Notes from Alice's Mum:The green & white plastic Daler Rowney box contains artists quality watercolors and is still available from the Society of All Artists (SAA.co.uk).The blue plastic cylinder 'transformer' box is Daler Rowney student 'Aquafine' watercolors, and I don't think they make that box any moreThe Blue plastic 'Tardis' Winsor and Newton box with the water bottle and water pot included is available in both artists quality AND student quality (Cotman) paints according to price. The small black enameled tin of quarter-pan colors is from Winsor & Newton and contains artists quality paints...you can also buy them empty to fill yourself with tube colors...and Daler Rowney also do a similar quarter pan sized tin of artists quality watercolors....and is that my blue chamomile & Lavender tea tin you've got there Alice? Lol!
The teeny tiny metal box of quarter pans is known as a Bijou Box. Cassart.co.uk makes one with 18 quarter pans for around $48 plus shipping, but if you are ordering from outside the UK then you don't pay tax on it, and that savings sometimes can be enough to cover shipping costs. Amazon has an almost identical 18 quarter pan box by Daler Rowney which is $57.41 plus $4.22 shipping from Jacksons Art Supplies in the UK. Both Bijou boxes contain artists quality paints. If you can stand waiting a couple of weeks for things to arrive, then I highly recommend getting the European paint brands, such as W & N, Daler-Rowney, Schmincke, Maimeri, Sennelier etc., shipped from the UK as prices are so much cheaper there...and even cheaper when you take the Tax off :)
Artformers, more than meets the eye. Artformers, craft things in disguise! Autopaints wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of, the deceptipens! Artformers!
Aside from the fact that I kept wincing every time you put your fingers into the pans, that's one impressive collection! No idea why anyone would need so many palettes, but hey as long as it inspires you to grow as an artist I say go for it! Thank you for sharing
It's so funny to listen to you as you pronounce the brands ^^ As a native German, I really love listening to others trying to speak German... I could watch people show off their art supplies forever.
I love your videos talking about the more technical/material side of watercolor just as much as the speedpaints because nearly a year ago I was just bumbling around, watching speedpaints and thinking they were so cool. I'd always liked drawing and I finally took a drawing class in school. I really wanted to get into painting and I found your DIY paint palette and other extremely informative videos. After buying those god-awful chalky 5 dollar paints and painting and teaching myself for a couple months, I invested in some holbeins. Now I paint nearly every day, and I feel like I improve by the minute. Many artists on youtube have inspired me with their work, but you gave me a lot of the information and reviews that I needed to know I was making good decisions/investments and that I knew what I was doing. Thank you!
Your travel sets are so cute! Watercolors are obsession ! I love them so much :D I think you should try Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors! They're really cool :D This video was very helpful and fun to watch! Thank you for sharing!
Fun watching all your fun collections! I think it's great & I can see you've used them all, & had lots of fun memories doing it! I'm the same way but luckily I've only been painting for a while... Some day when your a mom just think how special it will be to share your mothers with your child. I'm doing that now but with grandchildren. Except I'm buying them for them so they'll have opportunities I didn't. Thank you for sharing this, I really enjoyed it!!👍🏻😍
Alice I'm craving a video cause I just got copic markers and I've never had them before, so now I'm really wanting to watch like a speedpaint video! I'm asking you because you're my favorite artist on youtube
lol, You have watercolors in your make-up box and make-up in your water color tin. I can see why though, since the make-up tin could fit a nice brush. Nice paint sets, I have several of the same sets. Since you like Dan Smith paints you should try their 238 dot trial sheets. These have nearly all of their paint colors as a little dot of actual paint including some really nice metallics and iridescents. Happy painting.
