  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was meant to begin the journey to Zack Snyder's vision of Justice League with Darkseid and Knightmare futures and whatever... but all it really did was stumble on the first step. And it got badly beat by Captain America: Civil War. I've already covered the problems of BvS in videos like "Why Civil War Worked and Batman v Superman Failed". But today I want to start a new series where I explore a solution that would fix those problems I've identified. And the fix for Batman v Superman is the death of Robin.

    Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
    Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) clash over differing philosophies about what kind of heroism is needed to protect the world, while the public they're defending is becoming increasingly mindful of the damage that superheroes and masked vigilantes cause. However, the duo are soon forced to confront an even greater threat created by nefarious billionaire Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg). Directed by Zack Snyder, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also co-stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred the butler, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

    Captain America: Civil War (2015)
    In this superhero epic, the denizens of the Marvel Universe are forced to pick sides when Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) come to blows over ideological differences. After a mission involving a new Avengers squad led by Cap ends with several civilian casualties in Lagos, the team are asked to sign an agreement that would force them to take orders from a United Nations panel. Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) pressures Cap to accept this new arrangement, in part because he feels deeply guilty about his own past recklessness; Captain America, however, fears that the Avengers will only be corrupted by bureaucracy. Their disagreement eventually is batman in aquaman 2 ben affleck batman return the flash movie batman v superman videos explained batman v superman fight scene doomsday batman v superman bad movie great movie rant mistakes batman v superman ending scene batman v superman is good review official trailer batman v superman full movie free online 4k clip everything wrong with batman v superman honest trailer aquaman 2 batman batgirl movie batman v superman robin what happened escalates into all-out war when Cap's old friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), now a brainwashed assassin known as the Winter Soldier, reenters the picture. To me, the turning point for Batman would be the realization that - in a way he has been subconsciously wrestling with - HE is responsible for Robin's death. He put a kid in a world of monsters and gave him a stick and a cape.
    This way, both Superman AND Batman grow from the same realization: They are projecting their own mistakes onto someone else in hopes of punching it into submission, rather than accepting it and growing from it. Superman can't undo his mistake by stopping Batman, because that won't undo the fact that he let the Zod fight degrade to the point that he was cornered into killing. Batman won't be able to process Robin's death until he comes to terms with his feelings that he started Robin on the path that led to his death. Superman's mistake was letting Zod control the circumstances (and location) of the fight, and Batman's mirroring mistake was that he thought he was in complete control of things. They both realize they are fighting themselves, and using each other to do it.

    • @Axterix13
      @Axterix13 8 месяцев назад +52

      I don't think Batman needs to realize he started Robin down the process. Rather, he needs to learn that he can't control everything. That Robin made his own choices, and Batman did all he could, and sometimes, despite all that Batman is, bad stuff will happen. You know, that thing that Superman learns from his father's death when it is done right (and not poorly and stupidly, like in Snyder's movie). That despite all his power, he can't save everyone. That's the lesson Batman needs to learn. That despite all his gadgets and intellect, he can't save everyone, he can't control everyone.

      While both of those could work, the set up portrayed by the video doesn’t allow that, who killed Robin is a mystery to Batman and that why he on a warpath, if he knew who it was he have no distraction and would do what these two potential writers have suggested, but that isn’t what happing. Batman is on a mission to find who killed Robin and he’s blinded by a need for vengeance and he’s being driven internally by rage. It’s in the metaphor he uses, ‘an unstoppable force meets an immovable object’ he didn’t say an ‘unstoppable force meets an unstoppable force’ or ‘an immovable object meets an immovable object’.

    • @okayhonks
      @okayhonks 8 месяцев назад +3

      @@Axterix13 Right, that'd be his next step. But first, I just mean him realizing that the reason he's going all-out on the punching is because he hasn't admitted that he *feels* responsible for Robin. It doesn't mean he is, rather it means part of him *believes* he is, and that's the part of him he's actually fighting with - with Superman as a proxy. And part of the reason he feels that way is because He Is Batman - he's the guy who's in control, always prepared, never surprised, etc. - and he's got to let go of that somewhat megalomaniacal viewpoint.
      (But also, yeah, he very much does bear some responsibility. He was the adult, guiding a child through formative years, and he helped make "running into danger and punching monsters" a core part of his personality. Even after Robin was grown up, there's no denying that years of conditioning would deeply color his decision-making process. The idea that "Batman makes his own villains" is somewhat overblown... but Batman definitely made Robin.)

    • @okayhonks
      @okayhonks 8 месяцев назад +3

      @@gameover9390 Not entirely sure what you're disagreeing with here. In this case, Batman would realize that "who killed Robin" isn't The Most Important Thing he's wrestling with. He's wrestling with the anger at himself for the role he (perhaps subconsciously) he played in starting the path that led to his death. You can find and neutralize an external threat easily enough - that's what "projection" is - and it's even easier when the person you're projecting your anger onto is *also* the target of other, righteous anger.
      But killing every murderer he finds wouldn't undo the role Batman may feel he played in Robin's trajectory. He's on a mission to find "who killed Robin," but he'll never be able to clear that list until he realizes part of him believes HIS name is also on it...

