Ive been wearing prescription Prizm road for the past few years. Eyes changed and ready for a new pair. Road is great for MTB but when its full foliage coverage is a bit dark. Liked the sound of dark golf. Glad you mentioned it in the video. So that vs Torch is where im at. Im definitely light sensitive.
I was hiking with the Trail Torch in overcast weather on the mountains. It gave me enough contrast to see the trail clearly and see the rocky details. Same time it soothed my eyes by darkening just a tad as there were no trees etc up high.
I’ve been riding with trail lenses for about 3 years now and they’re perfect for my Southern Ontario (Canada) trails. I find myself using them for driving as well on overcast days. Generally a very versatile lens. In the 90s/2000s, my go-to was either the persimmon, or VR28, but Trail Prizm is far superior :)
Really informative video. Great call on Dark Golf too! I looked at Oakley's spectral transmission graphs and can see that compared to Trail ... Trail Torch, Dark Golf, and Field all share very similar color/wavelength characteristics (though they differ in light transmission at 35%, 22%, and 15%). Since I'm into tennis/pickleball, MTB, and hiking, I think all three could work for me in SoCal. Maybe Torch for MTB/Hiking/lower-light conditions and Dark Golf or Field for brighter conditions.
I'm looking for a good lens for gravel riding in the PNW. Road is too dark under tree canopies, so I've been using Prizm Low Light. I've heard that people use Trail for gravel. Would you say that's the best option?
Seems like that would be a great option because PRIZM Trail really makes everything POP with color and contrast. It also lets in more light than PRIZM Road so it is ideal for low light-canopy situations. Hope this helps!
Very good review thanks a lot! I'm thinking of buying the prizm trail. I live in Sweden and I think the regular lenses will be perfect for the conditions which I'm riding in which is forrests. Have had a pair of half jacket transitions (not the changing kind of lenses but regular yellow/brown) for several years. They're great in a lot of light conditions but different colours doesn't exactly distinguish
Hi guys, thx for the detailed comparison video, much appreciated! If I overlay the light spectrum graph of the Trail Torch lens with the Road lens, they look suspiciosly similar. Would I be right to assume, that they look pretty much identical and the only difference being that the Torch is a bit lighter/ lets in more light (higher VLT) so it has a brighter look but it lets in "the same light" so to speak? I have a Sutro lite for bike riding (road bike) with a 24K lens which I love (it's pretty laid back in terms of contrast boosting compared to the Prizm road buit I like it that way if it's sunny outside = I can see enough anyways. However I like to do rides in the evening after work and I' like a lighter lens for that. I wanted to get the Road lens for that but it doesn't feel much lighter, only a touch (the contrast is boosted more though so I guess that would help in lower light conidtions). So would the Trail Torchbe the way to go in my case?
Looks like Oakley is discontinuing their Trail lenses? I could only find them on the Frogskins. Trail Torch is available on their MTB specific frames. Ordered the Radar EV Advancer with torch for trail riding in the Houston Texas area.
It seems like they are placing more emphasis on the new PRIZM Trail Torch. Although technically speaking the visible light transmission only differs ever so slightly so if you love PRIZM Trail it is almost guaranteed you will love Trail Torch. It sounds like you made a wise decision! Thanks for sharing your pick with us.
SportRx I was on the fence regarding their mtb glasses because of the steeper price than the other brands. But upon searching reviews, your video convinced me to order a pair. Thanks and I’ll let y’all know how they perform on my rides!
Hi! I picked up some Oakley Sutro's and I'm deciding between the Trail or the Road replacement lenses for MTB'ing here in SoCal. If the Torch's were an option I'd go that route but the Oakley website only offers either the Trail or Road for cycling applications. If you had to decide between the two for San Diego trails, what would you recommend?
Trail Torch has lighter torch iridium coating almost like Prizm Baseball but lighter than field and Trail is almost like HI Persimmon. Next review Radar EV Advancer please.
