One of the most underrated sing was "Dil gira kahin, dafatan."
In that very song the ultimate 'melting pot explaination' of Rakeysh mehra about Old Delhi area (Shiva Temple, church, Shishganj gurdwara, mosque, Mcdonald, Haldiram's all at same place, with their own identity intact) came alive.

Dil Gira Dafatan actually one of my two most favourite songs ever. The other one is Tu Bin Bataaye from Rang De Basanti. Both ARR, and both Rakesh O. Mehra.
Picturisation of this song was fantastic 😍

Delhi -6 fan from....TAMILNADU
Each song of Delhi 6 is a gem. After Dil Se and Taal, Delhi 6 and Rockstar are the most complete ARR albums, which pushed Rahman outside his comfort zone.
Dil Gira Kahin is my personal fav from Delhi 6. A very difficult composition with superb guitars

Delhi 6 is undoubtedly one of ARR's finest creations of his career. It hit all the spots and boxes... Everything I love about ARR's music and sound is encapsulated so beautifully on this album... Soul, melody, rhythm, arrangements, sound design, brilliant singing, combining old world charm with cutting edge, avant gard sound and style. The album has such a beautiful fragrance of freshness even to this day, much ahead of its time.
We want more ARR - ROM collaborations. I place Delhi 6 album above Rang De Basanti album, but like Rang De Basanti movie better. Regardless, two brilliant works of art musical from this collaboration. He brought out the very finest creativity and freshness of sound and style from ARR, so so incredibly special and beautiful. ❤️❤️🙏🙏
And BTW, ARR still continues very strong today especially in his recent Tamil albums, of which the Bollywood music crowd may not be aware. His latest creation Maamannan is one of my favorites from ARR of his latter career, highly recommend listening even if you don't understand Tamil like me.

Each song of Delhi-6 is a gem. But 'Dil Gira Dafatan' is the crown jewel. The song and the visuals just transport you to a different world. It creates a magical feel good sensation which is very rare.... Rakeysh's humanity and good intentions are infetious and i think Rahman also effected by it and it reflects in the songs... amazingly!

One of my favorite Bollywood track of ARR after Dil Se...I saw Delhi-6 with many of my friends at AMC in San Jose, it was rare those days for a Bollywood movie to get into a chain like AMC (This was not the first but still relatively rare) and we had huge crowd standing outside the theatre trying to get in mainly because of the hype and music played a huge part of that. I remember many Americans came to us asking what is this movie and who was this big star as they hadn't seen such a big line of Indians outside...While I wasn't from Delhi, I enjoyed the movie quite a bit and while I had problems with certain portions, it was quite enjoyable for me. However, I know many friends who didn't enjoy it especially those who came with the expectations of Rang De Basanti...But the music was almost universally acknowledged as one of the best...

Some time in the early 2000s, there was actually a hoax circulating in Delhi, known as Monkey Man of Delhi.
Delhi-6 is easily Rahman's best soundtrack in Hindi post-2000..he should have gotten a couple of Oscars for this in 2009 apart from(or in place of) Slumdog..

Ofcrs, couldn’t agree more with the Moment of the day as there can’t be anything better than this! Again I expected this to be when I heard it and you guys too have felt the same. After all, he’s the dream merchant of the music industry and it’s no wonder ideally that he gets ideas for his tunes in his dreams.
Arziyan being a namaz song obviously is special and personal to Rahman as well. And he’s the master of all such Dargah songs and nails it whenever he gets the opportunity. So, here unlike most other Rahman songs, it’s the purity of the song that becomes the hero than the orchestration and other musical elements for which also ARR is hugely famous for.
In a way, for me it's the way he presents and packages the whole song in so many layers that makes his song unique. We usually don’t discuss about Rahman only for the sake of composing. That composition is the basic job of any music director. We see so many other music directors too can compose good tunes. That’s not the real big deal atleast with ARR. It’s the way he merges all the impossible elements and layers cohesively coexisting in a song that makes his songs utmost special. Though Arziyan doesn’t really fit into that category, it’s the composition and singing in itself are most noteworthy points of discussion here.
But apart from this, my original favourite songs in this album are Masakali and Genda phool. Rehna tu had its own flavour and the best part of the song even musically not just lyrics was that ek haath hoga and that jazz. Waiting to see how the other songs including the titular song came out in this musical process of Delhi 6 that also had an old world charm to it.
Dear Sir. You are so correct. If you remember our epiosde with Mr. javed Ali. He explained - that Mr. Rahman recorded 'Arziyan' with Javed ji and also with Mr. Kailash Kher. And used both voices, creating a unique blend of voices and styles. That's rather unusual. Thanks for endorsing our choice of 'Moment of the day'.Warm Regards.
@@O2india Ofcrs, Rahman has always been the master of creating such jugalbandis, not just in this case. In general, the popular opinion is how Rahman doesn't care enough about singers than his music. But it's only though these songs and interviews do we realise how keen he was in selecting his singers and make them give their best output!

This episode had just a short byte by Mr. Javed Ali... so we did it on screen subtitles. I can remember, i was about 26 yr old when 5 of us watched this movie in theatre, all were very disappointed to watch it and were criticising the movie and abhishek and story everything. I was the only person who was opposite in the conversation, cos i got connected with the concept and the theme of the movie i tried my best to explain them but failed to do so, but still feel proud of myself that m more mature than rest in my age group, cos now aft 13 or 14 yrs they say delhi 6 is a real masterpiece 😅

Kala bandar is a very underrated song from the movie. I love the song and the lyrics are funny and nostalgic of the kala bandar times of my life. Delhi 6 as a movie is also very underrated, and I think big part of why it failed is because after masakali they expected a romantic film and the movie was anything but that
