This is how i always imagined Megatron, before tfp or the bayverse movies.He started by being a hero but as the war went on he became power hungry or a finactic.
At the beginning I was on the fence with both the Autobots and Decepticons. Both had good reasons to why they were fighting and both wanted peace. But as the story continues, I began to join the Autobots side, because now Optimus is trying to fix what he did and Megatron is chasing him for revenge and using his soldiers, who looked up to him, and their sparks as a source of energy. Both sides are definitely messed up, but that’s what happens in a war, especially one that continues for a millennia. People change, often for the bad, and ideals change.
Technically Autobots ideals came from the original Decepticons ideals until start the Civil War.But for a Millennia Megatron is corrupted idea of Decepticons and turns freedom fighters into a cruel angry and tyrannical bots while Optimus developed and turned these ideals into Autobots.

Anyone remember the old games War and Fall of Cybertron. That’s what the Netflix series brought me back to. From the amazing character designs and the scenery in all the episodes. You could tell they put effort into the trilogy. Especially with the dark tone of the story. This trilogy brought me hardcore nostalgia.
I gotta disagree, there were so many plot points and messy writing choices it really felt like it started out with a plan but dropped it halfway through.
Boy do I have news for you! The trilogy shouldn’t get credit for character design, because the series was based on the WFC siege toys, those came first, and I think it’s kind of telling of the trilogy’s quality when you didn’t mention actual story, this was the worst Optimus prime EVER, an imbecile who goes into obvious traps, tells Megatron to forgive him when he’s about to kill him (????), and just let Megatron go Scot free at the end despite there being less than 30 cybertronians left in the whole universe! This show sucked Watch G1, Beast wars, animated, prime, and armada all those are significantly better than this show 🤦🏻♂️

This Megatron was very easy to be sympathetic for. He didn't want to kill those who opposed him. He wanted true peace and actual equality. But the war went on, his cohorts became manipulative and he became darker and darker. To the point he chose to be the villain.
I love the show for how they handled both Optimus and Megatron. They wanted peace and went to many extremes to get it. They both did horrible things but always had justified reasons. It's my favorite show because of that.
This is one of the best examples of Megatron In the TFP universe and Cybertron games Megatron always just wanted to get rid of the corrupt system that Cybertron had but over the course of the war it plagued his mind and made him go crazy especially after taking dark energon in TFP.

I just recently finished the War For Cybertron Trilogy and I can honestly say that it exceeded all my expectations. I actually found myself believing in Megatron's "Peace Through Tyranny" philosophy considering how the classes on Cybertron were depicted.
Even if Megatron wanted peace people seem to forget there was better ways then this. Megatron lives far longer then Optimus but yet he thought the only way to bring peace was to commit genocide, and kill off anyone that didn’t agree with him in a civil war. Including the current Primes that governed Cybertron. I’d also like to point out Megatron originally went to war for these reasons because he was Mainly very angry and pissed that someone who he called a brother (aka) Optimus Prime spoke out against his vision. now Megatron was more then likely gonna become a Prime if Optimus didn’t say anything. But megatron also felt betrayed. By the time Megatron and Optimus wet at the council chambers of the current Primes that ruled over Cybertron. They were extremely close friends which is why they called themselves brothers. Even though they eventually became enemies in the civil war. They both still carried that mutual respect for each other. Even from time to time actually hearing them in a lot of the transformers movies still calling themselves brothers. An example of this is in the bayverse movie in Transformers 1. Prime’s final line after sam kills Megatron was “You left me no choice brother..” with all the new versions and old versions of transformers. There are not many where Megatron and the others get redeemed. same with their not being many others of The autobots joining Megatron.
This is always the battle of the mind. What matters most, survival or Morality The price for Survival can be steep, megatron is willing to enslave all of cybertron just to keep his home alive. Prime however seeks to keep it's spirit intact. What it means to be a cybertronian, a prime is humility and honor They were always polar opposites. Even after becoming friends they were doom to be enemies to the end

When Prime says "I won't let you enslave it" was hypocritical. He fights for those who are the rich slave owners, he fights to keep them safe from Megatron. Megatron, fought to safe his people and end slavery in cybertron. I'm not saying Megatron did nothing wrong, he definitely did and he also became a dictator. But he did fight to free cybertron.
