Last week when in lane 2 doing a displayed 70, I had 2 vans overtake me in lane 3 and both were towing a trailer. No one cars about rules and if they do, they have no idea of the disruption they cause 000’s of others when it goes wrong. We have become dumb and selfish.

The amount of people who tow a wobble-box and don’t know anything about towing.
They have probably loaded everything up for their holiday in the front of the caravan so the weight balance is all wrong.
If it does start to snake, accelerate and it will pull it straight again, once back to normal ease off the throttle.

It has to have a positive balance
on the towbar of at least 50kg
then it will be more stable, if
its a caravan or a trailer makes
no difference. If its a 4 wheel
twin axle , the tyre pressures
need to be adjusted as well
    especially in an unloaded
trailer. All this works, ive had
    40 years of towing experience
its also published in van and
    trailer manual small print. R

A newish caravan will have a stabiliser built into the tow ball. Didn't seem to be going too fast, so it was probably overloaded with too much weight in the rear and too little nose weight.

Thanks, that's something I didn't know about, new caravans having a stabiliser built in. I was presuming badly loaded, when I had a caravan for a short while I tended to keep any weight above the axle, rightly or wrongly :-)

Obviously he didn't have any anti sway bars on the tow ball .

Looked like brakes were applied in 'emergency brake mode' when snaking started which would have made things 10 times worse, not sure though ?

Yes, I don't think the driver was driving recklessly or anything, just possibly a beginner at towing and had loaded his caravan wrongly, he was lucky, I thought they were going to tip over at one point.

Okay. When this starts speed up slowly then when going straight again slow down slowly people. Driven over 6,000,000 km so far here. If no room to manoeuvre pull to the shoulder asap.:)

Wrong! When this starts you should slow down gently. Lifting off the throttle and not braking should sort it. Accelerating will only exacerbate the problem.

Too much weight behind the axle and too many women driving.

@@ConradSpoke This is a british car, sins woman jumps out, a bit of her head, and then car drives out to the left side. So probably a man driving. And it's to much weight in front of camper, most often. Back end down, meen front tires are to light on the ground, and then it's goes salsa!
