Here are 50 essential metal albums in my own opinion. Keep in mind, I'm not saying these are the 50 most essential metal albums, instead they are 50 albums that are essential for me and many others. Feel free to list albums that you think I missed in the comment section!

How not? In Rock is the heaviest album of it's era, Speed King is a powerhouse on its own

For those of you that are saying that Deep purple,Rainbow aren't metal you need to think in the context of the pre 80s at the end of the 70s this was as heavy as it got , there was no thrash , we're talking pre maiden even. I remember sitting with my brothers friend around 1978/79 when i was around 10 years old listening to deep purple ,rainbow ,thin lizzy thinking this is better than all this disco shite my sister was listening to

How great that you included a lot of Prog Metal, that is and will always be my favorite sub-genre of Metal, I would have also included Devin Townsend's Ocean Machine and Leprous's Coal 🔥

Hall of the Mountain King is a top 10 metal album of all time
Great to have included Candlemass but "Painkiller" of Judas Priest I think is more essential than any Gorguts album. Finally I would have included a Helloween album and "Them" of King Diamond.
I would not have included Pantera and Porcupine Tree.
Since you included Deep Purple, Rainbow, Rush and even King Crimson, why not Led Zeppelin? Pretty incoherent, don't you think?
I'm not a big fan o them simply. It's isn't a 50 most essential list (they would have to be on that list) . Instead it's simply 50 essential albums which means I have the option to omit bands that I don't personally gravitate to. But I understand why would think they should feature, they were very influential.

Still can't understand why is Rush consided metal. Red is not a metal album.
Anyway, Lateralus, Keeper(s) of the Seven Keys, Heaven & Hell, Blizzard of Ozz, Symbolic, Ride the Lightning, The Divine Wings of Tragedy, Dirt (still more metal than KC and Rush), Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk should have been included.
Glad you put Fear of a Blank Planet though.
Rush is in the Prog-Metal genre and Rush also inspired bands like Dream Theater which are also Prog-Metal.
@@Menyukai_wanita_tak_berhijab Rush inspired progressive metal as Zeppelin, Who, Thin Lizzy, Kiss, Queen and AC/DC inspired heavy metal. None of those bands were/are heavy metal though. Rush were definitely a rock band. And Moving Pictures is definitely a "soft" prog album. Witch Hunt is a dark song, but the rest are happy-sounding and Vital Sings is reggae-rock.

They are both killer albums, especially slowly we rot. Although, Cause of death is probably my favorite by them and could have easily featured on my list, probably should have the more I think about it. If I included honorable mentions, cause of death would be among them🤘
Heartwork by carcass was a really good choice so we’re the death albums, the philosopher is a dope song
43 out of 50. But of the seven I don't have, six of them I have the album that came before. Fun list!

Ozzy solo career is superior to his work with Black Sabbath, "Diary of a madman" and "Blizzard of Ozz" are essencials albums in history of metal.
They are astounding but... how is exactly superior, when what Black Sabbath did is essential to pretty much all the genres?
