Parsnip and Apple Soup with a Parmesan Chive Foam - A Princess Diana Favorite

- I made this delicious soup from my cookbook Eating Royally (link below) for Princess Diana about once a week. This was one of her favorites and she enjoyed it with a bowl of salad for lunch.
She would come into the kitchen at lunchtime, pull up a chair and eat at the kitchen table. I can see why this was one of her favorites. It's soothing and comforting and absolutely delicious (and easy to make too)

I crack up every time I hear "Winston, Winston, bring back that leg of lamb!" 😅😅😅
The way he talks about the Royal Family just like we talk about some memories with old friends always knock me off my feet.
😋😋😋😋
Will you be going back to the UK for the coronation.
Did you use toothpick to draw the cream out from the center?
I have met many nice people in GB, but the food?
I had to go to mc ,when I was hungry, but when invited, I saw wild Burnett (Pimpinelle in German) beside the house and addet it to the salad they served with ketchup and majonaise. They were glad over the taste. They had it in front of their door and did not use it! As nice as they were, they had put a Löwenbier can (brewed in the Netherlands) at my bed all evening. I asked for original british beer, but they warned me, do not drink that. I went to a Pub and drank a red, I regretted it.
I will not cook this soup, but it was interesting. When I would have so much of that apple have wasted, my mother would have slapped me. I am older and know poor times. My girlfriend is wasting food the same way.
That soup absolutely looks so delicious ❤
Did the Queen or the rest of royals eat pasta? Your videos are light on pasta aside from the spag bol
Not common l, they tend to eat a protein and veg. Like salmon and vegetables with perhaps maybe 1 very small new potato.
Or a steak with a green salad.
They drink water with their meals rather than champagne all the time.
They eat traditional English in season Fayer
He does mention that The Queen didn't eat pasta, but that Charles loves Italian. He also mentions that Diana didn't eat much carbs.
He's mentioned that the Queen didn't eat pasta because of the sauce. She was concerned about anything that could be messy when she was entertaining as a head of state. Likewise she avoided foods with garlic and onions.
Buy his book and find out ❤
@@bryana50cents16 I have his books
I think that if you didnt have coriander a mixture of cumin and curry would be awesome
Some celery also
Aww that is so sweet of Princess Diana would talk to you and just have safe place to someone to talk to and trust Which was you 💜🌷💜
Your memories of Princess Di are precious....=))
Nothing brightens my day more then a Darren McGrady video!
Hope you’re doing well Darren!
Love his videos!
Well tell us what the Queen told Diana then, go on😮
Thank you Chef !! I'm going to cook this for my Princess! ❤
Just made this soup...
It is the second recipe I have made of yours.
I have to say it was very nice and I will definitely be making this again.
I am yet to try the stuffed pepper though I grew up with my family making a very similar version so I can imagine it is just as good 👌🌹
Wow that's a recipe I need to try. My mother loved parsnips & apples. 🕊❤️🍀
Looks delicious! I love to whip boiled parsnips in the stand mixer with butter and a little but of heavy cream.
Would this soup freeze well? Perhaps before the cream is added?
I can't wait to make this! It looks so easy and delicious!
Darren you are a wonderfull chef 😺❤️but parsnips i cant eat! (Mum used to sneak them in our vegetable soup)!! Im watching your video still ok😸💜
Looks pretty grand! Lovely! Question: did the chefs eat each meal after the Royal family ate? And did the kitchen crew eat the same meals?
it would be really helpful with the quantities in the description. This soup looks great and I want to prepare it.
I never eaten parsnips but I would love to try your soup, and thank you for sharing another lovely story about your days with the royal family, especially princessvDiana, the way you speak about her feels like she was happy to chat with someone who was like a close friend to her even you know you an employee.
I hadn’t tried them until a few years back and they are a lovely and unique ingredient. They are super bright and zesty tasting. They are also great roasted with some EVOO, then topped with fresh dill, flakey salt and pepper. 💖🙏🕊
Absolutely gorgeous with roast chicken or any roasted joint
Thank you for sharing, Chef. I’ve been thinking about the Princess so much. I wonder if a sign from her will be present on the day of the Coronation.😊
I made parsnip apple soup with leeks ,garnished with walnuts and sage last week
👍 Been wondering how you've been doing. Glad all is well.
My mom used to add parsnips to side dishes, sometimes to carrots (coarsely mashed, lots of butter, salt, pepper: so good) or the same to rutabegas.