Awesome collection! A little tip for cleaning your palettes. I have found that a little bit of oil works. Just dab some oil, any oil, on some tissue paper and then use that to clean the paint stains off your palette, and then just wipe it dry with some clean tissue. :)
You're my absolute favorite artist on youtube. I love you above anyone because you make such a conscious effort to not put down aspiring artists. So many other youtubers act so snooty about art and paints and brands and I just really like how you're so kind and inspiring and acknowledge that not everyone can afford the higher brands. You're actually the reason I got back into art, so thank you so much! ❤️
That Raphael watercolour set is adorable! I have one in black and can confirm that the only reason I bought it was because of the packaging. With a coupon it's 13$ at Michaels, and you can remove the pans so if you really wanted, you could buy it just to make a travel set yourself. I plan to use the paint because, in my opinion, the paint inside is the same quality as the Winsor Cotman paints. As for getting rid of art supplies, I go through the same thing! I visited my family for the holidays this past week, and ended up giving my mom some old supplies to give to the neighborhood kids (can't bear to just toss them!) and I left some more supplies with my grandmother because she has a special storage area just for things from my childhood. I might retrieve those supplies later, but for now I don't have the storage, so she's holding on to them for me, lol.
the black tin set you said your mother gave you and you had no idea what it was or what paints were in it, is actually a Masters Whiskey Painters Standard Palette. I watched your video and after finishing went on amazon to look around at sets and stumbled upon it. Its 37$ on amazon if anyone wants it.
I like when pan sets sometimes come with a test page or colour chart so you can see how the paints are suppose to look on paper meant for them. A lot of pan sets are outside my price range though, so I use crayola, etc(struggle watercolours basically) when I don't want to break out my windsor & newton tubes 😅
The Van Gogh palete came indeed with a brush that was divided in two parts, one inside the other, which you had to put toghether. I am using them in this exact same moment 😁
Thanks for sharing, you are quite entertaining. White wc can be useful for splatter (e.g. stars), pastel colors, or more opaque look, like gouache. Experiment with it, it might surprise you (or not) :)
"Shmikee" oh my god I love this part I listened to it like 6 times. I'm from Germany and we pronounce it in an otherwise and it is so cute how you pronounce it oh my gosh
I have that little Daler Rowney transformer set, too. LOL It's been so long since it was discontinued, it's like it never even existed. I googled it this evening out of curiosity and this video is the only true match out of my search results so far, though I'm almost positive I first saw it on someone's blog years ago. Love all those watercolor kits. :)
Howdy from TX Alice, Whiskey Painters palette on its way from FineArtStore in Rochester, NY, thanks so much for the link. You are adorable, and talented. And you're scaring me to death with those candles! :)Thanks again!
you might like M. graham watercolors. they are made with honey and staya tiny bit moist. they are very pigmented and rewet easily without spraying or wetting them ahead of time. they are more affordable than some other popular brands and are awesome to work with. very yummy!
10:05 I’m gonna make this. Get a wood box, white tack on paint and mixing palette. I almost bought the “blue donut” before. But I didn’t know the brand or quality.
I love your videos 😝 I've literally watched this 20 times. I love these types of videos. You are so likable and I hope u make more videos and never stop inspiring others to paint😆you inspired me to start watercolors but I still cant afford the van gough watercolors 😂
I’ve been interested in starting watercolor painting, and I️ am very nervous about getting the right brands for my supplies. Knowing how well your works turn out, I really trust your opinions on the mentioned paints. Thank you!
I totally get why watercolours can become a bit dinted and messy - being messy is partly what makes them so fun! but the beat up Schmincke was a bit of a trigger hahaha! poor babies!
HulloAlice hahaha aaawww you sweet Alice! you made me blush! did you notice my absence?! :D I were saving money for a new computer, cause my old one was broken :P so yeah I´ve been out for a while :) I also missed your videos!
Your love is my drug, revised by moi: Because these paints, these paints, these paint, are my drug! I said these paint, these paints, these paint! I don't care what people say The pigments worth the price I pay I get so high when I buy these But shit there goes my SALARYYY!!!! Hey, I gotta question? How about you and me have a paint session in my basement? Do my paints make your heart beat like an 808 drum? Are these paints, your drug?
Hi Alice are the white knights archival I'm always on the lookout for artist quality that are affordable. I'd love to own a large set of schmincke but yeah the outlay is not something I can do right now
I am so impressed with your artwork and this video helps explain the things that makes sense and things ya need to know, especially the quality and price ranges. You make me want to start learning how to use Watercolor to create my own masterpieces!! I do have a few questions: What's the best paper to use that you love? Also, what's the best mask and eraser to use, in your awesome opinion! Thanks, I definitely subbed!
Damn it, if only I'd found this video a couple of weeks ago! I found the cylindrical Daler & Rowney palette on eBay for a good price but kept going back and forth on whether I should buy it or not, and someone else grabbed it! There was another one up for sale as well, but literally twice the price of the first one. Oh well... Next time!!