I run in palo duro canyon in Texas it’s mostly sunny very bright conditions on dirt of course do you think the trail torch would be beneficial in that environment or would you recommend different lenses ?
You hit the nail on the head Josh! The Prizm Trail Torch is the go-to lens for your environment. If you're particularly light senstive, you can opt for something with a lower VLT like the Prizm Black but the Torch would be my first recommendation 👍
I am keen to purchase an Oakley Flak 2.0 XL for mountain hiking and trail running. The terrain that I will traverse includes forests, mountains, fields, gravel and occasional roads. Are the Prizm trail torch lenses appropriate for my circumstances?
HI Clinton! Based off photos of the helmet, i don't see any reason the Jawbreaker would not fit beneath without issue, but it sometimes helps to try them on together prior to purchase.
For road cycling I have black iridium polarizedat 10% grey at 17% and persimmon at 61% . Between Trail torch and trail which is better for road cycling? I live in Malaga, Spain that is like Los Angeles weather
If it is bright and sunny and you ride in wide open areas then Trail Torch may be preferred. Have you tried PRIZM Road or Road Black? We have a comparison review you can check out here: www.sportrx.com/blog/oakley-prizm-road-vs-road-black/
What oakleys lens do you recommend for phoenix, Arizona (sunny days most of the time and not much trees) I do MTB. I'm between trail torch, fire iridium and road ? Thanks in advance
Hi there! You can go with trail torch or perhaps dark golf. PRIZM Dark Golf is a bit darker than PRIZM Trail Torch but still offers great contrast enhancement. You can see how it stacks up against the other PRIZM Sport lenses here: www.sportrx.com/blog/oakley-prizm-sport-lens-technology/ Hope this helps!
I currently have a pair of Sutro Prizm Jade glasses which I use for road and trail biking. I'm currently thinking about getting an additional pair with the Trail Torch lenses (Trail is not available in my country..) for mtb usage. Hey Sunglasses Rob! I found your channel while searching for vids featuring glasses for large heads. So far your recommendations have been spot on. I want to know how you like your Oakley helmet. How’s it fit? What’s your hat size? I want to pull the trigger but nervous that it doesn’t come in an XL like other brands - thanks
MoradoAthletics Hi! Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words! I have the DRT5 in the large and it for sure big enough for me. In fact it has extra room so the Boa system in the back does good job of ratcheting it down. Over all I like the helmet. The styling is near perfect and I love the profile and visor. It is a bit heavier then some other helmets I have but after about 2 minutes on the bike I don’t notice that. My only real negative is the super thin wire system on the Boa. Basically the part that snugs up on your head. Aesthetically it looks great but I find all the pressure on a small wire tends to dig into my head after a long ride. Not crazy bad, not a deal breaker, but also not ideal. I do wear it and enjoy it. Also if you want to see me crash in it check out our Vail Vlog video! Hope that helps and shred on!
Hi guys, first of all Happy New Year to you all and thanks for your interesting videos. I have recently bought a Specialized Gravel bike. I bought a Jawbreaker glasses with Prizm Road lenses and I have to say that are perfect for me since I have started cycling on the road (I am a beginner) as a first step. I have cycled just 3 times in the mountain and I was thinking about buying Prizm Trail lenses for my mountain sessions instead of the Prizm Road. So here my questions; 1. Which lenses would be better for gravel? Prizm Trail or Prizm Trail Torch? 2. Considering that I have the Prizm Road lenses, with which of the trail options will I notice better the difference? Thank you in advance!!
Hi Jonathan! Great question. PRIZM Road is going to be a darker lens than both PRIZM Trail lenses. The key difference between PRIZM Trail and PRIZM Trail Torch is the Torch iridium coating on Trail Torch. This is a red mirror on the outside of the lens. This makes it slightly better for sunny conditions-if you ride in the sun a lot we would choose this over PRIZM Trail. The actual visible light transmission between the two lenses is nearly identical (35% vs 36%). Either way you are going to be getting a lighter tint lens compared to road so you will see some differences there and most likely more contrast too! PRIZM Trail and Trail Torch really makes the details pop!
