Love the video, but for anyone wondering. It’s suppose to be that short. All the sizes will seam very short as that was the style back then. If anyone likes these jackets but wants a longer version check out the Parka versions. They’re quite a bit longer but not as puffy. I personally like the normal nuptse over the parkas. The jacket would look a lot more odd if it was the same dimensions but longer. Back then everything was tailored perfectly so it went with the style of everything, and for mountain summiting/skiing and snowboard I believe they didn’t want anything extra that didn’t need to be there. If you watch the dumb and dumber movie (dumb reference I know) when they’re in aspen Colorado.. Almost all the jackets and snow pants are really short and that’s how they were meant to be. But again I love you’re video. This jacket is very popular in the street wear culture for anyone who doesn’t already know
These jackets are cut short since the original use was in alpine climbing. Space is needed around the hips for a climbing harness. Whatever happens in town is secondary at best.
@@BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists this is the correct answer, exactly the same reason why the mountain jacket is cut short. I've had people argue with me about this claiming it's nonsense, but I have the 90s north face catalogs that explain the nuptse design.
Hey Carol! Thanks for stopping by and dropping a comment (: oh yea, online is everything these days and I know this coat fits a bit strange. So I’m glad the video was helpful for ya. Be safe and well out there!
I own my OG Nupste Northface jacket from the 90’s. I’m 43 years old now and around 200lbs. The medium still fits me. I buy XL in nearly everything now. All that means is I think a Medium from the 90’s is slightly larger than a Medium now. It is very short though.
Yes! That’s what I’ve been hearing - the original from the 90’s was a better fit overall. And the new retro 96 is shorter than the original. Though both are short. Appreciate you sharing Jon!
The key to any of these heavier down jackets is the draw string. If he had pulled the draw string snug, the entire jacket would follow the body better and eliminate much of the space since the draw string pulls the inner shell closer. You do not want to wear down snug since it will compress some of the insulating loft. I can wear a size medium with little underneath, but I usually go with the large to get that gentle hang. For perspective my chest is 43 inches. If you are between medium and large, go with the large. Of course it will also have more room for a down vest etc under it. Why does this matter? I use a nupste jacket for winter work and they work very well down into the single digits with a wind. This is not going to be the case if your jacket is more snug.
Heres my take. If you go smaller than your regular size and compress the down with a tighter fit, you loose loft which means you loose heat. It is supposed to be puffy and there should be room for layering underneath. Dont compress it, or you will loose heat, just like a sleeping bag. Same idea. StyleFunction
I had the same problem choosing L over M because of the length issue, but now I'm ok with buying size M, because it really fits better and the length is quite the same (I'm the same size as you). Thanks👍
Been wearing mine since the 4th grade. Literally. My parents got me a large because they knew I’d grow out of it. I still wear it 😂 I can’t believe it’s back in style. I got made fun of for years now everyone asks where I got the specific colorway 🤣
Thanks for the vid it helped me find my size. I'm 183cm, 115kg (250lb), 36" jeans, bit of dad belly. I went for XL. Size large was only just too small for me but the large is noticeably loose. I could wear both with or without a hoodie because the down compresses. XL is at least an inch longer than the L, but also at least that much wider as well so that makes it loose, which is fine if you want the oversized look. I wear XL in all other North Face jackets.
@@daltonlamari9446 Not sure tbh but for what its worth I stuck with the XL and have no regrets. It's noticeably bigger than the L especially if you have it unzipped but the extra room allows for a lot more flexibility in layering :) oh and its freaking warm too!

It’s an interesting design I just received the brown one and it’s my first north face coat and I heard these coat normally fit nice and gives enough room but I had no idea how small this model is although I must say I’m a tall person with shoulders and I’m normally an extra large so that’s the size I got, at first I was very confuse at the sizing but then I came to realize it’s just a slimmer model to what I’m use to, so when I pull the strings on the sides of the jackets I kinda felt a lot better and tired sweaters and everything will not recommend wearing a huge sweater with this model, but there is no need to size up because it fits just right just a slim fit it was made to be a slim coat
always go higher size because you can crop the jacket with strings on the bottom inside of the jacket! very underused feature that is game changing. will make a larger size look super nice on you and even puffier than smaller size which is the goal of the jacket right to have the nice high quality bulgy fit.
It’s all down to personal preference but length is never a criteria when choosing one’s size. One should only go by the size chart. For this cat, since he’s got a 42’ chest, he should go with an L and use draw strings to make the jacket more form fitting if that’s what he’s after.