Great video ! ^^ i have one question: i don't know the diffrent about the kinds of watercolors like try and liquid watercolors AND pens ... can you maybe make a video, there u show how they to use and how they look on the paper ? if yes : THX :D
This is Heaven haha I love it when the color pallets are dirty and messy it just looks so good and makes me feel relaxing :3 is that weird ? Btw. Love your channel
Hi, can you do a video in how fast your watercolor runs out? And how to "save up" on watercolor? Because I bought three watercolor sets for this month and I used them all up for just a few paintings.
Wow I thought that was a schmincke set in your previous videos! I use schmincke too but I have a tube set (the stores here only sell tubes and only had schmincke sets the other brands sold were individual) I'm envious, the pan tin is much nicer! The tube set doesn't have the palette underneath. I'm new to watercolors though do you have any recommendations for brushes you like?
Oh Alice! I re-watched this again today :D and I came up with a question, cause I'm thinking on getting that White Knights set that you have. I already have a Van Gogh set, and the pocket Cotman box by W&N. So my question is: do you think is a nice change? I mean, going from Van Gogh and Cotman watercolors to White K. (which I've heard are artist quality), is that an improvement? Or are White k. about the same quality as Van Gogh and Cotman?
The White Knights are better than Van Gogh or Cotman, and working from full pans is lovely. However, the White Knoghts aren't as good as the really expensive high end watercolours such as Dan Smith, Schmincke or Maimeri.
+Happy Kappa I have the White Nights watercolors and just love them! They are highly pigmented; so much so that I've had to adjust to not having them lighten much after drying. A little goes a long way! I think you will love them!
I'm trying to choose between cotman and white nights. Which one would be better for me? I wouldn't say I'm a beginner, but I'm definitely not a professional. I've been practicing for around 6 months. Which one do you prefer?
I would say either for different reasons, cotman has a set that is 45 half pans for 60 ish dollars which is a lot of colors and is good for the money, but if u are going to be using the paint a lot I would go with the white nights because they are full pans, and higher quality But if u have 60 ish dollars to spend go for mijello gold series on Amazon it is on sale for 66 dollars when it is originally 200 dollars they have a 36 tube set with a palette and they have fantastic ratings and are a good paint some people say they are better than shminke and they are tubes so once you run out u just squeeze out more paint
This was so awesome and informative! I'm planning on learning at least /some/ watercolor before I go to art school next year (oil is my medium of choice but I don't want to show up completely uneducated) and I've been going back and forth over brands. I was wondering, would you recommend going for higher quality and fewer colors, or lower quality and more colors? Just curious, love your videos!
Thank you ^0^ the one about using a wash really helped me and I want to learn more from you because the other videos on RUclips about using watercolour paints don't really talk about the wash :/
I was wondering how to put the paints in the actual palettes because I got the 24 tube set of Daler and Rowney's simply watercolor paints and I also bought a palette with it. Do I just pour some of the paint from the tube into a little paint slot and then when I'm done using it I let it dry and close it? If that's the case, I assume you just rewet them when you're gonna use them again later, right? I'm so new to watercolor and I've never used them before (except barely in elementary, the crayola ones. I thought I'd just skip a step up and buy a Daler and Rowney set from Walmart).
Lol!
HulloMum where did u get the Van Gogh set? (The one with regular Van Gogh paints and the one with cotman watercolor)
Pinning this to help anyone with questions!!
Van Gogh recently changed the design, but are available from Amazon and sometimes at Michaels or Hobby Lobby :)
HulloMum do you do art too?
Trouvé : craftelier.fr/boite-de-12-pastilles-moyennes-daler-rowney.html
I love how you said 'affordable' instead of cheap. I think it was a nicer way and it didn't sound so rude
Aww thanks!
I think 'affordable' is slightly more expensive than cheap
Because honestly no watercolor is cheap
Affordable is 20-50$ for me
Cheap 5-15$
I love how your mom is a painter as well so it's easy to get paints plus she understands the point of buying multiple paints
What is the point other than addiction?

debby kelvin Yes, I do :)
debby kelvin Yes, I do :)
I have really bad insomnia and I listen to people talking to go to sleep, and you have a very soothing voice!!!
