Thanks for Watching guys and have a great weekend!!
That’s it I’m done... I’ve gotten notifications from you even though I’m not subbed and I enjoy your videos.. so I’m subscribing and Ima turn on notifications.. cause, hey another ant channel video to look forward too..
AntzPhilippines PH Welcome to the colony!! :-) I am so happy you like my content my friend!
AntzPhilippines PH nice
We have this one kind of ant that looks like the Flavus species as well. I live in Michigan USA, across the pond as you may say. May even be the same species that could have hitched a ride on some ships when we were still a British colony.
I have heard of the ant you speak of! I think it may be Lasius Claviger aka the citronella ant? That is a great speculation! Perhaps they have set up their own little British colonies ;-)
My catches for this month: Formica Fusca, Temnothorax Unifasciatus, Camponotus Ligniperdus, Unidentified Myrmica sp. and for my suprise, I managed to find whole colony of Leptothorax Acervorum in a rotten branch. For the Formica worker you found 20 meters away, Its no surprise. They are know to forage up to 50 meters away from the nest, which is an impressive distance for such a small ant.
Nice One! They did truly amaze me! It felt like they were following me everywhere :-D
Make sure to visit any local formica species nests in April and May, that's their nuptial flight season
We get those wood ants in local Essex woods. Voracious appetites
Hard as snails Awesome! :-)
I’m so glad that you and antscanada are posting every week! Most ant channels I know are not posting at all so I’m so glad that you and mikey are
Izerman YK Thank you! I enjoy making these videos for you guys :-)
Izerman YK I am trying but Im still a small channel, can you check my channel out and just give feedback?

RobJ's Ants Thank you! :-)
RobJ's Ants Wow i watch your vidas to
Good video happy to wake up and see a cheery video
ants scotland Thanks mate! :-)
I like large ants, so Formica and Camponotus species.
Crazy how Formica have such good senses and are very sensitive to light changes, I know this from experience on my colony!
Nice find mate!
Tyler Robbins Thanks! I was literally so excited when I found the mound 😂
I bet man thats giant never seen anything like it myself. Don't let poeple tell you to make these shorter or change your video style I like it its perfect length and it kept me intrigued the whole time. Not once did i think about closing because it was boring or to long keep it up man. Do what you like not what others want.
Tyler Robbins Thanks for the comment mate :-)
I love ants. I can sit and watch them for hours x
Really cool. Each video is getting better. Seems that you collect more and more experience. ;)
haezelchen Thank you! :-) I’m happy you like my content
nice video,
Kaja 03 Many Thanks :-)
Looks alot like Formica Rufa, Ive found a nest of them not far from where I live. They truly make incredible nests and they forage over HUGE distances
Bob the Boulder Awesome! Was this in the UK? :-)

Ant's Mieren Avonturen I prefer finding ants in the wild and observing them in their natural environment. It’s great to see their interactions with their surroundings :-) I’m happy you liked the video, thank you :-)
i agree with you! soon i will try ro make a outdoor video also :) it wont be as good as yours thou im new at it ;)
Ant's Mieren Avonturen Well I cant wait to see it my friend! :-)
Cool video keep the great work on. Making the best videos!!!
Greek Ants Thank you my friend! :-)
i am not looking for a specific ant, i just want to catch one (any) atleast. -.-
Kaja 03 Well if you don’t manage to catch one my friend, I will send you one! :-)
wow, that is very nice of you
Once you have find your first your brain remembers the chemical reward your got and then suddenly they go from being insects your brain blots out to seeing them everywhere. If your in the U.K. hang on a little longer
im in germany ;) and okay
I catch carpenter ants all the time. They are always on my bed
Those formica rufa colonies are wonderful, they might even be part of the same super colony...?
Maybe black crazy ant or a wood ant as they can squirt acid!
I've seen Formica mounds so much bigger. Once I found a mound wich was 2 meters tall!
Try the forest around castle drogo and fingle bridge in devon, the wood ant colonies are 5 times bigger
Glad you respect nature
Heeey! Another good video.
ruyetOFFICIAL Thank you my friend! :-)
I want a bunch of Solenopsis or Atta Texans for a mega colony. Just built a big terranium!!
your intro is soo lit!
Thanks mate! :-)
I wish we had more information about nupcial flights in South America. I live in Brazil, but even though its almost Winter, its still warm. Thats been a while since the last storm.. I wonder if we have a storm, i'll be able to find any queen?
