    You could launch the rocket from a larger model airplane, ignite the rockets and then land with the parachute.

    • @KoalaGorp
      @KoalaGorp 2 часа назад +3

      yeah but that will be one heavy rc airplane to take off, and thats quite a bit more work

    • @vapoet
      @vapoet 2 часа назад +1

      @@KoalaGorp Very large plane and very tiny rocket, like bottle rockets. And you would need them to drop before ignition or you would not get your plane back.

      You'd probably reach higher speeds that way as you're not wasting thrust climbing, just going horizontally.

    You could have done a swing test to determine stability...
    Right from NASA...
    There is a relatively simple test that you can use on a model rocket to determine the stability. Tie a string around the body tube at the location of the center of gravity. (Be sure to have the parachute and the engine installed.) Then swing the rocket in a circle around you while holding the other end of the string. After a few revolutions, if the nose points in the direction of the rotation, the rocket is stable and the center of pressure is below the center of gravity. If the rocket wobbles, or the tail points in the direction of rotation, the rocket is unstable. You can increase the stability by lowering the center of pressure (increase the fin area) or by raising the center of gravity (add weight to the nose.)

    • @vacoff2717
      @vacoff2717 Час назад

      This guy is just a moron

    • @HeaanLasai
      @HeaanLasai 47 минут назад

      Downside of the swing test is that it doesn't see the effects of UN-separated flow (when the fin acts more like an un-stalled wing rather than an air brake), and it doesn't indicate over-stabilised designs that will become unstable due to over-stabilisation (each swing becomes larger until the rocket becomes a turbo-lawndart).
      So if you have large flat surfaces, or flat surfaces near the pressure centre, the swing test won't cut it.
      And like Estes discovered with their X15 model recall in the 90s, the swing test also doesn't indicate misaligned surfaces, but CFD also doesn't detect manufacturing defects.

    As a rocketeer of over 25 years, watching your endeavours is entertaining.
    Seeing you avoid what I would regularly use is also entertaining.
    I use avionics to deploy my parachutes.
    They work not on delay, like a timer, but on air pressure. Detecting a decrease and activating the ejection charge.
    Can be installed in the nosecone to add weight to the rocket to move the CG forward.

    check what the world record for the fastest model aircraft is... clue... it doesnt have a jet engine, propeller or rocket... its powered by the wind and gets into the transonic regime.

      @DorsetSaferRoads Час назад +3

      @t.iapsingh5651 it's not really riding air currents. It's called dynamic soaring. It's the same effect the albatross uses but on a bigger scale.

  • @idahobob

    Estes "BOMARC" missile model was a rocket plane, that would launch like a rocket then glide down.
    The "trick" was an jestisonable tube that ran up the center. This contained the rocket motor as well as a nose weight. When the ejection charge fired, this whole center tube would slide out, nose weight and all, to parachute down.
    As the center tube left the plane, a small thread would be released to cause the elevator to go from neutral, to a slighy nose up, to help the plane to glide, rather than "Lawn-Dart".

    Hitting the sound barrier is quite ambitious, you haven’t been able to achieve 200mph. Don’t you think that achieving 400mph first would be a better next milestone?
    More simply, the speed of sound is how fast vibrations travel. At 20 °C (68 °F), the speed of sound in air, is about 343 m/s (1,125 ft/s; 1,235 km/h; 767 mph; 667 kn), or 1 km in 2.91 s or one mile in 4.69 s.

    You should use play doe for nose weight. While not as dense as lead it does not make any real difference you use mor to balance is all and you would never fill the nose cone with it before you had the weight to far forward. Me and a friend of mine use to build all sorts of rockets including ones that looked like planes and used play doe a few times we added bbs for a bb gun to the play doe to bring the weight up just a bit. Others used things like broken up steel wool or iron filings in the play doe

    ground launch stationary yes allows you to track gained speed but really you need a carrier plane to launch it from already moving and with at least a 15° climb when launched then rc rtb auto landing while rocket plane stage achieves speed 700mph is what were trying to stay under correct? or is 1400 mph acceptable ground speed?