@@sportrxeyewear thanks my friends!! You are simply the best. I think that I definitely go ahead with the Trail Torch since my main area (Madrid, Spain) is quite sunny along the year. Thanks again!!!
PRIZM Snow Torch is the better option there-and I have noticed the snow torch is available in a few sun models including the Clifden, Sutro, Jawbreaker, and Radar EV Path.
I ride in Colorado Front Range with a lot of mixed coverage. I'll go from heavy pine coverage to absolute sun exposure back to intermittent tree coverage in the matter of 30 seconds, all at Cat1 DH speed. Flip side, I'll head out to Moab and ride Whole Enchilada which is all exposure from just at treeline down to slickrock type exposure. Also, it's going to be prescription, so only one lens is an option. Which would you recommend for that type of exposure? thanks.
Wow! You are going for it! Mad props to you. As far as lens performance goes, PRIZM Trail and Trail Torch only differ slightly in visible light transmission - how much light is allowed through the lens to your eyes. With that being said, both options offer 100% UV protection. I would say either lens will do a great job in those riding conditions however, this sounds like the type of question our certified opticians may be able to provide more feedback on so please feel free to reach out to them here: www.sportrx.com/contact
Hi there! A polarized lens is probably your best bet, especially at the beach because it will cut glare and give you added protection from the sun. If you are in a sunny environment then we would recommend PRIZM black Polarized or PRIZM Sapphire Polarized. You can learn more about PRIZM Everyday lenses here: www.sportrx.com/blog/oakley-prizm-everyday-lens-technology/

Hi there! Yes, both will work just fine for MTB. Sapphire is ever so slightly darker than Jade but it's hard to notice. We recommend choosing whichever color you like best!

We have tried it and found that it does not quite give the same contrast boost as PRIZM Trail. The main differences between the two lenses are that Ruby has a bronze base and VLT of 17% and Trail has a Rose base and VLT of 36%. You are getting less light through the lens and less contrast with Ruby. Hope this helps! I'm looking at getting a pair of oakley's for mountain biking, probably the flak 2.0 xl's, but was curious weather torch or trail would be better. I currently live in socal where the conditions are often sunny, but ideally will be moving to salt lake city for college in the coming months, where the weather is more often overcast, plus the trails do have trees. Would either work? Or is there a clear choice? Would it be better to wait until confirming where I'll be moving before making a decision? Thanks
Hi Shayne! To be honest, these lenses are very similar because the visible light transmission is so close. If anything, the Trail Torch features more of a mirror on the outside which would be more beneficial in sunny conditions but either lens would work well in overcast and trees.
Yes they do! You still get the half rim style with all the Unobtanium grip you need! Check out our exclusive colorway: www.sportrx.com/oakley-sportrx-flak-2-0-xl-limited-edition.html

That is a tough call! PRIZM Trail is a lighter lens and has just a bit more contrast boost.
@@sportrxeyewear thanks for the response whenever im looking for lenses or frames i go straight to you! So i have decided on prizm trail.
Are prizm sapphire and jade still good for MTB?? Is there a preference one over the other?
Hi there! Yes, both will work just fine for MTB. Sapphire is ever so slightly darker than Jade but it's hard to notice. We recommend choosing whichever color you like best!
@@sportrxeyewear thank you!!!
Is it easy to replace lenses in Spy Optics Czar model?
And do you sell lenses for that model?
Hi Martin! The lenses are not the easiest to replace but it can be done. We can actually make custom rx lenses for the Czar but we do not sell non-rx replacement lenses for that model. You can always contact one of our certified opticians for more information on this model: www.sportrx.com/spy-czar.html
Thanks! I would love the «sunset» lenses that one of you guys were wearing in the video on sunglasses for big heads!
For Texas which one would you recommend? Trail or trail torch?
Trail Torch for lots of sun! But that is not to say that Trail can't work too.
Good video! In the Southwest. New Mexico, utan.. torch will give you better coverage.
is trail iridium the same as trail torch? or is it just another way of saying regular trail?
PRIZM Trail Torch features an iridium coating on the outside. PRIZM Trail has an iridium coating as well but it is not as noticeable as Torch.
Hey big guy, what kind of glasses are on your face in this video👍
Rob is wearing the Oakley Elmont!
So are the PRIZM Trail better for mountain biking over the Photochromic?
We tend to prefer a non-photochromatic lens when riding. And now between PRIZM Trail and PRIZM Trail Torch you really get the best of both worlds!
Nice video i have prizm trail for 2 years and i love it.. I m a mtb er too enduro dh, this torch lens is avaiable for my jawbreaker? Thanks for the answer.
Thanks for the love! PRIZM Trail Torch is available as a stock lens option in the Jawbreaker. You can check it out here: www.sportrx.com/oakley-jawbreaker.html Oakley has not yet started selling it as a replacement lens. Please let us know how else we can help you out!
What are the glasses that Rob is wearing?
Rob is wearing the Oakley Elmont with custom SRX prescription lenses.
What frames are these on in this video?
The one and only....

Any idea where I can get these for my Racing Jackets please??
Hi Mark! You can get prescription Oakley prizm trail lenses for your Racing Jacket here: www.sportrx.com/oakley-racing-jacket-replacement-lenses-prescription.html Trail Torch is not yet available in rx.
Torch available in prescription yet?
Not yet. We heard it was going to be introduced this year but there have been some delays due to covid. We will do our best to have it available as soon as possible. You can always contact one of our certified opticians when you want to check back in: www.sportrx.com/contact
G30 was the lenses I used before Prizm Trail came out.
Nice choice! We are stoked on these new PRIZM Trail lenses and I am sure you are too!
@@sportrxeyewear yes I’ll probably get some for my old Radars or my new Radar EV’s
I have the original trail lens and true it’s not the best for non-shaded So Ca trails so I’m always using my older Iridium lenses
Can I get the jawbreaker in RX
Yes you can! However, the PRIZM lens options are much more limited. Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/GNOTQg6uKzQ/видео.html
Have you ever tried the PRIZM Ruby on trails before?
We have tried it and found that it does not quite give the same contrast boost as PRIZM Trail. The main differences between the two lenses are that Ruby has a bronze base and VLT of 17% and Trail has a Rose base and VLT of 36%. You are getting less light through the lens and less contrast with Ruby. Hope this helps! If you would like more feedback on each option you can always contact one of our certified opticians: www.sportrx.com/contact
SportRx Yes, this definitely helped! Buying the targetline frames and wanted to see other options for the best trail riding lenses. Thanks to you! Using them for mountain biking. Thanks for the help!
Rob you looked like Kramer there in the beginning lol #Seinfeld
Hey Big guy I like your shirt.......
Thank you!
What frame?
Flak 2.0 XL! You can check it out here: www.sportrx.com/oakley-flak-2-0-xl.html
They look very similar to the flak frame
Yes they do! You still get the half rim style with all the Unobtanium grip you need! Check out our exclusive colorway: www.sportrx.com/oakley-sportrx-flak-2-0-xl-limited-edition.html
Good video.
You look like Ali g
Thanks for the love!
SportRx Ali G is a god ,big ups 👊💯
To the editor: You need to make that annoying background music louder. I can still hear those guys talking!

You're a pro; that's so cool! We're glad you watch our videos, thank you!
@@sportrxeyewear i don't think you got it, im pro at programming, that doesn't make me a pro rider !! can you be a pro rider if you don't participate in world cups ? for me a pro is making his living competing. you know. you would not get my type of reactions if you weren't mentioning that every single vidéo, it's annoying. because it's a lie