Rorther It’s difficult to determine when there will be a nuptial flight in a tropical region such as Brazil. But nuptial flights tend to occur during the rainy season when the area is at its most humid and the ground is at its softest. :-)
Ooo yes, another trip, to another forest! Love the footage of that Formica nest. When you were waving your hand, and the workers were ready to attack, made the workers look so brave :D Great video!
ll Ender Ants ll found you're comment :)
ll Ender Ants ll I am happy you liked the video! :-) The workers were truly doing anything to get me away from the nest!
ll Ender Ants ll yep
Wow awesome
Dowm here in aus a nest that size is easy. I got one near my house about 30cm tall and 1m by 3m area
Imagine what it would look like in the underground nest space.
I'm looking for atta texana or just camponotus novembecembris
Hello, lol this is formica rufa ants... I love this ants OMG!!!
What i catched: Formica rufibarbis, Formica fusca, Camponotus ligniperdus, Lasius fuliginosus and Myrmica rubra ( but the myrmicas sadly died😥)
Nice One! Sad to hear about the Myrmica but well done catching all your ants! :-)
Ants Britania thanks😃
Ants Britania perhaps When you want i can Give you one of My Formica rufibarbis or one Camponotus ligniperdus.
Thank you for your kind offer my friend but I will have to decline :-) I appreciate it though!
Grate video
LUCIUS Db Thanks! :-)
I have lasius Flavus in my garden, but they are always underground.. accept the nuptial flights then. But is that nest an lasius flavus then? Becouse i want a flavus nest! And if they are in my garten, i have more change to catch one in the nuptial flight
ItsCamiell That definitely sounds like Lasius Flavus! You may just have to wait until the nuptial flights to catch a queen :-)
Thnxx
To be honest it is a 40-50%chance if it’s in your garden,Most flying ants next to the nest haven’t mated so I prefer going to a local farm or putting out bait because where there’s ants swarming for food, there are other colonies sending flying ants and stuff the join the feeding party and they are more chanced to mate
Nice video! I’m just getting into Ant Keeping myself. Do you use an external mic for your videos or overvoice commentary? Your voice is so clear👌
Chester Tactacan For these kinds of videos, I just used the mic on my phone but when I do voice overs for other videos, I use a blue mic. :-)
great vid keep it on
Evill01 Thank you! :-)
Are there formica in europe and are there leafcutter in europe???
Ants cyprus I know there are Formica in Europe but the only leaf cutters I have ever heard of in Europe are the ones kept as pets ;-) Leaf cutters are native to South America :-)
Ants Britania nooooooooooo i realy want lc ants
i may be mistaken but arent most formica specias semi-parasitic and there for its realy hard to get a colony started?
i am from germany and here its forbiden to catch mount building formica queens anyway :(
carrier Pilot I was actually made aware from my last ant catching video that it is forbidden to catch Formica ants in Germany but in the UK there are only 2 endangered types of Formica :-)
The giant ant hill looks more like formica rufa, you are not allowed to catch them in a lot of countries.
nice again
Roy Lamers Thanks! :-)
I just caught a formica wood ant queen :D
LolICanTroll Awesome Buddy!
Nice video! I live in Portugal. I would like to catch a queen ant. Is there any nuptial flight happening now or soon?
Uvis Paleja Hello! Thank you! :-) Nuptial flights in Portugal should be happening between now August :-)
I think those two massive ant colonies are actually genetically related Iike one of them had a queen that made its nest just right next to the other one.
Im looking for lasius or Formica
I tried to start a colony a year ago, didnt turn out well
All the queens i caught died, and the lack of experience killed the one i bought.
This year i caught two queens. Both haven’t laid eggs yet, but other than accidentally rolling one of the test out of its covering (dumb, i know) i haven’t
made any mistakes yet
Heres hoping
The other best is probably a satellite nest from the same larger Formica nest. The species you are talking about that steal brood are sanguina . There are some awesome sanguina colonies in brooklands on the top of the hill climb track.
I'm subscribing to you because I love ants
I am looking for a the European fire ant mymrica ruba
I’ve been there
I live in norway and want the slowest growing type, but when is nuptiolbflight?
Johan F. Bryner Lasius Flavus tend to slow grow! Their nuptial flights are at the end of the month/next month :-)
i like formica rufibarbis or formica clara.
It’s Formica rufa, a protected species
I really want a tetramoriam ant queen
where is this at?
I'm planning to visit London again eventually in a few years
It was here: www.google.co.uk/maps?q=new+forest+uk&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwin2ZHttOfbAhWCalAKHebEBvMQ_AUICigBIt it such a lovely place and has a tonne of ants! :-)
Cool vid
D8ON Wood Thanks! :-)
I have been looking for months and I have had no luck again just like last year I have seen one briefly until my brother ran over it on his bike for a 'joke' if anyone can give tips or help in any way I would be very grateful. Thanks
Edit: I also have considered buying but I would have no clue where to buy from. I dont know how people do it lol they just go on a walk and find queens! I dont think there is any more nuptial flights in the UK at the moment and if there were I doubt I would catch one 😂.
