    Hi, Mark.
    Excellent video. I've mentioned to you before that I'm back into the hobby after about 3 decades, and I'm currently building the TT-02 Audi Quattro. I'm almost done and I just wanted to mention again how wonderful and helpful your videos on the subject have been. Some great ideas and mods that have saved me from spending way too much on hop-ups. Your method has made it far more enjoyable for me. It's really fun to see how much you can improve the car without bathing it in blue aluminum. Thank you so much. Your work is much appreciated.

      Hi Marino - thank you once again for the very kind words, it's so encouraging to me and very much appreciated. Great to hear you've found the mods and tips useful, as it's exactly why I make these videos. Wishing you a great 2022, all the best from Mark... 👍

    This is the kinda stuff that makes the hobby so fun. Gotta try this suspension mods myself. Road cars are super fun on a track but rally cars or buggy's are so much more usable. Just bash around on any ground where street cars get stuck.
    I have cut out a thin piece of plastic and put over all the holes that you covered with glue. It is held down by the arms that joins the steering components. Works well also.

    Great Tips me Mukka. Notably the 2 holes in the side to Zip Tie the ESC Switch on!!!👌🏆

    I just got my kit in the mail. Can't wait to put it together, and tear it up . 😆. I went ahead and ordered some crucial performance hopups.
    Aluminum drive shaft
    Yeah racing adjustable motor mount
    Yeah racing spur adapter
    Aluminum adjustable oil dampers
    2s lipo
    These few hopups will take this kit from decent to wicked. The YR motor mount and adjustable spur adapter allows you to run 64 pitch gears, and really wakes up the tuned Tamiya motor.

    Wow Mark some great improvements here. I must say you've got more guts than me in chopping off ( filing down ) parts of a Tamiya chassis, and somehow knowing everything will be fine. Obviously it's down to experience and you obviously think like an engineer. I fully agree with your analysis of the kit shocks, those springs really were too thick with way too much rigidity in them - as you said pretty useless. Anyway what surprised me most was the addition of the heat sink. I'm assuming that motor was a 540 silver can ? If so I'm amazed a heat sink is needed. Ultimately though I suppose all motors need all the help they can get especially in hot weather. As always I'm very much looking forward to your bodyshell video. Those lexan shells really do take some fiddly, tiresome and specialised work and you really are a master with them. I know upfront you'll produce a beauty. Anyway have a great weekend dude..👍🏻.

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  4 года назад +4

      Hiya mate! Yeah, it's always with a little trepidation when I start chopping Tamiya kit parts, as I usually don't have a spare in case it goes wrong! But as I say, slowly, slowly, keep checking before it gets past the point of no return! Ahh, the heat sink - yeah never really get a problem running on road, but a few of my rally cars are running higher than stock gearing off road. If the terrain has hills, grass or mud I find it puts drag on the car and the motors do get hot. Haven't started the body yet, just getting over returning to work full time! I'll take my time over that and do it in stages, I really enjoy that part of a build. All the best to you, hope the weekend's going well for you too mate. :-)

I actually got round to painting the Audi TT01E body, i don’t know what happened...... but the silver turned out to be chrome looking, and I think it looks killer. Hooray you got it loaded up and it's still Friday! Really useful stuff. I had noticed the fact that the lumpy bit poked down by the front wheels but had never thought to do anything about it. Likewise I hadn't noticed that the steering is limited by that lug. I really need to go through my TT-02 and do the bits and bobs from parts 1 and 2 of your vids. I just got a set of the Chinese rally block tyres today and have put them on the gold wheels that Derek gave me. The Subaru now looks the business! Going RC'ing tomorrow which will be good hopefully. Glad you made it through work ok this week. I look forward to seeing your Subaru finished. Have you got any plans for the weekend or are you just recovering? Cheers for now mate 😀 🍺🍺🍺

    A lot of people remove the motor cover on the tt02 / tt02b but for extra cooling your supposed to fit a 30mm fan on the top, the fan lines up exactly on the four holes. ( remove the small cover )

    Thanks Mark. Some brilliant ideas there! It’s disappointing that Tamiya call a it kit a “rally kit” and it needs to be modified some much to get some rally pedigree.
    I’m building the TT02 Motul Autech road kit and was surprised by the lack of suspension travel. It’s been blinged up a bit with alloy components and the obligatory bearings.
    But it’s barely above toy grade with a lot of it’s out of the box parts being what I would call below par.
    Happy driving mate! 👍🤓🇦🇺

Or try the 70mm shocks with the stock TT02 springs on them? Might just work! Oh yes, the new chassis cover would be a great addition to any off-road TT02. Cheers for the comment, my friend! :)

    Hello mark , first of all great video, I’ve got a tt-02d that I’ve been transforming into a rally car and I’ve followed all your steps . Looks great although the front dogbones seem to be about to come off the cups in certain steering angles. You mentioned on the video to replace it for metal ones (dogbones and cups) have you got the part number by any chance? Because I’ve googled it myself but i found a few different ones and don’t want to buy the wrong size 😅
    Thanks

      Hi there and thanks for the kind words! Oh yes, those dogbones will fly out if you are not careful. Mine have been OK because I restricted the steering with the dual rate steering setting on my controller.
      You can search for the Yeah Racing TT-02 universal Joints ( www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353942068573?epid= ) that are excellent but you will also need to change the output joints to metal ones. Alternatively the link below is for a set that will fit without changing the gearbox joints:

From your other video with your car running it looks to handle well. Thanks!