    This would have made so much more sense! Batman hunting down Superman, who was obviously good, because of collateral damage doesn't make any sense. Zod and his army was responsible for the wreckage of Metropolis, not Superman. But if Robin was killed in the wreakage (or Batman was convinced he was) it would make perfect sense for Batman to be so emotionally attached to Robin that he ignores the evidence of Superman being good and goes after him for revenge anyway. You could have it where Alfred tries to talk sense into Batman but he doesn't listen. Alfred then leaves Batman and meets up with Lois Lane and they both try to warn Superman and try to uncover the truth behind Robin's death. And if Lex Luthor was behind Robin's disappearance they could find that out and tell Batman right before he finished off Superman.

    Yeah, it's a 24/7 job to keep your hands clean and everyone safe. It's extremely hard, and that's what makes a hero.
    What's inspirational is that heroes can inspire and create more heroes that take off the load. In a world of heroes superman wouldn't need to work as much. But until then, it's a 24/7 lifestyle.

    Holy shit, bro--I am speechless. I was one of those Snyder fans who defended BvS from all the haters; I thought it was a great movie, even though so many of the things you brought up were in my subconscious because I also had problems with the movie that I didn't want to admit.
    Your suggestions went straight to my heart, and I will never be able to watch BvS with the same mindset I did before. The absolute perfection of your version of BvS blew me away, and I will now always wish it had happened the way you described.
    I'm a big believer in emotional motivations for characters in big-budget stories. There's no reason to leave them out, as if the story doesn't need it because it's a known IP and/or there are flashy special effects. Neither of those excuse a story that reduces the conflict to good guy vs. bad guy, as you explained so well.
    Thank you for your great idea, and also screw you because you've ruined BvS for me forever lol.

    Beautiful write-up. Very consistent and pertinent.
    What might've also worked is Bruce seeing so many Gothamites and vigilante allies being corrupted over the years. Since the Justice League isn't a thing yet, he'd be on his own testing the morals of this seemingly invincible alien. He could do his utmost to attract Superman's attention by working with paid actors (possibly Clayface cameo for the faux branding depending on where we're sitting in the timeline?) and some older heroes like Green Arrow to fool Superman into believing his tactics are genuine. As additional insurances, he'd tell Superman that he strapped a bomb to an innocent somewhere in Gotham (as a nod to the comics that'd turn out to be himself) and he'd have used his influence as Bruce Wayne to invite Lois to a remote island of his with no wifi, leaving her stranded there (but obviously wined and dined by his staff) only to claim that he's holding her hostage, even going so far as to replicate her pitch for AI screams he'd project all over the area where the final battle ensues. Superman would be tempted to break him but ultimately unable to, falling to his knees and begging for Lois' life.
    The recent loss of Robin could factor into his mental instability as well making him semi-suicidal with him trying to get his affairs in order and accomplish this significant task whatever the cost or outcome.

    The only thing left is the story about redemption which I would argue works better when tou have to face the consequences of your action aka Superman dying in the original movie which wouldn't be the case in your version. Not to mention, how do you setup Justice League with your story ? Superman is still here, the earth is already protected.

      The fact so many people are still making videos about this film says alot about the significance of it because of how hyped up this movie was and how problematic it ultimately was. It had alot of cool and amazing stuff visually but story-wise/script-wise? Just no.
      This was the point where the DCEU was officially set up to be bad, while man of steel had it's issues, it was still a step into the right direction for the DCEU, BvS on the otherhand tried to do SO many things in one movie with half baked ideas, rushed iconic plotlines, and terrible execution of events that it essentially did ruin the DCEU as a whole. And it was the SECOND movie of the DCEU as well, which makes it all worst as well because DC was trying SO hard to catch up to marvel, they rushed and bastardized so many aspects about these key characters and events. And don't even get me started on how much I HATE the future event stuff that they're trying to do and ALREADY trying to make Superman evil, just right after he was sad and depressed throughout Man of Steel.
      The movie that was massively hyped just ruined ALOT of stuff off the bat for the cinematic universe and Superman dying at the end of the SECOND movie of the DCEU from a rushed crappy version of "the death of superman" events for the film REALLY highlights that Snyder and the rest of the guys in DC working for the movie has NO idea on what they're doing. It doesn't help that Death of Superman 2018 animated film had a VASTLY better version of the events. That's why people make so many make so many videos ABOUT this movie, to highlight how they ruined so many things by rushing so much stuff.

      @@Gadget-Walkmen A Superman-Batman movie should've easily broken a billion. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it could've made 2 billion, but that could just be me overhyping it. Had it stayed true to the characters and had a really good story. They took the two most popular and important characters in all of DC and reduced them to edgy knock offs of themselves, which really sucks because Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck did really well despite what they were given.

All his inteligence, his plans, his cunning, are overcomed by the rage and hate that filled him after Robin's death. And it follows the idea that maybe that's why he hadn't found who killed Robin yet, I mean, if he's killing everyone he cames across that is even remotelly conected, then of course he's not getting any closer to the truth.

      I mean Superman wouldn't turn evil of he killed because he's done it before but injustice exists so I don't really think this augment matters. Also Lois dying doesn't make him turn evil ethier most of the time the only time that happens is in Injustice.