This is an interesting recipe. I love soups like this in lieu of a heavy meal sometimes on a cold afternoon or in the evening. Blessed Passover and Happy Easter-Resurrection Sunday Darren!
I make the best parsnip and apple soup, you need to fry the veg off for a good 10 to 15 mins to get some colour, it always makes it great
I LOVE ❤️ PARSNIPS! Combining it with apples 🍏 sounds amazing! Parsnips are way under utilized
Totally agree. Parsnip is under utilised and under estimated.
Love the soup, but people, please don't blend hot liquids, ..... unless you like burns.
Parsnip has become a forgotten vegetable 😢
Dear Sir, I would first like to say how much I love and appreciate your videos.
I had the privilege of hosting a gourmet dinner for 6 guests yesterday and prepared your parsnip and apple soup. It was PHENOMINAL, my guests could not believe their tastebuds and they could not stop raving about it.
Thank you so much and I look forward to future videos.
Cheers!
Parsnips and carrots do not need to be peeled especially if they're going to be put in a food processor or blender. Much of the vitamins and minerals are in the skins.
Love the look of this soup, and especially that it’s easily veganized. Thanks!
Great watching and listening to Darren. Particularly, hearing about our favourite 'Queen' of our Hearts 💕 Princess/Queen Diana 😊😅
Looks Delicious! Definitely going to have to try this. Thank you.
I will try this soup. I love parsnips and apples. Not had them together
I love parsnips, and was hoping to find a new way to use them….thank you, can’t wait to try this

Never heard of apple soup.🤔
Hello lovely 😊❤
You are so special unique unbelievable person and chef and make most beautiful meals and so memorable of the royals and absolutely a gift and so talented and role model and so sweetest person on earth 🌷🧡🌷
Sounds *very* eighties
Probably delightful, but very eighties
That soup looks lovely! Thank you Chef Darren for bringing up some good memories about Princess Diana. She seems to be like a person whom you can chat easily about what happens to you in a day. 😊
Princess Diana must’ve Extraordinary
My family being minority (Azerbaijani Russian ancestry background) in UK especially my dad and mom support her till this day like a fable myth
❤😊 love this recipe along with many others of yours aswell the Bolognese was good aswell love your channel and recipes ❤ 😊
That is a delicious spring luncheon dish!
I like parsnips and I like apples. But I never had them together. Now I need to try this.
I love parsnip and apple soup. Got the recipe from a lady in the highlands years ago. She did not give it up easily lol xxx
If you were to roast the veggies instead, would that work? Elevate the flavor? I just kept imagining roasting everything, and then blending it with chicken bone broth and cream. Yes? No?
I’m in the process of making this beautiful dish for my princess, my wife lol. Right now it’s simmering and it smells amazing! We had extra parsnips and am so excited to try
Parsnip is so under rated. So hard to find in stores. A must and any soup especially a basic chicken soup.
I’m not sure 🤔 about this one. I’d have to try it.
But, I enjoy watching you and hearing your Stories. You are a Sweetheart.
Hi please can you make a red velvet cake with Ermine frosting on your RUclips channel
Needed a recipe, and this is perfect for my family get together this weekend.
could you roast the apple and parsnip and onion first ?
and jamie oliver says the best part of the parsnip is the peel ?
whats your thoughts on this?
and thanks for sharing such a great recipe
love the video
I make carrot soup. I cook the carrots and onions in butter and sugar before adding stock, to make them savory. The addition of apple is nice. Apple should add a nice tart, acid to the soup. Your method is not my method. I was surprised you added the cream before making the puree and you did not strain the soup. Usually I make the puree, sieve the puree then add the cream.
Darren, is there a reason that you did not take out the woody core of the parsnip? Thanks, I ask because everyone says that the woody core is indigestible.
when i tried to blend the soup with all the ingredients, everything flew everywhere so make sure to be careful with machinery
I love be the idea of this soup. What does make me sad is how wasteful Darren is with his peeling and trimming. If it was for regular appearance sake, i could understand, but for a dish like this it seems like senseless waste even though he wouldn't have cost as a driving factor.
I am in canada and I am unable to buy your books :( : ( :( :( :( either online or actual paperback copy :( Any help ??
You said you made extra for yourself?
Don’t you all eat from same every time you cook
Don’t you all eat from same menu everytime?
I would like to make this parsnip and apple soup with chive foam and the salad that you made for Princess Diana when she was alive. What ingredients is in this recipe?
you don't put pot, blender, etc. on chopping board lah. Good grief!
