Early times at Thunder Valley can be hit or miss, though the energy in the Poker Room is unmatched when there's a tournament circuit happening with additional players to fill the cash games. Maybe it's the magical soil being near the Western Placer landfill, but often you need the Luckbox energy to come out a wiener.
Can't believe I got clipped by Quads on my first hand last Monday. I like playing at thunder valley but you gotta go on Saturday Nights. That's when all the fishes are swimming along.
Tough day in the tables. Meanwhile, your Capital City Casino cohort McCusker just posted his latest vlog and he just continues to run stunningly well when way, way behind...hand after hand. It's really quite amazing. Keep pluggin away...the worm should turn.
Funny intro, but I think you're too concerned about results and I struggle with your being the only straddler during a day game (I know you can’t play night games, but you’d def see more action if you did). I think you’re a good player, keep it up and don’t worry so much about immediate results. Just my $.02 ❤️ P.S. I love how you’re using Doug’s graphics…he’s a great guy and I really like having my Sunday coffee with the two of you!
The better the player, the less need there is to straddle if it reduces the stack to less than 100- 200bb. You want to ne ppayingdeeper stacked if you're better than weaker players as the skill difference earns more bb
It’s just fun to track for the audience & give insight on how the year is going! I don’t let results affect my play because it’s one long term session, but I like keeping you guys involved!
Day 1 sounds like the most boring day ever. Shoving on the calling station was not a good play with that straight draw. But great job calling with the 45dd hand. You were just unlucky that you didn’t hit. And that sums up my shirty analysis of your video. Thanks for posting!
Those days when you can’t hit any draws are the days I say to myself: I pissed off the poker gods somehow and think all day what I did. In reality it’s just poker
Also, another timing tell you missed is the quick calls from the guy with 77 in the first session. Usually a mediocre hand or a draw. People usually stop to consider options with a strong hand
You should play the thunder valley 2-5 game. It was quite good when I was there. Also, it’s only a blocker bet if you are first to act and bet small to “block” the opponent from raising or betting bigger. You can’t blocker bet in position.
Man the cards weren't falling in your favor when you had big hands and big draws just couldn't hit your outs like the queen 10 of spades hand a pair and a flush draw is huge on the flop just the cards didn't hit well good luck on the next one hope you'll win a huge pot
If you want to be a long run profitable player, you need to only call your draws when the pot is offering the proper odds. Otherwise fold. On open end straight draws and flush draws, the pot needs to be offering 4:1 on your call, or you just fold. The T9 over the top shove was atrocious and just lighting money on fire, when the +EV move is to just fold when the guy bets pot giving you only 2:1. Are you gambling or playing poker?
You know as a former athlete... you don't quit till the game is over. It's only early August. I thought the challenge is to get profitable to the end of the year... you got over four months, or more than 1/3 of a year to go. In baseball, did they teach you to quit in the 6th inning if you are behind? Quitters never win!
I would’ve kept playing at Thunder if the action was good & they started the games earlier. Not gunna play 2-3 hour sessions with tight players just to complete a challenge I made up. Back to the action places!
@@NorCal_Poker I would throw out that if you want to be a better player, you have to challenge yourself, and be able to adapt to varying styles of play. One could point out that you prob learned an semi-expensive lesson here... don't push the action on tight players if you aren't on a heater. If you can win playing sphincter tight players, that's a very good skill to have. My point is, there's no value in giving up when there's so much time left... vs just seeing how it plays out in late-December. It's not like you are never going back to play at TV from now till end of year.
@@fialee8 If you watch til the end I say I’m not profitable “yet.” Definitely still gunna try & get there if I have a change in schedule. But for content reasons, this challenge is over!
Good that you recognized that you were pushing yourself to hit a goal and that was part of the reason you had a couple losing sessions; you can't really force it, if your game selection at Thunder Valley is good, put in enough hours of solid play, and you'll come out positive.
If the game selection was good, definitely would’ve played normal & grind out the hours. But had to put a stop because of the start time of the games & they were tighter. Appreciate the feedback!
@@NorCal_Poker From reading other comments, sounds like Thunder Valley should be where you go if you can get a Saturday night kitchen pass. But it looks like the games are too tight to be profitable before 2 PM.
I get that family time and sleep schedule are important, but 2pm is crazy early. I can appreciate if you have to be on dad duty when kids get outta school, but never playing evenings and only playing against sharp OMCs is definitely chipping away at your win rate. 😢 They dont call them "EV"enings fir nothing 🌚
Like your thought process, but at these stakes, playing standard ABC Poker is more valueable. Just my opinion. Enjoy the game, love your Vlogs Greets from germany ✌️
Those guys will never give a non-reg to their casino action when you step in. They are already tight, mix in that you’re probably not coming back as a reg they won’t give you any action unless they have a pair JJ plus and that’s being generous.
I am not really sure if a blocker bet in position exists lol 17:30. Pretty sure checking is fine here cuz if you get raised you pretty much have to fold. Also I dont think a big bet would do much since villain would probably just fold given the action.
Also, TV 1:3 doesn’t play like Texas but every time I’ve played $15 has generally been the open. Maybe I’ve just been lucky to play at splashier tables.
@@NorCal_Poker I only say because I know he is a reg up there and I’ve seen him down here a few times at M8trix. Nice dude and I’d rather sit at a table with him than most OMCs.

I’m definitely gunna sacrifice results with this schedule, but family time & a balanced sleep schedule is more important! Stones & Capitol are plenty good in the morning as well!
@@NorCal_Poker balance is key of course but poker is all about game selection. You can’t expect a good win rate when your just playing with whatever free time you have.
I hate the type of challenge you did precisely because it leads you to making -EV decisions. When you do challenges, focus on process not results. "I want to play X hours of poker in the coming Y months and be able to say I was playing my A game most of the time." That's something you can achieve, whether you run good or bad (though it's harder to keep playing your A game when you're running bad, of course). Amping up variance with -EV gambles to win a challenge doesn't really make a lot of sense in the grand scheme of things.
Hey man love the videos. I know you hate being the short stack/ not covering everyone but why do you add on $50 every time you lose a pot. I understand if you are down 100+ but I just don't see the merit to adding on every lost pot. I think it is honestly a confidence killer and makes you think you are losing more than normal.
