Thank you. I like the small, simple solution. Good stuff!
I kneel over a juice jug for urinating versus squatting. It's only used for this now. Rubbermaid, short and stout, 4 cup capacity, and has a lid. I usually separately throw away my used toilet paper and just dump the liquid in the morning...
I have a Shewee which is handy if I’m out somewhere with no bathroom, squatting sucks ladies lol.
Amen to that. 😆
I think that is very clever of you.
Smartest idea yet....I am so glad I stumbled across your RUclips. My bad knees and the Grand Caravan have got to face this sensibly.
Miss Jessi Queen Beagle and I have about 90 days but not pressed.

5 gal bucket with snap on toilet lid, $13 total from Wal-Mart. Sturdy plastic Shopping bag with kitty litter and instant toilet. I only use at night, and no #2!! Best $13 I spent on gear for my camper van.
So what do you use for #2 and if at night??
@@deedeeotero4475 same, never #2 at night!! thank gawd
@@8188jlpc so there’s always a 1st time, what would you recommend?
@@deedeeotero4475 I guess I'd use the bucket
Every single time, serendipity!! Wonderful crates. Thanks for sharing, cheers 🍻!!
Yeah I love this crate. Toilet, storage, makeshift table, stepstool, party hat... What CAN'T it do!?😆
I bet the mini toilet stuff is similar to the filling in diapers. Once it absorbs moisture it turns into a gel-like substance. No great in a kiddie pool, but it sounds ideal for your appliction! Love your innovation! XOXO
Yeah, whoever invented that stuff is a genius.
Isn't it a silica ? Wonderful product.
Nice to know about the disposable urine bags. I had never heard of them before. I have the smaller of the port a pots.( At one time I did have the larger one. But found it to be very heavy to empty.) That I used in my OTR the trucking team days. With my late husband. I think it would fit in the area where your gallon jugs would be stored. And would be at a easy location for emptying. Even though it would take up space. It seems I have a quicker need for a toilet and more often these days. I really hate public restrooms. There is only one of me so there would be more storage space. Thank you for the video. Blessings in your days.
Yes, everything is a trade off! Thanks for the good wishes and your kind words 🙂
Thanks for great tip and simple practical design!
You bet, Matt. Thanks for watching!
A small amount of vinegar added to a clean empty pee bottle or portable urinal helps eliminate odor. If you can pee separately from pooing there will be very little smell and mulch, cococore (sp) or pet litter will be enough to keep smell from getting bad in poop bucket.
Ok you are a woman after my own heart!!! GENIUS!!!! idea...thanks so much I think that is a solution for a problem I will have this winter....going to be boondocking hopefully out west...and in FL
Great use of space and Honda Odyssey are very reliable too
Hi Megajack, I totally agree. I had an old Accord that lost power to 1 out of 4 pistons, but STILL made it all the way from Chicago to Texas. Thanks for checking in!
I really like your style.
Aw, thanks Hope. You rock!
Thanks, good info....and with some humor
Thanks, Betty, for appreciating my "potty" humor😉😆
What a good idea, even for long trip. Than'k you
Yep, it's saved me a couple of times! 😆 Thanks for watching and taking the time to chat.
You can also consider an absorbent material like perlite for waste absorption. That's what the Spill Magic absorbent product is made of per the SDS. You can just pick that up in the gardening or feed store.
Same with the gel / fake snow making / soil retention water polymers that are also used in diapers, or are quite similar.
You can make your own Travel John / Jane emergency potty bags with those and the empty sealable vomit bags they sell on Amazon.
In industrial spill applications (which includes water and oil) their products use things like coconut coir, coarse vermiculite, coarse diatomaceous earth, and sawdust.
Just check the SDS (section 3) on those things and you will see how they just slap a brand or fancy name on the product and upcharge you handsomely. Sometimes you have to translate the fancy "chemical" name, but most of the 'active ingredients' are really basic stuff.
They also sell diaper booster inserts (baby + adult) and bed pan pads embedded with the absorbing ingredient which can be used in a pinch and are priced well at volume. Smaller than puppy / bed changing pads too.
The pricey EcoGel for camping waste buckets is simply made of sodium polyacrylate (
I gotta hand it to your energy to research the subject. Thanks for the great info!
@@TheVanThatGotAway 😂 I actually spent a few hours of random weekend day going down this rabbit on a detour from researching something else.
Yep, I've done the same thing myself🤣
Great idea 💡
Out of neccessity comes some creativity 😉
Love it.
Easy breezy!🙂
Good quick ideal
Why, thank you! Very kind of you.
Thanks really like disposable tiny toilet
Yeah, they were a real find.
32oz yogurt cup. Pour into Tide bottle. Put shavings in if there may be a #2 (never mix 1&2)and dog poo bags. When I get to a fancy flush toilet, I just dump/flush. Easy Peasy. At night, put down dog potty pad in case my aim is off in dark. Also made fabric swatches/spray bottle (low key bidet😂). No toilet paper needed. Vinegar added to Tide bottle & a swish or two & we’re off! I had bought a portable potty but took up too much room & "sweated" when lid was closed. Gross.
Hi Stan! I like your system. What kind of rig do you roll with?
A baby diaper also jels liquid. Much less expensive
Good thinking! If I had kids, I would probably know that. Thanks for your info.
Genius
Aw thanks, Kristie. Not genius, just sometimes "urgent", LOL!!
Perfect 👌
So far this setup hasn't failed us.
Just subbed. Great ideas
Aw, thanks Liz! It's great to have you here 😃
Do those little wee bags fit securely overtop of the bucket? Thx! I like the design and idea!
i just have the 2 gallon painters bucket from HD works great and i can put a cheap diaper in it the snap on lid works great or actually a bag first then the diaper
Oooo, a diaper you say? That might work for us. Maybe drop a diaper in a bag and line the bucket.... then aiming is less critical. LOL!!
@@TheVanThatGotAway and more comfortable to sit on
Oy, the wind!
Now how the hell do you sit on that? I don't see enough leg room to squat over it and I'm 5'1 122lbs
Hi Janet, The key is moving the passenger seat up as far as it goes. Then straddle the crate while you face the rear of the van. It's not luxurious comfort but it works, and I'm 5'5" and 160. LOL!!
trash can can work also....pine pellets is great
You know that is an excellent idea! It is large enough that you 'can't miss'..... and collapsible. Genius!
Hi Bridgett! Yep, I want to avert a potential disaster. Also, I upgraded from the bags to larger "commode liners." They stretch over the bucket so now I really can't miss! 😀
Good video . The folding crate comes in small , medium and large ... Which size did you use ?
Hey David, I chose the small and it works fine for my derriere since I'm not really sitting on it, just resting.😉 Thanks for asking.
It’s really hard to understand you with all the wind. You might try one of those fuzzy blue tooth mics.
We were in Arizona recently and saw all the signs on the highway about dust storms. Does the dust get into your vehicle? I would think being caught in a dust storm would automatically make you need to go to the bathroom, just because you couldn't get out of the car 😆
Pshhhh, no demo? What kinda channel is this anyway??? 😂😂😂😂😂 that bucket in the basket is genius! Like you said, it’s for emergencies, and we’ve all been in that situation. Never heard of the mini toilet, I’m going to check your link in a minute.
Have you watched Allison on Travel Snacks? You two have that same fun, witty vibe, she did a whole video about this topic when she was a car dweller, even Demi’s wearing a depends over bike shorts lol. I would loose my mind if you two did a collaboration!
LOL!! Heck, I'm trying to keep it classy over here and that's not easy with 2 people in a minivan 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for your recommendation to check out Allison, I'm always looking for fun channels. And thanks for watching my little videos.
question: while you are doing your thing what does your partner do? Does he look the other way? and what about the smell. also is there a difference if it number one or number two?
Hi Marc, Good questions. This is strictly for a pee-mergency. And since we spend most of our time outside, we're not usually in each other's "business." 😉 Lol! Sometimes, however, I must avail myself of the facility in the night when hubby is asleep. But since we've been married over 10 years, we don't get too shy about it. I don't recommend minivan camping for a first date🙂🤣
@@TheVanThatGotAway hahaha ok. if it works it's all that matters. yes i won't bring my partner there on our first date. i love your abode though and i am seriously considering it. thanks for the inspiration
Pure clay kitty litter absorbs great and eliminates odor. And its cheap!
would u put the name of the mini toilet bags or where u get them at
You bet! I put the link in the description. I found them while browsing Amazon.
