
Thank you for teaching me this info.
But also, many of us need to not call ourselves the reclassified names many of us are from tribes of indigenous nations , especially in texas as cherokee
