I’m a big fan of the sports jacket as I like to mix-n-match. My favourites are plaid designs
The first time I ever saw a polo shirt with a sports jacket was George Burns on the Burns and Allen show. I was initially surprised but I saw how well it worked and have tried it a view times. If you ever get a chance check out some of the things he wore. The man was a style icon. Everything he wore was classic. They say style is timeless. He epitomized that.

It's a great way to be sneaky dressed by pulling the look back with casual shirts, pants and shoes .. you will look great, but no one will say you are overdressed ... most combos work. I also like to wear my sleeves slightly shorter than you do ..

I like the looks! The trick is to wear a sportcoat not suit jacket which is why the patch pockets make a difference 👌🏻

Nice smart video, John. I think all your except for the last group were great casual outfits and I agree that the last ones were another notch up. Not too dressy but definitely showed a bit more effort.
Living in the Northeast, I love love throwing on a sports jacket over casual dress on a cool night. Jacket on a bit classier but for example if out to dinner, jacket off and definitely more casual.

I am a t-shirt guy so that first option you are showing are really up my sleeve.
I shop a lot at thrift stores (Don't shoot me; I've picked up some high end pieces for dirt cheap).
However i still struggle to differentiate sports jackets from suit jackets that were donated with missing pants. Yes, I've watched several RUclips videos that detail the differences, but it's still hard to tell at times.

Used the code. Thanks! While I was on the site I noticed that Collars & Co have a pique polo. I'm going to pick one up.. the collar looks sturdy enough to wear with a jacket, and the placket looks more typical than the polos I usually buy from them.
Yes! They have a bunch of new items that I haven’t got my hands on yet. I think I even saw a zip polo.
I really like the Collars and Co shirts but haven't had a chance to try them under a sports coat. I mainly wear them under sweaters and they work great for that. I did really like the looks you showed and hope to try them out soon if I can find the right occasion!

Hows about a sports jacket with slim fit bermuda shorts paired with a t shirt or shirt for an even more casual look and those white trainers. I have done this look to a trendy event here on the coast. Great video as always my friend.
Hey John, I’m definitely against running shoes and sports jackets but, it’s bette than wearing a hoodie with it so, for all you grown up hoodie guys, go for it
I like all of the jacket options, but think the “highest end” combination should include a long sleeved sport shirt with a bit of the cuff showing. Thx.

I've just started looking at your videos and am getting my eyes opened. I live in a 55+ resort and everyone is wearing whatever and very casual. My question is relative to my spring European vacation that will last for a couple months. My wife and I are in our 70s and we will be staying in the best places. Do you have any videos for a fit guy over 70 or can I just go with the over 40 look? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Dan

Great video idea and video John! Great variety of looks! Collars and Co was a game changer for me! Looks great under a blazer and I stay much cooler with the polo - possible video idea what type blazer/sport jackets to wear in different seasons - fabric, color etc. Question for you, if you find suit jacket that may look good with jeans and chinos - say at Express. Would you consider buying it? Also, where do recommend buying blazer/sports jacket? Any options you like outside of suit supply? Thanks John!
Honestly, I would not pair suit jacket with anything other than a full suit. Check out Daniel George & Gagliardi for super cool jackets. You can also check out your local department stores or Nordstrom Rack for a lower tier up front cost.

Thanks again for another great video. BTW I'd like you to have a chat with Collars & Co. A week or so ago I checked their reviews and many recent ones are reporting reduced collar and general fabric quality. I think they found a cheaper Chinese manufacturer and their quality is suffering

I wore three different blue sports coats. The light blue one is from Daniel George. The textured blue one is from Suitsupply. The check pattern is from Galiardi.
Do you use double stick tape to close the gap between the unbuttoned second and third buttons on your shirts?
No. The plackets are firm and stay straight.

Like the light blue, plaid looks a little busy and takes away the even flow away.
They all look good. I have a question. Are Sports Jackets with elbow patches still in style or at least can be worn without looking stupid? Should I trash it? Bought it awhile ago before COVID. It is more of a winter Sports Jacket based on the material. Thanks!!

@@40OverFashion Thanks!! Live in NY. It was basically thrown in when I bought my suit. Problem is I am 63 & lost weight. Need to get suit tailored & was wondering if it would be worth it to do the Jacket as well. What I have learned from your channel is everyone has their own style! One thing with Collars & Co I can't find them in stores. Since I lost weight, I need to try on clothes. Sometimes I am an extra small. Can't find them in stores. Now joined gym with a trainer in July for a Birthday present.
Elbow patch jackets are classic! It would probably go well with a tweed cap!

for me, don't like the snickers / sport coat combo....much better with loafers or oxfords, in my opinion
I could never wear a short sleeve shirt /polo with a suit or sports jacket, just doesn't feel right, but that's just me.
God bless the gentlemen that wear a t shirt and jeans and sneakers with a sports coat but you will NEVER EVER catch me trying to pull this off only pulling it off of myself. As Yoda said Do or Do Not there is no Try and that's what it looks like to me when gentlemen attempt this. RESPECTFULLY
l think that leather or suede shoes with jeans and a sports jacket are much sharper, just gives that subtle idea that you are aware of casual dress, but yet reach for the formal. People will know you are a type that has more stuff in his closet to dress very formally if he so desires. White running shoes are STRICTLY for work out clothes or mowing the lawn -- never as a fashion statement.

I agree sneakers should not be worn with a suit but I think they can be worn with other outfits if they are similar to the other parts of the outfit on the casual/formal scale. I think his white sneakers match the light jeans and white t-shirt. The jacket is on the more casual side of jackets because of the color/fabrics.
Personally, I don’t like such light colored jeans and would wear darker ones, and then maybe some navy sneakers with an off-white sole. I don’t own any white sneakers yet but have been thinking about it. Not some Nikes or similar brand, but maybe something from Crown Northampton.