I just bought this jacket in medium and went on RUclips to see reviews and I’m keeping the medium. At first I thought it was too short and i should get an L but the extra space would be too much. The medium fits perfectly (5’11 - 90kg)
Thanks for the kind comment bro, much appreciated 🙏🏼 If you want a more fitted look go for the Large. But if you want some extra room go for the XL. Do you know your waist and or chest size? That will help me out a lot in for sure giving you the best answer
My pleasure brother! I’d say this, if you want the jacket to fit like the large fits me in this video, go for a size medium. And if you want a more fitted look, go for the size small. Hope that helps (:
You should always have room in a winter coat to wear sweater. The medium looks very small and there was really no way to wear a shirt and sweater. The coat is a boxy coat to begin with, so you may not even want to keep the jacket at all. Go with the Large, as the medium sleeves just look too short with the Medium…!
I totally agree. I think when it comes to a winter coat, you always want to option to layer up. So having extra space and having it be a bit baggier is always the better option. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to comment!
Thank u bro it’s very practical good shit for reference, I have been hesitated about the size between M&L for days. However, after watching it, I chose the Medium for sure. :)) For the people who would come here looking for similar build in future, I’m a normal Asian so I’m not as strong and big as this cool dude xd. My heights are 175cm and my weights are about 66kg.
I think a large is fine. Though it does have lots of extra room on me - the only reason I enjoy the medium is because it’s not my main go to winter coat. If I were to use the Nuptse as my main winter coat I’d go for a large - just so I have a bit more freedom to layer comfortably. So I think you’ll be fine (: How much do you weigh? That’s more a factor then height with these things I’d say
@@opbeats5524 Hey brother! I would say a medium would fit you well. We are the same height but I have a good 25-30 pounds / 13-14 kg on you. And the medium is quite fitted for me. So I think it would be a good place to be size wise for you (: Hope that helps man!
Josh thanks for the video dude. I’m in Texas so there’s not many in stores to try on. I was hesitant to spend so much on a coat without being able to try them on but after watching the video I’m confident in the medium. I’m 5’10 165 pounds can’t wait for it to get here
In Texas, I would recommend the Aconagua 2 jacket with the hoodie too. 500 goosedown, not 700 like the Nuptse however it’s a great fit. Personally great and light for those cold mornings especially or around a fire at night in winter
@@burfside the medium is perfect for me. Still has the oversized look. It is short but since this post I tried on a L and it’s only wider not any longer. So medium is the way to go 👍🏼
Maaaann.... I'm 190 (6'2) and there's a big discount for L and XXL. I'm kinda drawn towards buying the L but I feel like it might not even be worth getting as it's going to be a bit too snug

i am a sorta shorter (170) and roughly same weight, arent i inevitably suppose to look like michelin man? xd i assumed M would be ideal since i dont like tight fit
I got this jacket in xxl as all my other clothes and it was way too big for me. I returned it and bought a size XL and it is still too big but I have been wearing it for a year now. Got another jacket coming in now in a size L. Hope it'll fit better now.

Hey brother! Thanks for taking a moment to comment - appreciate the support (: Tbh, the Nuptse is a hard coat to size properly due to its length being shorter. Though, I will say having a coat that's a bit bigger is always better then having one that's too small. At least you can wear a sweater underneath if need be, winch will help with the fit. What was the problem with the L - too tight?
@@saininj Of course, my pleasure bro ! I think you made the right choice if the L is too snug like that. Just layer with a hoody or sweater and it will help a lot if its a little wide with the XL.

Amazing video bro, keep it up. Just wanna know if u could give us precise measurements ( length x width ) ? I would be so thankful cuz in Vietnam where im from, theres no chance to even put a hand to one of these puffer jacket unless we order it.

