Pre-production units/engineering samples always needs to be destroyed and not sold as scrap. Preprods are typically abused and inferior to redesigned and optimized production units. Companies do not want to use preprod parts at all and rather destroy it. Costs of the unit is already taken into consideration from R&D costs.
And tend to be worth a hell of a lot more

This is a pre production model so they are not allowed to sell the car or it's parts because they are not gone through all the testing to prove the safety. End in the end the manufacturer has to take every responsibility for that car or parts. No manufacturer would take that risk.

Guys the Bentley is a prototype Bentley. It’s unfit for city life and official driving. It’s only design was to test out the new model and that’s it. This car was never meant to be sold and driven officially. Therefor once it’s been used, it gets recycled and such.

Test car can’t used or sold to the public, even if they let you have it you would never be allowed to drive it legally as no insurance company would insure you to drive it. I remember we had a brand new Range Rover at our factory and we where doing clutch development for it, after we finished it went off to be scraped even though all we done was put different clutches in it, the car was 💯 fine.

This is a preproduction unit. When a version of the product is finally released to the public, manufacturers tend to destroy all the pre-prods. Like completely destroy it to the point all parts are unusable. Pre-prods probably don’t meet the mandated safety standards so manufacturers destroy them completely so pre-prod parts don’t hit the market.
@Jeffrey LaPuente,most of that is done at the Bentley factory in Crewe,I used to work there,and actually worked with the guy who was in charge of the scrap cars,I even fork lifted some of them on and off wagons coming from crash tests😃happy days until covid lost me my job!!!!!!😠🤬

I have heard of this before, and seen videos of high end cars being crushed. I can see why it would have to happen.
Some years ago “Top Gear” reviewed a new Jaguar and the car looked/drove great. The show didn’t reveal it was a pre production model and at the end of the review it was driven into a scrapyard and smashed up!
Later they said it had to be crushed for the reasons you stated above.

Unfortunately yes. As the car is a pre production model, if parts were taken off and used they may not be to production standard and could compromise safety.
Likewise the car if it was sold it may not be to production standard and may tarnish the reputation of the company, or even generate litigation.
When they are in the scrap yard, all cars look remarkably the same. Anything made in England deserves to be crushed as it comes off the production line.
One person tell me about why brand new prototype cars are crushed. There is the reason, if one of this pre production cars (1st pressing cars) occurs an accident or any failure if this vehicle is sold normally, to avoid a sue in court due to factory failures, for this reason they destroy the whole vehicle, engine, transmisson, interior, chassis, etcetera. With this data the 2nd vehicle and beyond is produced in mass to the dealers

That was not a perfectly good car. They make 100s of pre production cars each with slightly different specs on parts from the smallest rivet to the entire chassis. Think of it like a rough draft of an essay. You can't save any parts unless you are willing to go through the process to verify that part was not only the final design but also built properly to spec with the final production process
