    I'm so excited for Fantasy Springs! Does it fit well thematically? No. Does it have a bizarre backstory of what it is? Yes. Do I care?? NO. Tokyo Disney Resort is Disney excellence at its best, and I know they'll knock it out of the park with more success.

    my wife and i discussed this at great length last year when we were at Disney Sea, it's going to be Coco (Remember Me), putting aside the fact that it already thematically fits in to lost river delta and that the Japanese concept of Obon (お盆) fits in perfect with Coco's 'Day of the dead' theme, we have to remember that Coco was a hit here in Japan. I remember watching that movie in Tokyo, you couldn't find a dry eye in the cinema. Can OLC afford not to have that heart warming inducing IP here at DisSea?
    Second would be Moana, for the reasons you mentioned, it was also a hit here in Japan, plus Polynesian culture is VERY popular here, if you ask a Japanese person if they've traveled abroad, most would answer: "Yes, to hawaii"

    Great commentary on Fantasy Springs not "fitting" the park. Though, it's on par with the Ariel area, which I also think doesn't fit in with the other "realistic" ports. In fact, I think they should tear down everything fronting the Mermaid Lagoon - those two rides are hideous and should be indoors with all the other ugly rides, where their ugliness is diluted by all the theming. At the very least, put Scuttle's in there and expand the building to cover the coaster. Then there could be more Lost River Delta theming on the west side, and they could build your Little Mermaid ride in the Scuttle area, with some Arabian Coast facades on the north and west sides. Let's get some immersion between the two most immersive ports in the park!
    As for your ideas: I also thought the parking lot seems kind of obvious for an expansion. They just need to not make the dead-end even longer. Yes, add another track to Toy Story Mania, and then in half the lot - they can build a garage in the other half - they should build Slinky Dog Dash, but better. Like, with all the characters, and better miniature theming.
    Great thinking on Moana. Disney is desperate to build Shanghai's Pirates ride system elsewhere, and Moana is one of the options, hence the Animal Kingdom concept art. Pandora 2 will probably use the ride system as well. They're really making noise about putting a Moana ride SOMEWHERE in Walt Disney World, and Adventureland is now gaining traction. While both Moana and Pandora would fit, Moana is a much easier choice. Then Port Discovery - I think it's awful - can just be given an "Oceania" theme. Nemo can be turned into the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge can be the style of a new bridge over to the empty plot. Aquatopia can be given a Hawaii theme and maybe Stitch has taken over the boat ride which is why it's so crazy. I mean, it's not like it's overthemed at this point.
    That southwest plot of land can hold more than the Moana boat ride - that ride system doesn't take up that much space. Great thinking on Coco, which does have concept art for a Magic Kingdom ride, which may or may not be on the chopping block. Still, it exists and it would work great with the Lost River Delta theme. (Also, I looked at popular movies on Disney+ in Japan. Hilariously, all the Fantasy Springs films are topping the chart, including the doc about making World of Frozen. Also on the list are Moana, at #7, and Coco, at #10.) While Lost River Delta is in a nebulous area - I've heard both Central America and South America - the Aztec Empire was straight-up Mexico and the capital was Tenochtitlan, now within Mexico City. "Santa Cecilia" is based on a town west of Mexico City. It's a perfect fit. Though I wouldn't get mad over Up or Encanto, both of which do have water elements based on real places, while Coco does not. Expanding these two lands is a perfect solution as it means they wouldn't have to build a whole new land at once.
    I will have to strongly disagree, though, with your desire for more kiddie rides here. There are already a ton! There are SEVEN kiddie flat rides, which is about five too many, as far as I'm concerned. Carousels and spinners are a part of Disney history, but everything in Mermaid Lagoon is way too low-rent for this park. Even worse, these rides aren't doing anything for capacity. The longest lines in the park - the ones they have Premier Passes for - are Soaring, Voyage to the Center of the Earth, Toy Story Mania and Tower of Terror. Three of those are not kid-focused. The next popular - the ones with Priority Passes - are Indiana Jones, Raging Spirits, 20,000 Leagues, SeaRider, Magic Lamp Theater and Turtle Talk. Another list dominated by rides for non-toddlers. The park doesn't need more kiddie rides; it needs more FAMILY rides. While Tinkerbell is a step up from the kiddie flat rides, the park nailed it with Frozen and Peter Pan, and to a lesser extent, Rapunzel. Rides for everyone. In fact, Frozen and Peter Pan will do more to lower wait times for the other rides than almost any other rides they could've made.
    THIS is what they need to keep doing when they plan for the future. Moana, Coco and Slinky Dog Dash can do this. They can also trade out Raging Spirits with a more family-friendly version of the Cosmic Rewind ride system while they are at it. More of what they're already doing right!