Omg ALICE I I love how u stopped the video to figure out what the transformers where, and u came back with so much enthusiasm lmao
It's so funny to listen to you as you pronounce the brands ^^ As a native German, I really love listening to others trying to speak German...
I could watch people show off their art supplies forever.
Ohhhhhh I would die for all of those paints!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't die then you couldn't use them!! XD
HulloAlice i was about to say that lol

+Madelyn Morgan Also I recommended your sketchbook review to a friend, they said it was the best review they'd ever seen and have it bookmarked!
Your travel sets are so cute! Watercolors are obsession ! I love them so much :D I think you should try Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors! They're really cool :D
This video was very helpful and fun to watch! Thank you for sharing!
The last Windsor newton set reminds me of a lip gloss phone from like the early 2000s
I like how you used a makeup tin thing for paint and the Staedtler crayon tin for makeup XD
+Phantato “Potato-Chan” -Chan - I like to think outside the box that way ;)
I can't stop rewatching this..
Tammy Artsy same here 💚
+Tammy Artsy Same! I love your videos~
Fun watching all your fun collections! I think it's great & I can see you've used them all, & had lots of fun memories doing it! I'm the same way but luckily I've only been painting for a while... loved this video. i subbed too. its very nice that you kept all your hand me downs from mom so carefully.
lol, You have watercolors in your make-up box and make-up in your water color tin. I can see why though, since the make-up tin could fit a nice brush. Hi Alice, enjoyed your video. Love the way your mum is mentioned so much. She must be amazing :)
Awesome collection! A little tip for cleaning your palettes. I have found that a little bit of oil works. Just dab some oil, any oil, on some tissue paper and then use that to clean the paint stains off your palette, and then just wipe it dry with some clean tissue. :)
Gabrielle Jarmin Ive never heard of that. I use water XD
Oil and dishsoap I use
2:23 NOOO :C You close the little metal thing first and then you push the paint in until it clicks :<
Sorry XD
People into art will never get tired collecting supplies that are comfortable for them LoL
u have an ADORABLE mom!!!
I love watercolor palettes. I have the blue Windsor and Newton travel palette and it really is so cute!
Thank you for showing your collection!
You are so lucky to have a mom who also loves watercolor~
This is like my favorite video on RUclips I whatched it like 5 times
its cool that the box is all beat up. shows its been well used
That Raphael watercolour set is adorable!
I love seeing your collection!!!!! I have the St. Petersburg White Nights and I love them!
that Daler & Rowney 'transformer' travel palette is soooo cool! Love it!
the black tin set you said your mother gave you and you had no idea what it was or what paints were in it, is actually a Masters Whiskey Painters Standard Palette. I watched your video and after finishing went on amazon to look around at sets and stumbled upon it. Its 37$ on amazon if anyone wants it.
the tiny box looks like a set of Old Holland artist watercolour called the English box. ^_^
Old Holland has colours that POP!
You know what would be dope? For that cylander pallet, what would work great is a compact papertowel disk
Definitely inspired to try my hand at watercolors again-- starting with rough paints, though, until after christmas.
Nice watercolor in picture. You be an artist with your art skills
haha, I did the EXACT same thing your mother did with the Van Gogh palette !
+Clara D - Great minds think alike!
Very nice presentation. Thanks for sharing your collection!
This video was just in time for Christmas! Now I know what I'm asking for! :)
Art supplies in disguise! I want that transformer travel set! xD
CSharp I would love to find one and buy it :( Do you know the actual model name?
Thank you!
Have you tried the windsor & newton watercolor markers? They REALLY impressed me, I'd love to hear your thoughts on them!
Really really enjoyed seeing all your art supplies! I love to collect travel palettes also. So happy to find your channel, and just subscribed!
I'm now a subscriber because of this video, I am so glad that I have found your channel
woah, never saw that daler and rowney travel palette. it is cool!
Omg, me too, I love small or tiny stuff. They're so adorable, I love to collect them :P :D. Great video, i really interest into these type of videos
You are 1 of my inspiration. Your watercolor 101 made me love watercolor much much more 😆
22:00 it took me like 30s to notice you suddendly had nail polish XD
Ahahahaha I didn't even realize until I was editing it and almost finished!
nice collection. you should have to apologize for what you have. it's amazing that you have a collection.
