    The price for the Marinemaster is absolutely right. The Marinemaster has always been relatively expensive and the movement, the workmanship and many details in the finish determine the price. You can only give a final rating once you have held the watch in your hands

    I have the SJE073 with 6L35 and Grand Seiko finishing. These Marine Masters are definitely worth the money. My 6L35 has remained about 4 seconds fast and is gorgeously finished. These are going to be finished much nicer than the SPB Prospex with a better movement. If the 6L37 is like the 35 then this is a perfectly good price point. Put some respect on Seiko! These marine masters are a glimpse into GS ownership world and offer a new original style. This case shape never has a signed crown btw and I have never spent time looking at the crown…signed or not does not add or detract value for me.

    • @johnnyguitar6697
      @johnnyguitar6697 8 месяцев назад

      The 6L35 is neither finished nor regulated anywhere near the standards of a Grand Seiko. Glad your came at 4 secs deviation / day, but it could easily have been 10+. It is absolutely obscene that Seiko would sell those watches at $3,000, when this was the price for bona fide Grand Seiko models not so long ago.

    4:30 You read my mind. Exactly this. I don't understand why Seiko absolutely refuses to use signed crowns now. It used to be a staple of theirs. Especially in this price category. Remember the days of the Seiko SARB033/035? Sub $300 Automatics with sapphire crystals and beautiful signed crowns? Those crowns were awesome too. Just a very tasteful "S" on them. It's details that matter most to collectors. It's like they got lazy and cheap and decided to maximize their operational manufacturing efficiency by just going with generic unsigned crowns so that they can use a "one size fits all" manufacturing line to assemble the stems and crowns onto most of their lines of watches. Lazy!

    I've been looking at the Longines Legend diver for a few years but never pulled the trigger. The only thing that I wasn't sure about was the date at 3, I was fine with the long lugs. I did take a look at the smaller version but the dial looked a tad too small. The new 39 s definitely worth a look. The Oris 65 bronze is a great watch but the original cotton candy dials didn't work for me. Don't get me wrong, they look fantastic but I could not see myself wearing them. Now with the new release I confess I need to see this watch. I don't have a bronze watch yet but my sister does have a 65 cotton candy with the bracelet and it looks great, she keeps it 'clean' but if I had one I would let it patina. Many thanks for sharing.

    I think it looks much different from other Seiko's. Looks like Seiko is finally upgrading the bracelet. I really like the small date window at 4:30 as the dial retains its symmetry. The detail on the dial and the horizontal texture look great. The bezel is also like no other Seiko, hope it has a great smooth and precise feel when rotating.. The new 6L37 movement and the under 40mm diameter with 12.3 thickness is awesome. On top of that the actual print of "MARINEMASTER" on the dial. All reasons to like this new model (SJE101). Looking forward to checking out when they arrive. I was actually expecting the price to be more like the SJE093, the recent 62mas re-issue at $3500. This is definitely on my radar.

    Ive owned a couple more expensive Seiko divers, so the price of these doesn't bother me. I am not a fan of these drastic changes to the MM line however. I fully expected Seiko to release divers with the new slim movement, but rebranding a line of real deal saturation divers into this makes no sense and is a major misstep imo.

      I'm guessing Seiko is planning on releasing a new line of Marinemaster watches. These will be the equivalent of the MM200 watches. Later on, they will probably release slightly thicker watches that are 300mm water resistant.

    Nice group of watches this week. Thanks. Kind of like the chris ward aventurine dial watch. Not sure about the size 36 mm though? Priced well on the bracelet though.
    There can be only one Marine Master. I have a sla039, and a sla059. The monoblock 300 watches are special, and unique. Seiko, again is following bad advice in marketing. Think they are handome watches, a bit over priced, but called them something else. They may be using the 6L movement because of the thinness , and maybe reduced cost compared to a 8L . Regardless, not going to buy one.

    • @nerychristian
      @nerychristian 8 месяцев назад

      I think they are making the right choice when it comes to making their watch cases thinner and more modern. They are seeing the trends in the watch market. And people want thinner watches with smaller diameter cases. Of course, since Seiko fans have become accustomed to Seiko divers having big chunky cases, or strange cases- such as the Turtle- there will be come pushback. But I think people will eventually get used to the new design. The only way that Seiko will ever be able to compete with brands like Rolex and Omega, is Seiko begins to modernize their watches with slimmer profiles and better bracelets. They are already starting that with the Grand Seiko brand. They introduced the Evolution 9 watches, which are doing this.