I found red wood ants in my school and i,ve been taking care of them
I made a ant colony in are boss house I put food for them and there are not there any more and nice video
My brother my dad and I went on a hike were you were for 5 hours
Dragon Fire It is so lovely there, right? :-)
Ants Britania yes it is
I just caught a trap jaw ant queen
The only one we have in the Bay Area are Argentine ants
Near my house, we have some Formica (probably rufa as there are a few redwood trees near them) nests and they are almost a meter tall. One of them however, is built into the roots of a fallen tree and it is nearly two meters tall! Also, can anyone tell me when the Formica/lasius nuptial flights are?
I live in Ukraine and there's formica colonies too and this giant formica sp ants name is formika rufa
How do you build ant den
minilomre plays roblox I have made various Ant Nest tutorials :-)
Hi bro,If you take queen from nest, do you can raise her in test tube
11:45 omg i live in london too :D
Show us how to keep ants I wanna do it my self
Wesley Buckley I will hopefully make a tutorial like this in the future :-)
im looking for temnothorax and lasius umbratus
i want flavus :D
jamie bradley I am still waiting for them to fly 😁
Is their a spasific mumft in the year where the majorities of the qeens fly in the uk because i live in manchester and i havent seen any qeens
Most Alates will fly in the UK between July & September. So I would suggest August is the best month for catching queens/nuptial flights. :-)
Ants Britania thank u so much bro u know every think
I thought formica only lived in Scotland in the uk
I’m after a Formica Queen
Thx 4 the heart B
Lasius flavius
Cohen McWilliams Nice one! Let me know if you have any luck! :-)
I'm hoping to catch a lasius flavus but I am yet to find a nest in my area so I may have to buy
desperate Dan the indoor man It’s just a matter of time before the nuptial flights kick in my friend! :-)
@Desperate Dan The Indoor man I have a few large colonies outside of my house I usually catch around 50 I can send you a few for delivery cost
EthansAnts that woul, be AWESOME my friend!! Just subbed to you :)
Desperate Dan The Indoor Man great ill sub back I haven't made any videos in a while been so busy with school and exams
EthansAnts i don't really post myself lol
Is it now forbidden to keep the woodants? Becuz till 2017 there was a rule that is was forbidden to keep them
LOUIS Formica Rufibarbis and Formica Exsecta are considered endangered and you are not allowed to catch them. (UK ONLY) But other Formica ants will be fine. Be sure to check your ants before keeping them :-)
Ants Britania thanks! I had a formica fusca queen but she sadly died. Going to look for some new queens
I've always thought ant were fascinating " all for 1 and 1 for all " ...
Sir David Attenborough " Kingdom of ants " is an awesome documentary
Nice colonies. You should come back early in spring, they all warm up on top of the nest: ruclips.net/video/pcAJKlofBng/видео.html you can even spot the queens if you are lucky.
Im unsure on when the nuptial flight is in the uk this year, its been said to maybe this month instead of next
Nuptial flights have a slight chance of starting at the end of this month but most ants will fly between July & September (UK ONLY) :-)
Let me know if you have any luck catching queens! :-)
Thanks! jsut need to buy some tubes still. then thinking of making an all in 1 nest. with a outworld and nest.
Nice one! Are you going for a Plaster or YTONG nest?
Ants Britania thinking ytong maybe.
I have a qestion ants britania so I have this queen Ant and I have her in container but I won't to movie her in into a real test tube set up but she is eggs and larvae and ам scared to use a light because it might kill her and i dont wont to kill he from stres and i dont wont to live the light on sins i go to school help....
Please don't stop
I don’t mind just want a queen
Any camponotus species.
TheS It’s very rare to find a Camponotus Colony in the UK unfortunately :-(
Ants Britania True, but i'm not in the UK. I'm in Austria. My Camponotus ligniperda died in a weird way.
Hope there is still something I can take.
Currently i have a Lasius bruneus colony and a umbratus queen...
Do you think its going to be good to let the umbratus take over the bruneus colony?
TheS I’m sorry to hear about your Camponotus Ligniperdus Queen. I recommend introducing your umbratus queen to a couple of Bruneus workers. Perhaps not the colony, as she will kill the queen :-)
I am the 94th one who was watching
Can I build a simple ant terrarium using a wine bottle ?
*drinking game:* take a shot every time he says ‘nuptial’
