      you are so brave to do this because I sneeze and I get hate, so as much as people have asked I dont think i would ever do a collection video!

    • @MissKerrieJ
      @MissKerrieJ  6 лет назад +3

      I'm not brave at all, I just make what I like - if people don't like it they don't have to watch. Make the videos you want to make and ignore the haters, you can't make everyone happy all the time, so the best thing to do is to make yourself happy - and if making a collection video makes you happy you should absolutely go ahead and do it. :)

    It’s bliss watching videos like this. I love how we all go down different routes with watercolours. I hope to have somewhat of a collection in the future, but for now I’m happy living through these sorts of videos 😜😂
    I bought my first ever schmincke watercolour the other day, dried it in a half pan... holy moly they’re so pigmented! It’s definitely going to take some getting used to!!

      Nephtalie Albert Hi! I have all 3 JD's and 4 of the Prima and it seems to me, that they are the same quality. If you see this today 3/24, go to Michaels and get one of the Jane Davenport to try, they have a 60% off coupon. The Brights is hands down my favorite.

      They are very similar paints - I personally prefer the Primas, because they have a wider color selection and the pans can now be purchased individually, but they can be harder to find. Both brands work well, re-wet well and are equally vibrant. I don't think you can really go wrong with with either brand.

    Loved seeing your collection! No matter how many watercolors I collect, I always want more! I love trying new brands and collecting all of the colors. 🤗 loved hearing which were your favorites as well! So far I have all of the Sennelier, White Nights and Schmincke colors...I love them all along with Daniel Smith. For some reason I don’t reach for my M Graham or Qor?!? Now I want to try Mijello’s...just to make sure I’m not missing out on anything. I hadn’t tried them because I assumed the were full of multipigments and color boosters etc. 😂🤣😂 please make a new video showing your collection every year or two, it’s just pure joy to see them all!

    I have a set of the Greenleaf and Blueberry watercolors and I feel exactly the same about them, I use them sparingly and when I want a specific look. I've had to purchase extra pans of their Violet Hematite, though, because I'm so in love with that color, it somehow works with everything I ever do! I loved this video, your collection makes me feel less self conscious about how big mine is as well, haha. Thanks for sharing!

    This is probably a dumb question for normal painters but I'm very new with color theory and mixing shades and all that. If I want to get a light skin tone with a watercolor palette would I achieve that by mixing yellow and brown?

    • @MissKerrieJ
      @MissKerrieJ  6 лет назад +4

      Not a dumb question at all - If I want to mix a lighter skin tone I like to mix an earth tone (usually raw sienna or burnt umber) and a rose (usually quinacridone rose or permanent rose) with a lot of water to really lighten the color down to a pale tone - I personally don't use yellow when I mix lighter skin tones, but it could be used if that's the look you're going for. Hope that helps!

    That's a lot of watercolors :P I just recently got some Winsor and Newton Cotmans myself and I quite like them. Granted I've only done one painting with them but I liked them better than Dr Ph Martin's liquid watercolors. Those were a pain in the ass.
    I've noticed a lot of artist use the watercolor pans. I've only used the tubes and liquid. How is it like using the pans? Are they better?

    • @MissKerrieJ
      @MissKerrieJ  6 лет назад +2

      Watercolor tubes and pans are (from my experience) pretty much the same, but it does depend on what brand you use to how well they will reactivate with water and how vibrant they will be. They work as if you squeezed out watercolor from a tube onto a palette, let it dry, then reactivated it with water later on. Personally, I prefer pans because they are more portable and I like to paint outside, but I really do love tube paints as well. My favorite watercolor palette (the one with the Daniel Smith paints in it) was made with tube paints that I put into pans, and they reactivate and work exactly like they would if the paint was still in the tube. I generally use my tube watercolors in my studio, since I find the tube paints more difficult to use when I'm painting on location.

    I have a question... When you put tube watercolors into the palettes, do you need to have them air dry before using them?

    • @crazyanastar2431
      @crazyanastar2431 6 лет назад

      Joyce Gao Certainly can use them right out the tube, it will give you richer tones and colors without the need to re-wet and scrub the pigment off dried paint or put some drops of water and wait, watercolor just has the convinience of being able to be used even after drying, oh and if it's to be portable certainly be careful carrying when it hasn't completely gone solid, it could leak to other colors : )

      CrazyAna Star Ok, thanks for the tip! :)

    • @MissKerrieJ
      @MissKerrieJ  6 лет назад +1

      I always let them dry, especially if I'm putting watercolors in a palette to travel with - if the paints are still wet, they will move around in their pans and could make a bit of a mess. Depending on the brand of paint, I will put the paint in a pan (some times I will add a bit of glycerine so the paint won't crack as it dries) then I will leave them to air dry (lightly covered so dust stays away) for a few days/a week or so. They can be used when they are still wet, but be careful if you plan on taking the palette anywhere - it's best to let it completely dry first. :)

    oh my god, for a second i smelled the watercolor paints lol as i was watching your video, its embarrassing, your video is great, and until now , while i watch a video i see some people like the video which is great, but also i notice a hate with actual numbers !! and i think , what is this? are they serious? i mean i don't see any thing wrong on the video to make them hit the hate button! so why do they even bother them selves in even hitting that button ? , they could just leave the video without hitting anything at all, and to be honest, the first thought crossed my mind that , are they jealous? or what exactly, i hate that, because you actually gave us the time and spent a time of your own to make this video with a lot of handful info for us plus the eye gaze lol i always gaze for me i see them as treasures omg, dont hate me ,dont judge me , and thank you sweetie for this, very much, keep your spirits up and don't care about those few hates, i have one question , are those gigantic pans really off the market now? its really sad, they do perfect for big washes right , any way have a nice day/night sweetie, bye.

    What ever happened to those (I cant remember the name) watercolor cards? You know those cards or sheets of card stock that had the paint dried on them and you touch them with a wet brush to pull the color. I believed you used them in your Over the Garden Wall painting, and I remember you saying they were good in the video and I thought they were really cool but I never heard of them again from you or anyone else. I was just wondering about them and thought they would be in this video (that is if they are even watercolor) and I’m a little surprised to not see them.

    • @UTleochi
      @UTleochi 6 лет назад

      You probably mean the Peerless or Viviva watercolour sheets. You can google them to find a reseller. I've got the Viviva sheets, they're really brilliant and strong, but I'm not sure about the lightfastness. I guess they're supposed to be used for journaling and in sketchbooks. If you want lightfast watercolours you'd better stick to tubes or pans. :)

    • @MissKerrieJ
      @MissKerrieJ  6 лет назад +1

      I still have both the Peerless watercolors and the Viviva Colorsheets. The Peerless watercolors are great, I still have them and use them often. I haven't tried out the Viviva ones yet, since I just recently got them. I was going to include both sets in this video but I ended up cutting them out (as well as my liquid watercolors) since that would have made the video over a half hour long. D: But, I do still have them and think they're great, I just couldn't include them in this video.