    The marinemaster and the 62MAS were my first love when it comes to my grail watches. Although this new MM is more like 90% 62MAS from the case shape and dial with 10% from the MM angles and the name -- this is a step in the right direction for Seiko IMO. I'm glad I held out getting the SJE093. I wish it was an 8L movement tho. Not that I don't like the movement in this one. Seiko is not joking. It's making serious watches. I love the new Marine Masters, and can tell you they are priced just right. The old ones were a caricature, much too tall, much too large. The new sizes are awesome, they will be exquisitely finished (which anyone who ever handled a live SLA / SJE diver can attest to), and have a very nice movement.
    So it's funny that you love the LLD so much, because the price of those has also doubled versus what it was a few years ago, while you're slagging off Seiko's pricing for the new MM200. I will take the Seiko over the LLD any day of the week, in the same price range.
    You speak like someone who has never handled an SLA/SJE, because having owned the SPB153 and then handling the SLA version in a Grand Seiko meetup with some forum members..... The difference in quality is readily apparent as soon as you physically pick one up.

    Seiko is no longer the bargain 'starter watch' they once were ... prices on most of their models and all of their reissues are getting up there (low end swiss price level).
    Now from a positioning/sales/marketing standpoint I get it ... more than Chinese spec special, more than most micro-brands bordering low end Swiss to account for their heritage and unique styling.
    Now from customers standpoint it just means I will be looking elsewhere; better spec'd Chinese specials with the same look, micro-brands (Zelos, Helm, Phoibos, RZE, Baltic, Islander, Stratton etc. are cheaper) Christopher Ward are at about the same price, and also looking at lower end Swiss, German, European etc. watches (Longines, Sinn, Damasko, Marathon) that will be competing at this price point.
    Now if you are a Seiko collector - yeah you will pay this happily but that is an exception.
    Does it mean I won't buy any more Seikos? No. Does it mean I will buy fewer Seikos? Yes.

    Yes they sell quite well, people want them and the fact that they keep releasing more outrageous watches is evidence that they know what they are doing.
    Look at the brands that are rather stagnant. Those are not doing as well in this economic global crisis.

    I really like the design of the new marine master and the size is fantastic for a daily wear. But to be worth the money it needs a couple of tweaks.
    Remove the x from the dial
    Have over 60hrs of power reserve and have better tolerances, if you can't be bothered standing behind your product why should I spend my money on it. Plus or minus 15 seconds is a joke.
    Talking about jokes, I’m ignoring any watch with a bracelet that hasn’t got on the fly adjustment but Seiko takes the mickey.
    That longines also looks too expensive and I would much prefer a date function than the number 13 at 3'oclock.

      I think Seiko is asking for too much money for this model..... at he 5:00 minute mark in this video you see that cheap looking folding diver extension and the rather basic looking stamped clasp. Even some of the Ali Express brands offer milled clasps on watches costing less than 400USD. Then the movement characteristics also seem lackluster when being priced at this level, which you can find some COSC certified models at this point. Not saying this isn't a nice watch....just a bit too pricey for what it is.

  • @nedflanders3769

    I’m so done with Seiko. Their movements suck. I just got a watch with a brand new NH34 and it’s going between-10 to +26 seconds per day. Totally unacceptable! I’d be totally fine if it ran +26 spd but was somewhat consistent, but this speed up slow down crap, when worn for the same amount of time daily, is just crap. It’s not the only one I’ve seen like this either. I bought a SPB-143 new and it was running inconsistently as well, sometimes-3 spd, sometimes up to +40spd. And this is one of their higher end movements. Unbelievable!!

    Seiko figures its sales volumes will continue to fall permanently, so in order to keep profits up it keeps hiking SRPs and churning out ‘limited editions’ to create FOMO. Even if some Seiko fanbois baulk at the designs and price increases, Seiko thinks enough will continue to buy - especially the limited editions - to keep the cash rolling in. Why bother making and selling 18 $150 watches when you can make and sell one Marinemaster for $2,800?