Hey Julian, sorry for the late reply! Appreciate you taking a moment to drop a comment (: And ohh don't even get me started lol. The sizing on these coats are craziness. Be well out there brother!
Hey man, thanks for the positive words 🙏🏼 Tbh I like the medium. Both coats are short to me. So that being said, I enjoy the form fit of the medium. The Large adds way to much space for me around the mid section. It kinda billows out too much for my liking
Hey Mike! I’m guessing the medium is gonna fit you, like how the large fits me. I think it all comes down to personal taste. I could have for sure worn a large, I just wanted this style to be a bit more form fitting. But expect the medium to fit you like the large fits me.
If I’m being honest, some North Face products are, some are not. I’d say their more style focused stuff, like the Nuptse. Probably not worth it. But their function oriented stuff (Gotham, McMurdo etc) are worth the money.
Hey brother - do you know your chest or waist size? That would help me more. But honestly, I think you may have to go with a Large. I'm 183/184 cm and 185 pounds and if I was any taller or heavier I would not want to wear the M. Its very close to being too small for me already. But your waist and chest size will be a big factor. Though I'm guessing you need a Large
If you’re still growing, I’d say maybe hold off buying this coat. It’s very short, and you’re tall and thin. So there’s a good chance you can grow even more. It would suck to have a coat that was too short for you. But if you were buying it for today, the Medium is the size I’d recommend. As long as you don’t grow over 185 cm or gain a lot of weight (stay under 82kg) it should be the perfect size for you.
Hey brother! Honestly, the coat should fit you fairly similar to as it fits me. Personally I would say the M though, unless you like a super oversized or boxy look. If you want a more flattering form fitting look, def scoop up the Medium. Otherwise the Large will be quite wide. Though I know thats the style these days. Hope that helps (:
Underrated channel, thanks for this brother

@@Joshua88Graham yeah it did thanks bro! I was worried that I got medium and that it would be too baggy cos it took me ages to find one but it looks good
Just ordered the XL one in Black (the most universal colour !) because I'm 6'3 ! Hopefully the fit is good 👌
lmk if it fits. i’m 6’3 and not sure if i should order L or XL
@@atticus2049 Update: XL is quite baggy and (as he said above with his large) there’s loads of room. So have returned it and got the L and it’s way more form fitting. It’s just very slightly shorter but it’s not much different to XL.
@@hamzahislam7269 I wear it both with and without hoodie. It doesn't make tonnes of difference to be honest ! The fit has been fine and I've had it for over a month now 😃
Hi I got size Xl im 6’3 180lbs and its way too bagy should I get L? Is L too short? Im asking because we are the same height.
@@aggelosyg23 XL Is too baggy for me imo , I’m 6ft 1 215 pounds and the arms are too big
I’m also 6ft, and when bought my nupste jacket I went with the L instead of the M. It is quite better in length but not that much of a difference. Keep in mind that these jacket are designed this way. But anyways I figured L just wasn’t the fit for me, it looks kinda weird.
What’s up man! Thanks for sharing and taking a moment to comment. It for sure is an interesting style coat. I think regardless of size, like ya said, it’s just a short coat. So ppl just have to accept it ha. It’s what it is. Did you end up returning it? Or did you move down a size? Happy New year btw!
@@Joshua88Graham Happy New Year to you as Well brother. I bought it for like $130, and I managed to sell it for $200. I couldn’t have turned down that offer. I literally got paid to use it a few months 😅 Bought me a new jacket, but to anyone who sees this: it’s a good and warm jacket and I def recommend.
@@messidinho8895 lmao where did u buy it? and I'm 6.3 ft and wear baggy clothes do u think this will be ait?
@@Zyre_rl If you are 6’3 I would say you definitely should go for the L, maybe even a size over that. Isn’t there somewhere you can try it on?
@@messidinho8895 it’s deadstock everywhere in belgium atm
Just what I was looking for thanks
My pleasure brother! Happy New year
I just bought this jacket in medium and went on RUclips to see reviews and I’m keeping the medium. At first I thought it was too short and i should get an L but the extra space would be too much. The medium fits perfectly (5’11 - 90kg)
Is medium not too small, for 90kg? I don't know what to get, the medium looks crisp.
Hey u can wear hoodies with medium?
@@bandavlogs9845 yea bro