I totally get why watercolours can become a bit dinted and messy - being messy is partly what makes them so fun! but the beat up Schmincke was a bit of a trigger hahaha! poor babies!
Magical Fingernails !! Awesome

Thank you for sharing, this video really helps!!
Your love is my drug, revised by moi:
Because these paints, these paints, these paint, are my drug!
I said these paint, these paints, these paint!
I don't care what people say
The pigments worth the price I pay
I get so high when I buy these
But shit there goes my SALARYYY!!!!
Hey, I gotta question?
How about you and me have a paint session in my basement?
Do my paints make your heart beat like an 808 drum?
Are these paints, your drug?
+JayTheBirdFlyZ YES KESHA NEEDS TO SING THIS
Travel sets are my drug sugar plum 😂😆
Do you know where I can get that winsor&newton wooden box?? So cute!!
I love watching videos like this. Have you ever used peerless watercolors?
i never clicked on a nofication that fast first view 😂😂
Hi Alice are the white knights archival I'm always on the lookout for artist quality that are affordable. I'd love to own a large set of schmincke but yeah the outlay is not something I can do right now

Great video ! ^^ i have one question: i don't know the diffrent about the kinds of watercolors like try and liquid watercolors AND pens ... can you maybe make a video, there u show how they to use and how they look on the paper ?
if yes : THX :D
Russian palette called "White Nights". Produced in Russia, in St. Petersburg. Therefore, the company is called St. Petersburg
GIMME SOME!!
I think that little black box is called a Bijou box , I saw it on James Gurneys youtube channel
This is Heaven haha
I love it when the color pallets are dirty and messy it just looks so good and makes me feel relaxing :3 is that weird ? Btw. Love your channel
. . . . . . . !!! I have had that thing for ten years and I never realized you could use the cap as a water cup, I feel like an idiot omg
Hi, can you do a video in how fast your watercolor runs out? And how to "save up" on watercolor? Because I bought three watercolor sets for this month and I used them all up for just a few paintings.
Oh wow! You must paint a lot! I still haven't made a dent in some of my sets and I only have a few
funny you used your candy make up pallet to put your dan smith paints in and used a staedtler tin and put makeup in it
Wow I thought that was a schmincke set in your previous videos! I use schmincke too but I have a tube set (the stores here only sell tubes and only had schmincke sets the other brands sold were individual) I'm envious, the pan tin is much nicer! Очень интересная палитра DalerRowney в виде цилиндра, никогда такой не видела. Это очень старые краски ? Или это новые краски ?
this was such a great video thank you! :-) i have no idea what paints to buy now haha

OneTrueWord1988 oh thank you for your answer!
+Happy Kappa You are most welcome! Have a great day!
I really like the winsor and newton wooden case where did you found that one??!!
Was the windser and newton wooden box a special item?
I'm trying to choose between cotman and white nights. Which one would be better for me? I wouldn't say I'm a beginner, but I'm definitely not a professional. I've been practicing for around 6 months. Which one do you prefer?
I would say either for different reasons, cotman has a set that is 45 half pans for 60 ish dollars which is a lot of colors and is good for the money, but if u are going to be using the paint a lot I would go with the white nights because they are full pans, and higher quality But if u have 60 ish dollars to spend go for mijello gold series on Amazon it is on sale for 66 dollars when it is originally 200 dollars they have a 36 tube set with a palette and they have fantastic ratings and are a good paint some people say they are better than shminke and they are tubes so once you run out u just squeeze out more paint
man my favourite watercolors are probably cotman XD✌❤
Yeah same, I really think they are great watercolours that are still super affordable
Just curious, love your videos!
when are you going to do another watercolour 101?
Soon I hope!
Thank you ^0^ the one about using a wash really helped me and I want to learn more from you because the other videos on RUclips about using watercolour paints don't really talk about the wash :/
That poor pallette. You tortures its metal skin! 😭😭. Lol. It must really love you to still be with you, but I know it’s vice versa too.
Yeah you just squeeze them in there and let them dry before you use them
Anybody else sitting here staring at the candle
Do you like Schminke, Holbein, Meimeri Blue or Daniel Smith watercolor more?
I’ve literally whatched this like 10 times ...
Updated one is coming in September so you can binge that instead! ;)
HulloAlice yussss 🙌🙌