This looks delicious and I’ve never had parsnips before. I’ll have to try it, but I’ll have adjust the ingredients to make it dairy free.
You could easily make it without the cream... just blend until super smooth.....
This soup recipes looks so good and tasty
Darren! What a beautiful soup! I'm definitely trying this one!
Any particular variety of apple - would Granny Smith do, or are they too tart?
Mouthwatering soup,real delicious.
Thanks a lot for posting. Looks lip smacking.
🤍 Thank You Darren , I want to try this recipe , Veganized. I really like Parnips , before I didnt know about them until We had an incredible Autumn Hash with them 💟🤍
I immediately thought this would be a great addition to the vegan recipes, and fancy enough for a holiday
🤍😊✋️Hi Darren , Im wondering are there any favourite Dishes that are with Swede ( I really was surprised to Like , what is called Ruttebegas in The US ?? They were plainly prepared when in the UK ) And something like a recipe I saw in Tasting History , Max prepared Armored
Turnips ' . Thank You , ThanksGivings 🤍💗
Wow that looks amazing
Miss Diana ❤
I have no idea what a parsnip taste like. Can anyone explain it.
I am a terrible cook, but I love your videos because you are so articulate, skilled and good-hearted. Thank you.
This sounds like a very light soup.
Could you use a hand blender instead of a blender?
Did you invent this or is this a English recipe
Looks amazing chef!
Beautiful!
Gosh, that looks good.
That looks amazing. I need to make this!
She also liked Watercress soup.
The soup sounds delicious I love apples , parsnips and lamb too. Thanks for the up and drop tip I do need that tip for some reason. I am wondering if crème sure would be a good topping (I never liked Parmesan even the best imported ones) I like crème sure with a bit of avocado and a sprinkle of chia seeds or hemp hearts. My inner child is asking why does he get to waste so much good food . I have tried to reassure her that it’s not on purpose. That there may be many reasons he is working for the camera making The shots more interesting . He is used to being helped by underlings who do the prep work. He is doing it the way he was taught…. Just because our Mum said don’t waste food you are tossing out enough food to feed an army doesn’t necessarily make it the truth of the situation. I told inner child kitchen waste likely goes to a compost bin and will feed the earthworms and improve the environment for the soil biome. Or if it’s clean waste into the stock pot. I think inner child could do with a cup of very hot Milk and nutmeg to help her go back yo sleep…I know that would help me get back to sleep after all we’ve been awake for over an hour watching you and writing this comment. Insomnia is our friend so ❤🎉❤goodnight from the Maritimes thanks for sharing your story with us 😊 live long and prosper. I am glad your books are in print 🖖🖖🖖🌺🍀🌟🍀🌺👍👍👍🌺🍀🌟🍀🌺. 👋🧑🏼💼🫱
Funny, some members of the British Royal Family have always taken a certain pride in being (read seeming) frugal; however, various chefs within the household have prepared dishes in public for TV shows, etc., where they do so precisely as they claim to do it for the family. They appear to waste A LOT of food on a regular basis. For example, they seed everything and they take bunches of the flesh with them. (I heard a chef from Britannia say that HM Queen Elizabeth II had probably never ingested a cucumber seed in her entire long life). They "turn" potatoes in the classic French manner, which makes a beautiful presentation but wastes half of the potato in the process; they trim the game, beef, salmon, etc until it is perfectly pristine and devoid of any fat, gristle. I expect one reason they live so long and without too many illnesses is because of the quality of their diet, which is frankly unattainable by most people. Even if one could afford the cost, the quality of the products they have via the various royal estates is simply not commercially available.
Sounds absolutely WONDERFUL!!!!
HAVE U EVER HEARD OF MAX MILLER?????
Diana would have made a beautiful Queen.
No recipe? Must I buy the book?
You are precious. Great Recipe:)
I don’t see the recipe 😢
Sorry guys, but I dont get Diana... At all. How could she be such an unhappy person with this amazing chef preparing such an amazing food for her. Every day. Diana, hello?
Things are complex.
Sounds so good.
Is this your kitchen ????
This soup sounds delicious
This soup sounds nice. Thanks for the recipe
YUM! I'm going to try this tomorrow. We'll see if it gets my tribe to eat parsnips without knowing they are eating parsnips!
Diana - princess of the World! Best of the Best!
The joy of it , mouth watering
How many parsnips?