I agree, Super boxy sadly aha. Appreciate you stopping by by and taking the time to comment (:
Hey man Im 182cm and 90Kg. What would you recommend? L? or XL?
Great Vid by the way, very informative. I subscribed.
Thanks for the kind comment bro, much appreciated 🙏🏼 If you want a more fitted look go for the Large. But if you want some extra room go for the XL. Do you know your waist and or chest size? That will help me out a lot in for sure giving you the best answer
Thanks Man ! .. just purchased mines in black online today 🎯
Glad you could find one brother. Black is probably the most versatile color, so good choice (: Enjoy the coat once it arrives!
Fire video bro 🔥 very helpful, I’m 5’7” 155lb with an athletic build (22yrs old so won’t be getting any taller 😭) what size would you recommend I get?
My pleasure brother! I’d say this, if you want the jacket to fit like the large fits me in this video, go for a size medium. And if you want a more fitted look, go for the size small. Hope that helps (:
@@Joshua88Graham helps a bunch bro! Thanks 🙏!
Happy to help ya out man :D
The medium looks a lot better. I think I'm going to go to a store to try them on
im 1,80 and 86 kilo and normal i have l but i got a m for this jackest fits perfect
Great video, very helpful thanks!
Very happy to hear it helped you out! Thank you for taking a moment to comment
wow what a useful and instructive video, you are very helpful, thank you very much.
Great video. Thank you for sharing! Do you also have a comparison for the 1996 vest?
i think it should be similar to the one with arms, because as its said in the video, the length of the jackets doesnt really change
Thanks for this comparison !
My pleasure! Glad you found the video helpful!
Thank u bro it’s very practical good shit for reference, I have been hesitated about the size between M&L for days. However, after watching it, I chose the Medium for sure. :))
For the people who would come here looking for similar build in future, I’m a normal Asian so I’m not as strong and big as this cool dude xd. My heights are 175cm and my weights are about 66kg.
I’m 6ft I hope the L wont be too big just ordered the L

I’m 5’10 165 pounds can’t wait for it to get here
Glad you found the video helpful brother. Enjoy your coat and thanks for taking a moment to come through and comment !
In Texas, I would recommend the Aconagua 2 jacket with the hoodie too. 500 goosedown, not 700 like the Nuptse however it’s a great fit. Personally great and light for those cold mornings especially or around a fire at night in winter
How did it end up fitting? I’m 5’10 as well and way 181lb
@@burfside maybe try a medium first, if not size up to large
@@burfside the medium is perfect for me. Still has the oversized look. It is short but since this post I tried on a L and it’s only wider not any longer. So medium is the way to go 👍🏼
I’m 6’1 182 pounds should I get large or xl
Great video - thanks for sharing!
Much appreciated Dan! Glad the video was helpful for ya. Appreciate ya leaving a comment. Be safe and well out there!
Maaaann.... I'm 190 (6'2) and there's a big discount for L and XXL. I'm kinda drawn towards buying the L but I feel like it might not even be worth getting as it's going to be a bit too snug
The Large actually may be a perfect fit for you! What’s your waist or chest size?
This video is a life saver in helping me find the right size. Thank you for posting this video. Medium it is, =)
Greetings from Poland! 🤍❤️ I'm about 5'6 and 62 kg and I’m not sure whether size to get an extra small or a small. What size would you recommend? 🤔
Polska gurom
i am wearing Large when i am 167 cm
Im 5'10 (178cm) andabout 140lbs (63kg) and i first ordered size M, it was bigger than size L on him and i returned it and im hoping S will be nice fit.
( I looked like michelin man :D)
And i wear normally size M on tnf!
i am a sorta shorter (170) and roughly same weight, arent i inevitably suppose to look like michelin man? xd i assumed M would be ideal since i dont like tight fit
@@daltonlamari9446 id say prolly s, idk its hard to fit. s is perfect size for me, i can fit thick hoodies under it