    Currently building my TT-02, probably gone end up going with a heatsync but the idea behind the cover is to force air around the motor. if you'll notice the 2nd part is not a cap but a scoop so as it drives along and air moves over the chassis the scoop catches it and redirects it downward to go over the motor...in theory....how much air actually moves inside of the car when driving can't be that much pretty much whatever can make it's way up the wheel well as the body tends to close off the front pretty well

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Год назад

      Hi there and thanks for the thoughtful comment. Yeah, I agree with you about that motor cover and what it looks like it's supposed to do. But in practice, as you say with the body fitted the airflow inside the chassis is minimal and I find the motor runs cooler without the cover. The best solution is a fan to force the air in, that you can fit by removing the scoop, the cowling has the holes to accept a fan. But for £3 the simple heatsink is a good cheap and maintenance free solution! Cheers!

      @@MarkBryanRC thank you again for your video's, just gave it it's first propper test in the front yard (we have half inch- an inch big pretty jagged lose stones which make for pretty rough terrain). shortening the front cup peg at the bottom was pretty MVP, also the CVA's. on a earlier test it couldn't make it up a light slope (of jagged little rocks but still) now it'll just get up there.
      didn't have a great drilling solution so I opted for some traxxxas 3x6mm sunken selftapping screws and some traxxxas 5mm sunken head washers which looks amazing and gets the job done (I think using a 5mm tamiya washer with a tamiya 3x6mm would actually be better as the washer is much thinner but this look pretty nice :P also used threadlock since...6mm instead of 10mm .
      only disappointment that I'm considering fixing but it's 20 bucks to fix which...is a bit steep is that the CVA kit I got only had black medium springs rather then the 3 options. went with soft dampening oil and the 3 hole restrictor which seems fine but the spring is just a bit to strong...or the rocks are to jagged :P
      rocking a celica GT-4 body (aftermarket which doesn't look as sharp as the tamiya body that came with the kit but it's the only game in town for that body so I'll take it :P also found the matching rims from tamiya which were silver for some reason..painted them which...isn't great...)

      if I had a time machine i'd probably have just gotten a TT-02 SR, all of the pro's of the S with the hopup bits you'll probably end up getting anyway (SRX isn't compatible with the type S lower arm mods). do the diff's and driveterrain and call it a day.

There seem to always be more touring versions in stock than off-road though. Do you know off hand if the 65mm shocks are too long or would they fit? Hi and great to hear you found this stuff useful! Good luck with the build. I think 65mm will be a bit too long, but 60mm might work as long as the springs aren't too stiff as the gap is only about 55- 58mm with these mods. Squashing a longer shock in the gap will add a lot of preload to the spring. Drastic measure is to cut a bit of the coil off each spring, it's worked for me in the past! All the best my friend! :)

    Hey Mark, Finally got the time to sit and watch the whole vid. I think new shocks will work well, rallying needs a softer set up than touring cars. I wonder if there is an aftermarket shock with a set of various strength springs. The rear was so much easier to mod then the front. Rocks can get in the 540 motor vents. I use cheese cloth or window bug screen to cover them. Are you going to run a 2s Lipo on this set up?? Great tutorial, looks like you are going to hit 4k subs soon, Have a great weekend bro👍🏾👍🏾

    Hi Mark. Well, the car is shaping up nicely. I see you've been able to leverage some suspension mods from my build. Always happy to help if I can. One minor difference that I've noticed with my build however is that I've used metal washers under the button head screws on the LOWER ball joints. I think the metal washer will function more effectively as a thrust bearing than that stock plastic washer. Nearly half of the car's weight is carried by these two lower ball joint screws and as they become packed with dirt they tend to drag and create additional work for the servo. I think perhaps having metal-on-metal will reduce drag. Dirt also packs the lower ball joints seizing them in the suspension arms rendering the front suspension virtually useless. This is the problem with this design but I may have a solution and once I have it sorted I'll update my post on RC10talk.com. Meanwhile, I'm very much looking forward to your next installment. Cheers Mark!

