I have just finished installing the new battery (it needed charging). The torx screwdriver supplied did not fit the screws, but fortunately I had a torx set on hand. What was awfully difficult was to unglue the back cover. After heating thoroughly, I began opening the cover with the plastic tools provided with the new battery, but I had to finally resort to a big flathead screwdriver and force. I was very fearful I would break or mangle something. Prying the old battery out was also a hassle. it was very solidly glued to the battery bay!!

Today this exact type of battery has arrived off ebay. Installed it in my D01100 without any adhesive tape, battery bay had enough of the original glue left in it. Guitar picks are helpful if you have no prying tools. Prying the cover and the battery takes some patience. Sadly I've managed to break some clips of the back cover, but only discovered that after removing the cover. The cover went back OK and won't fall off, but it doesn't fit all that snugly as before, hindering two side buttons a bit and making reading somewhat inconvenient. Hope I find a remedy for this. After installing I gave the battery a full charge before use.

Thank you for the instructions! I've just ordered a new battery after years of my Kindle being frozen. However, I wonder whether battery replacement will clear the memory.

Hi. Any chance you can replace micro-USB with Type-C port in my Kindle 4th gen?

@@jonatanjimenez3819 Hi, I ended up buying another for £25 from someone locally. It's Amazons way of forcing you to buy a newer model. It's called 'pre-planned obsolescence'. Apple have been fined heavily for it in the past.
The battery swap is s five minute job but Amazon won't allow anyone to complete it...

I've had the same problem. Then I tried to follow instructions found on the Internet with DO_FACTORY_RESTORE file but it didn't worked as the kindle was not recognized as a drive.
In my case helped reopening of Kindle and reconnecting the battery once again. Now I think the error occurs if the battery cable was not accurately connected or maybe by accident some short circuit occurred. It is working fine now. We will see if the problem occurs again after restart or something. I had not enough courage to try it out right away :D
      TL;DR
Your Kindle Needs Repair -> 1. reopen, 2. try to reattach the battery cable (correct it)
PS. I was using the same Cameron Sino battery replacement kit