    As much as I agree that Moana is thematically perfect for Disney Sea, it feels like it'll once again create more redundancy between the two parks.
    They've already made Fantasy Springs look like a modern updated version of Fantasyland, with even making another Peter Pan ride, and now adding Moana would make it too similar to the Polynesian area of Adventureland, and make Disneyland look worse...

    Love the idea of Coco being added to Lost River Delta where that Frozen concept sat, and a Polynesian area incorporating Moana and Lilo & Stitch being in that car park area, perhaps with entrances via Toyville and Mediterranean harbour near the Venetian boats. A bit of an awkward gap, but Fantasy Springs is a bit of a dead end entrance too

    It would be great to see Moana or Encanto get added. TDS is the best theme park ever and it would be great to see those films brought to life by them. I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney wanted to push their newer properties but OLC wanted something more timeless. I’m sure we’ll get Moana someday, Encanto I don’t think will happen as it wasn’t popular here, which is a shame because I think it’s the best Disney film in years.

      That was my thought too. Instead of a single IP do like fantasy springs and have a Polynesian land that can utilize both. Could see Nemo and Aquatopia rethemed to fit Stitch pretty easily and build Moana out in the expansion pad. Though I would prefer them to just remove the simulator and do a new dark ride for Stitch as well. Not sure how feasible but could reroute the water way slightly to give more space for a show building there.

    What if OLC decided to build a gate at Fantasy Springs connecting to Disneyland. So it will be an area where the two parks connect/meet. Then, they can just put electronic gates or maybe stamp to prevent guest from park hopping. 🤔🤔🤔

  • @joshberninger8355
    @joshberninger8355 3 месяца назад +1

    I see the ones you mentioned as being the more likely, especially a Polynesian themed port that would give something new and could allow them to incorporate both Moana and Lilo and Stitch into it would work well. But one that I would love to see and would work well with the current idea of Port Discovery too would be Atlantis. Has a bit of the techy/light steampunk aesthetic of Port discovery and fits the idea of discovery and exploration. Plus a big E-Ticket dark ride themed to the movie would be amazing. However, I don't think it's popular enough of a franchise to create a major ride or land around.

    • @8bitthemepark
      @8bitthemepark  3 месяца назад +1

      Yea I really wish Atlantis had done well. The Atlantis soundtrack actually plays in Port Discovery! And the 20,000 leagues ride story is very similar to the Atlantis film, which released the same year DisneySea opened, so I feel like more would have been done with it if it was popular

    They don’t need to get rid of Port Discovery, just across the river next to Mickey and Friends trail in the corner is a huge plot of land for another port. I’m thinking this should be the port for a Moana land. Coco by the way, for the same reason Moana fits, Coco doesn’t. It doesn’t connect to the ocean, seas, etc. It makes zero sense. But don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Coco and want to see it represented in the parks. Where? Maybe somewhere Westernland?

    Regarding the expansion pad beside Lost River Delta, I've read that extending beyond and consuming the Sheraton parking lot is a possibility. It would require building around the monorail and road behind the park, but similar feats have been done before at other Disney parks. As an example, putting the main show building for the E-ticket in the parking lot and having the queue go under the monorail to access it like Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland. This leaves plenty of room within the berm for a full land without needing to touch Port Discovery.

    • @8bitthemepark
      @8bitthemepark  4 месяца назад

      Interesting.. The park already have a few tunnels that go under roads, with Fantasy Springs adding another one. Not impossible to imagine them doing the same with the monorail and the road there if they really wanted… Would be a hell of an undertaking though.

    I'd really want for Stormrider to return before continuing with expansions tbh. After, expansion for Port Discovery could be done on the expansion lot nearby. There's just so much that could be done with the steampunk futurism theme and Port Discovery doesn't take full advantage of that. One concept that I'd really like to see is a revival of the old Discovery Mountain pavillion plans for DLP with a From the Earth to the Moon coaster, but that seems really unlikely right now, knowing Space Mountain Earthrise seems to most probably be an Intamin launching, looping coaster as confirmed with tracks seen in a sample yard. It would have also been really nice to have more young kid-friendly rides unrelated to ips.