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  4 года назад

      Hiya Accelerate! Many thanks for the info! Yeah, I took inspiration for that bottom suspension fix - thanks! I used that plastic washer because I didn't have any 8mm cap screws left - the 10mm ones just protruded into the drive cup area so I needed a spacer. Will redo that when I get some more. I'll look out for the ball joints clogging up - thanks again! Hope your solution is a success. Now I'm looking forward to driving this one, it may be a while as I'm very busy at the moment, and I still got that awesome body to do. Cheers bud! :))

    • @bamabiker750
      @bamabiker750 4 года назад +1

      @@MarkBryanRC Yeah, if they weren't bad enough already, there's a slit in the plastic ball apparently to allow it to pop into the arm more easily. This gap just lets more debris into the joint. Also, the soil here is rocky and sandy so it's the worst possible scenario.
      Anyway, thank you for the report on those China rally block tires. I was eyeing those on ebay and was curious if they were good. I'll get a set on order. The stock Tamiya tires wear like iron but it might be nice to try a set in a softer rubber compound. Thanks again Mark!

    Hi Mark. Great video! I've just built this today and used some of your tips 👍. Can I just ask about the grease you've used to stiffen up the diffs. Will doing this reduce the acceleration or top speed or put more strain on things? Genuinely don't know, not saying it will 😄. Cheers 👍

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  4 года назад +1

      Thanks very much! Glad you could use some of the tips. As for the diff, when the car is running straight, the gears in the diff don't move, so no, the grease doesn't have any impact on performance. The gears in the diff only move when one side is turning faster than the other (eg when cornering or if one of the wheels is spinning on loose ground). This is when the thicker grease stops the faster moving wheel spinning as much, helping to give traction to the wheel running at normal speed. This all helps the car get traction, but doesn't stress the diff. Hope this makes sense! :))

Im not new to rc by any means (over 20 years in the hobby), but newish to electric powered cars (3 years). So far I have burned up two Tamiya motors, a Torque tuned and a Sport tuned, in my TT02's that I set up for rally. In one I ended up adding a 15T 550 and fans and 15T pinion, and it seems to be better, but it seems no matter what Pinion and spur I use the tamiya Torque and sports tuned keep getting blazing hot without even going through a full battery. Any advice? I could just get another 15T 550 but I would rather be able to run my TT02s with Tamiya motors. Thanks again and thank you for the videos! Keep them coming!

I am using mainly 22T pinion and standard spurs. I do have alloy heatsinks fitted to the motors, and run NiMh and 2S LiPo. Can't understand why yours overheats, unless you are running in deep grass or mud? Does it happen when running on road? - what ESC and batteries are you using? Very strange indeed! Hi Mark, another well made and informative video, thanks again! A question re the suspension mods - with the changes that you've made here, would it still be possible to revert the cars ride to an on-road one? Say you wanted to switch to an alternative set of wheels shod with slick tyres for some tarmac stages?! A bit of wrench time I know, but would the alternations still make that a possibility?
    Cheers, James

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  4 года назад

      Thanks very much, James! But yes, it is certainly possible to revert the mods to a near stock setup. To swap the uprights back to stock would be the most time consuming, but easy to do. However, the biggest difference would be to swap the shock bottoms for the shortest ones. The fastest option would be to have a spare set of shocks set-up with a shorter distance, eye-to-eye, say, 50mm. It would then only take a couple of minutes to pop the shocks on and off the ball joint mounts!
      Cheers,

      I translate you comment as:
      "then you have a different TT-02 kit than the one I have. Because in my kit, I want high ground clearance, so says the instruction manual, exactly what I described. But I will not deny that Tamiya has changed this, from yours to the 8 pieces I have. Sorry I wrote, you do it your way, so I stick to my method. Have a nice day."
      My Reply:
      Ahh - this is very strange! If your TT02 can have the front suspension raised simply by swapping the uprights from left and right, it must be very different indeed! As you can see from my video, this is not the case with my new TT02 Subaru Imprezza kit. I am pleased you wrote - at least we know there are differences in TT02 kits. Thanks for your reply, I wish you a very nice day too! :)

    Great video again. So if I was looking at after market shocks go 60mm instead of 55mm?

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  4 года назад +1

      Cheers, Mark! Yeah, 60mm seems to be about right, but when looking for shocks, check to see what is included - e.g. the Fastrax shocks come with different shock bottoms, so like the Tamiya ones, you can tune for the best length. Thanks for watching my friend! :)

      Do you glue your tyres on to the rims for off road?

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  4 года назад +1

      Hi Mark - with the Tamiya rally blocks and a stock motor, no - they stay on fine without glue. The Chinese knock-off are softer and need glue. With a brushless setup, I think even the Tamiyas need glue! :)

      @@MarkBryanRC cheers Mark, yes I have cheaper tyres for my M05RA and they do need gluing. Came off the rims on first drive.

      Ah, sorry but there isn't a list of parts. Thanks for mentioning it, it would be a great idea to have one, I'll work on it! Cheers!