Long it works
Gotta do whatcha gotta do! 😆
Will you give us the link for the crate and the mini toilet?
Hi W, Yep, just check the video description... links are in there for you. Thanks for asking.
Somehow I thought the toilet gel bags were large and fit over the bucket. So, short of a demo, do you stand over the bucket in case of misses, sit on bucket/crate and hold gel bag in place? Also trying to come up with something that doesn't take up space when we don't need it, but can be in the ready at night when it's cold or too dark and scary to go to the campground restroom.
Hi Susan, Yep, they're "personal" size. I do squat over the bucket in case of misses, just as you said. The hubby just uses the bags, no bucket, since he can aim better. LOL! Thanks for asking. 🙂
@@TheVanThatGotAway thanks for the quick reply. Those lucky guys-so much less thought required about meeting their toileting needs. Amazon is out of stock for the mini gel bags you linked, but now I have a workable idea. Thanks for the video.
@@susanlyon1972 you know the demonstration she gave where you move the passenger seat forward to have enough room behind that seat ? Well, a guy just stands behind the open door. *BOOM* ... done.
@@lylestavast7652 You lucky guys!!
I went to the Amazon link, and WHAT? You have to hold that little bag open with your hand, squat over that short crate while holding on to something for support with your other hand, do something with the bag while cleaning yourself, then clean up any spillage in the bucket or you’ll smell it until you do clean it. I dunno about all that. I bought a toilet, with a lid, that I can sit on comfortably,; no holding onto something, no squatting, no spillage. I can wipe, close the lid-I’m done! I use cheap pine pellets, just a handful, in the bottom of the bag, and urine is absorbed, no leaks, no smell, until I dispose of it. I use biodegradable bags in some kind of attempt to be earth aware. I’ve actually set this up outside my vehicle for a trip where there were no facilities nearby, and was able to have my own “outhouse”. I’ll keep watching because you do have some amazing ideas; love the build video!
( Just had a “toilet” emergency while driving down the highway. Pulled over, jumped in the back, pulled my intact and already bagged toilet out from under my bed, and my emergency was rescued!)
Hi metro! Thanks for sharing your solution😀 I'm actually going to re-imagine our toilet situation, as the little bags are easier for Hubby than for me. I'm thinking about something more like you just described. Thanks for taking the time to say hi!
Haha I also have the same setup as you. Collapsible toilet with pine pellets. I actually have those collapsible crates in the video for laundry and I find that they are prone to break so I wouldn’t trust putting any weight on them. I agree I would much rather be able to rest while I wipe etc too. for urine I’m thinking of just getting one of those portable urinals for peeing so This is just my emergency option for number 2s but I’ve never been caught out to have to test it out just yet.
My new crush
Where do you buy the collapsible crate?

Just curious, how come you didn't get a 5 gallon bucket from lowes or Homedepot and a foldable toilet seat? you still have room and you can store other items in the bucket when not in use? I have used that for my cargo trailer camper conversion.
Hi Charles, Thanks for asking. I thought about it but I couldn't see where else we would use the 5 gallon bucket. And an empty bucket takes up a lot of space in the minivan. Plus, I just love anything that folds up and stores away. 😂 Thanks for watching!
I get all that but what do you do with the little bag after?
We have a little trash bag in the van, we drop the sealed "pee" bag in it, then we dispose of it in the morning. Thanks for asking!
@@TheVanThatGotAway Where?
@@robfninh I think you treat it like a baby diaper or dog poop, throw it in the trash.
Not sure how you would go No. 2 in that small bag opening, but I guess if you hold it just so....
Hi Kolette, Thanks for asking. We use this strictly for #1.
Just in case we get caught in a baker's dozen of pinches, cause they baked with laxatives on accident lol.

Maybe those bags are filled with sodium polyacrylate (diaper polymer). It can be bought in bulk, Amazon, and then just sprinkle it into a trash bag.
