If someone asks why you are dressing up? Respond with your own question; why do they dress as a child? Never feel the need to explain yourself. And yes, that blue looks very nice with you
Great advice. I love watching men's fashion channels like yours's. I wish I had learned to dress up when I was much younger. I always thought sports jackets and blazers were cool. Nowadays, everyone walks around in public like they're lounging around the house.
Thank you, glad you’ve found it helpful! I know, most people don’t give much through about how they dress, just throw on whatever. Our society has gotten much more casual in the past 5 years, but looks will always matter!
great tips. Gentlemen, up your game, and wear it as if it's normal, be confident, not cocky, and stay friendly. People will come around quickly. People who can't get over simple things like this in your life aren't really crucial to your existence are they?
Good video, thanks. A couple more suggestions are: 1. Look at the structure of the jacket and consider an unlined and unstructured jacket to start with. These drape more and are less formal so a good way to start. 2. Don't wear a pocket square at first. Wear the jacket without one at the beginning while you and others get used to you stepping up the formality slightly. Then add a pocket square in a similar colour to the jacket so it's there but doesn't stand out. Finally when you are comfortable start playing with the colour, pattern and fold of the square to make it a more obvious part of you.
I love sports coats / blazers. Sometimes I wear them with a simi bold pattern at concerts. I usually get compliments all the time. But you're right you do get a lot of looks
You should make one of these videos explaining how to keep your daily jackets clean and maybe what to look out for regarding fabrics and brand. Thanks again for the great videos!
I bought my sport coats at a Goodwill boutique store which is a high end thrift store. I have three which are from Nordstrom, one from J, Crew which is Moon Yorkshire tweed and a Harris Tweed. I wear wool slacks with them which are from Eddie Bauer factory village and paid fifteen dollars a pair for these two hundred dollar pants. I machine wash and dry these pants and they are some tough well made pants. Crease is gone but no shrinkage. So, my look is more casual but just what I want. I get comments all the time like today at the food bank. When I last bought a sport coat the store clerk said, "so you wear those." But, I am confident about wearing them. Seems our culture is in to throw on clothes. I don't feel better than others but just feel good wearing these clothes.
Thank you for making this video and for sharing your experience and suggestions. This is very helpful to me, as I want to have the choice of wearing a sport coat for certain occasions and certain venues where wearing a sport coat can help me look a bit more sophisticated and sharp than my always wearing an outerwear jacket on a cool spring/summer day/night, and of course in the fall/winter. It’s nice to have more options and stand out a little bit without looking pretentious. 👍
Another idea is to wear it over a polo or T shirt .. seems that is the latest trend and tones down the formality of the jacket .. makes it easier to wear
Glad I could help! The nice thing about sport coats is you can take them off and still look put together. It’s much harder to remove the jacket and still wear suit pants and a dress shirt, it’s not as casual.
Thank you so much for this video, really useful advice, I remember feeling like that when I embarked on that journey to wearing sport coats, especially tweed coats in fall and winter. And yes, linen sport coats are terrific in summer!
Excellent motivational video, my main concern is about fitting. It is hard for me to find the right size out of the rack. Sometimes I buy 42R but they sleeves are too long, sometimes 44S IS a better fit for me. After spending a few dollars, you want to get your money worth. I think size changes depending on the brand. Dressing well but not overdressed make you feel great about yourself, people will also treat you better. Solid colors, such as blue navy, gray, black are definitely the way to go.
Some favorite Q&A: Q-"why are you dressed up? A-""Why aren't you?" ; Q-"Do you know who you look like?" or "You look like [xxxx].." A- "At least I don't look like you." Bottom like is F' what people think. You do YOu and I'll do me. If you like to go out in a suit or jacket, do it! If you like to go out in your PJ's and look like a bum , do it, just stay away from me...
do you have any recommendations for brands? I been looking at some from Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren but not if its worth the price. I do have a vintage one i thrifted made by Burberry that is in a grey Donegal tweed that i love to wear.
Those brands are probably good. I only wear suit supply stuff, as I like their construction and feel. They fit me off of the rack, and for the money they are great. Jcrew is going to be cheaper, but I don’t like the small lapels on them. Suit supply just has that classic look.
Just remember, fit is king. A suit from Wal-Mart that fits well is going to look better than a Ralph Lauren that doesn’t. All I’m trying to say is don’t concern yourself too much with brands. But, I honestly understand about having things like that.
You can, but they get a bit tight for long drives. If you are driving for a long time, I’d say take it off and hang it or fold it so it doesn’t get wrinkled or uncomfortable. Short drives you’re fine.
Its a shame now you need to explain why wearing something sharp now looks overdressed. Just rock it daily and if they ask you about it, ask them why they look so sloppy. The nice thing is that you can buy them now at prices not much more than a glorified hoodie, and stock up with a few .. and more stores are carrying quite a lot of them again! Let's dress like men again guys!
I just can't wear dark colors all the time. I wear plaids, and different colors,I don't want to look I wear the same thing all the time I go dancing a lot at the same place.

Very good explanation.
I've been considering wearing a sports coat
Do it. And don't look back. They are great.
Very well done, thank you for the advice. And, Merry Christmas!
You’re welcome, thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful.

I love to pop up the collar of the sport coat, it is the ultimate way to dress down a sport coat.
I’ve been thinking of doing this, it might work better if it’s worn as outerwear.

I agree about the throw on clothes! It’s nice to wear something that’s a bit more intentional. Thanks for watching!

Agree. This is great for the summertime.
Actually, very good advice! I line in a very casual society in a hot climate (Israel) and this would take more courage to do. But I'm gonna try.

Absolutely. Neutral colors can look more natural in casual situations.
Thanks for watching.

@@MullyShaves does Walmart even sell suits?
I ended up getting more stuff from Brooks Brothers and tailoring it.
Great
Where is the oxford from?💗
Jcrew. It’s a few years old, they last a while.
Dumb question, can you drive in a sports jacket?
You can, but they get a bit tight for long drives. If you are driving for a long time, I’d say take it off and hang it or fold it so it doesn’t get wrinkled or uncomfortable. Short drives you’re fine.
Just start. Take the comments. Explain your reason. Continue until comments stop. Done.
Yep, I don’t get comments like that anymore.

Great comment, lol. I’ve heard of asking people “why aren’t you dressed up?” When they ask why you are dressed up.

Who do you hang around who would tease you for wearing a sport coat
No one in particular, have heard stories that people get remarks when dressing up.
Solution…get better friends 😂
lol!