Great video. Quick question I'm 5′9″, how ever I'm much heavier in weight 210 lbs. I got both a L and and XL. The L is not as fitting, but the XL is really REALLY big. I went with XL. Was that a smart move?
Hey brother! Thanks for taking a moment to comment - appreciate the support (: Tbh, the Nuptse is a hard coat to size properly due to its length being shorter. Though, I will say having a coat that's a bit bigger is always better then having one that's too small. At least you can wear a sweater underneath if need be, winch will help with the fit. What was the problem with the L - too tight?
@@Joshua88Graham yeah a bit too snug. Not quite form flattering on me, lol. Thanks for the feedback man. I appreciate it.
@@saininj Of course, my pleasure bro ! I think you made the right choice if the L is too snug like that. Just layer with a hoody or sweater and it will help a lot if its a little wide with the XL.

Got to try mines on in the New York City Soho store. Neon green/yellow was the only one half decent in the store. All the rest were sold out. I got a small I’m 6 foot and very slim. It fits perfect not sure how
the special thing about this jacket is the crop. If you don’t want that you can just buy another model.
hey im 5,3 and 170-175 pounds muscular build. Should i get a medium or small?
If you want a more fitted look I’d go for the small. And if you want it more loose and baggy, kinda like the large on me - go for the medium.
Amazing video bro, keep it up.
Just wanna know if u could give us precise measurements ( length x width ) ? I would be so thankful cuz in Vietnam where im from, theres no chance to even put a hand to one of these puffer jacket unless we order it.

I agree with this. The large gives it that late 90s early 00s vibe 🤣
Or maybe I'm just saying this because I just ordered a large LOL!!!
color yellow is dope!!
Agreed! The colors they chose for the retro are real nice! I was actually surprised I liked the yellow so much too hah.
@@Joshua88Graham but the M is the best size choice for me
Which one did you like better? The medium looks like a nicer fit but it does look a little short. Great followup videos!
Hey man, thanks for the positive words 🙏🏼 Tbh I like the medium. Both coats are short to me. So that being said, I enjoy the form fit of the medium. The Large adds way to much space for me around the mid section. It kinda billows out too much for my liking
@@Joshua88Graham I bought myself an M, I’m 5’7 around 145 lbs do you think I should have gotten a small?
Hey Mike! I’m guessing the medium is gonna fit you, like how the large fits me. I think it all comes down to personal taste. I could have for sure worn a large, I just wanted this style to be a bit more form fitting. But expect the medium to fit you like the large fits me.
When ever I buy a puffer jacket I always buy it a size bigger cus they are really short for some reason but even a size bigger they still short.
im 6 foot 190lbs idk if i should get a large or medium. my waist is a 34
Probably go with the L if your waist is a 34. The medium is going to be quite snug I would I’ll guess.
Is northface really worth the money ? Like the pants do they keep you warm ?
If I’m being honest, some North Face products are, some are not. I’d say their more style focused stuff, like the Nuptse. Probably not worth it. But their function oriented stuff (Gotham, McMurdo etc) are worth the money.
The large just hits different
Hello bro, i hesitate between size L and M. I weigh 192 lbs and I am 190 cm tall. Which is the best Nuptse for me thanks guys
Hi, good review. I just wanted to ask which size would fit me. I‘m 182cm tall and about 70kg and only 15 so i‘m still in Growth.
I find in interesting that the TNF RMST Nuptse down jacket is T Two inches shorter than the Retro 1996 one.
Can I buy S when my height is 175 cm?
Everything looks good when your cheekbones pop 🥲❤
Ahhh you are too kind! Thank you 🙏🏼
Hey bro im 178 cm 80 kg what would you recommend ? M? L?
Great video thanks for everything
Hey brother! Honestly, the coat should fit you fairly similar to as it fits me. Personally I would say the M though, unless you like a super oversized or boxy look. If you want a more flattering form fitting look, def scoop up the Medium. Otherwise the Large will be quite wide. Though I know thats the style these days. Hope that helps (:
